  • This paper deals with the free vibrations of circular strip foundations which have uniform solid rectangular cross-section. The ground which supports circular strips was modeled as the two parameter elastic foundation. Differential equations governing the flexural-torsional free vibrations of circular strips supported by such foundation were derived, and solved numerically for obtaining the natural frequencies and mode shapes. Boundary condition of free-free ends was considered for numerical examples. Four lowest natural frequencies according to the variations of five system parameters i.e. subtended angle, depth ratio, contact ratio, elasticity ratio and soil parameter are reported in the non-dimensional forms. Also, typical mode shapes of both deformations and stress resultants are presented in the figures. Experiment was conducted for validating the theory developed in this study.

  • A study of flow characteristics of supersonic fluidic oscillators with shared feedback channel inside was carried out. Unsteady CFD analysis were performed and the numerical results were validated by comparison with the experimental ones observed for the same operation conditions. It was found that the mass flow between individual oscillators through the shared feedback channel directly influenced on the oscillating flow mechanism inside the oscillator, and finally on the synchronization of the jet oscillations. It was also observed that the oscillator with shared feedback channel provided higher pressure loss as well as higher oscillation frequency as compared to the single oscillator of the same geometric shape.

  • Numerical methods for calculating both the natural frequencies and buckling loads of columns with the multiple elastic springs are developed. In order to derive the governing equations of such columns, each elastic spring is modeled as a discrete elastic foundation with the finite longitudinal length. By using this model, the differential equations governing both the free vibrations and buckled shapes, respectively, of such columns are derided. These differential equations are solved numerically. The Runge- Kutta method is used to integrate the differential equations, and the determinant search method combined with Regula-Falsi method is used to determine the eingenvalues. namely natural frequencies and buckling loads. In the numerical examples, the clamped-clamped. clamped-hinged, hinged-clamped and hinged-hinged end constraints are considered. Extensive numerical results including the frequency parameters, mode shapes of free vibrations and buckling load parameters are presented in the non-dimensional forms.

  • This paper deals with free vibrations of the tapered Timoshenko beam in which both the rotatory inertia and shear deformation are included. The cross section of the tapered beam is chosen as the rectangular cross section whose depth is constant but breadth is varied with the parabolic function. The fourth order ordinary differential equation with respect the vertical deflection governing free vibrations of such beam is derived based on the Timoshenko beam theory. This governing equation is solved for determining the natural frequencies corresponding with their mode shapes. In the numerical examples, three end constraints of the hinged-hinged, hinged-clamped and clamped-clamped ends are considered. The effects of various beam parameters on natural frequencies are extensively discussed. The mode shapes of both the deflections and stress resultants are presented, in which the composing rates due to bending rotation and shear deformation are determined.

  • Power plant is a kind of basic industrial facility and might cause fatal industrial and human damage. In this study, the characteristics and effect of blast-induced vibration for tunnelling which underpass ○○ power plant in operation were evaluated. Previous blasting cases adjacent to industrial facilities were intensively reviewed, then allowable vibration criteria were suggested. 3 dimensional dynamic numerical analysis based on finite element method was performed to investigate particle velocity and resonance was examined by calculating the predominant frequencies. As a result, particle velocity at pump foundation which is nearest to the source was approached to the allowable criteria, therefore, the modified blasting pattern was newly suggested and confirmed the attenuation effect based on the test blasting. Consequently, appropriated decision-support procedure was established in case of adjacent blasting to industrial facilities.

  • In this study, the effects of the wave field changes due to the coastal structure on the hydrodynamic performance of the OWC wave energy, converter are analyzed using a three-dimensional numerical wave tank technique (NWT). The OWC device is simulated numerically by introducing a linear pressure drop model, considering the coupling effect between the turbine and the OWC chamber in the time domain. The flow distribution around the chamber is different due to the change of reflection characteristics depending on the consideration of the breakwater model. The wave energy captured from the breakwater is spatially distributed on the plane of the front of the breakwater, and the converted pneumatic power increased when concentrated in front of the chamber. The change of the standing wave distribution is repeated according to the relationship between the incident wavelength and the length of the breakwater, and the difference in energy conversion performance of the OWC was confirmed.

  • Purpose: This study aims to verify structural stability by manufacturing a 40m full-scale specimen composed of a segmental U-shaped PSC girder with integrated tensioning systems and a concrete slab, proceeding dynamic behavior tests, and compare the results of the tests with the results of numerical analysis. Method: Dynamic behavior tests were conducted on a full-scale, undamaged specimen using an impact hammer, and the natural frequency and damping ratio were measured and compared with numerical analysis techniques and the general damping ratio of the facilities. Result: The natural frequency of the numerical analysis model consisting of a girder and slab composite section was calculated to be 2.561Hz, the natural frequency of the full-scale specimen was measured to be 2.670Hz, and the damping ratio was calculated to be 0.42~0.68%. Conclusion: The natural frequency of the full-scale specimen was found to be 4.3% larger than that of the numerical analysis model. Since the masses of the full-scale specimen and the numerical analysis model are the same as 99.97%, it can be derived that the stiffness of the full-scale specimen has secured structural safety and stability. As a result, the dynamic behavior stability of the specimen was verified. The measured damping ratio of 0.42~0.68% was found to be a stable dynamic behavior compared to the PSC structures damping ratio of 0.5~1.0% in the elastic region.

  • A computational study has been performed out to evaluate the effect of a vertical porous barrier on the pressure oscillations in a supersonic cavity. The porous barriers with different perforations were vertically installed into a rectangular cavity at Mach numbers 1.50, 1.83 and 2.50. TVD finite difference MUSCL scheme was employed to solve the two-dimensional, unsteady, compressible Navier-Stokes equations. The present vertical porous barrier considerably altered the characteristics of the time-dependent shear layers that occur at the upstream edge of cavity and remarkably reduced the pressure oscillations inside the supersonic cavity. The present results showed that the effectiveness of passive control using the present porous vertical barrier is dependent on Mach number and the perforation of the porous barrier.

선원의 사용자에게 제공되는 최종방사능을 평가하는데 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.r의 분포를 보였다.cting the effect of earthquake on structures. • This paper deals with the flexural free vibrations of circular strip foundation with the variable breadth on Pasternak soil. The breadth of strip varies with the linear functional fashion, which is symmetric about the mid-arc. Differential equations governing flexural free vibrations of such strip foundation are derived, in which the elastic soil with the shear layer, i.e. Pasternak soil, is considered. Effects of the rotatory and shear deformation are included in the governing equations. Differential equations are numerically solved to calculate the natural frequencies and mode shapes. In the numerical examples, the hinged-hinged, hinged-clamped and clamped-clamped end constraints are considered. Four lowest frequency parameters accompanied with their corresponding mode shapes are reported and parametric studies between frequency parameters and various system parameters are investigated.
