  • The only text that aids in the understanding of Songs of the Dao of Great Gods (大化神道歌詞), which was established by Yun Jin in 1984, is Mok-wun daegyeong (木運大經, The Great Scripture of Wood-Destiny) published by Oh Yeol-gyun in 1976. This scripture includes five songs: Wun-hoe dongbang-ga (運回東方歌, Songs of Destiny-Returning to the East), Gung-eul-ga (弓乙歌, Songs of Gung-eul), Dodeok-sa (道德詞, Morality Poems), Palguae-gugung byeon-yeok-ga (八卦九宮變易歌, Songs on the Changes of the Eight Trigrams and Nine Palaces), and Nakdang-ga (樂堂歌, Songs of the Paradisiacal Lands). Songs of the Dao of Great Gods, which is prone to embracing Daoist characteristics, is meant to be sung upon the realization of the Later World, the ideal earth. This is expressed as spring. In addition, we can easily find key terms such as Sampung-ga (三豊歌), Yangbaek-segye (兩白世界), Gung-eul-ga (弓乙歌), Gunggung-euleul (弓弓乙乙), Yanggung (兩弓), Euleul (乙乙), Gung-eul seonin (弓乙仙人), Samin-ilseok (三人一夕), Yijae-jeonjeon (利在田田), Gung-eul jiri (弓乙之理), Naenggeum-bugeum (冷金浮金), Seokjeong-gon (石井昆), Yangbaek (兩白), Sampung (三豊), and Sodumujok (小頭無足), all of which appear frequently in traditional prophecies and the faiths they have inspired. The precise meaning of these terms has yet to be revealed. Furthermore, Songs of the Dao of Great Gods contains lyrics prophesying that the return of the wood-destiny of the East and emphasizing the destiny of 3-8 wood as based on the Yellow River Chart (河圖). Songs of the Dao of Great Gods, originated the term, the World of Paradisiacal Lands (樂堂世界), and prophesyed that the wood-destiny of the East would return to create a new world that took Korea as its center. The text emphasized wood-destiny, symbolized by spring, and argued that the Dao of Great Gods could be ascetained from the principle of water-producing wood (水生木) found in the Eastern study of changes (易學) as approached by Choi Su-Wun (水雲), the founder of Donghak (東學).

  • The purpose of this article is to investigate the future prospects for establishing the True Donghak phase of Daesoon Thought. The True Donghak refers to 'the future prospect of having a true life, true thinking, and true living' in which enjoying the world in a state of good fortune became a true reality after the death of Suwun, according to faith in Gucheon Sangje. The correlation between "Attending to the Lord of Heaven" in Donghak, and "The Reordering Works of Heaven and Earth" in Daesoon shows the prospect of achieving the Daesoonist transformation into energy to gain true life and re-creation. The correlation between "Nourishing the Lord of Heaven" in Donghak and "Attending to Study and Attending to Law" in Daesoon show the transformation of Daesoon-reason into true thinking and renewing. The correlation between "Humanity is Divine" in Donghak and "The Salvation of Humanity is the Will of Heaven" in Daesoon show transformation into the practice of Daesoon for the true living and renewing. This investigation utilizes the literature review and the generation theory of life-philosophy to examine revelations regarding the conversation between Spirit and Mind. This is the future prospect for the establishing the True Donghak phase of Daesoon thought. It consists of a threefold connection among life, thinking, and living. The "public-centered spirituality of Daesoon Truth" which connects and mediates among people appears in three aspects. Firstly, it is thought to be the vision of the true life through the 'renewal of active, energetic power' bestowed by Gucheon Sangje. Secondly, it is thought to be the vision of true thinking through the "renewal via freedom from delusion". Thirdly, it is thought to be the vision of true living through the "renewal of true mind". To bring about the creation of true Donghak, Gucheon Sangje incarnated to the Korean peninsula instead of Suwun and the salvation of the world salvation now centers on Korea with regards to the threefold connection future prospect. Gucheon Sangje's revelation addresses and solves the postscript problem of Chosun and further establishes a Utopia. Suwun established Donghak but failed later on due to his lankiness. At last the true Donghak has been opened for the future by Gucheon Sangje and Jeongsan's fifty years of religious accomplishments. In the long run, it has been developed further by Woodang's Daesoon Jinrihoe.

