Smart Control System for Greenhouse Environment (시설원예용 스마트 환경 제어 시스템)

  • Recently, industrialization and automation for crops has enabled the development of smart farm technology over the world This is due to the need for the automation and convenience of the agricultural system to aging the population and reducing the labor force. In this system, the smart app can control the temperature and humidity that can be conveniently managed by the farmers. It is possible to check the status of the greenhouses in real time in the smartphone and maintain the optimum temperature and humidity, thereby helping to prevent pests and diseases, to grow crops, and to improve the labor force and productivity of farmers and fishermen.

  • Under the influence of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, there are many tries to promote productivity enhancement and competitiveness by adapting smart farm technology that converges ICT technologies in agriculture. This smart farming technology is emerging as a new paradigm for future growth in agriculture. The development of real-time cultivation environment monitoring and automatic control system is needed to implement smart farm. Furthermore, the development of intelligent system that manages cultivation environment using monitoring data of the growth of crops is required. In this paper, a fast and efficient development method for implementing a cloud-based smart farm management system using a highly compatible and scalable web platform is proposed. It was verified that the proposed method using the web platform is effective and stable system implementation through the operation of the actual implementation system.

  • Amid the global population growth and climate change, high-tech smart farm technology that combines agriculture and ICT is actively being researched in Korea to solve sustainable crises such as declining population of agricultural and livestock industries. Existing smart farms are growing mainly on crops with low price competitiveness. Food consumption structures are becoming more sophisticated and diverse, and as agricultural consumption patterns change, the smart farm system also needs to be optimized for growing high-value special crops. To this end, an integrated ICT management system was designed and implemented by establishing a containerized smart farm environment specialized in growing sprout ginseng. Through this, it is possible to implement high-tech agricultural production and lead new future convergence industries through the convergence of ICT, agriculture, and the latest technologies and farming.

A Study on antecedent factors of the Female farmers' Information Literacy Competency using smart devices

  • In this paper, we propose antecedent factors that influence the Information Literacy Competency of female farmers using smart devices. The study was analyzed using the materials from the "Primary Survey of Information Literacy Competency Measurement Index for Female Farmers" by the Rural Development Administration. The target of the survey was 200 women working on the farms. The descriptive, correlation, and multiple regression analyses, t-test, and ANOVA using SPSS 21.0 program were performed. Study results found that among the psychological factors, Self-efficacy and Innovativeness have positive effects on Information Literacy Competency. Among the Sociodemographic factors, the education level, presence of smartpads, and tiem spent on smartphones have positive effects on Information Literacy Competency. Findings of the results contributed to the understanding of the Information Literacy Competency for female farmers, who have lack of infromarion on smrt devices, and suggested the direction of enhancing the level of Information Literacy Competency for female farmers.

  • 백리향(Thymus quinquecostatus)은 꿀풀과의 낙엽반관목으로 국내에서 자생하는 허브 식물 중 하나이다. 백리향은 특유의 좋은 향기 및 항산화, 항염증, 항균, 미백 등의 효능을 가지는 각종 폴리페놀 성분을 함유하고 있어 의약품이나 기능성 식품, 화장품의 천연 소재 원료로 활용되고 있다. 국내에서 백리향은 재배 환경에 맞추어 주로 고산지대의 노지에서 재배되고 있다. 노지 재배는 지역, 시기, 기후 등의 외부환경에 영향을 받아서 백리향의 유효성분, 품질 및 생산성을 안정적으로 유지하기 어렵다는 한계를 가지고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 스마트팜 시스템을 활용하여 백리향의 유효 성분 등을 안정적으로 얻기 위한 생장조건을 탐색하기 위해 4종의 Light Emitting Diode(LED) 광원과 4종의 토양 조성에 따라서 백리향의 생육조건을 수행하였다. LED는 white, purple, RGB1, RGB2를 사용하였으며, 토양은 상토:펄라이트 비율(상토, 5:1, 3:1, 1:1)로 조성하여 백리향 묘목을 이식한 뒤 생장과 개화시기를 분석하였다. 재배환경은 백리향 재배지의 기상 데이터를 참고하여 동일하게 설정하였으며, 총 8주 동안 생육상태를 관찰하였다. 연구 결과 백리향 재배 4주차에 일부 개체에서 봉오리가 올라오며 개화를 시작하였으며, 8주차에는 대부분의 조건에서 개화를 관찰할 수 있었다. 백리향의 지상부 면적을 비교한 결과 가장 우수한 생장을 보이는 조건은 토양은 3(상토):1(펄라이트) 비율로 분석되었다. 따라서 이번 연구 결과를 바탕으로 백리향 재배에 스마트팜 농업 기술을 활용한다면 기존 노지 재배 한계를 보완하여 안정적이고 지속적인 백리향을 생산할 수 있을것으로 기대된다.

