In this paper, we propose an efficient tag sleep method utilizing empty time slots for improving the tag collection performance in active RFID systems. In the proposed tag sleep method, the reader detects the occurrence of empty time slots by carrier sensing and utilizes the wasted empty time slots to transmit sleep commands to the collected tags throughout the framed slotted aloha-based tag collection process, resulting in reducing the time required for tag collection. Via the simulation experiments, we evaluated the performance of the tag collection applied with the proposed tag sleep method, compared with that of the basic tag collection. The simulation results showed that the tag collection applied with the proposed tag sleep method could reduce the average tag collection time by 12.28%, 12.30%, and 13.31 %, for the framed slotted aloha with the fixed 128 time slots and 256 time slots, and the dynamic framed slotted aloha anticollision protocols, respectively.
For the implementation of a RFID system, an anti-collision algorithm is required to identify multiple tags within the range of a RFID Reader. There are two methods of anti-collision algorithms for the identification of multiple tags, conclusive algorithms based on tree and stochastic algorithms based on slotted ALOHA. In this paper, we propose a Dynamic Framed Slotted ALOHA-Slot Congestion(DFSA-SC) Algorithm. The proposed algorithm improves the efficiency of collision resolution. The performance of the proposed DFSA-SC algorithm is showed by simulation. The identification time of the proposed algorithm is shorter than that of the existing DFSA algorithm. Furthermore, when the bit duplication of the tagID is higher, the proposed algorithm is more efficient than Query Tree algorithm.

Tag collection is one of the major functions in RFID systems. In this paper, we propose a multichannel slotted-aloha anticollision protocol to mitigate the tag collision problem and improve tag collection performance in active RFID systems. In the proposed anticollision protocol, while an RFID reader transmits commands to multiple RFID tags via a common channel, it receives multiple tag responses over multiple channels simultaneously. We also implemented an active RFID system supporting the proposed anticollision protocol. In experiments with the implemented reader and 60 tags, the proposed dual-channel slotted-aloha anticollision protocol showed a large improvement in tag collection performance compared with the single-channel slotted-aloha anticollision protocol. With 60 tags, the average time spent on tag collection using the dual-channel anticollision protocol was 600.543 ms, which was 46.3% of the 1289.721 ms required using the single-channel anticollision protocol.
This study includes the efficiency assessment of a multiple access protocol for UUV (Underwater unmanned vehicle) control. Most of UUVs are controled by wire now; however, wireless control is demanded because of the demerit of the wire control that limits the place and activity. This study simulates efficiency of a standardization multiple access protocol (Pure ALOHA, Slotted ALOHA, Nonpersistent CSMA, Slotted Nonpersistent ISMA) formed for the purpose of performing wireless communication controlled by the ship or communication buoy at the sea surface and by the under water communication node at the bottom in order to efficiently control the UUV's. Results show that no significant changes occur related to changing type of the mother ship and the communication node; In addition, the Non-persistent CSMA and the Slotted Non-persistent ISMA show relatively high efficiency for underwater acoustic communication.

Tag collection is one of the major concerns in radio frequency identification(RFID) system. All tags in RFID reader's transmission range send response message back to the reader in response to collection request message on the given rf channel. When multiple tags respond simultaneously, tag-collision may occur. Tag-collision problem is one of the most important issues in active RFID performance. To mitigate this problem, frame slotted ALOHA(FSA) anti-collision protocol is widely used in active RFID system. Several studies show that the maximum system efficiency of FSA anti-collision protocol is 36.8%. In this paper, we propose an efficient slotted CSMA/CA protocol to improve tag collection performance. We compare our protocol to the FSA anti-collision protocol. For the experiment, an 433MHz active RFID system is implemented, which is composed of an RFID reader and multiple tags. We evaluated the tag collection performance using one RFID reader and 40 tags in the real test bed. The experimental result shows that proposed protocol improves the tag collection time, round and collision probability by 18%, 37.4% and 77.8%, respectively.
In this paper we focus on dynamic reservation slot allocation scheme for supporting QoS of a voice traffic in WATM MAC. Especially, voice traffic is the most important real-time object, and so we propose a new MAC protocol for voice traffic over WATM networks in the multimedia environment. According to the characteristics of voice traffic which is repeatedly in silent state and active state, new protocol allocates reservation slots dynamically with respect to the number of silent voice source of which starting time is stored to the state table in base station (BS). The simulation results show that the proposed protocol has better performance than slotted ALOHA in average access delay, collision rate, better than NC-PRMA(Non Collision Packet Reservation Multiple Access) in band width efficiency, and can provide a certain level of QoS requirement by the given slot assignment even though the number of voice terminals is increased.
This paper proposed to compare and analyze the data throughput of ALOHA and Slotted-ALOHA method which were used to the communication of satellites in an early stage and apply to the data throughput of a transponder in an RFID system. The ALOHA method is the operation priority to a transponder but the Slotted ALOHA method is the operation priority to an reader in an RFID system. Because ALOHA method transmits the data to an reader as a authority of a transponder at random time when generating collisions, therefore, it seems reasonable to conclude that ALOHA method is inefficient for the data throughput and the efficiency of collision interval than Slotted-ALOHA method that synchronizes and controls the transponder in an reader.

One of the biggest problems that should be solved in present RFID systems is a reduction of identification efficiency by the collision of singals between different tags. As the number of tags, which should be identified, increases over the size of allocated round, more slots experiences the collision between them. It can causes generation of tag collision assigning the fixed round size and so, allocated round size should be regulated properly. This paper proposes the algorithm which can reduce collision between tags, and allocate specific round size dynamically for efficient tag identification. After each round is finished, the reader allocates the round size dynamically using the collision information of the slot. All collision informations of the slot consists of the number of slots which came into conflict, tags which were realized properly without any conflictions and empty slots. We used slotted aloha algorithm as the collision detection algorithm and finally, checked that this could be used very usefully when this algorithm which was proposed effectively could not know how many number of tags were exisisted through the simulation in advance.

Tag collection is one of the major functions in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems. IS0/IEC 18000-7 defines the tag collection algorithm using the anti-collision algorithm, based on the framed slotted ALOHA for active RFID systems. However, it has inefficiency problems that reduce tag collection performance by deciding non-optimum slot size or using point-to-point commands to put collected tags to sleep. In this paper, we propose two mechanisms to overcome the inefficiency problems and improve tag collection performance: 1) a new slot size decision mechanism to allow the reader to choose the optimum slot size flexibly and 2) a broadcast-based sleep mechanism to put collected tags to sleep effectively. We also implemented an active RFID system, composed of an active RFID reader and multiple tags, and the reader is designed to maximize tag collection performance when the proposed mechanisms are applied. In experiments, we evaluated the tag collection performance using one reader and 50 tags in the real-world environment. The experimental results show that when two mechanisms are applied and the initial number of slots is chosen appropriately, the performance of the proposed tag collection algorithm is greatly enhanced, compared with that of the standard.
