A Study on the Development of Forest Fire Occurrence Probability Model using Canadian Forest Fire Weather Index -Occurrence of Forest Fire in Kangwon Province- (캐나다 산불 기상지수를 이용한 산불발생확률모형 개발 -강원도 지역 산불발생을 중심으로-)

  • Fine fuel moisture code (FFMC), a main component of forest fire weather index(FWI) in the Canadian forest fire danger rating system(CFFDRS), indicated a probability of ignition through expecting a dryness of fine fuels. According to this code, a rising of temperature and wind velocity, a decreasing of precipitation and decline of humidity in a weather condition showed a rising of a danger rate for the forest fire. In this study, we analyzed a weather condition during 5 years in Kangwon province, calculated a FFMC and examined an application of FFMC. Very low humidity and little precipitation was a characteristic during spring and fall fire season in Kangwon province. 75% of forest fires during 5 years occurred in this season and especially 90% of forest fire during fire season occurred in spring. For developing of the prediction model for a forest fire occurrence probability, we used a logistic regression function with forest fire occurrence data and classified mean FFMC during 10 days. Accuracy of a developed model was 63.6%. To improve this model, we need to deal with more meteorological data during overall seasons and to associate a meteorological condition with a forest fire occurrence with more research results.

Thermophysiological Responses of Wearing Safety Hat for Working at a Hot Environment (서열환경하에서 안전모 착용시의 인체생리학적 반응)

  • The present study is aimed to investigate the effect of the safety hat on the balance of body temperature by observation of the physiological response under hot working environment. The experiment was carried out in a climate chamber of 3$0^{\circ}C$, 50%RH for 70 minutes. To compare the two kinds of safety hat, 5 healthy male subjects worn safety hat without hole (called 'without hole') or safety hat with hole (called 'with hole') according to a randomized cross-over design. The main results of this study are as fellows: Rectal temperature and heart rate were significantly lower level in 'with hole'than in 'without hole'. The mean skin temperature was significantly higher in 'without hole'than in 'with hole'. Blood pressure were significantly low in 'with hole'. Sweat rate which was measured by weight loss before and after experiment was higher in 'without hole'. In subjective ratings, subjects replied more hot, more uncomfortable and more wet, they felt more fatigue in condition of 'without hole'. Work ability which was measured by a grip strength dynamometer was higher in 'with hole'. Safety hat which can be used for safety of the brain in work place is meaningful device of behavioral thermoregulatory response under the hot working environment. The safety hat which is designed for proper ventilation and hygiene can maintain the homeostasis of body temperature by releasing body temperature efficiently.

Investigation of Physiological and Yield Responses to Temperature Increases in Northern-ecotype Garlic (Allium sativum L. ) 'Uiseong' in Temperature Gradient Tunnels (한지형 마늘 '의성'의 온도구배하우스내 온도상승에 따른 생육 및 생리장해 조사)

  • Garlic (Allium sativum L.) is one of the most important vegetables used in various foods in Korea and many countries. The growth of garlic is influenced by various abiotic factors such as cultivation temperature, humidity, minimum temperature duration, and photoperiod. This study investigated the effects of increasing temperatures on the plant growth of the northern- ecotype garlic 'Uiseong' in a temperature gradient tunnel. As a result, temperature increase led to decreases in the bulb diameter, weight, and clove pieces of garlic. The rise of cultivation temperature increased the occurrence rate of incomplete bolting in the Northern-ecotype garlic 'Uiseong', resulting in decreases in productivity and a decrease in the yield of marketable garlic, indicating that temperature increases affect the development of garlic bulb formation. The findings of this study are expected to contribute as foundational data for understanding the growth responses of the northern-ecotype 'Uiseong' to increasing cultivation temperatures. The results of this study can be used to develop designing garlic growth models. In addition, the results of this study can improve understanding the interaction between increased temperature and garlic growth.

Microbiological Quality of Dried and Powdered Foods Stored at Various Relative Humidities (여러 상대습도에 저장된 건조분말 식품의 미생물적 품질 변화)

  • This study evaluated the microbial quality of dried and powdered foods during storage with increased humidity because of climate change. Five types of dried and powdered foods (dried shredded squid, wheat flour, Sunsik, red pepper powder, and roasted sesame seed) were stored at different relative humidities (RH 23%, 43%, 68%, 85%, and 100%) and changes in water activity and microbial populations were measured during storage at $35^{\circ}C$ for 15 days. The results revealed that water activity values of dried and powdered foods were significantly increased during storage when samples were stored at RH 85 and 100%. In addition, levels of total mesophilic bacteria, yeast, and mold were significantly increased after storage for 6 days or 9 days at RH 85% and 100%. However, levels of Escherichia coli and coliform did not increase significantly during storage. Based on these findings, dried and powdered foods should not be stored at high RH because the increased water activity enables microbial growth.

