  • Retaining walls with reinforced earth have been constructed around the world. The use of reinforced earth is a recent development in the design and construction of earth-retaining structure. It is believed that reinforced retaining wall has some advantages which make construction quite simple basically. It wilt take short construction time relatively, comparing, fur example with reinforced-concrete retaining wall. In addition, low price and easy construction will be good attractive points in practical point of view. In this study, five field-tests monitoring data for lateral pressures on geogrid-reinforced retaining wall have been compiled and evaluated. Based on field-tests it is found that horizontal displacements of the facing was measured to be about 0.19∼0.76% and that the maximum tensile strains of reinforcement was evaluated to be about 0.66∼1.98%. The maximum tensile strains, measured from each site, do not reach 5% of the practical allowable strain of the geogrid. And also it is found that the lateral pressure distributions of reinforced-earth retaining wall are close to a trapezoid shape like a flexible retaining wall system, instead of a theoretical triangular shape.

  • In this study, the virtual fixed point analysis and 3D fully modeling analysis for bent pile structures are conducted by considering various influencing factors and the applicability of the virtual fixed point theory is discussed. Also, the optimized column-pile length ratio is analyzed for supplementing virtual fixed point design and examining a more exact behavior of bent pile structures by taking into account the major influencing parameters such as pile length, column and pile diameter, reinforcement ratio and soil conditions. To obtain the detailed information, the settlement and lateral deflection of the virtual fixed point theory are smaller than those of 3D fully modeling analysis. On the other hand, the virtual fixed point analysis overestimates the axial force and bending moment compared with 3D fully modeling analysis. It is shown that the virtual fixed point analysis cannot adequately predict the real behavior of bent pile structures. Therefore, it is necessary that 3D fully modeling analysis is considered for the exact design of bent pile structures. In this study, the emphasis is on quantifying an improved design method (optimized column-pile length ratio) of bent pile structures developed by considering the relation between the column-pile length ratio and allowable lateral deflection criteria. It can be effectively used to perform a more economical and improved design of bent pile structures.

  • In this study, the lateral behavior of Pile-Bent structures subjected to lateral loading was evaluated by a load-transfer approach. An analytical method based on the Beam-Column model and nonlinear load transfer curve method was proposed to consider material non-linearity (elastic and yielding) and $P-{\Delta}$ effect. Special attention was given to the lateral deflection of Pile-Bent structures depending on different soil properties, lateral load, slenderness ratio based on pier length and reinforcing effect of casing. From the results of the parametric study, it is shown that the increase of lateral displacement in a pile is much less favorable for an inelastic analysis than for an elastic analysis. It is found that for inelastic analysis, the maximum bending moment is located within a depth approximately 3.5D(D: pile diameter) below ground surface, but within 1.5D when $P-{\Delta}$ effect is considered. It is also found that the magnitude and distribution of the lateral deflections and bending moments on a pile are highly influenced by the inelastic analysis and $P-{\Delta}$ effect, let alone soil properties around an embedded pile.

  • In the elastic wave equations, both horizontal and vertical displacements are defined. Since we can measure both the horizontal and vertical displacements in field acquisition, these displacements compose a displacement vector. In this study, we propose a frequency-domain elastic waveform inversion technique taking advantage of the magnitudes of displacement vectors to define objective function. When we apply this displacement-vector objective function to the frequency-domain waveform inversion, the inversion process naturally incorporates the back-propagation algorithm. Through the inversion examples with the Marmousi model and the SEG/EAGE salt model, we could note that the RMS error of the solution obtained by our algorithm decreased more stably than that of the conventional method. Particularly, the density of the Marmousi model and the low-velocity sub-salt zone of the SEG/EAGE salt model were successfully recovered. Since the gradient direction obtained from the proposed objective function is numerically unstable, we need additional study to stabilize the gradient direction. In order to perform the waveform inversion using the displacementvector objective function, it is necessary to acquire multi-component data. Hence, more rigorous study should be continued for the multi-component land acquisition or OBC (Ocean Bottom Cable) multi-component survey.

  • In this study, an unbraced five-story steel-framed structure was designed in accordance with KBC2005 to understand the features of structural behavior for the arrangement of semi-rigid connections. An inelastic time history analysis of structural models was performed, wherein all the connections were idealized as fully rigid and semi-rigid. Additionally, horizontal and vertical arrangements of semi-rigid connections were used for the models. A fiber model was utilized for the moment-curvature relationship of a steel beam and a column, a three-parameter power model for the moment-rotation angle of the semi-rigid connection, and a three-parameter model for the hysteretic behavior of a steel beam, column, and connection. The base-shear force, top displacement, story drift, required ductility for the connection, maximum bending moment of the column, beam, and connection, and distribution of the plastic hinge were investigated using four earthquake excitations with peak ground acceleration for a mean return period of 2,400 years and for the maximum base-shear force in the pushover analysis of a 5% story drift. The maximum base-shear force and story drift decreased with the outer vertical distribution of the semi-rigid connection, and the required ductility for the connection decreased with the higher horizontal distribution of the semi-rigid connection. The location of the maximum story drift differed in the pushover analysis and the time history analysis, and the magnitude was overestimated in the pushover analysis. The outer vertical distribution of the semi-rigid connection was recommended for the base-shear force, story drift, and required ductility for the connection.

