Cross-Correlation Analysis between GOSAT and CO2 Concentration Observed by the KGAWC Station (GOSAT과 안면도 지상 관측소에서 측정된 이산화탄소의 상관성 분석)

  • GOSAT satellite $CO_2$ signal in years (June, 2009-December 2012) were compared with ground-based measurement at Anmyeon-do Korea Global Atmosphere Watch Center (KGAWC), located on the west coast of the Korean Peninsula. The result reveals that GOSAT signature is closely associated with ground-based measurement($R^2=0.49$). Strong correlation occurred between summer and fall ($R^2=0.62$) while weak relationship between satellite and ground-based measurement were identified in winter and spring ($R^2=0.37$). Average $CO_2$ concentration of GOSAT were 6.31 ppm lower than the corresponding values obtained from ground-based measurements on the same date. It is anticipated that this research output could be used as a valuable reference in introducing GOSAT to confirm data quality assurance for area-wide carbon monitoring process in relation to Anmyeon-do KGAWC $CO_2$ Concentration data.

Characterization and Color Reproduction Based on Average Picture Level if PDP Displays (평균화면밝기에 기반한 PDP 디스플레이의 특성화 및 색 재현)

  • This paper proposes a method of color reproduction considering the viewing conditions of a PDP TV. Because of a change of peripheral environments by a temporal and spatial location of observers, the ambient lightings should be considered in the process of color reproduction of displays. A conventional method enhances the contrast and saturation of images by controlling voltage gains in each channel, so that there is a limit to implementing the phenomenon of human adaptation. This method also faces difficulties in reproducing the perceived colors under a variety of viewing conditions. Accordingly, in order to solve this problem, we first characterize the device by considering the brightness and the flare effect. The chromatic adaptation is finally applied to reproduce colors in a PDP TV using the information from the viewing conditions by the sensor. The images reproduced by the proposed method are visually more superior to those reproduced by a conventional method in the experiments.

  • 본 연구는 격자기반의 지표면 유출 및 도시 유역 우수관거 유출해석모형으로서 유역을 관거 유입구를 기준으로 다수의 소유역들로 구분하고 각 소유역내 지표면 흐름을 비선형저류방정식으로 표현하여 유출량을 산정하는 방법 및 유역을 일정한 크기의 격자로 분할한 상태에서 각 격자의 유입 유출을 계산함으로써 주어진 시간 간격별로 유역 전체에 대한 물수지를 파악하는 격자 물수지식을 이용하는 방법을 결합하여 도시유역의 지표면 유출량을 산정하기 위한 격자기반의 분포형 지표면 유출해석 모형을 개발하는 것을 연구의 목적으로 하였다. 즉, 본 연구에서 개발한 유출모형은 지표면 유출의 메카니즘을 비선형저류방정식으로 표현한다는 점에서 SWMM의 방법을, 격자기반으로 유출량을 계산 추적한다는 것이다. 또한 도시지역의 침수형태 및 원인을 파악함과 동시에 기존의 도시유출 해석모형을 일부 수정 및 보완하여 집중호우발생시의 지표이동류 흐름, 폐합형 우수관거, 하류부의 배수영향 등을 고려한 우수관거 유출모델을 개발하였다. 본 모형을 이용하여 가상 및 실제 유역에 대한 유출모의를 수행함으로써 모형의 적용성을 평가하였다. 본 연구에서 제시하는 격자기반 도시유출해석모형은 대상유역을 일정한 크기의 격자로 구성하고 개개의 격자마다 유출해석을 위한 지형정보와 수문정보를 입력하여 격자별 유출량을 계산 추적함으로써 유역의 임의의 위치에서의 유출량, 유출심의 시간적 변화와 공간적인 분포를 모의할 수 있다. 가상 및 실제 유역에 대한 유출해석을 통하여 본 연구에서 개발한 모형은 이동강우나 국지적인 집중호우 등 시공간적으로 변하는 수문 특성을 반영할 수 있고, 폐합형 우수관망 해석 및 하류부 배수효과를 검토하여 도시유역의 홍수방재관리에 유용하게 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Motion Estimation in Video Coding using Search Candidate Point on Region by Binary-Tree Structure (이진트리 구조에 따른 구간별 탐색 후보점을 이용한 비디오 코딩의 움직임 추정)

  • In this paper, we propose a new fast block matching algorithm for block matching using the temporal and spatially correlation of the video sequence and local statistics of neighboring motion vectors. Since the temporal correlation of the video sequence between the motion vector of current block and the motion vector of previous block. The proposed algorithm determines the location of a better starting point for the search of an exact motion vector using the point of the smallest SAD(sum of absolute difference) value by the predicted motion vectors of neighboring blocks around the same block of the previous frame and the current frame and the predictor candidate point on each division region by binary-tree structure. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has the capability to dramatically reduce the search points and computing cost for motion estimation, comparing to fast FS(full search) motion estimation and other fast motion estimation.

