  • This study aims to design mathematics-integrated classes that cultivate artificial intelligence (AI) thinking and to analyze students' AI thinking within these classes. To do this, four classes were designed through the integration of the AI4K12 Initiative's AI Big Ideas with the 2015 revised elementary mathematics curriculum. Implementation of three classes took place with 5th and 6th grade elementary school students. Leveraging the computational thinking taxonomy and the AI thinking components, a comprehensive framework for analyzing of AI thinking was established. Using this framework, analysis of students' AI thinking during these classes was conducted based on classroom discourse and supplementary worksheets. The results of the analysis were peer-reviewed by two researchers. The research findings affirm the potential of mathematics-integrated classes in nurturing students' AI thinking and underscore the viability of AI education for elementary school students. The classes, based on AI Big Ideas, facilitated elementary students' understanding of AI concepts and principles, enhanced their grasp of mathematical content elements, and reinforced mathematical process aspects. Furthermore, through activities that maintain structural consistency with previous problem-solving methods while applying them to new problems, the potential for the transfer of AI thinking was evidenced.

  • This study aims to look into the characteristics of argumentation in the task context of 'Monty Hall problem' at a high school probability class. As a result of an analysis of classroom discourses on the argumentation between teachers and second-year students in one upper level class in high school using Toulmin's argument pattern, it was found that it would be important to create a task context and a safe classroom culture in which the students could ask questions and refute them in order to make it an argument-centered discourse community. In addition, through the argumentation of solving complex problems together, the students could be further engaged in the class, and the actual empirical context enriched the understanding of concepts. However, reasoning in argumentation was mostly not a statistical one, but a mathematical one centered around probability problem-solving. Through these results of the study, it was noted that the teachers should help the students actively participate in argumentation through the task context and question, and an understanding of a statistical reasoning of interpreting the context would be necessary in order to induce their thinking and reasoning about probability and statistics.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the possibility of character education in the middle school home economics program: by extracting learning factors that can cultivate gratitude disposition from the eighth grade in the unit of 'clothing life' of middle school HE text, developing five teaching-learning lesson plans and learning materials, and applying them in classrooms to see any changes in gratitude disposition standards before and after its application. Five teaching-learning lesson plans for the cultivation of gratitude disposition were developed, and completed after three experts in home economics verified their validity and revised them. From June 1, 2010 to June 30, 2010, five classes were to 210 grade students at a Gyeongbuk Junior School, and dispositions were investigated before and after the classes. Gratitude disposition standards used GQ-6, like McCullough, and for before-and-after-inspection comparison, t-test and analysis of open-ended questionnaires were carried out. The results proved the instruction effective. Before the class for the cultivation of gratitude disposition, students had a gratitude disposition average of 2.87(out of 5). After the class, the average was 3.35, which shows that students had improved considerably. Also, in analysis of a open-ended questionnaire, it was said that the class had been provided the opportunity to think about the value of nature and neighbors and that the class content reminded them about appreciation. In conclusion, for the character education in other areas of middle school home economics, teaching-learning lesson plans development must be attained to further this character education program.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest some direction to support learning of students in college of engineering. It results from the assumption that engineering education accreditation should come with assessment of the educational process. To analyze the learning process, this study analyzed 5 categories - involvement in and out of instruction, faculty-student interaction, teaching-learning outcomes, and the system of student support. The Research method was questionnaire, and T-test and hierarchical linear model were used. The major findings are as follows. Major-level of satisfaction in teaching-learning and optional-level of satisfaction in teaching-learning are good. But the degree of self-directed learning activities and student-faculty interaction is low, and writing attitude and learning outcomes are not good. Student-faculty interaction, high-order thinking activities and active involvement have a good influence on learning outcomes. So this study suggests to enhance active involvement in instruction, high-order thinking activities, writing skills, and interaction with faculty for the improvement of quality of higher education.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand how a teacher's teaching can be changed while he or she teaches the same contents in different classes. The qualitative research method was used in this study. Data were collected from classroom observations, several in-depth interviews, and stimulated-recall interviews after each class. All the data were transcribed and analyzed interpretively, and then, the results of the analysis were checked by each participating teacher. The results are as follows: First, changes appeared in each class in terms of the teaching items, tools, sequence, and time, even though the same teacher taught the same contents. It showed that the teacher's teaching practice changed immediately and intuitively in class. Second, teachers tried to implement "exploratory teaching" or "move-testing teaching" to address the emerging problems during their teaching. They then reflected on and modified their own teaching. This type of change, which happened during the teaching practice, can be an example of "Reflection-in-practice." Thus, the results of this study can provide helpful insights into how teachers might adapt and reflect in their teaching. It suggests that teachers need to recognize their subconscious teaching changes and learn "Reflection-in-practice."

  • The purpose of this study is restructuring the template to apply the 'Backward design' for Home Economics Instruction. This study reviewed the theory of Wiggins and McTighe, the advocates of backward design, and examined the template for version 2.0 of Wiggins and McTighe (2011). In addition, This study analyzed various previous researches using backward design, and drew implications for template restructuring for applying backward design on Home Economics Instruction. In addition, the validity of the template was verified through facial validity through the expert council. Through this process, the final 5 stages (1. Curriculum Analysis → 2. Instructional Design (Learning Experience Design ↔ Evaluation Design (Performance Task Planning) → 3. Instruction Flow → 4. Class guide for each class → 5. Evaluation record, and feedback)suggested templates for applying backward design. Future research will use the restructured assumptions and templates to develop teaching materials in the Home Economics areas of the 2015 revised curriculum. In future research, field research should be carried out on how the Home Economics instruction with backward design affects learners.
