  • In this study, the structural safety of the bearing support was analysed by applying the vertical load (bearing design load) and horizontal load (horizontal force generated during an earthquake) using a precise three-dimensional numerical model. The results of stress and displacement of newly-poured concrete and welded rebars were confirmed numerically. Numerical results show that the increase in the horizontal force and the height of the beam causes the concrete cracking and the stress increase of the rebar connections due to the increase of the stress at the new concrete interface. Therefore, it was analyzed that the increase in the height of bearing support is directly related to the horizontal force and it is necessary to apply the bearing support height appropriate for the bearing support capacity. It was proposed that a method of setting the height of the bearing support suitable for the bearing capacity and determining the reinforcement by presenting the guideline with the correlation between the horizontal force acting on the bearing support and its height.

  • In this paper, we propose and fabricate the dual-band microstrip patch antenna with parasitic patch for S-DMB(Satellite-Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) and ITS (Intelligent Transport System) services. The measured - 10 dB bandwidth and the minimum return loss is 300 MHz and - 27 dB for S-DMB, 600 MHz and -17 dB for ITS, respectively. It is noticed that the measured and simulated results are agreed well. The S-DMB antenna has conical beam pattern in the vertical plane and has omni-directional beam pattern in the horizontal plane. The conical beam pattern has the maximum gain about 4.2 dBi when ${\theta}$ is $45^{\circ}$ at the center frequency of 2.6 GHz. The ITS antenna has directional beam pattern in the vertical plane that has maximum gain about 6.4 dBi when ${\theta}$ is $0^{\circ}$ at the center frequency of 5.8 GHz.

  • In this paper, a cylindrical hybrid antenna which is spatially fed by an off-set linear feed array is described to form complex beam patterns. The linear feed array consists of twelve micro-strip patch elements and forms a flat-topped beam pattern with a beam-width of $90^{\circ}$ in the horizontal plane. The vertical curve on the cylindrical reflector with the linear feed array is shaped in order to form a cosecant beam pattern within the range of $-5^{\circ}$ to $-25^{\circ}$ in the vertical plane. To form complex beam patterns, the hybrid antenna with cylindrical reflector aperture of $140{\times}50\;cm$ was designed and fabricated to be operated within the IMT 2000 service band, and also electrical performances of the antenna were measured and analyzed.

  • Box culvert has long since been used for various purposes , water and sewerage works, communication and electricity facilities, subway, railway, etc. In urban area, the construetion of box culvert generally consists of excavation-installation of the culvert-backfill. However, the existing design methods for earth pressure on the box culvert do not take into account the excavation(or backfill) geometry. ' A new method considering excavation geometry for earth pressure on box culvert is suggested here. The lateral earth pressures by the newly suggested method agree relatively with results of finite element analyses, but those of existing method are greatly overestimated. The vertical pressure on the top of the box culvert by the new method is similar to those of existing method and finite element analysis. However, the reactional pressure on the bottom of the box culvert depends largely upon the stiffness of the foundation soil. The reactional pressure by the new method agrees well with that of finite element analysis, only when the stiffness is low. From the finite element analysis it is shown that the lateral earth pressure on box culvert depends upon the excavated slope (G) and the net bottom distance (Bc).

  • Physical experiments have been performed in a wave basin to investigate change of the wave loading on the crown wall under obliquely incident wave conditions. The measurement was carried out with wave incidence angle of 0, 15, 30 and 45°. The pressure transducers were placed on the front and bottom face of the crown wall to obtain horizontal and uplift force as well. It was found that both the horizontal and vertical force decreases with the incidence angle. Based on the analysis of the experimental data, a formula was suggested to estimate the reduction rate of horizontal and vertical forces under obliquely incident waves.

