Study on Shear Strength Using a Portable Dynamic Cone Penetration Test and Relationship between N-Nc (소형동적콘관입시험을 이용한 전단강도 산정 및 N-Nc 상관관계 연구)

  • Because of Recent intensive rainfall, nationally landslides and slope failure phenomenon has been frequently occur. Providing proposed-measures to the natural disasters that occur in these localities and the slope, must be derived ground of strength parameters(shear strength) as a design input data. However, it is such as extra deforestation and a lot of economic costs in order to make the access to the current area and the slopes ground survey is required. Thus, by small dynamic cone penetration test machine using the human to carry in the field, it is possible to easily measure the characteristics and strength constant of the ground of more than one region. In this study through researching analysis of the domestic and foreign small dynamic cone penetration test method, it has proposed a cone material and test methods suitable for the country. Cone penetration test Nc in the field has comparated with analysis of the value and the standard penetration test N value. And, in addition to this, direct shear test and borehole shear test were performed by depth, bedrock, and soil type and passing #200 and the correlation of the Nc value. In particular, in the present study, for the sandy soil that has distict distribute in mountain, it is proposed relation of shear strength corresponding to the Nc value (cohesion and internal friction angle) in order to calculate such effective ground shear strength.

Cycllic Seismic Testing of Full-Scale RBS (Reduced Beam Section) Steel Moment Connections (RBS 철골모멘트접합부의 내진거동평가를 위한 반복재하 실물대(實物大) 시험)

  • This paper summarized the results of a full-scale cyclic seismic testing on four reduced beam section (RBS) steel moment connections. Specifically, these tests addressed a bolted web versus a welded web connection and strong versus medium panel zone (PZ) strength as key test variables. Specimens with medium PZ strength were designed to promote balanced energy dissipation from both PZ and RBS regions, in order to reduce the requirement for expensive doubler plates. Both strong and medium PZ specimens with welded web connection were able to provide sufficient connection rotation capacity required of special moment-resisting frames. On the other hand, specimens with bolted web connection performed poorly due to premature brittle fracture of the beam flange at the weld access hole. Unlike the case of web-welded specimens, specimens with cheaper bolted web connection could not transfer the actual plastic moment of the original (or unreduced) beam section to the column. No fracture occurred within the beam groove welds of any connection in this testing program. If fracture within the beam flange groove weld is avoided by using quality welding procedure as in this study, the fracture issue tends to move into the beam flange base metal at the weld access hole. Supporting analytical study was also conducted in order to understand the observed base metal fracture from the engineering mechanics perspective.

  • 현재 열간단조 금형을 제작함에 있어 육성용접을 실시하는 방법이 금형강 STD61, STD11 등으로 제작하는 방법에 비해 보수나 비용적인 측면에서 이점을 가지고 있기 때문에 점차적으로 증가하고 있는 추세이다. 열간단조 공정에서 금형은 $1000^{\circ}C$이상의 고온재료와 반복접촉하게 된다. 이때 이형제의 사용은 급속냉각 및 급속가열의 열피로를 가속시킨다. 또한, 금형은 반복충격에 의한 기계적 피로를 받게 된다. 이러한 금형의 사용환경을 고려한 FCW는 종래 고가의 $2.8{\sim}3.2{\Phi}$인 외국산 FCW를 사용하였으나 이를 대체한 $3.2{\Phi}$ 태경 FCW가 국내에서 개발되었다. 하지만 개발된 FCW를 사용하여 제작된 금형의 수명이 부족한 현상이 발생하였다. 이에 금형의 수명을 연장시킬 수 있는 내균열성 및 내열충격성을 확보한 태경 FCW의 개발과 개발된 FCW의 성능평가가 요구되었다. 특히 열간단조 금형에 있어서 중요한 내열충격성의 경우 가열과 냉각의 반복 Cycle에 의한 Thermal shock의 평가가 대부분이며 높은 Cycle로 인해 많은 시간이 걸리며, 또한 가열과 냉각을 오갈 수 있는 고가의 시험장치가 요구된다. 그러므로 개발된 FCW 육성용접부의 내균열성 및 내열충격성을 평가할 수 있는 방법에 대한 연구와 특히 내열충격성을 시간이 적게 걸리면서도 경제적으로 평가할 수 있는 방법에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 본 연구의 목적은 열간단조 금형 육성용접부의 내균열성 및 열충격특성을 평가할 수 있는 방법에 대한 검토와 특히 내열충격성에 대해 J.W.Kim등의 시험방법을 참고하여 시간이 적게 걸리면서 저 비용으로 열 충격특성을 평가할 수 있는 시험법을 고안하는 것이다. 이를 위한 방법으로 육성용접부의 내균열성을 평가하기 위한 상온 Bending을 실시하였고, 내열충격성을 평가하기 위한 염욕로를 이용하는 고온 Bending을 고안하여 실시하였다. 상온 Bending, 고온 Bending 모두 3점 굽힘시험을 적용하였다. 고온 Bending의 가열방법으로는 염욕로를 사용하여 시편이 대기중에서 약 $850^{\circ}C$의 온도가 될 수 있도록 하였다. 시편은 각각 열처리를 하여 요구 경도를 확보하였고, 이를 염욕로에서 5분간 가열 및 유지하여 취출 후 굽힘하중을 가하여 변위의 정도로 열충격을 평가하는 방법을 사용하였다. 상온 Bending은 극한변형량과 파단부 극한응력으로, 고온 Bending은 고온 극한변형량으로 평가를 하였고, 외국산 FCW를 사용한 육성용접부를 비교대상으로 하였다. 평가 결과 개발된 국산 $3.2{\Phi}$ 태경 FCW의 성능은 외국산 FCW와 유사하거나 우수한 것으로 평가되었고, 실제 금형을 제작하여 현장에 적용한 결과 금형의 수명이 연장된 것이 나타났다.

