  • This paper tries to analyze how effective the problem posing method through Brainwriting can be on mathematical problem solving and creativity as a way to seek a new pedagogy to enhance student problem solving levels and creativity in mathematics. The findings of the study can be summarized as follows: First, the Brainwriting problem posing method improved students' abilities to alter problems, suggest new problems from multi-perspectives, and solve them. All procedures for such were obtained through discussions among group members. Second, the Brainwriting problem posing method resulted in positive effects on fluency and originality among components of creativity, but not on flexibility. That is, studying mathematics with this method helped students develop creativity levels not in terms of flexibility but of fluency and originality. Third, the interest rate in mathematics learning rose for those who studied mathematics by adopting the Brainwriting problem posing method. Finally, this study caused the Brainwriting problem posing method to be more deeply understood and appreciated from a new perspective.

  • In this paper, we study the methods of improving an ability of a creative solving mathematical problem belonging to an educational system which every province office of education has adopted for the mathematically talented students. Especially, we give an attention on a preferential reaction in teaching styles according to student's LQ., the relationship between student's LQ. and an ability of creative solving mathematical problems, and seeking for an appropriative teaching methods of the improvement ability of a creative solving problem. As results, we have the followings; 1. The group having excellent students who have a higher intelligential ability prefers inquiry learning which is composed of several sub-groups to a teacher-centered instruction. 2. The correlation coefficient between student's LQ. and an ability creative solving of mathematical is not high. 3. Although the contents and the model of thematic inquiry learning don't have a great influence on the divergent thinking (ex. fluency, flexibility, originality), they affect greatly the convergent thinking - a creative mathematical - problem solving ability. Accordingly, our results show that we should use a variety of mathematical teaching materials apart from our regular textbooks used in schools to improve a creative mathematical problem solving ability in the process of thematic inquiry learning. Also we can see that an inquiry learning which stimulates student's participation and discussion can be a desirable model in the thematic mathematical classroom activities.

  • In this study, we want to being helpful to improvement of ability to solve mathematical problem, that is grafted on the subjects being able to occur in real life, of students in teaching materials and results studied and developed in the university. For increasing ability to solve ingenious problem and growing in the learning ability of oneself leading of students. The goal of this study is to make possible open research as a result of that students look for problem around real life by one's own efforts and take interest in them through learning mathematics of parents of students, they are the most important fact of educational environment in the mathematics education - earlier than students. In particular, the goal of this study is that students have an positive attitude of mind for mathematics and maximize ability of practical application by the analytic thinking learned through experience of their parents, they survey, analyze and solve problems taken from real life in the method transmitting one's knowledge to others. This study is divided into 2 categories: education of students and education of their parents. By these, we want to disseminate advanced knowledge and theory through students improve the powers of thought, logic and inference, develop ability to solve mathematical problem, stir up motivation of learning and learn knowledge of mathematics become familiar with real life.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of convergent approach of mathematics education on students' problem-solving ability and self-efficacy by designing and applying mathematics curriculum based on STEAM. The results are as follows. First, the test results between the two groups did not show any statistically significant difference in terms of problem solving ability, but the experimental group showed a higher average score than the comparative group. Compared with the standard deviation of the experimental group, It can be seen that the level of difference between students is great. This suggests that STEAM-based mathematics lessons have a positive effect on the problem solving ability of low-level students. Second, the results of the self-efficacy t-test of STEAM-based mathematics class showed statistically significant results at a 5% significance level. In the sub-domain, the preference for the difficulty of the mathematics task, except math self-confidence and the math self-regulation efficacy, were statistically significant at a 5% significance level. This study shows that STEAM-based mathematics classes have a positive effect on the students' positive aspects. Through the STEAM program, students learn that mathematics is connected with other fields, and it provides an opportunity to explore on their own, and they more became interested, motivated, and achievement. Also, through the results of the STEAM-based mathematics class, it can be seen that the expressive power and self-confidence are increased by using the non-formal representation outside of the existing formal representation center. The result of this study can be summarized as follows: A STEAM-based mathematics class has a positive effect on problem solving ability and self-efficacy. Therefore, it is interpreted that the application of the STEAM program focusing on mathematics accounts for education effectives.

  • The development of mathematical problem solving ability and the making(transforming) mathematical problems are consistently emphasized in the mathematics curriculum. However, research on the problem making methods or the analysis of the characteristics of problem making methods itself is not yet active in mathematics education in Korea. In this study, we concretize the method of deductive problem making(DPM) in a different direction from the what-if-not method proposed by Brown & Walter, and present the characteristics and phases of this method. Since in DPM the components of the problem solving process of the initial problem are changed and problems are made by going backwards from the phases of problem solving procedure, so the problem solving process precedes the formulating problem. The DPM is related to the verifying and expanding the results of problem solving in the reflection phase of problem solving. And when a teacher wants to transform or expand an initial problem for practice problems or tests, etc., DPM can be used.

  • A lot of studies in and outside the country says that robots can become an effective tool in developing creativity, problem solving skills and positive learning motivation in the knowledge and information era. This study aims to verify the educational effect of robots in mathematics education by applying robots to mathematics education as a learning tool in an effort to improve the teaching/learning environment. For this study, the mathematics curriculum of elementary school and robot programming were analyzed and then a robot integrated mathematics program was developed. The developed program was applied to the mathematics education of an elementary school year 5 over 16 times. The result of the study showed that the experimental group which used the robot integrated program has better learning attitude and problem solving skills than the group which used the traditional method. The result also showed that the mathematics activities that used robot programming contributed to developing problem solving skills and provided positive mathematics learning experience.

  • The Ministry of Education (2015) announced the "2015 Revised Curriculum for Elementary and Secondary Schools" and announced that SW (Software) training for elementary and junior high school students to develop Computational Thinking will be gradually introduced from 2018. In addition, 'problem solving' and 'programming' have become important areas. Furthermore, the ability to analyze and utilize big data is becoming more emphasized. We developed and applied the statistical - Python programming convergence curriculum based on the idea that convergence education combining information and mathematics, programming and statistical literacy is needed according to current trends. Before and after the experiment, problem solving ability test and programming / mathematical interest test were conducted and compared with the corresponding sample t-test. According to the analysis results, there were significant differences in the pre- and post-test on problem solving ability, programming interest and mathematical interest at the significance level of 0.05.

  • This study investigated children's realistic response on problematic word problems focused on number operations. Even though word problems and problem solving should be considered in terms of realistic context, results indicates that children's responses didn't show realistic consideration in solving problems. Also, children showed their tendency of mindless or mechanical operation in solving problems and modeling problems
