  • This paper was conducted on analytical solution using superposition and FEM analysis in the free vibration analysis of rectangular plates under uniform thermal loadings. Materials of three rectangular plates were aluminum, steel and stainless-steel respectively. Applied temperature conditions were from room temperature to $300^{\circ}C$ and boundary condition was free-free condition. Fully symmetric mode(FSM), fully antisymmetric mode(FASM) and symmetric-antisymmetric mode(SAM) were analyzed.

  • This study aimed to address the limitations of traditional plasma nitriding methods by implementing a short-term plasma oxy-nitriding treatment on the surface of AISI 420 martensitic stainless steel. This treatment involved the sequential formation of nitride and oxide layers, to enhance surface hardness and corrosion resistance, respectively. The process resulted in the formation of a 20 ㎛-thick nitride layer and a 3 ㎛-thick oxide layer on the steel surface. Initially, the hardness increased by 2.2 times after nitriding, followed by a subsequent decrease of approximately 31 % after oxidation. While the nitriding process reduced corrosion resistance, the subsequent oxidation process led to the formation of a passive oxide film, effectively resolving this issue. The pitting corrosion of the oxide passive film started at 82.6 mVssc, providing better corrosion resistance characteristics than the nitride layer. Consequently, the trade-off between surface hardness and corrosion resistance in plasma oxy-nitrided AISI 420 martensitic stainless steel is anticipated to be recognized as an innovative and comprehensive surface treatment process for biomedical components.

  • The characteristics of the stress corrosion cracking of SUS 304 stainless steel weldments were studied with the speciments of the constant displacement type under the environment of 42% MgC $l_{2}$ boiled solution (143.+.-.2.deg.C). The susceptibility of initiation and propagation of the stress corrosion crack was quantitatively inspected in the weld metal, heat affected zone and heat affected zone with including the reinforcement shape, respectively. Also, those susceptibility were discussed in connection with the change of mechanical and microstructural characteristics caused by heating cycle of welding. Main results obtained are as follows: (1)Stress corrosion cracking is easiest to initiate and propagate in the heat affected zone of weldment. (2)The susceptibility of stress corrosion cracking of the weldment is largely improved by eliminating the reinforcement part of the weld bead. (3)The dominant factor of the cracking susceptibility of the heat affected zone appeared to be the phenomenon of softening and sensitizing caused by welding heat cycle. (4)Under the low loading conditions, the behavior of stress corrosion cracking of the SUS 304 steel weldment is largely influenced by the pitting phenomenon in the front region of the main crack.

  • This paper was conducted on experimental analysis in the free vibration analysis of rectangular plates under uniform thermal loading. Materials of three rectangular plates were aluminum, steel and stainless-steel respectively. The dimension of rectangular plates was 0.1 $\times$ 0.1 $\times$ 0.002 m. Infrared quartz lamps were used for thermal loading. The PCS(Power Control System) electric control system was applied for control and scanning vibrometer (Poly Tech) was used for acquisition of frequency response function. Applied temperature was increased from room temperature to $300^{\circ}C$ by $50^{\circ}C$. Boundary condition was free-free condition using bungee cord. Front face of rectangular plate was heated uniformly.
