This experiment was carried out to show a reform measures by grouping for problems by the survey of TMR plants. Twenty total mixed ration (TMR) plants (10 cooperation and 10 private plants) were surveyed, of which 13 plants, 65% of total TMR plants, committed TMR formulae to a outside nutrition specialist (TMR formulator). With respect to consulting fee for TMR formulae, $500{\sim}900$ thousands Won was paid monthly. On the basis of dry matter 1kg, the prices of TMR products were $325.6{\sim}347.0$Won, whereas those of wet TMR products $365.7{\sim}375.0$Won, which was appeared to be factors to increase management cost. And also, because the TMR plants did not provide TDN (total digestible nutrient) value on their products, nutritional balance feeding for cows could not be managed in farms. It was calculated, based on ADF (acid detergent fiber) value, that TDN value in dry type TMR was 63.0% and 73.2% fur private and cooperation TMR plants, respectively and that the corresponding figure in wet type TMR was 64.9% and 67.2%. According to TMR plant employee's opinion, a prier items to enlarge TMR utilization were TMR education, TMR advertisement, and improvement of ability to make TMR formula. Therefore, for the purpose of further development of TMR, special education of persons related to TMR should be supported.
This experiment was conducted to determine the effect of feed intake and water consumption on milk yield and manure production in milking cows. The average feed intake(dry matter) of milking cows were 19.5kg/hd/d. Spring(23.9kg) and fall(22.1kg) feed intake rates when higher than in the summer(17.0kg) and winter(15.3kg/hd/d). The average water consumption of milking cows were $77.2\ell/hd/d$. Summer showed the highest value$(85.5\ell/hd/d)$ and winter showed the lowest value$(62.2\ell/hd/d)$. The average milk yield during spring, summer, fall, and winter was 30.8, 24.0, 25.4, and 23.7kg/hd/d, respectively. Milk yield during spring was found to be statiscally greater than for the other seasons. Manure production of milking cows during spring, summer, fall, and winter was 64.4, 63.5, 60.4, and 51.0kg/hd/d, respectively. Consequently, a relatively high correlation between milk yield and water consumption$(R^2=0.7742)$, milk yield and feed intake$(R^2=0.7459)$, water, consumption and urine production$(R^2=0.7422)$, feed intake and feces production$(R^2=0.6044)$, and milk yield and feces production$(R^2=0.6920)$ were observed in milking cows. The other hand, correlation between water consumption and feces production$(R^2=0.2950)$, feed intake and urine production $(R^2=0.1985)$, and milk yield and urine production$(R^2=0.2335)$ were found to be relatively low. Therefore, correlation equation between milk yield and feed intake, milk yield and water consumption can be estimated from : $Y=0.1919X_1+11.181(R^2=0.7742),\;Y=0.8568X_2+9.3067(R^2=0.7459)$(Y=milk yield $X_1=water$ consumption, $X_2=feed$ intake).
From August 1976 to May 1977, a series of rearing experiments of eels weighing over 5 grams were carried out utilizing indoor recirculating aquariums and the results are summarized as following: 1. The eels were instantly acclimatized in the aquarium when alive Tubifex was fed as food, resulting in the food coefficient of around 5, and the daily growth rate of $2\%$ or so (Table 2). 2. When mackerel flesh was used in combination with flour dough or commercial powdered feed, the food coefficients were 4 to 5 and daily growth rates were between 1 and $2\%$ (Tables 3 and 4). 3. The eels of 12.4-14.7g in average weight which had not shown any growth when fed processed feed, grew normally when they were fed alternately with alive Tubifex and processed feed with the results of 4.3-6.0 in food coefficient and $1.4-2.3\%$ in daily growth rate (Table 5). 4. Experimental processed feed containing North Pacific which fish meal as the main ingredient showed the food coefficient of 1.31-1. 83 as dry material and this means that there is not any significant difference between this experimental feed and the control commercial eel feed, imported front Japan which showed food coefficient of 1.34 and 1.328 (Tables 6 and 7). 5. The feed cost may be reduced by about $45\%$ (based on tile domestic prices in the spring 1977) if this experimental processed feed is used instead of imported commercial feed. 6. Uneven growth is markedly significant in eels, and those which showed retarded growth gave very poor food efficiency as well as poor growth rate until they reach the size of about 30 grams. Thereafter they recovered both the normal food coefficient and growth rate. 7. Individuals which have been showing significant retarded growth may have some inherent physiological factors but this poor growth might also be, more or less, results of some external factors which are considered necessary to be investigated.