Trial Manufacture and Disinfection Evaluation of Anoxic Chamber System for Museum Insects (저산소 농도 살충 챔버 시스템 시제작 및 박물관 해충 살충 성능 평가)

  • Anoxic treatments using argon and nitrogen gas in controlled atmospheres have been used as a alternative to methyl bromide for insect disinfection in museums. Anoxic chamber system was manufactured and installed at The National Folk Museum of Korea for the first time in Korea. The internal capacity of anoxic chamber is 0.5m3 in which is able to use argon, nitrogen and carbon dioxide gas. This system is equipped with oxygen concentration, temperature and ralative humidity control devices and automatically controlled oxygen concentration from 0.01 to 20%, temperature from 10 to $50^{\circ}C$ and relative humidity 30 to 80%. To control the oxygen concentration, anoxic chamber system is adopted semi-dynamic method which supplies mixture of humidified gas and dry gas whenever oxygen concentration in chamber becomes higher than setting value. It has kept regularly oxygen concentration, temperature and relative humidity for 20 days using argon gas. To evaluate the disinfection of cigarette beetle larvae and adults and varied carpet beetle larvae, the anoxic chamber system maintained 0.01% of oxygen concentration, $25^{\circ}C$ in temperature and 50% in relative humidity for 30 days. Cigarette beetle larvae were killed in 7 days and adults in 3~5 days. And varied carpet beetle larvae were killed in 3 days. It reaches the conclusion form the evaluation this anoxic chamber system can be used to develop anoxic treatment as an alternative of methyl bromide for insect disinfection of infested cultural properties in museums.

The Variation of Surface Runoff according to Climate Change Scenario (기후변화 시나리오에 따른 지표유출량 변화)

  • 기후변화는 자연적 요인보다는 인간의 활동으로부터 기인하는 것으로 알려진다. 지구 온난화의 영향으로 우리나라의 평균 기온은 상승하고 있으며, 강수량 또한 증가추세에 있다. 이러한 미래 기온의 상승과 강수량의 변화는 나아가 수문 순환에 영향을 미치며, 수자원의 효과적인 이용을 위하여 기후변화에 따른 수문 순환 특성을 파악하는 것은 매우 중요하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 국제 수문 프로그램의 대상 유역 중 하나로 장기간의 강우-유출 자료가 구축되어있는 청미천 유역을 대상으로, 기후변화에 따른 지표 유출량 변화를 살펴본다. 기후변화를 전망하기 위한 방법으로 인간 활동이 대기에 미치는 복사량으로 온실 가스 농도를 정의하는 시나리오인 대표농도경로(Reperentative Concentration Pathway, RCP)를 적용하였다. 기상청에서 제공되는 여러 RCP 시나리오 중 기후변화가 현재의 추세를 쫓아 상승 형태를 나타내는 RCP 8.5 시나리오와 저감 정책이 어느 정도 실현되어 형태가 안정된 RCP 4.5 시나리오 두 개를 선정하였다. 기후변화 시나리오는 근본적으로 불확실성을 포함하기 때문에, 특정 기후변화를 가정하기 보다는 특성이 대비되는 두 개 시나리오를 적용하여 기후변화의 발달 정도에 따른 유출량 변화를 살펴보고자 한다. 장기간의 수문 순환 특성을 모의하기 위하여 준 분포형 장기유출 모형인 Soil and Water Assessment Tool(SWAT)을 이용하며, SWAT에서 요구되는 방대한 양의 매개변수들은 매개변수의 최적값 산정 프로그램인 SWAT Calibration and Uncerntianty Programs (SWAT-CUP)을 통해 얻는다. 과거의 강우-유출 자료로부터 구축된 SWAT 모형에 기후변화 시나리오를 적용함으로써 기후변화 시나리오에 따른 지표유출량 변화를 살펴볼 수 있다. 구축된 SWAT 모형을 이용하여 모의를 한 결과, 두 개 시나리오 모두에서 청미천 유역의 지표유출량이 증가하는 것으로 나타났으며 RCP 4.5 시나리오보다 RCP 8.5 시나리오에서 더 많은 유출이 발생할 것으로 전망된다. 유출량의 증가와 함께 총 부유사량 또한 증가 추세에 있으며, RCP 8.5 시나리오에서 더 많은 유출이 계산된다. 이러한 유출량의 증가는 강수량, 기온, 일사량, 풍속, 습도와 같은 기후 특성의 변화가 고려된 결과로 판단된다. 기후변화에 따른 총 유사량의 증가는 범용토양 유실공식에서 강우 에너지의 증가로 인해 유출량과 동일한 양상을 띠는 것으로 판단된다.

