Tension tests for copper thin films with thickness of $12{\mu}m$ were performed by using a digital image correlation method based on consecutive digital images. When calculating deformation using digital image correlation, a large deformation causes errors in the calculated result. In this study, the calculation procedure was improved to reduce the error, so that the full field deformation and the strain of the specimen could be accurately and directly measured on its surface. From the calculated result, it can be seen that the strain distribution is not uniform and its variation is severe, unlike the distribution in a common bulk specimen. This might result from the surface roughness introduced in the films during the fabrication process by electro-deposition.

The paper presents the preliminary results of an esperimental study on crack growth under tension-tension fatigue loading. A purpose of the study is to find the effect of the specimen thickness on crack propagation behaviors. The thickness of the low catbon steel specimens the are used in the experiments are 5, 10, 15,20, and 25 mm. the type of specimen considering in the present study is compact tension specimen.Crack growth behaviors are obseved and measured by travelling microscope. From the study, the followings are found; 1. There is a certain specimen thickness that is the shortest farigue life. The fatigue life of 15mm specimen is the shorter then that of any other opecimen 2. The crack initiation of the thick specimen is slower than that of thin specimen. But the crack propagation rate is just the opposite. 3. The range which is the exponent, m of power law(paris) is 1.98-4.59. the thicker the spec-imen is, the higher the value of m is.
The mechanical properties of generally orthotropic materials are conventionally measured by performing off-axis tensile and flexure tests. However, the inevitable coupling between tension and shear in case of tensile test or bending and twisting in flexure test case induces nonuniform displacement and stress fields. Consequential stress concentration along the boundary of specimens would result in inaccurate modulus and underestimated strength. This paper proposes the variation of specimen geometry in terms of appropriate obliquity of loaded boundary. For the purpose, classical lamination theory is transformed into skewed coordinate, and characteristic equations for both of unidirectional and laminated composite specimens are formulated. Finite element analysis is employed to show the validity of the skewedness in tensile and bending test specimens.
In this study, tapered double cantilever beam specimens are designed with the variable of angle to investigate the fracture property at the bonded surface of adjoint structure. These specimens are made with four kinds of models as the length of 200 mm and the slanted angles of bonded surfaces on specimens of $6^{\circ}$, $8^{\circ}$, $10^{\circ}$ and $12^{\circ}$. By investigating experiment and analysis result of these specimens, the maximum loads are happened at 120 N, 137 N, 154 N and 171 N respectively in cases of the specimens with slanted angles of $6^{\circ}$, $8^{\circ}$, $10^{\circ}$ and $12^{\circ}$. As the analysis result approach the experimental value, it is confirmed to have no much difference with the values of experiment and analysis. It is thought that the material property can be investigated effectively on shear behavior of the material composed of aluminum foam bonded with adhesive through simulation instead of experiment by applying this study method.

Ultrasonic pulse-echo methods measuring the transit time through specimens have been widely used in determination of ultrasonic velocity and thickness of specimens. Usually, to determine the velocity of the ultrasonic. the transit time of the ultrasonic pulse through specimen is measured by using the ultrasonic measuring equipment such as the oscilloscope including ultrasonic pulser/receiver and the thickness of the specimen is measured by using the length measuring instrument such as micrometer or vernier calipers etc., i. e. each parameter is measured by using each measuring method. In the case of the measuring the thickness of a specimen by using the ultrasonics. the ultrasonic equipments, which measure the thickness, such as the ultrasonic thickness gauge must be calibrated by using the reference block of which the ultrasonic velocity is known beforehand. In the present work, we proposed a new method for simultaneous measurement of ultrasonic velocity and thickness without reference blocks. Experimental results for several specimens show that proposed method have good agreements with those by traditional ultrasonic method.

High temperature plasma coating technology has been applied to recover damaged aluminum dies from wear by spraying pure aluminum and alumina powder. However, the coated mixed powder layer composed of aluminum and alumina often undergoes a detachment from the substrate, making the coated substrate die unable to maintain its expected life span. In this study, in order to increase the bonding strength between the substrate and the coating layer, a pure aluminum layer was applied as an intermediate bond layer. In order to prepare the specimen with variable bond coating conditions, the bond coat layers with a various gun speed from 10 cm/sec to 30 cm/sec were prepared with coating cycle variations ranging from three to nine cycles. The specimen with a bond coat layer coated with a gun speed of 20 cm/sec and three coating cycles exhibited ~13MPa of adhesion strength, while the specimen without a bond coat layer showed ~6 MPa of adhesion strength. The adhesion strength with a variation of bond coat layer thickness is discussed in terms of coating parameters.

The effects of heat treatment on fatigue crack growth behavior were studied in continuously reinfored, magnesium-based composite (FP/ZE41A). Following an earlier TEM investigation, specimens were thermally aged to modify the interfacial zone between the alumina fibers and mg alloy matrix. The fatigue crack growth experiments were conducted with specimens having the fiber orientation normal to the crack growth direction(longitudinal) and also specimens with the fibers oriented parallel to the crack growth direction(transverse). A comparision of the fatigue crack growth behavior indicates that aged longitudinal specimens are more resistant to fatigue crack growth than as-fabricated longitudinal specimens. Conversely, as-fabricated transverse specimens are more resistant to fatigue crack growth than aged transverse specimens. SEM observations of fiber pullout and ductile tearing on the fatigue fracture surfaces indicate that the aging weakens the strength of the fiber/matrix interface, giving rise to the observed fatigue crack growth behavior.

A ceramic monolithic catalyst is a honeycomb structure that consists of two layers. The honeycomb structure is regarded as a continuum in structure and heat-flow analysis. The equivalent mechanical properties of the honeycomb structure were determined by performing finite element analysis (FEA) for a test specimen. Bending strength experiments and FEA of the test specimen used in ASTM C1674-08 standard test were performed individually. The bonding coefficient between the cordierite ceramic layer and the washcoat layer was almost zero. The FEA test specimen was modeled on the basis of the bonding coefficient. The elastic modulus, Poisson's ratio, and the thermal properties of the ceramic monolithic substrate were determined by performing the FEA of the test specimen.
In this study, CFRP and metal or nonmetal were bonded with adhesive and the fracture study on this material was carried out. CFRP at the upper side of specimen and metal or nonmetal were assigned at the lower side of specimen by using DCB specimen as the analysis condition. And it was desribed that the structural adhesive were bonded between both upper and lower sides. As this analysis result, the least equivalent stress was shown at the specimen bonded with aluminium. The maximum shear stress was shown to become lowest at the de-bonded CFRP specimen when titanium was used. In conclusion, it was shown that the deformation of specimen became lowest when titanium was used. On the basis of this study result, the esthetic sense can be shown as the fracture data of bonded interface using adhesive are grafted onto the real life.
Sound absorption capability of the flame resistant treated sawdust-mandarin peel composite particleboard was were estimated by two microphone transfer function methods. The weight of flame resistant treated board slightly increased by the treatment. The treatment improved fire retardant performance by decreasing the charred area of flame resistant treated board. Sound absorption capabilities of flame resistant treated sawdust-mandarin peel composite particleboard, in the entire estimated frequency range of 500-6,400 Hz was slightly lower than those of the control specimen. Sound absorption capability of both the control and flame resistant treated sawdust-mandarin peel composite particleboards were higher than that of commercial gypsum boards, being widely used as a sound absorber for ceiling at the estimated frequency.
