  • In this paper, we propose a walking assisting system for blind people using Android smartphone and Arduino board. In our proposed system, we use an Android smartphone case and an external ultrasonic sensor to detect the obstacles ahead. In this manner, blind people is able to aware unexpected objects by smartphone speakers or vibration functionality. In addition, the walking assisting system is also designed a notice system which will be triggered by built-in smartphone camera flash when blind people walk in some darkness place. The experimental results from real experiments on blind people have demonstrated the applicability of our walking assisting system, when it not only efficiently helps blind people avoid obstacles ahead but also possible traffic collisions in darkness condition.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the relation between visual analogue scale and recovery time with type of injury that occur in elite wrestling athletes. The incidence rate of injury was analyzed the Poisson ratio, and the VAS and recovery time according to the type of injury were compared using the one-way ANOVA. In addition, the VAS and recovery time were examine the relationship using the Simple Linear Regression, and statistical significance level was α =.05. Injuries occurred most commonly in the ligament, followed by the muscle, cartilage and tendon. The VAS and recovery time according to the type of injury was statistically significant (p=.001, p=.001, respectively). The VAS and recovery time according to the type of injury was statistically significant (p=.001, p=.001). Also, increase in VAS of 1 point was associated with about 1.89 recovery time. These studies are expected to be useful as basic data for return to sports and safe training.

  • In previous study, we developed a guidance system outdoors for person with visual impairment to be able to walk safely to the destination. The volunteers are exposed to dangerous situations since they are performed to the experiments in the outdoors. In order to solve the problem, we propose an interactive application that monitors the volunteer wearing guidance system and warns remotely the volunteer about dangerous situations. The application is used to remote wireless communication with guidance system through Bluetooth module that is built in a laptop computer, without additional device. Therefore, we can monitor in real time user's location and guided contents to user, and it is possible to check a path to the destination and POI (Point of Interest) coordinate values. As using a proposed monitoring application, it is possible to perform safe experiment with the rapid situation awareness and fast detection of dangerous.

  • This paper introduces the improved and expanded contents of the previous research that implemented a system that guides the visually impaired using the vibration of a smart watch. In the previous study, we proposed an algorithm that recommends the most safe route based on calculating negative and positive values for the topography of the route and the features installed on the route. In addition, by designing several vibration patterns, a system that guides the user through vibration was proposed and implemented. In this paper, the user's personal preferences are reflected in the algorithm that recommends the safe route first. In addition, an automatic feedback function was added to the algorithm so that the user's satisfaction evaluation on the recommended route was immediately reflected. A history simulation function was added so that the past route could be reviewed, and the compass of a smart watch was used to help visually impaired people find directions at junctions.

  • Crosswalks play an important role for the safe movement of pedestrians in a complex urban environment. However, for the visually impaired, crosswalks can be a big risk factor. Although assistive tools such as braille blocks and acoustic traffic lights exist for safe walking, poor management can sometimes act as a hindrance to safety. This paper proposes a method to improve accuracy in a deep learning-based real-time crosswalk detection model that can be used in applications for pedestrian assistance for the disabled at the beginning. The image was binarized by utilizing the characteristic that the white line of the crosswalk image contrasts with the road surface, and through this, the crosswalk could be better recognized and the location of the crosswalk could be more accurately identified by using two models that learned the whole and the middle part of the crosswalk, respectively. In addition, it was intended to increase accuracy by creating a boundary box that recognizes crosswalks in two stages: whole and part. Through this method, additional frames that the detection model did not detect in RGB image learning from the crosswalk image could be detected.