  • In this study, the estimation of axial load and total axial load was conducted using Bridge Weigh-in-Motion(BWIM) technique which generally consists of devices for measuring the strain induced in the bridge by the vehicles. axle detectors for collecting information on vehicle velocity and axle spacing. and data acquisition equipment. Vehicle driving test for the development of the BWIM system is necessary but it needs much cost and time. In addition, it demands various driving conditions for the test. Thus, we need a numerical-simulation method for resolving the cost and time problems of vehicle driving tests, and a way of measuring bridge response according to various driving conditions. Using a bridge model reflecting the dynamic characteristic contributes to increased accuracy in numerical simulation. In this paper, we conduct a numerical simulation which reflects the dynamic characteristic of a bridge using the Bridge Weigh-in-Motion technique, and suggest overload vehicle enforcement technology.

  • In this study, we try to suggest measures to reduce leakage at a joint between CPVC piping for a sprinkler system and a pipe expansion through reviews of domestic and foreign standards and related tests. The quality of the waterproof rubber packing material between a valve socket and pipe expansion nut was examined. In the leak test, the valve socket material over the expansion part of the metal pipe nut was found to use a metal part or a schlorinated polyvinyl chloride pipe nut part. In addition, the KS B 0221 standard for parallel pipe threads with threaded and thread inspection criteria and inspection standards in order to ensure an acceptable quality of valve socket, there is a need to amend the regulations to comply with the KS B 5223 (screw thread limit gauges parallel pipe threads). We do not have detailed standards for expansion piping nuts for waterproof rubber ring material, so we need to amend the relevant criteria for EPDM material to be used with excellent waterproofing, for which both NBR and EPDM are currently used.

Power Management System of Base Station Equipment for Mobile Communications (이동통신 장비의 전력관리 시스템)

  • Many studies have been carried out in order to develop a frequency efficient communication system than the current communication system for satisfying the increasing demands of wireless data services in mobile communication systems. Service providers must maintain a lot of base station equipments to meet the increasing demands of wireless data service. Therefore service provider needs a system or method to reduce maintenance costs. The amount of wireless data service are changed according to the time of day, geographical location and so on. Power consumption can be reduced if the supplied power of communication systems is controlled by the amount of wireless data traffics. In this paper, power management system of base station's equipment for mobile communication is designed and implemented. The proposed power management system controls the power supplied to the mobile communication infrastructures depending on the service amount of wireless data. Field test result of the implemented system shows the proposed system saves 26% of the power consumption in the base stations.

  • The development of aircraft engine requires a lot of time and cost to estimate system attributes such as performance, reliability, stability and life. A virtual engine test based on "Numerical test cell" can extremely reduce the time and cost for the development of a hardware by coupling multidisciplinary analyses. This paper presents the development activities of full engine simulation programs in U.S.A. and Europe. NASA Glenn research center of U.S.A. leads the development efforts of NPSS(Numerical Propulsion System Simulation) by assembling the existing codes and improving their functions. VIVACE (Value Improvement through a Virtual Aeronautical Collaborative Enterprise), a consortium of universities, research centers and companies in Europe is developing the PROOSIS(PRopulsion Object Oriented SImulation Software) by integrating the various programs of the institutes. The capability for the domestic development is also estimated by surveying the current status.

Synthesis of Improved Polyaluminumchloride and Its Coagulation Properties (개선된 폴리염화알루미늄의 합성 및 응집 특성)

  • The synthetic technology of improved polyaluminiumchloride (IPAC) similar to characteristics of PACS was established with minimum expense for modifying existing production line. The conditions for activating silicate was studied before the synthesis of IPAC, and the IPAC was synthesised with raw materials such as aluminumhydroxide and concentrated hydrochloric acid, followed by adding activated silicate and alginate. The specification of product, chemical structure, and coagulating properties were tested by using specification testing method, instrumental analytical method, and Jar tester, respectively. As a result, the product, IPAC, contained aluminium oxide content more than 17%, and no precipitation was shown at all while the IPAC solution was preserved, and the larger floc and faster coagulation were represented compared to existing PAC under the same conditions. It was suggested that these synthetic technology could be applied to the existing production line for producing PAC without approximately cost raising factor because of adding sulfuric acid-activated silicate instead of sodium sulfate.

  • The satellite telecommand processing system is the only way to provide telecommands for status monitoring, control, and mission execution. Domestic satellites can be divided into science, technology, and multi-purpose satellites, and geostationary satellites. These Satellites uses CCSDS standard protocol to communicate with ground stations. However, existing domestic satellites use only software to decode telecommands which increases cost of software development and verification of the developed software. Performance of software only approach is relatively low compared to hardware. In this paper, we present ASIC processing system specifically designed to decode telecommands. The system consists of a telecommand RAM, a protocol RAM/ROM, an ASIC, an interface unit of FPGA, and a relay block. The system handles general commands and pulse commands that are used in satellites. We established a ground station equipment and test environment to verify the system functionality, The result shows that our system reduces the development cost by 1/5 and improves the performance by 105 times compared to the previous systems that decode telecommands only by software.
