A qualitative study on educational usefulness and problems of smartpad-based instruction in elementary school (초등학교 스마트패드 활용수업의 교육적 유용성과 문제점에 관한 질적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the educational usefulness, problems of smartpad-based instruction in elementary school based on qualitative research. To accomplish the purpose of the study, D elementary school in metropolitan area, two classes of digital textbook model school for seven years, were selected as the classes for observation. Six fourth and fifth graders and their teachers were interviewed and their 10 lessons were used for analyzing teaching and learning activities in smartpad-based instruction. The results of the study, 'Facilitating collaboration and interaction', 'effective use of various resource and SNS', 'improving concentrativeness', 'shortening waiting time' were identified as main educational usefulness. 'Lack of learning supporting tools', 'focusing on function rather than learning contents', 'low learning effectiveness', 'interference of flow' were presented as problems in using smartpad in classroom. Finally, some practical tasks for effective application of smartpad-based instruction were recommended.

What should we do with pre-instructional conceptual frameworks? : A suggestion for instructional strategy (수업전 개념구조를 고려한 수업방법에 관한 연구)

  • 어떤 현상에 대한 학생들의 수업전 개념구조가 과학자들의 그것과 다를때 이 수업전개념을 간단한 정성적인 퀴즈를 통하여 학생 스스로 인식하게 하고 실험 또는 관찰을 통하여 학생 자신의 수업전개념 보다는 과학자들의 개념이 실험결과를 더 잘 설명할 수 있다는 것을 깨닫게 함으로써 학생들의 수업전 개념구조를 변화시키려는 교수모델을 고안하여 그 효과를 검토하였다. 고등학교 1학년 남학생 115 명(실험집단 58명, 비교집단 57명)과 고등학교 2학년 여학생 120명(실험집단 59명, 비교집단 61명)을 대상으로 뉴우턴 제2법칙에 대한 학습에 적용하고 2주후에 뉴우턴 제2법칙에 관한 시험(13문항)을 실시하였다. 그 결과, 퀴즈에 사용한 것과 유사한 상황을 다룬 문제에서는 실험집단의 성적이 비교집단의 성적보다 유의하게 높았다. 그러나, 같은 개념을 다루나 새로운 상황의 문제에서는 그 효과가 유의한 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 한가지 개념이 여러가지 새로운 상황속에 나타날때 학생들에게 이미 친숙한 상황과 새로운 상황사이의 유사점을 강조하며 위의 교수법을 계속하여 사용한다면 학생들의 뿌리깊이 밝힌 수업전 개념구조를 변화시킬 수 있으리라 사료된다. 위의 교수법은 학생들이 자신의 수업전 개념구조를 명확히 인식하고 그 불합리함을 깨달아야 하므로 자신의 수업전 개념구조에 근거하여 어떤 결과를 예측할 수 있는 예측논리(Expectation or biconditional Reasoning)가 형성된 이후의 학생들에게만 효과가 있으리라 가정하였으나 교수방법과 예측논리 사이에 유의한 상호작용효과(interaction offect)는 나타나지 않았다. 다만 여학생의 경우에서만 학생들에게 새로운 상황의 문제에서도 예측논리를 이미 형성한 실험집단의 평균이 이에 상응하는 비교집단의 평균보다 높았다. 이것은 남학생과 여학생을 지도한 교사의 교수경력과 학생들의 수업전 개념구조에 대한 교사의 인식정도에 큰 차이가 있었음을 고려할 때, 위의 수업방법을 사용하는 데 있어 교사가 학생들의 수업전 개념구조가 학생들의 개념획득에 얼마나 커다란 영향을 끼치는가에 대해 인식하는 것이 중요한 요인임을 시사한다.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of the film in gender equality education classes for elementary school students. For this study an experiment was conducted with students to gender equality education lessons in the 5th grade of Seongwhan elementary school in Cheonan. It was to observe whether the student's gender consciousness changes with the same questionnaire in the starting lesson and the last lesson of gender equality education. Observations of gender equality education with film are very effective for elementary school students. Therefore, this paper is to share the following results. First, this study is a model of teaching gender equality education through film that would be proposed. Second, using film gender equality education lessons will be conducted in a real elementary school. The satisfaction of students will be examined. Third, using film to demonstrate the effectiveness of gender equality classes would be. Finally, the use of film in teaching of gender equality according to the curriculum would be proposed.

An Analysis on the Lingual Metaphors and Gestures Shown in the Math Class at Elementary School (초등 수학 수업 상황에서 나타나는 언어적 은유와 제스처 분석)

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the cases related to the lingual and non-lingual metaphors used in the math class at elementary school and consider the values of metaphors as a teaching method for the subject of mathematics. Throughout this study, teachers' gestures are analyzed as lingual and non-lingual metaphors shown between teachers and students in the class for the topic of the inverse proportion in quartic equations for direct and inverse proportions in Chapter 7 for the first semester of the 6th grade at elementary school in terms of the amended curriculum for the year of 2007. According to the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that there are mechanical and hypothetical movement metaphors in the mathematical metaphors observed in this study. Also, in terms of gestures, iconic, metaphoric and deixis gestures are found. Such metaphors seem to be evenly distributed throughout the math class and expressed in various forms. Based on the results of the analysis, the educational meaning given by the utilization of metaphors is considered for the math class.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceptions and perspectives on meanings and use of manipulatives in mathematics lessons. For the investigation, the researcher reviewed related literature and analyzed the perceptions of preservice teachers on the meanings and use of manipulatives in mathematics lessons. The participants were 75 preservice elementary school teachers who took a teaching practice course at the 1st or the 2nd semester in 2015. These preservice teachers observed mathematics lessons for two weeks during the student teaching periods. They were requested to observed the use of manipulatives in mathematics lessons and wrote about their ideas on the meanings and use of manipulatives. Result of the research was that the perceptions on the meanings and use of manipulatives from the preservice teachers' perspectives are as follows. Manipulatives in mathematics lessons were self-made or pre-made manufactures. The using time of manipulatives during lessons varies, and the teachers provide the manipulatives with contexts. Providing in-depth observation during a teaching practice course is allowed opportunities for preservice teachers to reflect their mathematics teaching and learning methods in the classroom.

