In this study, new moment-resisting precast concrete beam-column joint made up of hybrid steel concrete was developed and tested. This beam-column joint is proposed for use in moderate seismic regions. It has square hollow tubular section in concrete column and connecting plate in precast U-beam. The steel elements in column and beam members were connected using bolt. Furthermore, in order to prevent the premature failure of concrete in hybrid steel-concrete connection, ECC(engineered cementitious composite) was used. An experimental study was carried out investigating the joint behavior subjected to reversed cyclic loading and constant axial compressive load. Two precast beam-column joint specimens and monolithic reinforced concrete joint specimen were tested. The variables for interior joints were cast-in-situ concrete area and transverse reinforcement within the joint. Tests were carried out under displacement controlled reverse cyclic load with a constant axial load. Joint performance is evaluated on the basis of connection strength, stiffness, energy dissipation, and displacement capacity. The test results showed that significant differences in structural behavior between the two types of connection because of different bonding characteristics between steel and concrete; steel and ECC. The proposed joint detail can induce to move the plastic hinge out of the ECC and steel plate. And proposed precast connection showed better performance than the monolithic connection by providing sufficient moment-resisting behavior suitable for applications in moderate seismic regions.
Artificial lightweight aggregates and solids were manufactured with coal ash(fly ash, bottom ash). In order to apply alkali-activated coal ash(fly ash, bottom ash) artificial lightweight aggregate to concrete, several experimental studies were performed. Thus, it can be noticed the optimal mix proportion, basic characteristies, mechanical properties and environmental safety of alkali-activated coal ash(fly ash, bottom ash) solid and alkali-activated coal ash(fly ash, bottom ash) artificial lightweight aggregate. Also, the freezing-thawing test property of concrete using the alkali-activated coal ash(fly ash, bottom ash) artificial lightweight aggregate was investigated. As a result, the optimal mixing proportion of coal ash(fly ash, bottom ash) solid to make alkali-activated artificial lightweight aggregates was cement $10\%$, water glass $15\%$, NaOH $10\%$, $MnO_2\;5\%$. Alkali-activated coal ash(fly ash, bottom ash) solid can achieve compressive strength of 36.4 MPa, at 7-days, after the paste was cured at air curing after moist curing during 24 hours in $50^{\circ}C$. Alkali-activated coal ash(fly ash, bottom ash) artificial lightweight aggregate that do impregnation to polymer was improved $10\%$ crushing strength $150\%$, and was available to concrete.

The present study tested 5 concrete mixes to develop reliable mixing proportions for the sustainable alkali-activated(AA) foamed concrete as a thermal insulation material for the floor heating system of buildings. The AA binder used was composed of 73.5% ground granulated blast-furnace slag, 15% fly ash, 5% calcium hydroxide, and 6.5% sodium silicate. As a main variable, the unit binder content varied from $325kg/m^3$ to $425kg/m^3$ at a space of $25kg/m^3$. The test results revealed that AA foamed concrete has considerable potential for practical applications when the unit binder content is close to $375kg/m^3$, which achieves the minimum quality requirements specified in KS F 4039 and ensures economic efficiency. In addition, lifecycle assessment demonstrated the reduction in the environmental impact profiles of all specimens relative to typical ordinary portland cement foamed concrete as follows: 99% for photochemical oxidation potential, 87~89% for global warming potential, 78~82% for abiotic depletion, and 70~75% for both acidification potential and human toxicity.
Recently, application of composite materials such as fiber reinforced concretes(FRCs) and fiber reinforced plastics(FRPs) in conjunction with conventional structural components has become one of the main research areas. A proper use of advanced composite materials requires understanding their resistance mechanism and failure mode when they are applied to structures or their components. Particular considerations are given in this research to develop an analytical model which can predict the nonlinear flexural responses of bonded and unbonded prestressed concrete beams possibly having layers of different cementitious composite matrices in a section and/or FRP tendons. The block concept is used, which can be regarded as an intermediate modeling method between the couple method with one block and the layered method with multiply sliced layers in a section. In order to find a particular deflection point of a beam under load, solutions to the 2N-variables are found numerically by using approximate N-force equilibrium equations and N-moment equilibirum equations. The model is shown to successfully predict the flexual behavior of variously reinforced bonded and unbonded prestressed concrete beams. The model is also successful in simulating a gradually increasing load after sudden drop inload resistance due to fracture of one or more FRP tendons. This feature is useful in tracing the overall load-deflection response of a beam prestressed with brittle FRP tendons.

Domestic studies on steel plate concrete structures have focused on nuclear structures with high strength. In this study, the SC structure was applied to the general structure, and the SC structure that is advantageous in terms of safety and construction was limited to a special structure. As a basic study for applying SC, this paper proposes basic design information of a SC structure applying cement concrete to plan the structure, which is suitable for eco - friendliness by replacing concrete cement, an important factor in a SC structure, with blast furnace slag. This study examined the compression characteristics and the effective length factor under central compression load. To calculate the effective length factor, the Euler column theory was applied without applying plate theory. The effective length factor was calculated from the yield strength of the steel plate, buckling of the steel plate, and the point at which the concrete was broken. In addition, this study examined whether the maximum compressive strength meets the national and international reference equations with the slenderness ratio (B/t) as a parameter. By analyzing the buckling of the specimen by applying the column theory and selecting the strain of the measured steel plate, the effective length factor was analyzed and compared with the value presented in the reference equation.
