헬륨냉동계통의 헬륨가스 순도 제어 운전

  • 헬륨냉동계통은 연구용 원자로인 하나로에서 냉중성자를 생산할 수 있도록 설치된 수조내기기 내의 감속재인 수소가 정상적으로 열 사이펀을 유지하기 위한 주요 계통이다. 헬륨냉동계통은 헬륨가스를 압축하는 헬륨 압축부분과 헬륨가스를 팽창시켜 저온을 생성시키는 헬륨 팽창부분으로 나누어진다. 헬륨 압축부분은 두 개의 스크류가 맞물려 회전하면서 약 1.05 bar(a)의 헬륨가스를 최대 13 bar(a)까지 압축시키는 압축기가 있으며, 헬륨 팽창부분인 냉동박스의 팽창 터빈은 self-acting gas bearing에 의해 구동되며, 저온모드 운전 시작시 헬륨 압축부분에서 일부의 가스는 팽창 터빈 축(shaft)으로 유입되어 회전속도가 서서히 증가하면서 고속으로 회전하여 극저온의 헬륨가스(14~18 K)를 생성하는 주요 기기이다. 헬륨을 팽창하는 부분인 냉동박스 내로 헬륨 압축가스를 유입하기 전에 압축된 헬륨가스 내 불순물의 순도를 분석하여 냉동박스의 주요 부품인 팽창터빈의 운전에 영향을 미치지 않는 것이 가장 중요하다. 따라서 헬륨 저압측에 헬륨가스 내 불순물 즉, 수소($H_2$), 수분($H_2O$), 질소($N_2$), 탄화수소류(CxHy) 및 오일(Oilaerosol) 등의 함량을 분석하기위해 가스 분석기가 설치되어 있으며, 냉동박스 내로 유입되기 전에 헬륨압축에서 순환되는 가스 내 불순물인 수분, 질소, 탄화수소류 및 오일은 10 vpm 이하이어야 하며, 수소 함량은 0.1 % 이내이어야 한다. 헬륨 압축부분에서 순환되는 가스의 불순물이 요구 조건에 만족하도록 헬륨 고압측과 헬륨 저압측에 cryogenic adsorber를 설치하여 가스 내 불순물을 제거하는 가스순도제어 작업을 수행해야 한다. cryogenic adsorber를 사용하기 위해서는 장치 내의 불순 가스를 공정진공도(1.33 X $10^{-3}$ mbar) 이하로 진공배기하는 작업이 매우 중요하다. 이는 계통의 헬륨가스가 오염되지 않도록 하는 것으로 cryogenic adsorber 내에는 액체질소를 충전하여 액체질소 온도에 노출된 활성탄층을 헬륨가스가 흐르면서 수분, 질소, 탄화수소류 및 오일 등이 제거된다. 이 논문에서는 헬륨냉동계통의 가스 순도 제어 작업을 통해 헬륨가스의 순도가 요구조건 이하로 만족하며, 팽창 터빈의 운전에 영향을 미치지 않음을 기술하고자 한다.

Sea Level Valiability and Eddy in the South Indian Ocean by Multi-satellite Data (Topex/Poseidon, ERS1) (복합위성자료(Topex/Poseidon, ERS1)를 이용한 남인도양의 해수면 변화와 와동류 연구)

  • Sea level variability and eddy in the Amsterdam-Crozet-Kerguelen region of the South Indian Ocean were studied during 1 year (October 15, 1992~October 15, 1993) using multi-satellite data (Topex/Poseidon, ERS1) produced by signal treatment. We found that sea level variabilities (>10cm) generally exist along the Antarctic Circumpolar Current in the area of 35$^{\circ}$~46$^{\circ}$S and strong sea level variabilities (20~30cm) were especially occurred from the effects of eddy due to bottom topography in two small area: 49$^{\circ}$~57$^{\circ}$E and 38$^{\circ}$~42$^{\circ}$S, and 58$^{\circ}$~64$^{\circ}$E and 42$^{\circ}$~44$^{\circ}$S.

