Conception and Design of U.I.-U.I. Manual of Seoul National University of Technology (U.I.의 개념 및 제작에 관한 고찰-서울산업대학교 U.I. 매뉴얼을 중심으로-)

  • Started from the Industrial Revolution in England, the design movement, the concept of plastic arts is spread and developed in many European countries. It meets new phase due to the much more developed industrial techniques and internationalized era since the World War II. The concept of identity in design appeared with industrial diversification, specialization, and inter- nationalization comes out through every visual identification standards. And the concept is used in public facilities and groups such as national institutions, schools, hospitals, or lots of religious bodies, as well as in industries to aim at the most profit from products' sale. Since the opening of Seoul National University of Technology in 1910, the university which has long history and tradition of about 90 years has used the unique visual identification in changing the University name to meet with the surrounding environment and the timely characteristics. However, the English name for the University was changed in 1998, so the new era to leap was open. Therefore, the University introduced formally the concept of U. I. (University Identification) with the new image. It is an inevitable outcome of modern time.

A Study on the Visual Characteristics of Korean Pharmaceutical Companies' CI Symbol Marks (국내 제약회사 심벌마크의 시각적 특징 연구)

  • Korean biopharmaceutical industry is a high value-added industries of the country as a key business strategy of the country. The overseas market is accelerating rapidly due to drug demand according to population aging, new drug R&D investment performance visualization, changes in biopharmaceutical R&D center, strategic foreign technology exports, and the active support of government. Therefore, the domestic pharmaceutical companies also should enhance the competitiveness as global pharmaceutical companies and need to build the image of their own company that can be trusted by consumers. This study compared and analyzed visual characteristics shown in the CI symbol mark and age-specific preferences of domestic pharmaceutical companies recognizing the importance of CI as a marketing tool. As a result, preference for the symbol mark had been shown to be significantly higher preference of the old logotype as the age group is higher being proportional to awareness. In addition, the picture-type symbol mark was totally preferred rather than the word mark. Among the picture-type symbol mark, the form of the nature was strongly preferred rather than abstract form. The company also requires a sense of responsibility for recognizing changes in the mass to the globalization. It is hoped that this study will help to develop symbol mark direction as the basis for the identity strategies to improve the image of domestic pharmaceutical companies with global competitiveness.

Self-Design Producing System and Method for Logo Design Using Network (네트워크를 이용한 셀프디자인 시스템에 관한 연구 - 로고디자인을 중심으로)

  • Conventional design producing systems using the Internet are largely classified into two groups: a basic type in which an operator of a design producing site receives an order for manufacture of a design from a purchaser, produces the design based on the content of the received order, and delivers the produced design to the purchaser; and a type in which a purchaser inspects given designs and select one of them for purchasing. Such conventional design producing systems have following problems. Firstly, receiving an order over the internet and delivering a produced design to a purchaser has nearly the same procedure as a conventional logo design procedure with the sole exception that an order can be received through the Internet. Therefore, the production of a design still costs a great deal and takes much time. Secondly, inspecting given designs, selecting one and producing the selected design is like simply selecting a picture, and thus a purchaser is not allowed to modify a design. To solve the above problems, it is an object of the present a new solution to provide a self-design producing system and method using network, in which a purchaser searches a design database for a design suitable for the purchaser's company, determines a design database by modifying design conditions, and makes an order for manufacture of a product to which the determined design is applied, through the Internet.

A study on the visual pun for web graphics (웹 그래픽의 비주얼펀(Visual Pun)적용 연구)

  • The concept of pun was basically used to get rhetorical effect in verbal usage and it can be easily applicable to visual communication design. By substituting symbolic images for words of verbal expression, we can draw out some effective communication methods in forms of pun. For years, visual puns have been useful concept to convey a visual message from ancient hieroglyphics to modern arts and design. There are essentially three categories of visual puns. Literal pun upholds the primary meanings of the message literally by picking up a key symbol to create two or more meanings, meanwhile suggestive pun is created when one symbol is used as a key symbol or two or more symbols are combined to created one key symbol that can suggest and strengthen meanings. Comparative pun can be defined two or more symbols of nearly the same appearance are combined or juxtaposed two or more times to enhance overall statement. The concept of visual pun used for traditional area can also be effective ways of new media communication. Thus it is natural to see the concept of visual puns in website. How to handle the images in website is the most critical point for differentiation. But recently, web site designers just seem to focus on somewhat functional aspect. There are certain types of web design formats, and many designers are tend to follow these routines unconsciously. In this situation, the new aspect of visual puns for web design can be a possible design method to fortify the overall message. Through this concept, we can build up some clear identity compared to other web sites and can get alternatives to perform more effective communication ways as a problem-solving process.

