  • Hollow fiber membrane G-L contactors are widely used to remove $SO_2$ emitted from industrial facilities. In this work, the mathematical modeling and computer simulation for hollow membrane G-L contactors is carried out to analyze $SO_2$ absorption behavior in hollow fiber membranes. The model is solved with the finite element method using a commercial software. Investigated is the dependency of $SO_2$ removal efficiency and mass transfer characteristics on gas velocities, membrane mass transfer coefficients and physical properties of contactors. The membrane mass transfer coefficients are estimated by fitting the experimental data with the simulated $SO_2$ removal efficiencies. In addition, a design methodology of membrane contactors is suggested.

  • A simple numerical modelling technique is proposed for estimating the shear stress distribution in beams of framed tube structures with multiple internal tubes. The structures arc analysed using a continuum approach in which each tube is individually modelled by a tube beam that accounts for the flexural and shear deformations, as well as the shear lag effects. The numerical analysis of shear stress is based on the mathematical analogy in conjunction with the elastic theory By simplifying assumptions regarding the form of strain distributions in external and internal tubes, the shear stress distributions are expressed in terms of a series of lineal functions of the second moments of area of the structures and the corresponding geometric and material properties, as well as the applied loads. Previous studies for axial stresses and shear lag phenomenon are further developed lot the numerical analysis of shear stresses in the tubes. The simplicity and accuracy of the proposed method are demonstrated through the solutions of throe numerical examples.

  • The important problems from the point of view of preventing global warming are to save the power consumption of automotive air-conditioning systems and reduce the refrigerant amount filled. To achieve such requirements, integral receiver/dryer (R/D) condensers were developed recently. Typical integral R/D condensers have extra headers that play the role of R/D. Except an extra header and somewhat complex tube array resulting from the extra header, the most integral R/D condensers have almost the same specification that tube has multi channels, fin has louvers, flow in tube is parallel, etc. When integral condensers are applied, it is known that the refrigerating effect increases, resulting from the increase of subcooling degree in condenser, and the refrigerant amount used saves. In spite of several merits, integral condensers have not been applied a lot. That is why there is an uncertainty in performance, using integral condensers. The objective of this study is to theoretically optimize the tube array in an integral R/D condenser that is really being applied to some vehicles. The tube array has a great effect on the performance of the integral condenser as well as common ones. Through computer simulation, we could see that the tube array, 14-6-3-5-3-4, in the same condenser was the best, comparing heat release rate, pressure drop, etc. to the real array, 17-5-3-3-2-5. It should be noted that the optimization is based on the condenser performance only.

  • Compartment models, a type of mathematical model, have been widely applied to characterize the changes in a dynamic system with sequential events or processes, such as the spread of an epidemic disease. A compartment model comprises compartments, and the relations between compartments are depicted as boxes and arrows. This principle is similar to that of the system dynamics (SD) approach to constructing a simulation model with stocks and flows. In addition, both models are structured using differential equations. With this mutual and translatable principle, this study, in terms of SD, translates a reference SEIR model, which was developed in a recent study to characterize the transmission of the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) in South Korea. Compared to the replicated result of the reference SEIR model (Model 1), the translated SEIR model (Model 2) demonstrates the same simulation result (error=0). The results of this study provide insight into the application of SD relative to constructing an epidemic compartment model using schematization and differential equations. The translated SD artifact can be used as a reference model for other epidemic diseases.

  • WSN(Wireless Sensor Network) performs to detect and collect environmental information for one purpose. As examples, WSN is applicable for home network, patient management of a hospital, logistics management, status detection during the war and so on. The WSN is composed of a sink node and several sensor nodes and has a constraint in an aspect of energy consumption caused by limited battery resource. So many required mechanisms in WSN should consider the remained energy condition. A routing mechanism is requested to deliver the collected information to a sink considering energy efficiency in WSN. There have been many researches to establish (a) route(s) for data delivery to the sink. In this paper, we propose establishment of efficient routes. We proposed a uniform routing mechanism together with considering energy efficiency. For the routing, we define energy probability as routing metrics information and Performs suppression of exchange of control messages. In addition, we derive to uniformly consume the energy of the sensor node when establishing the routes. Also, we evaluate and analyze the energy efficiency for proposed mechanisms through NS-2 simulator.

  • The co-channel interference is a primary factor of loss in multimedia mobile communications. In this paper, we present a performance of the frequency reuse partitioning to refrain the co-channel interference and maximize system performance. First, we analyze the co-channel interference using the frequency reuse partitioning through the statistical modeling. From this results, we decide on the frequency reuse partitioning for the system throughput which is maximized. Finally, analysis and simulation results show that the frequency reuse partitioning based cellular system can mitigate the co-channel interference and maximize the system throughput. The experimental results show that system throughput is maximized from 0.7 to 0.8 according to traffic road. We can maximize the system throughput using the results with cellular system design parameter.

  • In MMORPGs(Massively Multi-player Online Role-Playing Games) a large number of players actively interact with one another in a virtual world. Therefore MMORGs must be able to quickly process real-time access requests and process requests from numerous gaming users. A key challenge is that the workload of the game server increases as the number of gaming users increases. To address this workload problem, many developers apply with distributed server architectures which use dynamic map partitioning and load balancing according to the server function. Therefore most MMORPG servers partition a virtual world into zones and each zone runs on multiple game servers. These methods cause of players frequently move between game servers, which imposes high overhead for data updates. In this paper, we propose a new architecture that apply with an arithmetic server dedicated to data operation. This architecture enables the existing game servers to process more access and job requests by reducing the load. Through mathematical modeling and experimental results, we show that our scheme yields higher efficiency than the existing ones.

To support this paradigm, the concept of "My Data" has proposed and has realized in various industrial sectors, including medial sectors. Based on the concept of the medical My Data, this paper proposes a personal health record (PHR) and an electronic medical record (EMR) data trading model. Particularly, this paper proposes a system model to support the medical My Data environment and relevant procedure among stakeholders for PHR/EMR data trading that ensures the rights of data subjects. Based on the proposed system model, this paper also proposes various mathematical models to analyze the behavior of stakeholders and shows the feasibility of the proposed data trading model that satisfies the requirements of both data subjects and data consumers.

  • Until present, most studies about energy efficiency of quadruped walking robot are mathematical modelings, dynamic analysis or simulation consumption energy per period by basic efficiency evaluate in this paper, a quadruped walking robot Titan-VIII is used for walking experience. The total moving length is about 2[m]. The stride length is 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, walking period is changed by 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 3.0[sec] per each stride length. So consumption energy of 12 cases are measured. The energy efficiency of quadruped walking robot was analyzed by data that is saved by an experiment.

  • In general, ships are towed to keep the safe operations in harbor or channel by tug boats. Due to increase in ocean traffic, many accidents are happened in harbor or channel in these days. Therefore it is necessary to predict manoeuvrability of tug-barge system, and to assure the safety of that system. Turg-barge system is composed of tug boat, barge, and towing cable, connecting both ships. Manoeuvring equations of tug-barge system are suggested, and the scopes of model tests are discussed to establish the mathematical models for tug boats in this paper.
