The Formation of Social Capital and Partnerships for Downtown Revitalization (도심 재활성화를 위한 사회자본 및 파트너십 형성)

  • Recently, attention has been drawn to the issue of local community revitalization. In the U.S., CDC(Community Development Corporation) has become a main vehicle for revitalizing dilapidated inner-city communities. Using the case of Philadelphia in the U.S., this paper investigates the way in which local community revitalization or downtown revitalization can be successfully achieved through the formation of social capital and public-private partnership. Futhermore, exploring the cases of West Philadelphia CDC and University City, this paper seeks to provide insight into the dynamics of successful community development. In order to examine the dynamics, this paper focuses on local governance in terms of both the reciprocal partnerships and the close networking among participating agents. The implications of the case studies of this research for the Korean context would be that the bottom-up approach starting from the local-scale community revitalization and local governance is very crucial and indispensable for the sustainable regional or national development.

Influence of Ultrasonic Treatment and Nano-Clay content on the Properties of Nano-Clay/Polyurethane Foam (초음파 처리와 나노클레이 농도가 나노클레이/폴리우레탄 폼의 물성에 미치는 영향)

  • The nano-clay is widely used in polymer-nanocomposites due to the high aspect ratio, heat resistance and nano-scale dimension. In recent researches, the thermal and mechanical properties of polyurethane foam were improved with introducing the nano-clay. In this study, we describe the influence of ultrasonic treatment and content of nano-clay on properties of polyurethane foam. The nano-clay/polyurethane foam were characterized using their recovery time, compressive deflection, cell morphology and tensile test. The ultrasonic treatment was very effective for dispersion of nano-clay. Moreover, we found that introducing over 3 wt% of nano-clay bring the decrease of properties due to the poor dispersion. Expecially, ultrasonically treated 20A/polyurethane foam(1 wt%) showed greatly improved properties, such as homogeneous cell size and good dimension stability. We expect that our results could be applied to insulating materials for construction.

Stereo-video Synchronization for 3D Video Transmission (3차원 비디오 전송을 위한 스테레오비디오 동기화 방법)

  • In this paper, we propose a stereo-video transmission method for reduction of delay and maximization of 3D effect. Conventional multimedia synchronization algorithms were designed to achieve minimum delay and synchronize multiple video and audio streams, however, they could not be effective for 3D video transmission. In this paper, we proposed a synchronization algorithm by considering the minimum error of time difference between streams for 3D effect. The minimum error of time difference for 3D effect was derived based on a 3D subjective quality test. We compute display time of the delivered videos within the allowed time-difference and the video are displayed according to the display time. To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, we implemented a real-time video communication system and subjective quality test has been conducted with the proposed system. We found that video quality displayed by the proposed system. We found that video quality displayed by the proposed algorithm ranks 'good' and 'excellent' in the DMOS (Differential Mean Opinion Score) scale, based on the MOS (Mean Opinion Score) test.

Development of the RF SAW filters based on PCB substrate (PCB 기판을 이용한 RF용 SAW 필터 개발)

  • Recent RF SAW filters are made using a HTCC package with a CSP(chip scale Package) technology. This paper describes a development of a new $1.4{\times}1.1\;and\;2.0{\times}1.4mm$ RF SAW liters made by PCB substrate instead of HTCC package, and this technology can reduce the cost of materials down to 40%. We have investigated the multi-layered PCB substrate structures and raw materials to find out the optimal flip-bonding condition between the $LiTaO_3$ wafer and PCB substrates. Also the optimal materials and processing conditions of epoxy laminating film were found out through the experiments which can reduce the bending moment caused by the difference of the thermal expansion between the PCB substrate and laminating film. The new PCB SAW filter shows good electrical and reliability performances with respect to the present SAW filters.

