The influences of high speed train on the dynamic responses of steel composite railway bridges are investigated. The bridge system which has two I-girder and several cross beams is modeled with plate and frame elements. With assumption of concrete slabs are fully connected with steel girders, the offset between slabs and girders is modeled using constraint equation. The track system is modeled using beams on elastic foundation theory. And, the TGV train model is developed in 2-dimension considering bouncing and pitching motion. And braking action of vehicle is considered using speed dependent braking function. To investigate the behavior of bridges due to moving trains, parametric studies on the variation of natural frequency of bridge, speed parameter, vehicle modeling method, braking action of train, etc are performed.
Thermal diode is a device which allows heat to be transferred in one direction by convection due to difference of density of fluid, and blocks heat flow in the opposite direction. Vertical plate for heat collection and radiation are of utility for design of thermal diode. It was considered the transient and steady state of air filled thermal diode with guide vane which combined rectangular and parallelogrammic shape enclosures. $Gr^*$ was kept constantly on $1.11{\times}10^{10}{\sim}1.4{\times}10^{10}$ and error range was ${\pm}3%$ during the experiment. Nu was examined when inclined angle are $15^{\cir\c}\;and\;45^{\circ}$ and, also the experiments was carried out with and without guide vane as well. Specially, Nu was linearly increased due to increase of $Gr^*$, and the effect of guide vane and dimensionless channel depth was sensitive. Developed state of temperature began at dimensionless time $0.5{\sim}0.6$ due to variation of inclined angle, which is characteristic of system.

Recently, the safety of the coal-mining tunnels has been improved greatly, but accidents occur continually. Most tunnel support failures occur because the fish plate part that connects the I-beams is unable to withstand ground pressure. In the case of XX coal mine, the arch part of tunnel support bends to the upper direction. In such a case, excessive horizontal load as well as vertical load acts on the tunnel support. Horizontal load is caused by the sudden loosing of underground rock mass or the leakage of underground water, so it is fairly complex to predict horizontal loading on a tunnel support. To predict the horizontal load on this component is defined as the problem that determines the horizontal load conditions in wedges of tunnel support. This is an optimization problem in which maximum bending stress and horizontal load are considered by an objective function and design variables, respectively. Therefore, in this study, design of experiments and optimization algorithm were applied to identify the horizontal load in tunnel support.

RC beam of existing structures often encounter shear problems for various reasons. The shear failure of RC beam is sudden and brittle. Strengthening technique jacketing with external bonding of steel plates(or CFRP and CFS) with epoxy is many use to in practice. This study presents test results on strengthening shear deficient RC beams by external bonding of slit type steel plates. Test parameters are width, interval, length, thickness and angle of slit in steel plates. The purpose was to evaluate the reinforcing effects, failure modes and shear capacities for RC beams of strengthened with various slit type steel plates. The test result confirmed that all slit steel plates improved the stiffness and strength of the specimens significantly. Failure modes of SV series and SD series showed shear fractures and flexure fractures at ultimate state respectively. SD series were ductile rather than SV series.
The strength design for the lightweight bicycle wheel made of the Carbon/Epoxy composite laminates has been discussed in this paper. For bicycle wheel design, lightness of the wheel is important. Also, it has to satisfy the required strength under specific loading cases. Two testing methods for the bicycle wheel, i.e. vertical and complex loadings, are adopted in this study. Because the strengths of composite wheel is different in relation to the stacking sequence and the number of plies, it is important to decide an appropriate stacking sequence and number of layers for the composite wheel. From the finite element analysis results, the most stable sequence orientation and number of layers are determined. The stacking sequence $[0]_{8n}$, $[90]_{8n}$, $[0/90]_{2ns}$, $[{\pm}45]_{2ns}$, $[0/{\pm}45/90]_{ns}$ (n=1,2,3,4)are performed for finite element analysis. From results, $[0/{\pm}45/90]_{3s}$ lay-up is a good selection for the composite bicycle wheel. Also, the weakest point and layer are found in this study.