Recently, production cost of ready mixed concrete(remicon) has been increased due to the rising cost of raw materials such as cement and aggregate etc. cause by the upturn of oil price and increase of shipping charge. The delivery cost of remicon companies, however, has been decreased owing to their excessive competition in sale. Consequently, remicon companies began to manufacture the concrete by mixing ground granulated blast furnace slag(GGBF) in order to lower the production cost. Therefore, the objective of this study was to predict 28-day strength of GGBF slag concrete by early strength(1 day-strength, 7 day-strength) for the sake of managing with ease the quality of remicon. In experimental results, the prediction equation for 28 day-strength of GGBF slag concrete could be produced through the linear regression analysis of early strength and 28 day-strength. In order to acquire the reliability, all mixture were repeated as 3 times and each mixture order was carried out by random sampling. The prediction equation for 28 day-strength of GGBF slag concrete by 1-day strength(hot-water method) won the good reliability.
In this research, evaluation of adhesion in tension property of SBR-modified concrete to ordinary portland cement concrete was conducted with uniaxial direct tensile bond test which was proposed by Kuhlmann. A test set-up was fabricated in order to minimize the eccentric force by introducing a joint which might fully rotate. The main experimental variables were cement-latex ratios, surface preparations and moisture levels. The results obtained were as follows: The LMC specimen at 15% latex-cement ratio increased the adhesion in tension by range of 37% compared to that of conventional cement concrete. This might be due to latex film formed between cement paste and aggregate. The effects of surface preparation on bond of latex modified concrete to conventional concrete were significant at the conditions by sand paper and wire brush. A better bond could be achieved by rough surface rather than smooth. The saturated and surface dry (SSD) condition were considered to be the most appropriate moisture level followed by wet, finally by dry. Thus, a proper surface preparation and moisture level are quite necessity in order to obtain better bonding at LMC overlay.
This paper investigated the possibility of appling to concrete through fundamental experiment for garnet, which was industrial wastes generated in kyung pook region, in aspects of development of new materials and recycling of industrial wastes due to shortage of natural resources. Consequently, garnet powder showed the possibility of admixture as showed in the chemical composition because the content of silica and alumina in relation to pozzolanic activity was about 50%. The time of setting was more or less diminished as the increasing of replacement ratio of garnet. In flow test, flow values tended to increase to some degree as the increasing of replacement ratio of garnet. Therefore, application of garnet was expected to improve the workability of concrete. The compressive strength of mortar replaced by garnet was respectively increased as compared with plain mortar and the maximum strength was showed in replaced by 10%, however a little different to the change of W/B ratio. Also, the possibility of admixture to reduce the amount of cement and to improve the property of concrete was showed as the strength of mortar replaced by garnet was comparable to that by existing admixture(silica fume, fly-ash).
Several techniques for steel corrosion detection are proposed and HCP (half cell potential) technique is widely adopted for field investigation. If concrete has cracks on surface, steel corrosion is rapidly accelerated due to additional intrusion of chloride and carbon dioxide ions. This study is for an evaluation of HCP in cracked concrete exposed chloride attack. For this work, RC (reinforced concrete) beams are prepared considering 3 w/c ratios (0.35, 0.55, and 0.70) and several cover depths (10~60 mm) and various crack widths of 0.0~1.0 mm are induced. For 35 days, SST (salt spraying test) is performed for corrosion acceleration, and HCP and corrosion length of rebar are evaluated. With increasing crack width, w/c ratios, and decreasing cover depth, HCP measurements increase. HCP evaluation technique is proposed considering the effects of w/c ratios, crack width, and cover depth. Furthermore anti-corrosive cover depths are obtained through Life365 program and the results are compared with those from this study. The results shows relatively big difference in cracked concrete, however provide similar anti-corrosive conditions in sound concrete.
Basic properties of artificial lightweight aggregate by using waste dusts and strength properties of LWA concrete were studied. Bulk specific gravity and water absorption of artificial lightweight aggregates varied from 1.4 to 1.7 and 13 to 16%, respectively. Crushing ratio of artificial lightweight aggregate was above 10% higher than that of crushed stone or gravel. As a result of TCLP leaching test, the leaching amount of tested heavy metal element was below the leaching standard of hazardous material. Slump, compressive strength and stress-strain properties of LWA concrete made of artificial lightweight aggregate were tested. Concrete samples derived from LWA substitution ratio of 30 vol% and W/C ratio of 45 wt% showed the best properties overall. Thermal insulation and sound insulation characteristics of light weight concrete panel with the optimum concrete proportion were tested. Average overall heat transmission of 3.293W/㎡$^{\circ}C$ was observed. It was higher by about 15% than those of normal concrete made by crushed stone. Sound transmission loss of 50.9 ㏈ in frequency of 500 ㎐ was observed. It was higher by about 13% than standard transmission loss.
