A Study on the Potential Effects of Consumer Preference for Beef and Involvement in the Attributes of Beef Selection on Consumers' Purchase Intentions (쇠고기 선택 속성의 관여도와 선호도가 구매 의도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to determine potential associations among consumer preference for American beef, consumers' involvement in selection of desired beef, and their intentions to purchase beef. In order to meet the above purpose, this study surveyed the visitors who shopped at 2 big discount stores selected in each of 3 metropolitan cities(Seoul, Daejeon and Daegu) from July 11 to 13, 2008. Total 278 sheets of the questionnaire were collected and used for final data analysis. As a result, it was found that the consumers responded most sensitively to the safety of food when buying beef but didn't care much about the amount of fat and beef brand. In terms of imported beef, it was found that Australian beef was considered reliable by consumers, and their preference for Korean beef was positively correlated with that for Australian beef. In addition, in regard to the attributes of beef selection, it was found that low involvement group had higher intentions to purchase American beef than high involvement group. In order to determine the potential effects of consumers' involvement in the attributes of beef selection on their intentions to purchase American beef, this study conducted data analysis in control of consumer preference for American beef. As a result, it was found that consumers' involvement in the attributes of beef selection had significant effects on their intentions to buy American beef. And sex was found to be one of the demographic characteristics associated with involvement in the attributes of beef selection, particularly associated with low involvement. Depending on sex, it was found that women had lower preference for American beef than men.

A Study of Sports Stars' Guarantee Advertising and Consumers' Intention to Purchase Sporting Goods (스포츠스타의 보증광고 속성과 소비자의 스포츠용품 구매의도 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of guarantee advertising by three sports stars (Jisung Park, Doori Cha, and Tahwan Park) working for famous sport brand names such as Nike, Adidas, and Fila on the intention of purchasing. In the study, total 240 people of all ages but those who are under twenty are chosen to conduct a survey. The results of investigation is the followings. First, with the respect of gender and age there are statistically meaningful differences between sports stars' guarantee advertising and consumers' intention of purchasing sporting goods that result from demographical elements. Second, how the guarantee advertising of sports stars have an influence on consumer's intention of purchasing products results in the three sports stars in a different way. As for Jisung Park, the result represents that his athlete characteristics such as expertise, creditability and similarity have to do with consumers' intention of purchasing goods most. Third, as for Doori Cha, the result identifies that his creditability and similarity plays an important role for the consumers' intention of purchasing. Forth, as for Tahwan Park, similarity has some meaningful influence on the sport consumer's intention of purchasing. The fact that similarity plays an important role in common for the consumers' intention of purchasing is noteworthy to the researchers relating to the advertisement area.

Sales Commission of Department Store and Policy Implications (백화점의 판매수수료 현황 및 정책대응 방안)

  • Department Stores have been in place as typical large-scale retailer in Korean retail market. After Asian financial crisis in 1997, the market share of major three department stores has been increased and they have had a dominant position in relationship with vendors or manufacturers. Thus, they are able to control sales commission. Sales commission is defined as things that department stores which contribute to products sales instead of manufacturers take some portion of price as their revenue. In other words, vendors or manufacturers pay some amount of money from their sales by contracted ratio to department stores. The problem is that vendors or manufacturers think that sales commission is high. However, department stores have a different opinion that sales commission is not high because they generate new value from gathering customers and doing marketing activity on behalf of vendors or manufacturers. Because department stores have operated with business model of renting sales space to vendors or manufacturers instead of buying goods directly from them, this situation has been taken place. The revenue of department stores depend on sales commission. Thus, they want to get a dominant power to control sales commission in relationship with vendors or manufacturers. So, they have tried to increase their size and brand power. The considered policies related in sales commission of department stores are as following: preventing monopoly or oligopoly of department store, being strength of monitoring for department stores' unfair trade, strict enforcement of law for large-scale retailer's unfair trade, and inducing win-win strategy doing voluntarily by department stores.