  • Power input in stirred vessel is especially important in the design of mixers, as well as the evaluation of mixing processes. A type of baffles in mechanically agitated vessels and power employed are major factors that determine the stirring efficiency in a large scale, multi-step processes. In the present study, power input in the totally baffled agitated vesseles was compared systematically in connection with several previous studies and adequate power input correlation was found to be : $Np_{(pitch)}=({\theta}/90^{\circ})Np_{(90^{\circ})}$ Power number correlation was dependent upon the distance of among the impeller in the agitated vesseles, as follows : $$Np=7.09(n_p)^{0.7}(\frac{b_(double)}{d})(\frac{H}{D})^{0.18}$$, $${n_p}^{0.7}(\frac{b_{(double)}}d)$$<2 $$Np=8.73\{(n_p)^{0.7}(\frac{b_{(double)}}{d})\}^{0.7}(\frac{H}{D})^{0.18}$$, $${n_p}^{0.7}(\frac{b_{(double)}}d)$$>2.

A Microstructural Design and Modeling of Neutron-Irradiated Materials (중성자 조사재의 미세구조 설계와 모델링)

  • A material changes its physical and chemical properties through the interaction with radiation and also the neutrons, which is electronically neutral so that the penetration depth is relatively deeper than that of other radioactive way including alpha or beta ray. Therefore, the radiation damage by neutron irradiation has been intensively investigated for a long time with respect to the safety of nuclear power plants. The damage induced by neutron irradiation begins with the creation of point defects in atomic scale in the unit of picoseconds, and their progress pattern can be characterized by microstructural defects, such as dislocation loops and voids. Their morphological characteristics affect the properties of neutron-irradiated materials, therefore, it is very important to predict the microstructure at a given neutron irradiation condition. This paper briefly reviews the evolution of radiation damage induced by neutron irradiation and introduces a phase-field model that can be widely used in predicting the microstructure evolution of irradiated materials.

Image Data Compression Using Biorthgnal Wavelet Transform and Variable Block Size Edges Extraction (쌍직교 웨이브렛 변환과 가변 블럭 윤곽선 추출에 의한 영상 데이타 압축)

  • This paper proposes a variable block size vector quantization based on a biorthogonal wavelet transform for image compression. An image is first decomposed with the biorthogonal wavelet transform into multiresolution image and the wavelet coefficients of the middle frequency bands are segmented using the quadtree sturcture to extract the perceptually important regions in the middle frequency bands. A sedges of middle frequency bands exist the corresponding position of high frequency bands, the complicated quadtree structure of middle frequency bands is equally applied to the high frequency bands. Therefore the overhaed information of the quadtree codes needed to segment the high frequency bands can be reduced. The segmented subblocks are encoded with the codebook designed at the each scales and directions. The simulation results showed that the proposed methods could reproduce higher quality image with bit rate reduced about 20(%) than of the preceding VQ method and sufficiently reduce the bolck effect and the edge degradation.

Coherent x-ray scattering to study dynamics in thin films (결맞는 X-선 산란을 이용한 박막의 표면 거동 연구)

  • A new method of x-ray photon correlation spectroscopy (XPCS) using coherent x-rays is developed recently for probing the dynamics of surface height fluctuations as a function of lateral length scale. This emerging technique applies the principles of dynamic light scattering in the x-ray regime. The short wavelength and slow time scales characteristic of XPCS extend the phase space accessible to scattering studies beyond some restrictions by light and neutron. In this paper, we demonstrate XPCS to study the dynamics of surface fluctuations in thin supported polymer films. We present experimental verification of the theoretical predictions for the wave vector and temperature dependence of the capillary wave relaxation times for the supported polymer films at melt for the film thicknesses thicker than 4 times of the radius of gyration of polymer. We observed a deviation from the conventional capillary wave predictions in thinner films. The analysis will be discussed in terms of surface tension, viscosity and effective interactions with the substrate.