For establishing a basal diet for the Pacific bluefin tuna Thunnus orientalis (PBT), feeding stimulants were initially identified by omission test using the synthetic extract of horse mackerel, Trachurus japonicus. Four feeding trials were conducted using juvenile PBT weighing $9.0{\pm}0.91\;g$ (trial 1, 2 and 3) and $1.6{\pm}0.23\;g$ (trial 4), which were originated from an artificial seedling production. The fish fed the casein diet with each test solution were added at the ratio of 100 g casein diet to 100 g jack mackerel muscle. A complete synthetic extract of jack mackerel containing all 3 fractions, amino acid, nucleotide and organic nitrogenous base, exhibited a comparable feeding stimulant activity compared to that of natural extract. The omission of nucleotide or amino acid fraction showed lower feeding activity, but the omission of other nitrogenous fraction maintained a similar feeding stimulant activity compared to that of the synthetic extract (trial 1). Inosine-5' monophosphate $Na_2$ (IMP) was identified as a major constituent for maintaining feeding activity. The mixture of L-alanine, L-glutamic acid, L-histidine, L-lysine, taurine and IMP induced a similar feeding activity compared to that of the synthetic extract (trial 2 and 3). In trial 4, the highest feeding activity was finally obtained in the mixture of L-histidine, L-glutamine and IMP, followed by the synthetic extract, the mixture of L-lysine, L-alanine and IMP, IMP and the mixture of L-histidine, L-glutamic acid, L-lysine and L-alanine. These results revealed that the mixture of L-histidine, L-glutamic acid and IMP for the proper feeding stimulant of PBT in this study.
The causes of late establishment of barnyardgrass and their density effect on rice yield loss were examined in 1996 and 1977. Herbicide application on 5 to 15DAT(Days after transplanting) increased from 6% to 52.5%, 1988 to 1992, and their ingredient amount for barnyardgrass control decreased to 41.7-87.5% in Korea. Most late establishment of barnyardgrass in machine transplanted rice field were not late germinated but revived ones. The number of late established barnyardgrass were 0.5, 2.0 and 13.3/$m^2$, on direct seeded at May 10, and machine transplanted May 23 and June 9, individually. Relation on rice yield and the number of barnyardgrass at machine transplanted field showed highly significant equation, as y=543.3 4.7x, r=0.9039 in 1996 and y=515.8 10.4x+0.066$x^2$, $R^2$=0.9532 in 1997. Theoritical yield loss by regress equation showed 2% per one plant of barnyardgrass per $m^2$ and 5, 10, 20, 50, and 80 plants of barnyardgrass decreased rice to 10, 19, 35, 69 and 79%, individually.