  • 2009년은 그야말로 새옹지마(塞翁之馬 : 인생에 있어서 길흉화복은 항상 바뀌어 미리 헤아릴 수 없다)와 같은 한 해로 기억에 오래 남을 듯 하다. 2008년 말에 2009년 양돈산업을 전망할 때 미국발 금융위기에도 불구하고 국내산 돈육 공급량 부족과 환율상승 및 급변으로 인한 돈육 수입량 부족, 그리고 수급 불균형으로 대부분의 전문가들이 역대 최고의 돈가를 예상했고, 실제로 3월에 지육가격이 5,000원/지육kg(전국 비육돈 평균시세)을 상회하면서 성수기에 돈가가 6,000원/지육 kg에 육박할 것이라 기대했었다. 그러나 4월 미국에서 발생한 신종인플루엔자가 초기에 돼지에서 유래된 인플루엔자라고 보도되면서 돈육소비량이 급감하였고 이로 인해 성수기에 돈가가 오히려 하락하는 기현상을 보였다. 다행히 신종플루가 돼지와 무관하다는 사실이 밝혀지면서 소비가 회복되었고 돈가 또한 회복되어 올해는 역대 최고의 돈가가 형성될 것으로 예상되고, 여기에 국제곡물시세가 안정되면서 사료가격도 여러 차례 인하되어 양돈 농장의 수익성은 상당부분 향상될 것으로 판단된다. 하지만 신종플루 사망자가 증가하면서 지금도 여전히 돈육소비가 위축되어 있어 막연히 호황을 기대하기 쉽지 않은 실정이다. 돈가의 급등과 급락, 외부요인에 의한 경제환경의 변화로 인한 환율의 변동 및 소비량의 변화는 2009년 양돈산업에 대한 불안감을 증폭시켜 높은 돈가와 수익성에도 불구하고 전체 산업의 규모가 커지지는 못했다. 여기에 국산 돈육에 대한 소비자들의 무한 신뢰로 인해, 2008년 12월 돈육 원산지 표시제 확대 실시로 국내산 돈육 수요가 증가 하여 여전히 75% 가량의 국산 돈육 자급율을 유지함에도 불구하고 아직까지 맛의 차별화 및 도축, 유통의 안전성에 대한 확고한 신뢰 구축을 위한 브랜드 돈육 유통의 확대가 소비자의 기대치만큼 자리 잡지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 또한 친환경적인 양돈산업 육성 및 분뇨 처리 관련하여도 뚜렷한 해답을 찾지 못하고 있어, 양돈 농가의 입장에서는 규모의 확장 및 신규 진입이 극도로 제한되어 있고 일부 지역에서는 사업의 존폐를 결정하는 주요 원인이 되고 있다. 그간 대한민국 양돈 산업의 경쟁력에 발목을 잡고 있던 낮은 생산성 문제와 소모성 질병에 의한 높은 폐사율 문제 또한 아직도 여전히 해결되지 못한 과제이다. <그림 1> 국가별 양돈 농장 생산성 현황에서 보는 바 와 우리나라 양돈 농장의 생산성은 여전히 PSY(모돈당 연간 이유자돈 두수)가 18두에 못 미치고 있어 국제 경쟁력을 논하기 자제 가 부끄러운 실정이다. 여러 가지 내 외부적인 어려운 환경에도 불구하고 올 2009년은 양돈농가들이 최고의 수익성을 기록한 한 해가 될 것이라는 사실에는 이의가 별로 없을 듯하다. 2년 여간의 고돈가로 인해 대한민국 양돈산업은 새로운 도약을 위한 밑천이 마련된 셈이라고 할 수 있다. 본고에서는 2009년 양돈산업 현황을 돌아보고 다가올 미래를 준비한다는 의미에서 우리나라 양돈산업이 집중해야 할 분야를 짚어보고자 한다.

Evaluation Criteria and Preferred Image of Jeans Products based on Benefit Segmentation (진 제품 구매자의 추구혜택에 따른 평가기준 및 선호 이미지)

  • The purpose of this study was to find differences in evaluation criteria and to find differences in preferred images based on benefits segmented groups of jeans products consumers. Male and female Korean university students participated in the study. Quota sampling method was used to collect the data based on gender and a residential area of the respondents. Data from 492 questionnaires were used in the analysis. Factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha coefficient, cluster analysis, one-way ANOVA, and post-hoc test were conducted. As a result, respondents who seek multi-benefits considered aesthetic criteria(e.g., color, style, design, fit) and quality performance criteria(e.g., durability, ease of care, contractibility, flexibility) more importantly when evaluating and purchasing jeans products. Respondents who seek brand name considered extrinsic criteria(e.g., brand reputation, status symbol, country of origin, fashionability) more importantly than respondents who seek economic efciency. Respondents who seek multi-benefits such as attractiveness, fashion, individuality, and utility tend to prefer all the images: individual image, active image, sexual image, sophisticated image, and simple image when wearing jeans products. Respondents who seek fashion are likely to prefer individual image, and respondents who seek brand name more prefer both individual image and polished image. Mean while, respondents who seek economical efficiency less prefer sexual image and polished image.