  • For analyzing seismic performance of long-span bridge for multi-support excitation and preparing technically and efficiently for a variety of design demands, the new module on multiple excitation was built in a reliable non-linear analysis program(RCAHEST) by using Influence Line Method, and the study on structures was performed previously. Also, the result of the analysis through RCAHEST was compared and verified with commercial finite element analysis program SAP2000 by using the feature of Multi-Support Excitation. From these results, nonlinear time history analysis considering multi-support excitation was studied after designing FE model of Incheon cable-stayed bridge. It was proved that the maximum response of horizontal displacement decreased as the time delay was increasing at all nodes of bridge. And then the serviceability of analysis model was evaluated by performing ultimate analysis under changes in maximum acceleration of seismic load data.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between horizontal morphology of lateral pterygoid muscle and onset of temporomandibular joint disorders. Randomly selected 150 subjects, assigned with equal number in terms of gender and age group, were included. The axial and sagittal images in their magnetic resonance images of the temporomandibular joints were used to measure the morphologic characteristics of lateral pterygoid muscles and temporomandibular joints. The measurement variables were maximal horizontal width and insertion angle to the condyle, position of the articular disc, condylar deformity, and joint effusion. In addition, presence or absence of the temporomandibular joint pain was examined through history and palpation of the joints. The relationships among measurement variables were analyzed and the results were as follow. The insertion angle of the lateral pterygoid muscle to the condyle was higher in the joint of anterior disc displacement without reduction than that in the joint of normal disc position. In addition, the maximal horizontal width of the lateral pterygoid muscle was significantly increased in joints with pain than those without pain. Also, the insertion angle was significantly higher in younger age group and the maximal width was significantly greater in male than in female. These results suggest that high insertion angle of lateral pterygoid muscle might be an important anatomic predisposing factor for anterior disc displacement in temporomandibular joint and muscular activity of lateral pterygoid muscle might be affected by preauricular pain. In conclusion, there might be a bi-directional interaction between lateral pterygoid muscle and joint in the progression of anterior disc displacement in temporomandibular joint.

  • In this study, experimental analysis was performed about lateral load capacity and behavior of laterally loaded-bored rigid piles in muti-layered soil conditions. Lateral pile load tests were performed for muti-layerd soils consisting of different relative density. Ultimated lateral load capacities were measured from lateral load-displacement curves and compared with estimated values using theoretical methods. Bending moments and unit lateral capacity distribution of surrounding piles were measured from attached strain gauges and earth pressure sensors on the pile. It was found that ultimated lateral load capacities were different from the muti-layered soil conditions, and measured values were lower than estimated values. The bending moment distributions of the pile were similar all the time. Unit lateral capacity distributions were a little different from muti-layered soil conditions, but basically similar to the distribution proposed by Prasad and Chari (1999).

  • If a problem occurs in the strut during the construction of the braced wall, they may cause excessive deformation of the braced wall. Therefore, in this study, the behavior of the braced wall and existing tunnel adjacent to excavation were investigated assuming that the support function of strut is lost during construction process. For this purpose, a series of model test was performed. As a result of the study, the earth pressure in the ground behind wall was rearranged due to the deformation of the braced wall, and the ground displacements caused the deformation of adjacent tunnels. When the struts located on the nearest side wall from the tunnel were removed, the deformation of the braced wall and the tunnel deformation were the largest. The magnitude of transferred earth pressure depended on the location of tunnel. The increase of the cover depth of tunnel from 0.65D to 2.65D caused the increase of the earth pressure by 25.6%. As the distance between braced wall and tunnel was increased from 0.5D to 1.0D, the transferred earth pressure increased by 16% on average. Horizontal displacements of braced wall by the removal of the strut tended to concentrate around the removed struts, and the horizontal displacement increased as the strut removal position is lowered. The tunnel displacement was maximum, when the cover depth of tunnel was 1.15D and the horizontal distance between braced wall and the side of tunnel was 0.5D. The minimal displacement occurred, when the cover depth of tunnel was 2.65D and the horizontal distance between braced wall and the side of tunnel was 1.0D. The difference between the maximum displacement and the minimum displacement was about 2 times, and the displacement was considered to be the largest when it was in the range of 1.15D to 1.65D and the horizontal distance of 0.5D.

  • This study aim to investigate image characteristics due to focus-grid and head phantom decentering from the armorphos silicon thin film transistor detector the fixed focus-grid is applied, wish to propose right use method of digital medical equipment. Acquired image according to focus-grid and head phantom position decentering using head phantom on armorphos silicon thin film transistor detector the fixed focus-grid is applied. acquired image evaluate pixel value, histogram, plot profile, surface plot using NIB (Image J) image analysis program and compared decentering image with standard image. Mean value and standard deviation value of focus-grid lateral decentering and duplex decentering of focus-grid and head phantom decreased by ratio, consequently increase of horizontality, diagonal decentering. also, deteriorated contrast of image because frequency of high pixel value decreases fairly. according increases decentering, image distortion phenomenon was increase, by next time, pixel mean value of head phantom decentering was no big change but horizontality, diagonal, mean value and standard deviation value of pixel decreased by ratio. Even if increase pixel noise of image because wide latitude and post processing ability of digital detector, radiotechnologist can not recognize. Therefore, radiotechnologist must recognize correctly the photographing factors which increases pixel noise on the grid system installation digital detector and should exam.