  • The corporate image is one of the key elements improving competitiveness of the business, and is conveyed to the public through a design management strategy and its activities with design identity. Therefore, it is important to enhance the corporate image through systematic design management. Recently, in the field of communication services, as a technical gap between corporations has been narrowed, and the importance of design has been magnified, more and more corporations have adopted the design management. It is, however, not easy to build and convey the corporate image to the public systematically, because not only do the corporations run a communication service, the corporations face various business areas and targets. In this study, we analyzed the relationship between the intended image of the corporate and users' visual experiences based on the surveys on the case of KT, which pioneered design management and has made outstanding design results. According to the result, KT's strategic image concepts have positive effects on users' visual experience in each subarea of its design identity. In conclusion, it is necessary to narrow the gap between users' experiences and images that a corporate intends to convey through continuous research on users' experiences and improvement in a design management system.

  • This study will analyze that the meaning and the characteristic of Information design type advertising. This study research the advertisement and Information with the issue and explore Information design type advertising samples by doing an in-depth analysis with an expert group and an inexpert group. It attracts customers visualizing sensational information and data as information design technique. It can be classified in to Manual type ad, Identity type ad, Data visualizing type ad. The communication formula of it goes through the keywords: Attention, Curation, Study, and these Curation and Study are new steps which didn't exist before in consumer behavior model. Information used in it comes from common sense or storytelling made by imagination, but there is no example of using false information distorting truth. Not exaggeration and falsehood, interesting which based on confidence creates a bond of sympathy: period time.

  • When various kinds of contents are developed in accordance with higher rate of Internet use to have quality conditions, added values can be elevated in genuinely strong power of Internet. As soon as visiting web site on Internet, men are invited to visit corresponding information web site by a variety of techniques and colors. The visual expression is thought to be important, and color plans of web designs play an important role. This is because the color decides on images of web design to transfer sense as an important element. The paper selected colors by each type of web site and investigated color images. The purpose of the paper is to classify local web sites by each type, for instance, identity, information/community, entertainment, shopping and learning, etc and to suggest directions of color image plan by each type of web site.

고양 종합운동장의 환경색채 디자인 개발 연구

  • There are various schemes to improve the environment of a rir in which we dwell. Among them environment color is one of formative elements that compose a city environment, the recognition about it is coming to be high gradually. A stabilized appropriate color of city environment gives a psychological social cultural effect to the people and also can be a useful method even in public information of city image, To give a citizen sensitive aesthetic and emotional satisfaction, a systematic rational design approach is necessary in an environment color plan. Hereupon, this study suggests one model of a concrete substantial color design through analyzing a present condition, for example, an existing environment, a case study about similar space, and a question investigation for finding out preference image and applying them to the color design. Through a rational systematic environment color design one can expect several effects making identity in a region, increasing a peculiar image or unity reinforcement by total application of color scheme, creating a visual environment with aesthetic characteristic, and efficiency of continuous color management system.

  • This study aims to figure out how the brand experience design elements works in the Shortform video-based branding through case analysis. The sense, feel, think, act, relate experience of Shortform video brand are provided through the implementation of specific experience design elements in the process of the creators expressing personality through social media channels and communicating and interacting with consumers. As a result, LIZIQI's food videos provided a brand identity as an 'Eastern gourmet' to consumers through the audiovisual stimulation of food in video, the cognitive reinforcement which is combined of identities and products, and the behavioral participation by web sites·electronic media. In addition, a strong brand relationship was established by sharing emotional ties using human factors and responsibility through co-branding. This can be extended to various Shortform video contents-based branding cases, and it will suggest a useful approach to the brand building strategy through strategic brand experience design elements.

  • The purpose of this paper is to explore and analyze design of USATODAY.COM aimed at being helpful for Chinese online news industry to search for the way forward. USATODAY.COM which converges print and online newsrooms is regarded as a pioneer in the online communication media. It engages interaction with users and their demand, and provides the best level of website and service design. This paper conducted through both theoretical works and design analyses by randomly visiting USATODAY.COM from May 23 to June 5, 2016. USATODAY.COM maintains consistent and high quality of a visual identity system on its homepage, and it is strongly linked to that of USA TODAY. Also, USATODAY.COM provides unique content provision methods, interactive features, advertisement and payment functions through service design considering the user experiences and needs. Based on its results, it is expected to contribute to Chinese online newspaper market which has an astonishing chance to grow.