  • This study investigated the spatial and temporal water circulation characteristics of Paldang Reservoir by continuous hydraulic and water temperature survey. Due to differences in water temperature and discharge pattern of Ipo Weir and Cheongpyeong Dam, the flow and temperature fluctuations were different in sections of Namhan River and Bukhan River in Paldang Reservoir. At the stratification period, the water temperature of the discharge of Ipo Weir was higher than that of the Cheongpyeong Dam. Therefore, in the surface layer of the downstream of Bukhan River, relatively high temperature water is located and back water phenomenon occurred, and convergence zone is formed. In the downstream section of Namhan River, low-temperature water was distributed in the middle and lower layers, and the upstream flow appeared to be difficult to mix with the surface layer.

  • In the present study, a three dimensional hydrodynamic characteristics around the fully submerged dual breakwaters with a sand beach has been investigated numerically using a 3-D numerical scheme, which can determine the eddy viscosity with LES turbulence model and is able to consider wave-structure-seabed interaction in 3-dimensional wave field (LES-WASS-3D), recently developed by Hur and Lee (2007). Based on the numerical experiments, strong vortices can be generated fore and aft edges of the structures, and propagate lee sides. Thus relatively large circulation flows are occurred around submerged breakwaters. The 3-D flow hydrodynamic characteristics have been examined by mean flows and mean vortices for various x-y, x-z sections and y-z layers. Wave height distribution and wave set-up around and over submerged breakwaters, and breaking point migration toward shore side is discussed in detail.

  • The use of TiO2 photocatalyst in the production of concrete blocks for the purpose of nitrogen oxide reduction is an issue of controversy due to the conflicting evidence on its effectiveness. Efforts have been made to reduce the level of nitrogen oxides in the environment by using of titanium dioxide (TiO2). This study examined the effect of incorporating activated carbon into concrete blocks on the reduction of nitrogen oxides released into the atmosphere and the durability of the blocks. The efficiency of photocatalyst was enhanced through the addition of a surrounding conductive substance. The addition of activated carbon resulted in a significant increase in the electrical conductivity of photocatalytic blocks and improved durability. The cement mixture using 5 % TiO2 and 15 % activated carbon exhibited the optimal mixing ratio for the purpose of nitrogen oxide removal. The effect of the addition of conductive carbon to the photocatalytic blocks was discussed with the results of conductivity, flexural and comprssive strength and nitrogen oxide removal test. The relationship between the addition of conductive carbon to the photocatalytic blocks and its resulting effects have been studied by several tests, including conductivity, flexural and compressive strength, and nitrogen oxide removal.

Numerical Simulation of Local Atmospheric Circulations in the Valley of Gwangneung KoFlux Sites (광릉 KoFlux 관측지 계곡에서의 국지순환 수치모의)

  • A 90-m horizontal-resolution numerical model was configured to study the micrometeorological features of local winds in the valley of Gwangneung KoFlux (Korea Flux network) Sites (GDK: Gwangneung Deciduous forest site in Korea, GCK: Gwangneung Coniferous forest site in Korea) during summer days. The U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) data were employed for high-resolution model terrain height. Model performance was evaluated by comparing observed and simulated near-surface temperature and winds. Detailed qualitative analysis of the model-simulated wind field was carried out for two selected cases which are a clear day (Case I) and a cloudy day (Case II). Observed winds exhibited that GDK and GCK, as well as Case I and Case II, had differences in timing, duration and strength of daytime and nighttime wind direction and speeds. The model simulation results strongly supported the existence of the drainage flow in the valley of the KoFlux tower sites. Overall, the simulated model fields realistically presented the diurnal cycle of local winds in and around the valley, including the morning drainage-upslope transition and the evening reversal of upslope wind. Also, they indicated the complexity of local winds interactions by presenting that daytime westerly winds in the valley were not always pure mountain winds and were often coupled with larger-scale wind systems, such as synoptic-scale winds or mesoscale sea breezes blowing from the west coast of the peninsula.