Prediction of Greenhouse Strawberry Production Using Machine Learning Algorithm (머신러닝 알고리즘을 이용한 온실 딸기 생산량 예측)

  • Strawberry is a stand-out cultivating fruit in Korea. The optimum production of strawberry is highly dependent on growing environment. Smart farm technology, and automatic monitoring and control system maintain a favorable environment for strawberry growth in greenhouses, as well as play an important role to improve production. Moreover, physiological parameters of strawberry plant and it is surrounding environment may allow to give an idea on production of strawberry. Therefore, this study intends to build a machine learning model to predict strawberry's yield, cultivated in greenhouse. The environmental parameter like as temperature, humidity and CO2 and physiological parameters such as length of leaves, number of flowers and fruits and chlorophyll content of 'Seolhyang' (widely growing strawberry cultivar in Korea) were collected from three strawberry greenhouses located in Sacheon of Gyeongsangnam-do during the period of 2019-2020. A predictive model, Lasso regression was designed and validated through 5-fold cross-validation. The current study found that performance of the Lasso regression model is good to predict the number of flowers and fruits, when the MAPE value are 0.511 and 0.488, respectively during the model validation. Overall, the present study demonstrates that using AI based regression model may be convenient for farms and agricultural companies to predict yield of crops with fewer input attributes.

Design of Cloud-Based Data Analysis System for Culture Medium Management in Smart Greenhouses (스마트온실 배양액 관리를 위한 클라우드 기반 데이터 분석시스템 설계)

  • BACKGROUND: Various culture media have been used for hydroponic cultures of horticultural plants under the smart greenhouses with natural and artificial light types. Management of the culture medium for the control of medium amounts and/or necessary components absorbed by plants during the cultivation period is performed with ICT (Information and Communication Technology) and/or IoT (Internet of Things) in a smart farm system. This study was conducted to develop the cloud-based data analysis system for effective management of culture medium applying to hydroponic culture and plant growth in smart greenhouses. METHODS AND RESULTS: Conventional inorganic Yamazaki and organic media derived from agricultural byproducts such as a immature fruit, leaf, or stem were used for hydroponic culture media. Component changes of the solutions according to the growth stage were monitored and plant growth was observed. Red and green lettuce seedlings (Lactuca sativa L.) which developed 2~3 true leaves were considered as plant materials. The seedlings were hydroponically grown in the smart greenhouse with fluorescent and light-emitting diodes (LEDs) lights of $150{\mu}mol/m^2/s$ light intensity for 35 days. Growth data of the seedlings were classified and stored to develop the relational database in the virtual machine which was generated from an open stack cloud system on the base of growth parameter. Relation of the plant growth and nutrient absorption pattern of 9 inorganic components inside the media during the cultivation period was investigated. The stored data associated with component changes and growth parameters were visualized on the web through the web framework and Node JS. CONCLUSION: Time-series changes of inorganic components in the culture media were observed. The increases of the unfolded leaves or fresh weight of the seedlings were mainly dependent on the macroelements such as a $NO_3-N$, and affected by the different inorganic and organic media. Though the data analysis system was developed, actual measurement data were offered by using the user smart device, and analysis and comparison of the data were visualized graphically in time series based on the cloud database. Agricultural management in data visualization and/or plant growth can be implemented by the data analysis system under whole agricultural sites regardless of various culture environmental changes.