  • This paper first presents the distributions of static lateral earth pressure in case of translational o.all movement (ATRA) , obtained respectively by the Dubrova method and by the method where Chang's idea is applied to the former, acting on the rigid retaining vertical wall with horizontal sand backfill. Total active resultant forces and the points of application of those forces, calculated results by the two methods, are compared with the experimental results recently published by Fang Y.S. and Ishibashi I. A comparative study about the distribution of static lateral earth pressurein each case of rotation about top(AT) and base (AB), on which the writer studied previously, is also conducted along with the above experimental results. The following results are obtained 1) In case of AT and ATRA, the experimental results are in good agreement with the calculated results by the Dubrova's method. 2) In case of AB, the results of the Dubrova's method are very inconsistent with those of model test, where as th method 9.here Chang's idea is applied, corresponds well, even though there is a small deviation.

  • A result of measurement for the relative dose distribution of neutron gamma mixed radiation field in the biological irradiation facility installed at TRIGA Mark-III reactor is described. The relative dose distributions of neutron-gamma mixed radiation field in the biological exposure room have been experimentally determined using a thermoluminescent dosimeter. Presented herein in graphical forms are the experimental results obtained. It as observed that the region commonly having the characteristics of rather homogeneous horizontal and lateral dose distributions is confined to the area bounded by the two planes horizontally parallel to the beam direction with heights of about 40 cm and 130 cm, respectively, at distances beyond 100 cm from the segmentary surface of the aluminum pool liner projected into the the exposure room, while other areas show a steeper gradient in dosage, especially the places adjacent to the segment of the aluminum pool liner and near the inner po${\gamma}$lion of the concrete walls of the exposure room.

  • Purpose: The present study was conducted to analyze any difference in the movement of aspheric RGP lens by the amounts of keratometiric astigmatisms using keratometer and corneal topography. Methods: Corneal curvatures in thirty six eyes of males and females of with-the-rule keratometric astigmatisms in their twenties were measured by a keratometer and worn aspheric RGP lenses. Then, lens rotations, vertical and horizontal movements of lens by blinking were measured to compare with lens movements when aspheric RGP lenses were fitted by total keratometric astigmatisms using corneal topography. Results: The case having higher amount of central keratometric astigmatism was 61.1% of subjects, however, 36.1% of subjects showed higher total keratometric astigmatism indicating that central keratometric astigmatism was not always bigger than total keratometric astigmatism. Since over 0.25 diopter difference between total and central keratometric astigmatisms was shown in 19 eyes (52.8% of subjects), the prescription for lens fitting could be changed. Significant difference in horizontal movement was detected with increase of astigmatism when it compared based on the amount of keratometric astigmatism measured by a keratometer. However, there was no significant difference in lens rotation, horizontal and vertical movements by comparison with the amount of total keratometric astigmatism using a corneal topography. When central keratometric astigmatism measured by keratometer was bigger than total keratometric astigmatism estimated by corneal topography, bigger lens rotation was shown compared with opposite case. Also, the tendency of bigger lens rotation was measured with the increase of keratomatric astigmatism in the case of same prescription having same base curves with same amount of keratometric astigmatism but different curvatures. Conclusions: From the present study, we concluded that lens movements on cornea were not totally different when aspheric RGP lens fitted on with-the-rule astigmatism by keratometer and corneal topography. However, there was some difference in certain lens movements. Therefore, we concluded that further study on the relationship between the prescriptions for lens fitting should be conducted for improving the rate of successful lens fitting by keratometer or for the proper application of corneal topography for lens fitting.

  • Solar energy is one of the most promising energy resources in the future. For the application and dissemination of solar energy technologies in various fields, reliable data sets of solar irradiation are needed for engineers, researchers, businessmen, and policy makers. Global horizontal solar radiation is needed for the use of flat plate collector, solar domestic hot water system, photovoltaic devices and passive systems like green house. In many countries, solar radiation data accumulated for more then 40 or 50 years and typical weather data are published with average of more then 30 years. In Korea, those global total radiations are measured for about 30 years. With the connections of computer network, measured data could be transmitted to the central control system at key station through Ethernet lines. The data acquisition systems are connected to be automatically controlled by the monitoring network. Global horizontal solar radiation data 16 locations were measured and averaged from 1982 to 2008.