A Case Study on the Use of Mentoring as a Method of Improving Novice Teachers' Teaching Professionalism in Secondary Science-Gifted Education (중등 과학영재교육에서 초임 교사의 수업 전문성 제고 전략으로써의 멘토링 적용 사례연구)

  • As a case study on the use of mentoring as a method of improving novice teachers' teaching professionalism in secondary science-gifted education, this study investigated the characteristics of mentoring science instructions for science-gifted students at the plan, performance, evaluation, and post-mentoring stages of the classes. One mentor and two mentees were selected, and mentoring in each mentee's instructions was conducted during nine classes over three times. We observed the total classes, and analyzed taped videos, the materials, the transcripts for mentoring and in-depth interviews, and field notes. The analyses of the results indicated that the characteristics of mentoring instructions, at the planning stage of the classes, exhibited the construction of more systematic classes, the escape from the schema that science instructions for science-gifted students were instructions using somewhat difficult experiments and the uses of diverse teaching strategies, the influence of the psychological burdens on developing science-gifted education programs, and the increase of the time preparing the classes. At the performance stage of the classes, the characteristics included the improvement in the quality of the classes, the influence of the psychological burdens on teaching the classes, and the inducements of some confusion on performing them. At the evaluation stage of the classes, the characteristics included the provision of the opportunities in deeply reflecting my own classes, and the provision of the practical power for improving the classes. Finally, the characteristics at the postmentoring stage could be attributed to the increase of mentees' self-confidence about their instructions and some development of mentors' teaching professionalism/mentoring skills.

Changes of the Reflection Level of Elementary School Teachers Experienced a Self-review in Science Class (과학수업 자기비평 과정에서 나타난 초등교사의 반성 수준의 변화)

  • The goal of this study were to look into the elementary school teacher's experience in the self-review of science class and analyze the changes of reflection level revealed in it. This study was a qualitative example research where two elementary school teachers participated and performed self-review via reflective writings regarding their science classes. Both teachers showed changes in aspect and frequency of review to a certain extend by reflective writings based on their class experience and the educational settings they are at. They all revealed a high level of changes on reflection by the feedback from the class reviews. Affirmative changes of cognition on science class and the perception of factors affecting the practice of the class such as understanding students, class observation of the peer teachers et al. contributed to the elevation of reflection level by continuously adjusting and complementing the practical knowledge through the reflection during or after the class.

Prospective Teachers' Analysis and Conception of Elementary Mathematics Instruction (예비 교사의 초등 수학 수업 분석과 인식)

  • One of the main purposes in prospective elementary teacher education is to prepare for teaching each subject matter. For this purpose, it is necessary to explore how prospective teachers may analyze elementary mathematics instruction and they perceive their analytic foci. This study probed in what ways prospective teachers analyzed elementary mathematics instruction using two video cases. The results of this study showed that prospective teachers focused mainly on instructional strategies, specifically with regard to whether such strategies would be adequate both for mathematical content to be taught and for students' characteristics. They also focused on the effective use of instructional materials as well as the case teacher's adequate feedback. Prospective teachers claimed to have analytic foci not only on the degree of attainment of instructional purposes but also on students' responses and interest. Given this result, this paper includes several issues related to help prospective teachers prepare for better teaching.

Analysis on Gifted Class in Mathematics using Flanders Category System (Flanders 언어상호작용 분석법을 활용한 수학영재 수업 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide useful information for improving interaction between teacher and student by analysing gifted class in mathematics with the Flanders Category System. Research questions are as follow. In gifted class in mathematics, How is the result of analysis regarding interactions between the teacher and students, according to 1) Flanders' Coding system? 2) Flanders' language pattern? 3) Flanders' Index system? For this, 3 gifted classes in mathematics were recorded by video camera and analyzed by Advanced Flanders(AF) analysis program version 3.54. Results are as follow. 1) Code Category Analysis mostly consists of lecture, voluntary speaking and chaos, silence work. 2) Most class patterns are not in accordance with effective class pattern models. So teacher needs to accept student's opinion actively and give appropriate feedback. 3) In Indices Results, revised I/d ratio, teacher's question ratio, student's speaking ratio, Student question and wide answer ratio are higher than analysis standard, indirect ratio is lower than analysis standard.

The Analysis of Cognitive and Affective Effects on the CT-CPS Instructional Model for the Software Education Class in Middle School (중등 소프트웨어 수업에서 컴퓨팅 사고력 기반 창의적 문제해결(CT-CPS) 수업모형의 인지적·정의적 효과성 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the effectiveness of a CT-CPS(Computational Thinking-based Creative Problem Solving) instructional model on the cognitive and the affective area of middle school students' software class. To achieve our goal, we explored theoretical background and designed a lesson plan based on CT-CPS instructional model. Then we analyzed our experimental results after applying the lesson plan to middle school students. We performed our experiment to an experimental group by using our CT-CPS instructional model-based lesson plans, and we carried out three pre and post tests about cognitive and affective area, i.e. creative problem solving ability, meta cognition and motivation of learning. As a result, most of the test factors were statistically improved, so the effectiveness of the CT-CPS instructional model on the cognitive and the affective area of middle school students' software class was verified.