  • 기후변화는 강수유형, 기온상승과 일사량의 변화로 인한 증발산량의 변화, 유역 식생피복변화로 인한 지표-대기 관계의 변화와 같은 현상을 통해 지역 부존 수자원과 유출량에 큰 변화를 가져올 수 있다. 특히 지표면의 76%를 차지하고 있는 식생피복은 지표와 대기 사이의 물 순환과정에서 중요한 인자이다. 본 연구에서는 넓은 지역에 대한 식생피복의 파악이 용이한 NOAA 위성의 AVHRR (Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer) 센서로부터 얻을 수 있는 정규화 식생지수 (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index, NDVI)를 통하여 현 식생정보를 정량화하였다. 이로부터 토지피복별 NDVI와 기상인자(기온, 강수량, 일조시간, 풍속, 습도) 사이의 상관관계를 분석하고, 이를 기후변화 시나리오에 의한 기상인자로 부터 토지피복에 따른 미래 NDVI를 추정하였다.

  • 은나노와이어 투명전극은 높은 투과도와 높은 전도도를 가짐과 동시에 높은 유연성을 가지고 있어 차세대 투명전극으로 주목받고 있다. 많은 연구자들이 이를 이용하여 다양한 전자소자에 대한 적용 연구를 수행하고 있고, 터치스크린에 적용한 제품 등이 실제로 선보이고 있다. 하지만 ITO에 비해 높은 생산 단가와 낮은 열적, 환경적인 안정성은 이를 다양한 품목에서 실용화하는데에 있어 문제가 되고 있다. 은나노와이어에 장시간 열이 가해지거나, 습도에 노출되거나, 국소 부분에 높은 열/전류가 가해지게 되면 Rayleigh Instability 현상을 보이며 각각의 나노와이어가 끊어지는 현상이 발생한다. 또한, 공기 중의 수분에 의한 산화가 발생하는 문제도 존재한다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 상부에 이종의 물질을 덮어 Passivation을 수행하지만, 이는 생산 단가의 상승으로 이어진다. 본 연구에서는 플라즈마 기술을 활용하여 은나노와이어의 특성을 강화시키는 연구를 수행하였고, 이종의 물질 형성 없이 전기적, 환경적 안정성을 향상시킬 수 있었다. 또한 전기적 특성의 향상으로 인해 더 적은 은나노와이어의 양으로도 같은 전기적 특성을 가질 수 있었고, 이를 통해 높은 투과도/재료소모 절감의 효과를 동시에 얻을 수 있었다.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the influence of air temperature and relative humidity on excessive drying rate of burley tobacco. In experiment I, 4 temperatures and I humidity by day and air curing by night were treated from initial curing stage. In experiment II, 15 combinations of 3 temperatures and 5 humidities were applied from the yellow stage of cure. Yellowish cured leaves resulted from overdrying at high temperature and especially, at low humidity. How- ever, these were not produced at 75-80% RH and under 35$^{\circ}C$ by day with air curing b y night. The proper range of temperature and humidity for desirable color of cured leaf were the combinations of 30$^{\circ}C$, 75-80% RH or 35$^{\circ}C$, 80-85% RH. As excessive drying leaves increased, physical properties of cured leaves were poorer and chemical contents were less decomposed.

A Study on the Change of Humidity by City Size in South Korea (한국의 도시 규모별 습도 변화에 관한 연구)

  • This study aimed to investigate the change of humidity by city size in South Korea. Using daily mean relative humidity and water vapor pressure during the period of 1954~2011 for 14 weather stations in South Korea, the change of humidity by city size was analyzed. The change of relative humidity had a continuous decreasing trend for the period of 1954~2011. The decreasing trend in large city was bigger than these of rural one. The seasonal relative humidity was significantly changed in spring and winter. The change of water vapor pressure was rarely changed significance of the results by city size. It was not shown the result to constant trend by city size. There was a negative correlation between relative humidity and mean temperature. And change of relative humidity was correlated with city size. Moreover, there was not correlation between relative humidity and water vapor pressure by city size. The decreasing trend of relative humidity was similar to increasing trend of temperature by urbanization. However, there was not shown significant result of water vapor pressure.