  • The newly-developed method for estimating the instream flow, proposed by the authors (1996), was applied to the main channel reach of the Kum River basin in Korea. Performance of the suggested method was tested through the evaluations of the required flow, instream flow, and river-management flow which were estimated at five main reaches with each representative station. The mean drought flow was used as the object flow to evaluate the minimum instream flow for the mid- and large-size rivers. Water quality prediction by using the QUAL2E model was made for both cases that the planned wastewater treatment facilities may and may not be constructed. The required flow for the fish habitat was evaluated for 9 representative fish species. The instream flows required for the riverine aesthetics at Kong-ju and Puyo scenary points, for river navigation at natural channel conditions, and for current and potential recreation activities were evaluated, respectively. The instream flows required for other items are not quantified. On the whole, it is shown that the instream flow to maintain the natural riverine functions such as fish habitat, and riverine aesthetics govern the upstream reaches of the Kum River, and the artificial riverine functions such as conservation of water quality, navigation and recreations govern the middle and downstream reaches. Especially, it is found that the instream flow requirement depends largely upon the construction of wastewater treatment facilities at the Kum River basin.

  • The purpose of this study is to reveal the component characteristics and the channels of distribution for forest products as a fuel that were consumed in Kyeongseong city (Seoul) in 1929, in the middle of the colonial period. The summary of the results are as follows; (1) though the average consumption of forest products consumed as a fuel per household in Kyeongseong city was slightly less than one-third as much forest products as fuel consumed in other counties of Kyeongki province, but due to the high heat capacity, the amount of fuelwood and charcoal consumption was much higher than leaf and grass consumption; (2) the largest supply areas of forest products for fuel were the riverside of Kangwon province and Kyeonggi province in which the waterways were available. They supplied 42.6% of total consumption, and the other supply areas were the northern part of Kyeonggi province, etc. (29.5%) where railroads were handy, and the suburbs of Kyeongseong City (27.9%) by roads; (3) the transportation areas using the Han River were divided into two parts of Ttook island (43.0%) and former Yongsan and Mapo (45.6%), but the volume of transportation by railroad was centralized in Kyeongseong Station, which accounted for 72.2% of total volume of transportation by rail; (4) the most of the forest products consumed for fuel in Kyeongseoung city were sold in temporary fuelwood markets, rather than permanent and regular markets.

  • Purpose: Average of the maximum accommodation amplitude of myopia in different generation, early 20's and early 40's were compared according to gender, degree of myopia. Methods: Maximum amplitude of accommodation for each 100 patients of early 20's and 40's were measured with push-up method. Maximum amplitude of accommodation expectations based on Hofstetter formula were classified into three groups of under, normal and excess. Results: The average of amplitude of accommodation was 9.77~11.64 D $(10.77{\pm}2.49D)$ in early 20's and 4.67~6.21 D $(5.34{\pm}1.28D)$ in early 40's. In early 20's, minimum expectations of amplitude of accommodation for under, normal and excess groups were 20%, 75%, and 5%, repectively. In early 40's, excess and under groups were 5% and 18%, repectively, but there was no excess group. Conclusions: According to increasing age, amplitude of accommodation of both age groups showed decreased, and no significant difference was found in degree of myopia with gender. Difference between mean of expected accommodation amplitude and maximum of accommodation amplitude was compared, and it was found that maximum of accommodation amplitude of 20's was smaller than mean of expected accommodation. From the result, it was expected that people in early 20's who have more working times might have festinated accommodative insufficiency than 40's.

  • Purpose: To evaluate the changes of refractive power when worn soft contact lenses were temporarily removed. Methods: 91 soft contact lens wearers (15 males and 76 females; total 182 eyes) from 17 to 39 years of age (average: $24{\pm}4.8$ years) were participated. Objective and subjective refraction, and corneal radius were measured at 0, 30, 60 and 90 min after lens removal. The changes in refractive power were evaluated between measurements over time. The other parameters such as types of lenses, fitting and wearing conditions were also assessed. Results: Objective refraction, subjective refraction and corneal radius were significantly changed according to measured time (p<0.0001). A moderate myopic shifts was observed at the beginning (30 min after lens removal) and a slight myopic shift at the late of measurement (60 min to 90 min after lens removal). There are no significant differences between lens types, fitting states, wearing time, wearing days and sleeping time in the previous day. However, there was significant interaction in changes for corneal radius between measuring time and lens type (p=0.017), fitting state (p=0.019), and sleeping time prior to the test (p=0.010). Conclusions: Time to reach refractive and corneal radius stability after contact lens removal revealed at least more than 60 min, regardless of types of lenses, fitting and wearing conditions. Therefore, refraction for correction should be performed after waiting for more than that time as possible.