We performed an experiment to confirm the possibility of wasabi culture using the water of the Soyang River Dam in Chunchon and the ground water in Suwon. Water mineral content of Soyang River except for P was less than that of ground water of Suwon. Dissolved oxgen and E C of Chunchon was proper to culture wasabi but E C and dissolved oxgen of Suwon was not suitable for that. Water temp. of Soyang river was very changable by month while that of the ground water in Suwon was kept constantly. In Soyang river of Chunchon the month that water temp. show $8{\sim}18^{\circ}C$, optimal growth temp., was May to Nov. and the month that water temp. show less than $6^{\circ}C$, growth limit temp., was $Jan.\;{\sim}\;Feb.$ of Chunchon. Rhizome weight of main stem in Chunchon and Suwon was 63g and 22g per plant and rate of maketable rhizome was each 80%, 0% by culture of 32 months to include raising seedling period of 13 months. Dry matter partitioning ratio of petiole in Soyang river of Chunchon was the highest of all others but it was lowest of all others in ground water of Suwon. Rhizome weight of main stem in Chunchon was showed possitive correlation with plant height and fresh top weight and in Suwon it was showed possitive correlation with root weight and high possitive correlation with No. of total leaves and No. of tillers.

This study was designed to observe the effects of feeding the mixed oils of the sardine oil containing n-3 EPA, DHA and the safflower oil which is rich in n-6 linoleic acid on the improvement of the lipids and enzyme activities of serum in rats. Experimental oils mixed with 16% butter (control group) and 8% butter + 8% olive oil, 8% butter and various level of sardine and safflower oils were administered to the male rats of the Sprague Dawley for 4 weeks. The activities of aspartate aminotransferase (AST, EC 2.6.1.1), alanine aminotransferase (ALT, EC 2.6.1.2), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH, EC 1.1.1.27) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP, EC 3.1.3.1) in serum were significantly decreased in the all experimental groups than in the control groups, and activities of ALT and LDH were remarkably lower in the group 5 (4% sardine 0il + 4% safflower oil). Concentrations of total cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol in serum were lower in the other groups than in the dontrol groups, and particularly, lowest in the group 5. Concentrations of LDL, LDL-cholesterol, phospholipid and triglyceride in serum were lower in the all experimental groups than in the control group. Concentrations to total cholesterol and cholesteryl ester in serum were lowest in the group 5. The ratio of cholesteryl ester to total cholesterol was remarkably high in the control group, while group 2 (8% olive oil) was the lowest. From this results, the feeding equal quantity mixed oil with n-3 PUFA rich sardine oil and n-6 PUFA rich safflower oil were effective on the improvement of the lipid composition in the serum. It might be due to the effects of appropriate ratios of P/S, 0.85 and n-6/n-3P, 2.85 in the test lipids.
Fingerlings hatched from the eggs of the puffer, Fugu rubripes, which were spawned on May 21, 1969, and were cultivated. The results of their growth during 150 days, until October 25th, are summarized as follows: 1. The eggs began to hatch after 163 hours, at a water temperature of 15.9 to $17.4^{\circ}C$, and the hatching rate was $61.56\%$. 2. They reached the post-larval stage 6 to 7 days after hatching, and at this time a high mortality occurred. The mortality rate was 57.26 to $68.0\%$. 3. Sixteen days after hatching some of the larger fingerlings (6.7mm in total length) began attacking some of the smaller ones (4.6mm in to total length). 4. Twenty five to twenty eight days after hatching, the fish changed their food, and at this time a second high mortality occured. The total mortality rate amounted to 90.7 to $90.9\%$ of the total hatch. 5. After the fingerling stage. cannibalism occurs. The fish usually attack the caudal part of other fingerlings. It occurs regardless of body length and when the food supply is short. 6. The food coeffiicient at the age of 46 days (when body length is 53 to 68 mm) was 5.5 for short-necked clams, 8.5 for earth-worms, and 8.7 for fishes. 7. A third hish mortality occurred 53 to 63 days after hatching, the total mortality amounting to 95.76 to $97.34\%$, and the main cause of the mortality was found to be rickets resulting from nutritional deficiency 8. The growth rates were as follows: 2.68mm just after hatching, 3.84mm at the age of 10 days; 7.96mm after 25 days; 20.96mm or 130mg after 40 days; 73.68mm or 9.06g after 80 days: and 123mm or 31.8g after 150 days. 9. The water temperature during the above period was 15.7 to $28.4^{\circ}C$ with an average of $22.10^{\circ}C$ and the salinity was 25.53 to $34.50\%$ with an average of $32.07\%$, 10. The young of this species could endure well a wide range and sudden rise in salinity, and could survive easily when the salinity suddenly fell to $5\%$, but a considerable mortality occured when it fell to $3\%$. 11. When the fish were tranferred directly to fresh water from normal sea water they died out in 9 hours and 40minutes. However, when transferred from water of $5\%$ salinity at which they were reared for 54 days, they survived for 60 hours and 40 mimutes longer than in the former case.