  • 지하수 관리를 위해서는 시공간적인 변동성을 고려한 지하수 함양량의 정량적 산정이 필수적이다. 본 연구에서는 지표수-지하수 연동해석이 가능하며 토지이용 특성과 국내 토양특성을 가장 잘 표현할 수 있는 한국형 장기 유출 모형 SWAT-K를 이용하여 김천지역의 분포형 지하수 함양량을 산정하였다. 행정경계와 수자원단위지도에서 제시하는 표준단위유역을 기준으로 하여 김천시를 포함하는 유역을 SWAT-K 구동을 위한 모델영역으로 설정하여 주하도를 따라 19개의 소유역으로 구분하였다. SWAT-K를 구동하기 위해서는 기상 및 수문자료를 구축해야 하는데 강우량을 비롯하여 기온, 풍속, 일사량, 상대습도 등의 기상자료가 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 대상유역 내에 위치한 구미, 추풍령, 거창, 상주 기상관측소와 김천, 지례, 부항1, 부항2, 선산 강우관측소의 자료를 이용하여 기상 및 강우자료를 구축하였으며, 모형의 계산시간, 모형결과의 정확도 등을 판단하여 30m 공간해상도를 가지는 DEM을 300m 공간해상도로 가공하여 사용하였다. 토지이용도는 모의시 다양한 토지이용상태를 반영할 수 있도록 중분류(1:25,000) 토지이용도를 사용하였다. 토양도는 국립농업과학원에서 토양도 전산화 사업을 통해 구축된 1:25,000 축척의 정밀토양도를 사용하였다. SWAT-K를 이용하여 김천시를 포함한 전체유역에 대해 지표수-지하수 통합 물수지 분석 결과(2008년~2015년) 연평균 강수량 대비 유출률은 61.2%, 증발산률은 36.3%, 함양률은 18.0%로 나타났다. 지표수 유출과정과 지하수위 변동을 동시에 고려하여 산정한 소유역별 연간 함양량 결과를 산정하였고, 총 19개의 소유역별 연간 지하수 함양량을 제시하였다. 또한 SWAT-K 모형을 이용한 모델 영역중 김천시에 속하는 행정구역별, 표준권역별 연평균 함양량을 산출하였으며, 그 분석 결과 김천시 평균 함양률은 18.2%로 산정되었다.

Research trends in seabird and marine fish migration: Focusing on tracking methods and previous studies (바닷새 및 해양어류의 이동 연구 동향: 위치추적 기법과 연구 사례를 중심으로)

  • In this study, trends in research methods and topics of seabird and marine fish migration were examined. Based on the framework of existing animal migration studies, future research directions were proposed in relation to the migration of seabirds and fish. In terms of research methodology, with the development of science and technology, tracking techniques using radio telemetry, acoustic telemetry, RFID (radio-frequency identification), satellite tracking, and geolocators are widely used to study seabird and fish migration. Research is also conducted indirectly through a population survey and the analysis of substances in the body. Research contents are largely classified into extrinsic factors that affect migration(such as environmental variables and interspecific competition), intrinsic factors such as hormones, anthropogenic activities including fishery and offshore wind farm, and the effect of global climate change. In future studies, physiological factors that influence or cause migration and dispersal should be identified concerning intrinsic factors. For the analysis of migration ability, it is necessary to study effects of changes in the magnetic field on the migration ability of seabirds and fish, interspecific differences in spatiotemporal migration ability, and factors that influence the migration success rate. Regarding extrinsic factors, research studies on effects of anthropogenic disturbances such as fishery and offshore wind farm and global climate change on the migration and dispersal patterns of marine animals are needed. Finally, integrated studies on the migration of seabirds and fish directly or indirectly affecting each other in various ecological aspects are required.

Spatial and Temporal Distribution Characteristics of Zooplankton Appeared on Early Construction of Pumped Storage Power Plant Dam (양수발전댐의 건설 초기에 발생한 동물플랑크톤군집의 시.공간적인 분포특성)

  • Spatial and temporal distributions of zooplankton were measured in an oligotrophic pumped storage-type hydroelectric reservoir which was composed of two reservoirs exchanging water daily, with water going up at night and going down during the day. Repetitive diel disturbance of the water column can be a unique feature of this reservoir system. Chl-${\alpha}$ concentration was highest in the early winter season. Phytoplankton density was lower in summer monsoon due to high flushing rate on rainy days. The zooplankton density was higher in the smaller upper reservoir possibly due to lower fish density in the upper reservoir. In the seasonal variation a time gap was observed between the phytoplankton bloom and the zooplankton bloom (particularly a rotifer, Keratella cochlearis). It is likely to that Keratella production is partially supported by heterotrophic food sources than phytoplankton. The dominance of a mixotrophic dinoflagellate (Peridinium bipes f. ocultatum) might have complicated the trophic relationship between phytoplankton and zooplankton. Our results provide some ecological information of zooplankton community in a highly disturbed alpine reservoir ecosystem relying on mostly allochthonous organic matter.

