A Study of Sunam Oh Jae-soon's Seonggongdo (순암(醇庵) 오재순(吳載純) 성공도(聖功圖) 고석(考釋))

  • This article looks at the thought of Oh Jae-soon's seonggong sasangin Jeongjo period while focusing on his Seonggongdo and Seonggong doseol. his thought will be explained as seen below. First, he gave more emphasis on seonggong, not seonghak, which is a concept abbreviated from Seonginjihak.He actually gave more importance to practice than to scholarly work. Therefore, the essential concepts provided in his work are most related with drills and practices. Second, he focuses on dotong(characters). Looking at Yosunwoosangjeonsimhakdo, he presents dotong ((Yo-Sun-Woo)-Kongtzu-Chengtsu-Jasa-Mengtsu-Chungtzu), while presenting himself to such a scholarly inheritance. Third, he intended to provide his interpretation based on his consistent thought. He actually classified and analyzed all the characters and classics based on the principles of knowledge, practice, self-esteem, bitter words, diligence. In addition, all things are classified with these five items as shown above. Fourth, he analyzed classics and presented his ideas in simple terms and concepts. Fifth, he deals with the seven Chinese Classics and particularly he emphasizes Shizing and Shujing. He did not mention Chunqiu (the Spring and Autumn Annals) and Liji (The classic of Rites),both of which he did not consider as adequate. Sixth, Sunam's thought was inherited to Ganjae Jeonwoo's soonamhakgyeol.

A Case of Soft Tissue Metastasis in Contralateral Submandibular Space by Regional Recurrence of Lower Lip Cancer (하구순암의 구역 재발로 반대편 악하 공간에 발생한 연조직 전이 1예)

  • The most common cause of treatment failure in oral cavity cancer is when it is found to have local recurrence, usually occurring in the ipsilateral cervical lymph node. On the contrary, it is extremely rare to find local recurrence in soft tissue metastasis (STM) in the contralateral neck. Furthermore, lung cancer and malignant lymphoma are most commonly confined to their primary sites. The poor general condition increases the likelihood of STM, which indicates bad prognosis. A 72-year-old man with a hard and fixed mass on the right submandibular space visited our clinic. He had received a wide excision with local flapreconstruction for squamous cell carcinoma in the left corner of lower lip 18 months ago. We performed the wide excision with bilateral selective neck dissection (I-III), and he was finally diagnosed as STM from contralateral lip cancer. We report this unique and rare disease entity with a literature review.

A Study of a Decay Parameter for the Dark Adaptation Function on the retina (망막에서 암순응 함수의 Decay parameter 연구)

  • The adaptation for a right source on the retina consists of the light-dark adaptation's two curves for a time by the rod-cone receptor. We obtained the adaptation for a time to measure the threshold intensities, it was two decay curves by the center of a rod-cone break. It could be represented the dark adaptation by a exponential decay function consisting of $T_{min}$, $a_r$, $a_c$, $T_{0(r)}$, $T_{0(c)}$, $t_b$, $t_c$'s parameters. The curves of a $t_b$ below and a $t_b$ above showed the adaptation sensitivity of the cone and the rod. The exponential decay function was well applied to the dark adaptation in difference retinal positions, in contrally fixated fields, in luminous, as age etc. It could be used the decay parameter as the index because of representing the properties of the dark adaptation's function.

Ahn Jeong-Bok's idea of country village community (18세기 향촌사회와 유교공동체 - 순암 안정복을 중심으로 -)

  • A well-known historian, Ahn Jeong-Bok(Sun-Am, 1712~1791) was an expert on the country village community. He was a scholar of the "Nam-In" group, who was excluded from the corridors of power in those days. He kept on the move in various parts of country villages from his childhood. After settling down in Deok-Gok, Kwang-Ju, he stayed in the place devoting himself to the self-culture and the literary works. By his surrounding of environment, he had an academic interest in a concrete science rather than metaphysics and country villages rather than the central city. He considered the country villages as the link holding between a family and a country and had the conception of a confucianist community based on country villages, emphasizing the practice of confucianist virtues in everyday life. First of all, his confucianist community was the community based on country villages. He thought that the enlightenment was a matter of great importance for solving problems in country villages. As a solution to those problems, he suggested Hyang-Yak, the self-governed regulations of country villages. In his own village he made the self-governed rules Dong-Yak. When he was a provincial governer of Mok-Cheon, he put Hyang-Yak, the self-governed regulations of country villages in operation. It aimed for a kind of gentry-centric country village community. But Hyang-Yak was the regulations based on the agreement with each other, stressed the regard on the popular mind and the setting the pace of the gentry, and aimed for the harmony and order in a community through the practice of moral virtues in daily life. On the other hand, he had a conception of a country village's academic community. He thought of the development of educational intuitions as a pressing need of the enlightenment of country village. With young people he read confucianist books with comments in a village school, Seo-Jae. In his seventies, he made and put the self-regulations for academic community, Hak-Yak, in operations. It is considered that Hak-Yak was an example of his idea of academic community and his point of view on learning, which emphasized on the coincidence with reading and practice.

A Study on Bangsan Heo hun's(許薰) Essays in Classical Chinese (방산(舫山) 허훈(許薰)의 한문산문(漢文散文) 연구(硏究))

  • The present study examines Bangsanjib(舫山集, Collected Works of Bangsan) written by Heo Hun (許薰, pen name: Bangsan), a scholar of the late Joseon Dynasty. Chapter 2 reviews the author's life and his academic orientations against the backdrop of his times. Chapter 3 goes on to select some of his essays and analyze their contents and characteristics. In Chapter 2, Bangsan is portrayed as a hermit scholar who devoted his entire life to his scholarly achievements. Although he tried to develop his academic theories based on both the Geungi and Yeongnam Schools of Neo-Confucianism, the scholar was more inclined to the Geungi School. Chapter 3 analyzes Bangsan's essays in Classical Chinese with a focus on two themes: The first is the author's loyalty to the academic tradition of the Geungi School, which is demonstrated by his positivistic and pragmatic approach to philosophical issues. The second is his awareness of self-reliant national defense as is revealed by his assertion that Joseon should have knowledge, and provide education, on new weapons in order to be better equipped with such military equipment and become a powerful nation.