Korean traditional deer decoction (Nogjungtang), composed of oriental herbs and almost deer parts, has been used as an important resource for human health. For basic studying on Nogjungtang, this experiment was conducted to evaluate nutritional effects of Nogjungtang, and estimate its effect on growth, food efficiency, organ development and hematological indices in growing and adult Sprague-Dawley rats. The rats were divided into three groups as follows; control: non-supplementation, Notiungtang I: recommended dose, and Nogjungtang II: thrice recommended dose. Nogjungtang was composed of various general nutrients with up 93$\%$ moisture.Crude protein is the highest value as 22.78$ \%$, Mg is a major mineral as 0.48$\%$ compared to other minerals, and methionine and proline are higher by 1.31 and 1.67$\%$ than other amino acids based on dry matter, re-spectively. In both growing and adult rats, there were no significant difference in body weight gain and feed intake between the control and Nogjungtang groups. Also, organs weights (liver, heart, kidney and stomach) and hematological indices (WBC, RBC, Hb, Hct and Platelet) did not show statistically significant differences among the experimental groups. However, all of experimental rats were normal growth without hypertrophy or negative development of organs by Nogjungtang. Hematological indices maintained in normal value by thrice recommended dose of Nogjungtang. The average body weight of each treatment groups showed similar levels at end of experiment. In case of the feed efficiency ratio (feed intake/body gain), the growing rats showed 6.00, 5.81 and 5.99 and adult rats showed 9.03, 8.98 and 9.10 in control, Nogjungtang I and Nogjungtang II, respectively. In conclusion, although further investigation of Nogjungtang should be performed in the functions registered in many ancient literatures, Nogjungtang is physiologically safe and may have potential as candidate food for human health.
This study investigates the hatching periods and hatchability of the eggs of Pochazia shantungensis at different collection times from 2011 to 2014, and the effect of temperature on the growth of P. shantungensis nymphs in an area of its outbreak. The hatchability of P. shantungensis eggs varies with their collection time; their hatchability in late November was higher than that in March of the next year, but no difference was observed in their hatching periods. The hatching periods of the eggs were 51.2, 31.3, 24.8, 19.4, 17.1, and 19.4 days at 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, and $30^{\circ}C$, respectively. The hatchability was above 70% at temperatures ranging from 18 to $27^{\circ}C$. The hatching time of the overwintered eggs in the Gurye region in Korea was reduced by 9 days from 2011 to 2014. The hatching rate was relatively higher when the average temperature in the winter season was relatively warmer. The dvelopmental periods of the first to fifth nymphs were 82.8, 58.0, 45.8, and 39.6 days at 18, 21, 24, and $27^{\circ}C$, respectively, at the relative humidity of 40~70%, and a photoperiod off 14 h light:10 h dark. The higher the temperature, the shorter the developmental period. At $30^{\circ}C$, all life stages after the fourth nymph died. Thus, the optimum growth temperature was estimated to be $27^{\circ}C$. For all life stages from the egg to the fourth nymph, the relationship between the temperature and developmental rate was expressed by the linear equation Y = 0.0015 X - 0.014. The lower developmental threshold was $9.3^{\circ}C$ and the effective cumulative temperature was 693.3 degree-days. The lower developmental threshold of approximately $3.8^{\circ}C$ was the lowest at the fourth nymph stage.