Estimation of Groundwater Recharge by Considering Runoff Process and Groundwater Level Variation in Watershed (유역 유출과정과 지하수위 변동을 고려한 분포형 지하수 함양량 산정방안)

  • In Korea, there have been various methods of estimating groundwater recharge which generally can be subdivided into three types: baseflow separation method by means of groundwater recession curve, water budget analysis based on lumped conceptual model in watershed, and water table fluctuation method (WTF) by using the data from groundwater monitoring wells. However, groundwater recharge rate shows the spatial-temporal variability due to climatic condition, land use and hydrogeological heterogeneity, so these methods have various limits to deal with these characteristics. To overcome these limitations, we present a new method of estimating recharge based on water balance components from the SWAT-MODFLOW which is an integrated surface-ground water model. Groundwater levels in the interest area close to the stream have dynamics similar to stream flow, whereas levels further upslope respond to precipitation with a delay. As these behaviours are related to the physical process of recharge, it is needed to account for the time delay in aquifer recharge once the water exits the soil profile to represent these features. In SWAT, a single linear reservoir storage module with an exponential decay weighting function is used to compute the recharge from soil to aquifer on a given day. However, this module has some limitations expressing recharge variation when the delay time is too long and transient recharge trend does not match to the groundwater table time series, the multi-reservoir storage routing module which represents more realistic time delay through vadose zone is newly suggested in this study. In this module, the parameter related to the delay time should be optimized by checking the correlation between simulated recharge and observed groundwater levels. The final step of this procedure is to compare simulated groundwater table with observed one as well as to compare simulated watershed runoff with observed one. This method is applied to Mihocheon watershed in Korea for the purpose of testing the procedure of proper estimation of spatio-temporal groundwater recharge distribution. As the newly suggested method of estimating recharge has the advantages of effectiveness of watershed model as well as the accuracy of WTF method, the estimated daily recharge rate would be an advanced quantity reflecting the heterogeneity of hydrogeology, climatic condition, land use as well as physical behaviour of water in soil layers and aquifers.

An Interval Data Model for Tracing RFID Tag Objects (RFID 태그 객체의 위치 추적을 위한 구간 데이터 모델)

  • For tracing tag locations, a trajectories should be modeled and indexed in radio frequency identification (RFID) systems. The trajectory of a tag can be represented as a line that connects two spatiotemporal locations captured when the tag enters and leaves the vicinity of a reader. If a tag enters but does not leave a reader, its trajectory is represented only as a point captured at entry. Because the information that the tag stays in the reader is missing from the trajectory represented only as a point, we should extend the region of a query to find the tag that remains in a reader. In this paper, we propose an interval data model of tag's trajectory in order to solve the problem. Trajectories of tags are represented as two kinds of intervals; dynamic intervals which are time-dependent lines and static intervals which are fixed lines. We also show that the interval data model has better performance than others with a cost model

Active Adjustment: An Approach for Improving the Search Performance of the TPR*-tree (능동적 재조정: TPR*-트리의 검색 성능 개선 방안)

  • Recently, with the advent of applications using locations of moving objects, it becomes crucial to develop efficient index schemes for spatio-temporal databases. The $TPR^*$-tree is most popularly accepted as an index structure for processing future-time queries. In the $TPR^*$-tree, the future locations of moving objects are predicted based on the CBR(Conservative Bounding Rectangle). Since the areas predicted from CBRs tend to grow rapidly over time, CBRs thus enlarged lead to serious performance degradation in query processing. Against the problem, we propose a new method to adjust CBRs to be tight, thereby improving the performance of query processing. Our method examines whether the adjustment of a CBR is necessary when accessing a leaf node for processing a user query. Thus, it does not incur extra disk I/Os in this examination. Also, in order to make a correct decision, we devise a cost model that considers both the I/O overhead for the CBR adjustment and the performance gain in the future-time owing to the CBR adjustment. With the cost model, we can prevent unusual expansions of BRs even when updates on nodes are infrequent and also avoid unnecessary execution of the CBR adjustment. For performance evaluation, we conducted a variety of experiments. The results show that our method improves the performance of the original $TPR^*$-tree significantly.