Development of the forecasting model for import volume by item of major countries based on economic, industrial structural and cultural factors: Focusing on the cultural factors of Korea (경제적, 산업구조적, 문화적 요인을 기반으로 한 주요 국가의 한국 품목별 수입액 예측 모형 개발: 한국의, 한국에 대한 문화적 요인을 중심으로)

  • The Korean economy has achieved continuous economic growth for the past several decades thanks to the government's export strategy policy. This increase in exports is playing a leading role in driving Korea's economic growth by improving economic efficiency, creating jobs, and promoting technology development. Traditionally, the main factors affecting Korea's exports can be found from two perspectives: economic factors and industrial structural factors. First, economic factors are related to exchange rates and global economic fluctuations. The impact of the exchange rate on Korea's exports depends on the exchange rate level and exchange rate volatility. Global economic fluctuations affect global import demand, which is an absolute factor influencing Korea's exports. Second, industrial structural factors are unique characteristics that occur depending on industries or products, such as slow international division of labor, increased domestic substitution of certain imported goods by China, and changes in overseas production patterns of major export industries. Looking at the most recent studies related to global exchanges, several literatures show the importance of cultural aspects as well as economic and industrial structural factors. Therefore, this study attempted to develop a forecasting model by considering cultural factors along with economic and industrial structural factors in calculating the import volume of each country from Korea. In particular, this study approaches the influence of cultural factors on imports of Korean products from the perspective of PUSH-PULL framework. The PUSH dimension is a perspective that Korea develops and actively promotes its own brand and can be defined as the degree of interest in each country for Korean brands represented by K-POP, K-FOOD, and K-CULTURE. In addition, the PULL dimension is a perspective centered on the cultural and psychological characteristics of the people of each country. This can be defined as how much they are inclined to accept Korean Flow as each country's cultural code represented by the country's governance system, masculinity, risk avoidance, and short-term/long-term orientation. The unique feature of this study is that the proposed final prediction model can be selected based on Design Principles. The design principles we presented are as follows. 1) A model was developed to reflect interest in Korea and cultural characteristics through newly added data sources. 2) It was designed in a practical and convenient way so that the forecast value can be immediately recalled by inputting changes in economic factors, item code and country code. 3) In order to derive theoretically meaningful results, an algorithm was selected that can interpret the relationship between the input and the target variable. This study can suggest meaningful implications from the technical, economic and policy aspects, and is expected to make a meaningful contribution to the export support strategies of small and medium-sized enterprises by using the import forecasting model.

Consumer Perceptions of Food-Related Hazards and Correlates of Degree of Concerns about Food (주부의 식품안전에 대한 인식과 안전성우려의 관련 요인)

  • This survey was conducted to assess the consumer perceptions of food-related hazard in 500 housewives from all over Korea. The subjects were selected by stratified random sampling method. The survey was performed using structured questionnaire through telephone interview by skilled interviewers. The results showed that 34.6% of the respondents felt secure and were not concerned about food safety, and 65.4% were concerned about food safety. Logistic regression analysis showed that the increasing concern on food brands, food additives (such as food preservatives and artificial color), and imported foodstuffs indicated the current increasing concern on food safety. Other related factors indicating the increasing concern on food safety were education level and care for children's health. The respondents who cared about food safety expressed a high degree of concern on processed foodstuffs such as commercial boxed lunch (93.3%), imported foods (92.7%), fastfoods (89.9%), processed meat products (88.7%), dining out (85.6%), cannery and frozen foods (83.5%), and instant foods (82.0%). The lowest degree of concern was on rice. All the respondents perceived that residues of chemical substances such as pesticides and food additives, and endocrine disrupters were the most potential food risk factors, followed by food-borne pathogens, and GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms). However, these results were not consistent with scientific judgment. Therefore, more education and information were needed for consumers' awareness of facts and myths about food safety. In addition, the results showed that consumers put lower trust in food products information such as food labels, cultivation methods (organic or not), quality labels, and the place of origin. Nevertheless, the respondents expressed their desire to overcome alienation, and recognized the importance of knowing of the origin or the producers of food. They identified that people who need to take extreme precautions on food contamination were the producers, government officials, food companies, consumers, the consumer's association, and marketers, arranged in the order of highest to lowest. They also believed that the production stage of agriculture was the most important step for improving the level of food safety Therefore, the results indicated that there is a need to introduce safety systems in the production of agricultural products, as follows: Good Agricultural Practice (GAP), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP), and Traceability System (75).