경사코팅 기술과 이를 이용한 완전화 박막의 제조

  • 경사코팅 기술(Oblique Angle Deposition; OAD)은 입사 증기가 기판에 수직으로 입사하지 않고 90도 보다 작은 각도로 비스듬히 입사하도록 조절하여 코팅하는 물리증착 기술의 하나로 피막의 조직을 다양하게 제어할 수 있는 방법으로 알려져 있다. 초기의 경사 코팅 기술은 경사각을 가진 정지된 기판 상에 코팅하였으나 최근에는 기판의 각도와 회전을 동시에 조절하여 이루어지는 소위 스침각 증착(Glancing Angle Deposition; GLAD) 기술이 개발되어 다양한 형태의 구조를 제어하는 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 특히, 컴퓨터를 이용하여 입사각과 방위각을 정밀 제어함에 의해 나노 스케일의 Zigzag 및 나선형, 기둥형 조직 등 복잡한 형태의 박막을 제조하는 것이 가능하게 되었다. 현재, GLAD 기술과 다양한 형태의 나노 조직을 이용하여 각종 센서는 물론 태양전지와 같은 에너지 소자, 필터와 같은 광학코팅 등에 응용하기 위한 연구가 세계적으로 폭넓게 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 조직의 치밀도 향상을 통한 특성 향상을 위해 Al 및 TiN 박막을 제조함에 있어서 경사코팅 기술을 응용하여 단층 및 다층 피막(각도를 반대로 하여 여러 층을 제조)을 제조하고 그 특성을 비교하였다. Al 박막은 UBM (Un-Balanced Magnetron) 스퍼터링 소스를 이용하여 타겟 표면과 기판 표면이 이루는 각도 즉, 입사빔과 기판이 이루는 각도를 각각 0, 30, 45, 60 및 90도의 각도에서 강판 및 실리콘 웨이퍼 상에 시편을 제조하되 단층 및 다층으로 시편을 제조하고 치밀도 및 내식성과 반사율 및 조도 등의 특성을 비교하였다. 그 결과 경사각으로 코팅한 시편에서 조도 및 반사율이 향상됨은 물론 치밀도 및 내식성이 향상됨을 확인하였다. 특히, 염수분무에 의한 내식성 시험에서 경사 코팅된 시편의 경우 내식성이 현저히 향상되었는데, 이는 경사 코팅 방법이 박막의 치밀도를 향상시켜 나타난 현상으로 판단된다. TiN 박막은 Cathodic Arc 방식을 이용하되 Al 박막과 동일한 방법으로 코팅을 하고 내식성 및 경도 등의 특성을 비교하였다. TiN 박막은 경사각이 커지면서 경도가 낮아지며 특히 다층막의 경우 경도 감소가 현저함을 알 수 있었다. 다만, 45도에서는 다른 경사각에 비해 약간의 경도 상승이 측정되었다. 경사각 코팅에서의 경도 감소는 피막의 경사에 의해 탐침이 미끄러지거나 또는 우선 방위에 의한 경도 증가 효과가 나타나지 않아 생기는 현상으로 판단되었다. Ferroxyl 시험을 이용한 기공도 시험에서는 경사각 코팅의 경우가 기공이 다소 감소함을 확인하였다.

Sterilization of Gochujang Sauce with Continuous Ohmic Hea (연속 옴가열 장치를 이용한 고추장 소스의 살균)

  • In this study, five different Gochujang (a traditional Korean sauce prepared using fermented red pepper paste) sauces were heated at $100^{\circ}C$ for 5 min using a continuous ohmic heating system. Ohmic heating yielded greater reduction in microbial counts (90-95% reduction) than did conventional heating (65-75% reduction). The sterilization effect of the continuous ohmic heater increased with increasing sample flow rate and decreasing Reynolds number inside the pipe. Low-viscosity samples had higher electrical conductivity and were better suited for ohmic heating than were high-viscosity samples. The color and texture were also satisfactorily maintained after ohmic heating. Compared with conventional heating, ohmic heating provided rapid and uniform heating, which is more suitable for aseptic thermal processing of viscous foods.