  • The lime-soil mixture on tomb barrier (LSMB) is a type of tomb in Joseon Dynasty, which made with so-called 'Sammul' (three material compound) that mixture of lime, fine sand and yellow ocher. This study divided the tombs of the Gungri Site from Joseon Dynasty with layered wall and integrated wall according to the manufacturing types, and investigated on the basis of analysis to material characteristics and making techniques. Analytical samples were classified with lime-soil mixtures and soils, and interpreted the mixing characteristics of Sammul based on types of tomb barrier. The tomb barrier which is directly effect to control the inner environment was made with high content of lime. But the finishing or bottom layer were made with low content of lime. Overall the LSMB with integrated wall has higher content of lime and physical property than the LSMB with layered wall. The soil which was compounded as a Sammul and collected near the Gungri Site had similar with mineralogical and geochemical characteristics. Therefore, it is presumed that the fine sand and yellow ocher that made as a Sammul, were used with soil that was distributed around the site. Meanwhile, large scale limestone quarry is distributed near the site. Especially, Gungri Site has a possibility of material supply through water transport, due to the sea route from Asan bay is connected near the site. Thus, there is the possibility of transportation of lime materials from nearby quarry.

  • This research aims to introduce the theoretical basis of the studies of tourism resources, by review the research trends of tourism resources in the geography field. The geographical approaches to tourism resouces can be subdicided into 3 categories according to the subject. First, the classification of tourism resource types and the approach on the spatial distribution may be enumerated. This subject has been the object of the most interest and discussion to the geographers for tourism up to now. And from the viewpoint of contents, it has been developed by classifying the types of tourism resoures, which is based on the establishment of the range and standard of tourism resources and the spatial classification of types based on the distribution feature of the area. Second, the approach about cognition, preference and interpretation on the tourism resources as the background to induce tourism phenomenon and decide the tourism destination. Judging from the fact that most of this subject is starting from the behavioural study and that the right understanding and interpretation of tourism resource is the important factor to decide the preference degree of tourists, we have to have much interest about the field of tourism geoaraphy. Third, the development of tourism resources which is showing the active study recently and its influence and effect attendant upon it may be enumerated. Today, as the economic value of tourism is become important internationally, tourism resources are recognized as the important factor to induce the industrialization of tourism. And in the series of analytical studies related to it the interest has been transferred from the economic benefit analysis attendant upon tourism development including tourism resource and to the cultural, educational, environmental and psychological influence, etc. As the result of composite examination, for the geographical studies about tourism resources, the spatial scale and the contents are being subdivided and specialized. And in the side of subject and method of study, it is developing into the positive study based on the concrete data and the measuring and analytical frame.

  • Purpose: One of the critical aspects on dispensing glasses is to match the center of pupils to the optical center of lenses as the mismatched glasses are able to induce uncomfortable effects called prism which has been known to induce phoria, a main cause for asthenopia in many cases. Therefore, we investigated the induced prism occurred by mismatching centers between the center of pupils and the optical center of lenses. Methods: In this study, total 103 subjects were examined whether the center of pupils and the optical center of lenses are matched in horizontal and vertical directions, and then, the data was categorized into 4 groups based on the structural components of glasses. Total amount of prism was compared to show the effect of the glasses frame on the prism induction, and the value of measured prism was compared with the German RAL-RG 915 regulations. Results: The results in respect to the horizontal component showed that the induced prism was not found in 10.7% of total subjects. 73.8% of total subjects were influenced by induced prism, the range of prism was in a tolerance level. However, the 15.5% of total subjects seemed to be influenced by prism which is out of the criterion of tolerance. In case of vertical component, 23.3% of total subjects showed no effects of prism while early adopting glasses, 54.4% of total subjects showed a little prism effect within the criterion of tolerance, and 22.3% of total subjects showed the prism effect out of the tolerance range. This data indicates that group A and B that are less likely adjustable by fitting induce more prism than group C and D in horizontal and vertical components. Conclusions: In higher refractive error condition, it was found that aligning the optical center of lenses with the center of pupils by pre-fitting of glasses frame minimized prism induction in horizontal and vertical components, which ameliorates ocular fatigue. Therefore, appropriate optometric dispensing through fitting by opticians and precise design about monocular PD and monocular Oh are necessary to improve visual perception.