Composition in Milling Recovery Ratio of Rice Cultivars, Ilpumbyeo and Chucheongbyeo (일품벼와 추청벼의 도정률 차이의 작물학적 요인분석)

  • This study was carried out to analysis the factor effected by milling rice rate, and to provide the developing rice varieties and cultivation technology. Panicle numbers per spike of Ilpumbyeo and Chucheongbyeo were 105 and 70, respectively. The primary branch panicle rate was Ilpumbyeo 56.2% and Chucheongbyeo 61.4%. The secondary panicle rate of Ilpumbyeo and Chucheongbyeo was 43.3% and 37.9%, respectively. Grain filling rate using specific gravity showed that Ilpumbyeo was the lower filling rate than Chucheongbyeo. Hull weight per one grain was Ilpumbyeo 41.9 mg and Chucheongbyeo 3.92 mg, and hull weight per rough rice 1 kg was Ilpumbyeo 157.36 g and Chucheongbyeo 151.31 g. In milling rate, brown rice ratio by ripening degree of llpumbyeo and Chucheongbyeo with combine harvest was 81.22% and 82.52%. Milled/brown rice ration of llpumbyeo and Chucheongbyeo showed 92.14% and 92.51%. The milling recovery ratio of llpumbyeo was decreased 1.67% then Chucheongbyeo, and the difference was mainly due to the hull weight (0.61%), milled/brown rice ratio (0.37%) and ripening degree (0.69%). Although the varietal differences were found in hull weight and millied/brown rice ratio between llpumbyeo and Chucheongbyeo, the ripening degree was considered as the factor that could be reduced by cultivation technology and post-harvest management.

A Study on the Propensity to Purchase Babies' Cosmetics (베이비화장품의 구매행태에 관한 연구 - 대구, 경북 지역을 중심으로 -)

  • The propensity to purchase babies' cosmetics is investigated and analysed for this research. The synopsis of this research paper is as follows. The first, the $68\%$ of all respondents do not how a manufacturer or brand name in the reality of variously emerging domestic and import cosmetics for babies. The second, in case of a child haying a fair, sensitive skin or atopy (atopic dermatitis), the respondents are careful in choosing babies cosmetics but in case of a child having a normal skin the older a child grows from a stage of a new-born, a baby and an infant to a primary-school child, the older its mother is, the more respondents use adults' cosmetics in common rather than use cosmetics only for babies. $7.6\%$ of respondents do not use babies' cosmetirs at ail. Especially, in using bathing goods such as a shampoo or a body cleanser, they frequently use adults' cosmetics in common. The third, the qualify is taken into the utmost consideration in purchasing babies' cosmetics. The Quality of imports is trusted and preferred better than that of domestic goods. The cost of purchasing babies cosmetics is less than 10,000 Won. consumers recognize that the price or cosmetics is rather high. The last, the improvement or babies cosmetics is 'the safety of goods', answered by $56.5\%$ of respondents. The respondents are generally not satisfied with babies' cosmetics. So, a baby's skin is threatened by a newly-built house syndrome, the increase of atopic dermatitis, etc., caused by an environmental pollutions, a change of diet and a change of residential life. Under these actual conditions, babies' cosmetics which can protect a delicate and sensitive skin of a baby should be developed immediately. Consumers should have a correct choice with precise recognition and information on a baby's skin and cosmetics and continually use the efficacious and excellent babies' cosmetics to prevent a baby from a skin irritation, and need to show a keen interest in a healthy skin of a baby.

Determining the Authenticity of Labeled Traceability Information by DNA Identity Test for Hanwoo Meats Distributed in Seoul, Korea (DNA 동일성 검사를 통한 서울지역 유통 한우육의 표시 이력정보 진위 판별)

  • Beef traceability systems help prevent the distribution of Hanwoo (Korean native cattle) meat as imported beef. In particular, assigning a traceability number to each cattle can provide all information regarding the purchased Hanwoo meat to the consumers. In the present study, a DNA identity test was conducted on 344 samples of Hanwoo meat from large livestock product stores in Seoul between 2021 and 2022 to determine the authenticity of important label information, such as the traceability number. Traceability number mismatch was confirmed in 45 cases (13.1%). The mismatch rate decreased to 11.3% in 2022 from 14.7% in 2021, and the mismatch rate was higher in the northern region (16.9%) than in the southern region (10.2%). In addition, of the six brands, B and D showed satisfactory traceability system management, whereas E and A showed poor traceability system management, with significant differences (P<0.001). The actual traceability number confirmation rate was only 53.9% among the mismatch samples. However, examination of the authenticity of label information of the samples within the identified range revealed false marking in the order of the traceability number (13.1%), sex (2.9%), slaughterhouse name (2.2%), and grade (1.6%); no false marking of breed (Hanwoo) was noted. To prevent the distribution of erroneously marked livestock products, the authenticity of label information must be determined promptly. Therefore, a legal basis must be established mandating the filling of a daily work sheet, including the traceability number of beef, in partial meat subdivisions. Our findings can be used as reference data to guide the management direction of traceability systems for ensuring transparency in the distribution of livestock products.
