  • In this paper, a random number generator for simulation of speech-waveform coders was designed. A random number generator having a desired probability density function and a desired power spectral density is discussed and experimental results are presented. The technique is based on Sondhi algorithm which consists of a linear filter and a memoryless nonlinearity. Several methods of obtaining memoryless nonlinearities for some typical continuous distributions are discussed. Sondhi algorithm is analyzed in the time domain using the diagonal expansion of the bivariate Gaussian probability density function. It is shown that the Sondhi algorithm gives satisfactory results when the memoryless nonlinearity is given in an antisymmetric form as in uniform, Cauchy, binary and gamma distribution. It is shown that the Sondhi algorithm does not perform well when the corresponding memoryless nonlinearity cannot be obtained analytically as in Student-t and F distributions, and when the memoryless nonlinearity can not be expressed in an antisymmetric form as in chi-squared and lognormal distributions.

  • To investigate spatial and temporal variations of low-frequency (${\leq}5Hz$) ambient seismic noise, we analyzed the noise data recorded for one whole year of 2014 at surface accelerometer stations in South Korea. After decomposed into low-frequency (LF; < 1 Hz) and high-frequency (HF; ${\geq}1Hz$) components, the root-mean-squared (RMS) amplitudes and power spectral densities (PSD) of the noise data were computed. The RMS amplitudes were larger on islands and near-shore stations, but also large RMS amplitudes were observed at inland stations in large cities only for HF components. The RMS amplitudes of HF components were larger in the daytime than at nighttime and during weekdays than on Sunday and holidays. This indicates the HF components are closely related to human activities. On the contrary, daily and weekly variations were not clear in the LF components while they showed seasonal variations with its maximum during the winter and a good correlation with significant wave height. Therefore, we interpret the mechanism of LF components is closely related to natural phenomena such as sea. The amplitude of LF components decreased as an exponential function of the distance to the center of typhoons. The exponential index of -0.76 suggested that ambient seismic noise included both surface and body waves. Peak frequencies of the PSD curves were near 0.34 Hz indicating the double frequency. No temporal variation in the peak frequency was clearly noticed.

  • Time series analysis was performed on data from 2009 to 2018 from the Chuncheon groundwater observation network to understand the characteristics of groundwater level fluctuations in the network. There are five observatories, all of which are installed in rock aquifers, and periodic inspections and management are performed by the relevant operating organization. Auto-correlation, spectral density, and cross-correlation analysis was performed.

  • The primary objective of this study is to characterize traffic axle loadings that consider Korea specific traffic conditions for developing mechanistic-based pavement design method as a part of Korea Pavement Research Program(KPRP). Although the concept of equivalent single axle load(ESAL) has been generally used since the 1960s for the pavement design, the mechanistic-based pavement design procedure requires more accurate axle loading data on the specific pavement. In this study, axle loading data were collected according to vehicle type and highway functional classification. Axle-load spectrum was then standardized by cumulative density function(cdf), because the axle load spectrum could vary from the observed site, truck traffic volume, and truck type, Finally, this study presented the procedure and S-shaped exponential models for characterizing axle load spectra according to vehicle type and highway functional classification.

  • In this study, a new algorithm for canceling MRI artifact due to translational motion in image plane is described. Unlike the conventional iterative phase retrieval algorithm, in which there is no guarantee for the convergence, a direct method for estimating the motion is presented. In previous approaches, the motions in the x(read out) direction and the y(phase encoding) direction are estimated simultaneously. However, the features of x and y directional motions are different from each other. By analyzing their features, each x and y directional motion is canceled by different algorithms in two steps. First, it is noticed that the x directional motion corresponds to a shift of the x directional spectrum of the MRI signal, and the non-zero area of the spectrum just corresponds to the projected area of the density function on the x-axis. So the motion is estimated by tracing the edges between non-zero area and zero area of the spectrum, and the x directional motion is canceled by shifting the spectrum in inverse direction. Next, the y directional motion is canceled by using a new constraint condition, with which the motion component and the true image component can be separated. This algorithm is shown to be effective by using a phantom image with simulated motion.

  • In this paper we introduce the time series clustering methods in the time and frequency domains and discuss the merits or demerits of each method. We analyze 15 daily stock prices of KOSPI 200, and the nonparametric method using the wavelet shows the best clustering results. For the clustering of nonstationary time series using the spectral density, the EMD method remove the trend more effectively than the differencing.

  • In this study, analysis of dynamic characteristics and flight vibration was performed to unmanned aerial vehicles. The analysis model was supplemented by performing a dynamic characteristic test and a random vibration test using manufactured dummy aerial vehicle. For the dynamic characteristic test, a bungee cable was used to implement the free end boundary condition. Prior to the flight vibration test using a multiple electric shaker, a random vibration test was performed to predict the excitation force during the actual flight vibration test. It was judged that the actual test could be predicted more accurately by supplementing the analysis model from the test results. In addition, it was possible to determine the feasibility of the test by predicting the excitation force of the flight vibration test.

  • Analysis of dynamic characteristics and flight vibration test for unmanned aerial vehicles was studied by using dummy test body. The FEM model for dummy test body was supplemented by results of modal and random vibration test. The free end boundary condition to simulate flight environments was made by test setup using bungee cable. Prior to the flight vibration test using a dual electric vibration exciters, the test procedure to calculate quantitative vibration level was studied by using military specification. The actual test was successfully done by using the analysis and pretest results. From the analysis results, it was possible to determine the feasibility of the test by predicting the excitation force of the flight vibration test and to get the response of any point which could not be measured by the test. The results of this study will much contribute to the Test and Evaluation of unmanned aerial vehicles.

  • The purpose of study is to investigate the flame stability and Structure of turbulent diffusion flame behind the hollowed flame holder, which is located on the waste gas coming out from the test furnace. Fluctuating temperature and ion current measurement and their statistical treatment were used for the purpose. Three types of flame were stabilized and each of which were changed by adequate equivalence ration. And we found that have no periodicity near reacting zone.

  • This paper presents a complete analysis for the derivation of the probability of error for a fast (or multiple-hops per bit) frequency hopping spread spectrum system employing binary FSK modulation and noncoherent reception in the presence of partial-band noise jamming and thermal noise. The worst-case error rate performances were obtained numerically and presented as a function of E /N with L as a parameter, where E /N and L are the signal bit energy-to-jamiming density ratio and the number of hops per bit, respectively.
