  • Robotic assisted surgery in adult patient with congenital ventricular septal defect Since December in 2005, we have done minimally invasive surgeries in selected cases of mitral valve diseases, tricuspid valve diseases, atrial septal defects and atrial fibrillations with the $AESOP^{TM}$ robotic arm. We have had a better surgical view and skill, according to accumulation of the experience of this procedure. Recently, we performed robotic assisted surgery in a 47-year-old female with congenital perimembranous ventricular septal defect.

Development Trends and Use Cases of Medical Service Robots: Focused on Logistics, Guidance, and Drug Processing Robots (의료서비스 로봇의 개발 동향 및 활용 사례: 물류, 안내, 약제처리 로봇을 중심으로)

  • Medical service robots are variously defined and classified by researchers and related government departments, but surgical robots and rehabilitation robots are commonly included in medical service robots, and except for these, the robots are classified as other medical service robots. In this study, domestic and foreign development trends and use cases were considered, focusing on logistics, guidance, and drug processing robots among other medical service robots. Logistics and guidance robots were developed quite a lot in Korea and completed a pilot project, or are being commercialized in hospitals, and exported. However, although the drug prcocessing robots was developed in Korea, the robot being use in the hospital was an imported. In order to expand and activate the robot market, systematic follow-up studies such as demand prediction studies are needed.

  • This paper presents a computer-aided simulation and robotic-assisted execution technology of external fixation method to achieve fracture reduction and deformity correction in long bones. Combining the kinematic analysis with a graphic model of the tibia and the fixator allowed 3D simulation and visualization of the adjustments required to reduce fracture or correct bone deformity as a pre-operative planning tool. The developed robot model provided accurate deformity correction with small residual deformity based on the results of the planning. By incorporating the robot model with image-guided system and computer-aided planning, the integrated system could be useful for computer-aided pre-operative planning and robotic-assisted execution in fracture treatment and bone deformity surgery.

Effects of pain, sleep and self-care behavior in patients underwent robotic minimally invasive cardiac surgeries (로봇을 이용한 심장수술이 환자의 통증, 수면 및 자가간호수행에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to know the difference in pain, sleep, self-care behavior in patients performed by sternotomy and robotic minimally invasive cardiac surgeries. The participants were 64 patients with sternotomy and 64 patients with minimal thoracotomy in heart valve surgeries at a tertiary hospital in Seoul. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2$ test, paired t-test. with SPSS/WIN(22.0). The participants with minimally invasive thoracotomy felt severe pain than the patients with thoracotomy at post operation day 2 & 5. The severe pain site were the surgical site in both groups. The participants with sternotomy had better sleep than minimally invasive thoracotomy patients. Self-care behavior was higher in the minimally invasive thoracotomy group. Therefore, despite the many advantages of robotic surgery such as rapid recovery and shortening of length of stay in hospital, accurate pain assessment and application of differentiated protocols are needed for the management of pain in the patients with robotic minimally invasive cardiac surgeries. In addition, a structured education program intervention is needed to improve comfort by considering gender, age, and method of operation.
