  • The conservative treatment for impingement and rotator cuff tear includes rest, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), local steroid injection and physiotherapy depending on the purpose to relieve the pain and inflammation, in addition, stretching exercise to recover flexibility and strengthening exercise to recover the function could be used. When these conservative treatments are divided into multiple steps, the first one contains pain relief, modification of daily activity and stretching exercise. Second step includes strengthening exercise of the anterior/posterior cuff and peri-scapular muscles and eventually. The third step includes training program to return to job, housework and hobby activities and maintain. Thus, the key of these step wise approach for the treatment of impingement and rotator cuff tear is exercise program. Understanding of various exercise program and apply to the patients properly is most important for the conservative treatment of impingement and cuff tear.

  • In this paper a cervical rehabilitation robot for Mckenzie exercises to be effective to neck pain relief is proposed. The robot has two degrees of freedom (DOF) for Lateral flexion and extension, Dorsal and Vental flexion which enable user to perform cervical stretching and isometric exercises for neck muscles. The mechanical parts of the cervical rehabilitation robot can be mounted on a back- or head-rest of chair, and user can perform the Mckenzie exercise with seated. In experiments we measured the range of motion of cervical part, EMG signals from neck muscles and the contact forces of a head bracket fixing the head part of user, and then evaluated their performances. From the experimental results, we showed a feasibility of the cervical rehabilitation robot proposed in this study.

  • Objective : We found out improvement at low back pain and lumber strength by isotonic lumbar extension training on lumbar strength and self low back exercise stretching program. Methods : We evaluated the symptom's changes VAS(Visual Analogue Scale) and lumbar strength by Medx which could estimate and exercise lumbar muscle. Conclusions: We can decrease low back pain by strengthening lumbar muscle, in additionally when patients are In admission state we may improve lumbar muscle more than Opd. state.

  • This study was designed to examine the effects of 12 weeks of circuit exercise on obesity, physical fitness and metabolic syndrome index in elderly obese women. 19 elderly obese women volunteered to participate in and completed the study. Participants went through their exercise program for 30 minutes per session and 3 sessions per week for 12 weeks. Lower(p<.001) and upper extremities strength(p<.05), upper(p<.05) and lower extremities flexibility(p<.01), agility & dynamic balance(p<.001), endurance exercise capacity(p<.05) were significantly increased after 12 weeks circuit training. Also, Body weight(p<.001), BMI(p<.001) & Metabolic syndrome index as waist circumference(p<.01), systolic BP(p<.05), TG(p<.001), HDL-C(p<.01), glucose(p<.05) were significantly differenced between pre and post. It was concluded that circuit exercise program has positive effects on body composition, physical fitness and metabolic syndrome index in elderly obese women.

  • The purpose of this research is to study how the stretching exercise along with heat and electric therapy can effect on Angle of Lumbar Flexion and Reduction of Pain against the Hamstring Construction Symptom that can be found in the Chronic Low Back Patients. The target of research was 28 person selected out of the patients diagnosed as Lumbar Sprain and Lumbar Syndrome, who have positive from the active test of Hamstring construction and passive test. Their age range is 20 to 60 years old, 14 male and 14 female. As a research method, simple heat and electric therapy was applied to counter part while Hamstring Stretching Exercise including simple heat and electric therapy was applied to the experimental part. After 6 weeks treatment for each part, the results of effect on Angle of Lumbar Flexion and Pain Reduction was compared and analysed on the basis of the gravity angle meter and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). The outcome of research is as follows: 1. Angle of Lumbar Flextion increased effectively not in the conventional counter group but the experimental group to which Hamstring Stretching was applied simultaneously. 2. remarkable effect was shown in the experimental part applied Hamstring Stretching. Consequently from the results of this study, we could find out the fact that the therapy combined preserve treatment and hamstring stretching not only produced increasing Lumbar Flexion Angle but also was more effective on reducing pain of the patients according to it than the conventional or preserve therapy.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of motion-based game exercise program and stretching exercise program on static and dynamic standing balance in elderly women. Methods : Subjects participated in the exercise program was 40 eldery women took part in this study. The average age of the elderly was 70.60 years. All subjects could walk without an assistive device. All subjects were participated in this study during 4 weeks(3 days per week, 30min/day). All participants were assessed on berg balance scale(BBS), functional reach test(FRT), timed up&go test(TUG). Results : The data were analyzed using paired t-test. After 4 weeks exercise training, the result of this study were as follows: The BBS of the elderly was significant difference between test-retest(p<0.05). The TUG of the elderly were significant difference between test-retest(p<0.05). The Motion-Based game from FRT of the was more significant difference than stretching exercise program(p<0.05). we also found significant differences for both groups FRT scores, and changes in mean BBS, TUG scores, but BBS, TUG were not significant. Conclusion : We findings suggest that elderly women person could improve their standing balance through Motion-Based game exercise program, and stretching exercise program.

  • Physical activity has been effective in enhancing quality of life and physical fitness of older adults over relatively short periods of time. However, little is known about the Yoga-based exercise program on physiological changes and physical fitness with psychological variables in elderly women. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of Yoga- based exercise program on physiological, psychological factors and physical fitness in elderly women. Forty-four elders were recruited from the public health center. They were divided into exercise training group(n=22) and control group(n=22). The training group participating in 10 weeks of Yoga-based exercise program. Data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, the chi-square test, Fisher's Extract test, and ANCOVA to evaluate body fat, spine ROM, blood pressure, cholesterol, depression, life satisfaction, ADL and physical fitness. There was a significant improvement in blood pressure, total cholesterol, precent of body fat, physiological function, depression, life satisfaction, ADL and physical fitness in the exercise training group than that of the control group. From the results, Yoga-based interventions designed to improve various variables were equally acceptable to elderly women.

  • Objective : This study aimed to identify the experiences and practices of occupational therapists in mental health and provide interventions for improving body function in individuals with mental illness. Methods : Data were collected from mental health therapists between November 7 and November 14, 2022. A survey was distributed via email and 46 responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics and correlations. Results : The majority were female (58.7%), aged 20-30 years (84.8%), working in mental health centers (41.3%), and undergoing mental health occupational therapy training (91.3%). They had 1-3 years of mental health experience (65.2%) and were commonly involved in programs (71.1%), case management (62.2%), and administration (57.8%). Interventions for physical functioning were common (73.9%), including group interventions (41.2%), such as stretching, aerobic exercise, and walk training, and individual interventions (38.1%), such as walking, stretching, and aerobic exercise. Conclusion : Occupational therapists play a crucial role in enabling individuals with mental illness to engage in daily life activities. However, relevant studies in this field are lacking. This study emphasizes the importance of mental health occupational therapy and the need for evidence-based services for physical function improvement interventions to provide more effective treatments for mental illnesses.