The underlying advantages of using thin-walled corrugatedwebs instead of plate girders with stiffeners are the elimination of instability problems associated with buckling of the thin-walled flat plate, and elimination of the need for transverse stiffeners, which alsoresults in economic advantages. This paper focuses on two aspects related to the structural design technique forsinusoidal corrugated web steel beams, and the optimum design of the beams using real-value genetic algorithms. The structural design process and design variables used in this optimization werecomposed with EN 1993-1-5, DASt-R015 standard and Pasternak et al. (2004), and the valid design capacity of shear buckling of the standards were compared. For the optimum structural design, the objective function, presented as the fullweight of the sinusoidal corrugated web beams, and the slenderness, member forces, and maximum deflection of the beam, were considered constraints. Finally, the simple beam under the uniform load was adopted as a numerical example, and the effective probability parameters of the genetic operators were considered to find the global minimum point.
$\alpha$-Sexithiophene ($\alpha$-6T) thin films were deposited by organic molecular beam deposition (OMBD) technique. The $\alpha$-6T was synthesized and purified by the sublimation method. The thin films of the $\alpha$-6T were deposited under various deposition conditions. The effects of deposition rate, substrate temperature, and vacuum pressure on the formation of these films have been studied. The molecular orientation, crystallinity, and surface morphology of $\alpha$-6T films were investigated with angle-resolved UV/visible absorption spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry (XRD), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). It was found that the crystalline structure of $\alpha$-6T films was monoclinic and independent uppon substrate temperature, deposition rate, and deposition pressure. On the other hand, the $\alpha$-6T molecules in the film deposited at a low deposition rate, higher substrate temperature, and under a high vacuum tended to be aligned perpendicular to the substrate.
To observe the behavior of lateral deformation of buried pipe and the preventing effect of embankment piles against the lateral deformation, a series of full-scale field tests were performed on a reclaimed coastal area. A buried pipe was installed in the west coast undergoing reclamation and embankment was performed by three steps. Then vertical settlement and lateral displacement were measured by the settlement plate and the inclinometer. Embankment pile system were applied to prevent the lateral displacement of buried pipe. Heave of the buried pipe slightly happens during embankment and following settlement. Finally the behavior steadily converged. The preventing effect of the embankment pile was approximately two times stronger than non-reinforcement. Both settlement and lateral displacement appear to be bigger at upper ground and smaller at lower ground.
With the need of efficient site use retaining walls have frequently used. Of them dry cast modular block wall(MBW), in which geogrid and concrete block are used is getting popular because of its simplicity and economical efficiency of construction. However, since this method is based on the theory of earth pressure, sands with good quality should be used. In contrast, reinforced soil slope(RSS) that the slope is less than $70^{\circ}$ can use wider range of soil than MBW. A hybrid reinforced geo-structure might be a good alternative in view of overcoming difficulty obtaining soils with good quality as well as maximizing the efficiency of site use. This method is composed of reinforced block wall and reinforced soil slope. In this method, reinforced block wall is constructed up to a certain height vertically at ground boundary first. Reinforced soil slope is then constructed on the block wall subsequently. This paper introduces several technical points that should be taken into account in design and construction.
Recently, as the size of buildings structure becomes large increases, their mat area of building structure is supported or by an inhomogeneous foundation. This paper presents a vibration analysis on thick plates subjected to in-plane force is presented in this paper. The rectangular plate is isotropic, homogeneous, and composed of a linearly elastic material. A vibration analysis of the rectangular thick plate iwas done by useing ofarectangular finite element with 8 nodes and 9 nodes. In this study, the foundation was idealized as a Pasternak foundation model. A Pasternak foundation haves a shear layer on Winkler's model, which idealizes the foundation as a vertical spring. In order tTo analysze the vibration of a plate supported on by an inhomogeneous Pasternak foundation, the value of the Winkler foundation parameter of the central and border zones of the plate awere chosen as WFP1 and WFP2. (fFigure 4.). The Winkler foundation parameter of WFP1 and WFP2 is varied from 0 to 10, $10^2$, and $10^3$ and the shear foundation parameters is were 0, 5, and 10. The ratio of the in-plane force to the critical load iwas applied as 0.4 to 0.8