Study on the Correlation between Air Emission Gas and Alternative Fuels Used in Cement Sintering Process (시멘트 소성공정에 사용된 대체연료와 대기배출가스간 상관관계 연구)

  • In this study, we tried to verify the correlation of the amount of combustible industrial by-products, household waste used as fuels on cement sintering process and the amount of NOx, and CO, harmful components in the exhaust gas. The analysis uses coal as natural fuel, soft plastics (plastics with properties that tend to be scattered by wind, such as vinyls), hard plastics (plastics with properties that are not scattered by wind, such as PETs, wate rubbers), and reclaimed oils as alternative fuels. Utilizing the response surface analysis (RSM) technique using the process data of 2019, such as the fuel input and combustion temperature of a domestic A cement manufacturer's sintering facilities as independent variables, and the NOx, and CO emissions to the stack as dependent variables. Correlation was analyzed. As a result, it was confirmed that the impact on the emission material differs for each waste. In particular, it was analyzed that the hard plastics increase the CO emission but have an excellent effect of reducing NOx.

A Case Study on the Estimation of the Resource Recovery Potentials by Landfill Mining (매립지 정비에 의한 순환이용 가능량 산정 사례 연구)

  • As many local governments have faced increasing conflicts on landfill use and the time of end use, it is difficult to provide an alternative landfill or conclude a consensus of lifespan extension for the existing landfill site. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to contribute improving of the landfill capacity by calculating the resource recovery potentials of landfilled waste previously and in the future by landfill mining. For this, rate of volume increase, weight ratio, and apparent density were adopted as major parameters and their values were calculated through previous cases. The rate of volume increase was calculated to 1.42 by averaging previous cases of three areas. The average weight ratio of soil matter was 45.6% by calculating for the three areas. For the combustible waste and incombustible waste, statistical data can be used. The apparent densities were divided by combustible waste, incombustible waste, and soil matter using an average of two areas value, i.e., $0.35ton/m^3$, $1.40ton/m^3$ and $1.58ton/m^3$. We analyzed the resource recovery potential of Cheongju landfill by using the estimated parameters. The additional landfill capacity was 45% of the existing landfill capacity by recovering landfilled waste by landfill mining. In addition, it is analyzed that the lifespan is extended to 20 years, if the combustible waste of new inputting waste is sorted and combusted for energy recovery and incineration ash, incombustible waste, and soil matter are only reclaimed into the existing Cheongju landfill. It is expected that the methodology and parameters of this study will be used as basic data when resource recovery potential is analyzed for another case study of landfill mining.

Study on Variation of Local Atmospheric Circulation Due to Road Development in Mountain Area (산악지역 도로건설에 따른 국지 대기순환의 변화에 관한 연구)

  • In order to clarify the efficiency of ground level change in Ice-valley on atmospheric circulation, numerical experiment was carried out. The circulations over the slope in North and South are different due to the topography and short wave radiation in Ice-valley. Therefore the circulations in both side are asymmetric and the asymmetric circulations are kept on at 1800 LST. A small difference of the atmospheric circulations formation is made due to the road construction at night. The reason may be the weakness of sensible heat flux from the road and other factors except that the sensible heat is not a principal factor in road construction. The construction of road is associated with growing of sensible heat from the road surface. For this reason, in case of daytime, ascending wind in north slope is more stronger with the road than that without road. The maximum wind speed becomes 4.67 m/s after road construction. And the position of the road is also an important factor in estimation of mesoscale circulation in mountainous area.

  • The Dial Algorithm, based on single link based calculation, is unable to reflect cyclic paths arising in actual urban transportation networks. At the same time, redefining the paths more efficiently can, by strict standards, lead to irrational results stemming from reduction in the size of the network to be analyzed. To solve these two problems of the Dial algorithm, the research herein proposes a vine network method applied to a link based Dial Algorithm, in which the original three step alogrithm is modified into a vine network-based three step process. Also, an analysis of two case study networks show feasible replication of the predicted cyclic path, unrealistic flow, and unsteady transit, as well as alleviation of the problem of irrational path allocation.
