Comparative Investigation of Convective Heat Transfer Coefficients for Analyzing Compressed Hydrogen Fueling Process (압축 수소 충전 공정 해석을 위한 대류 열전달 계수 비교 분석)

  • Commercial hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are charged by compressing gaseous hydrogen to high pressure and storing it in a storage tank in the vehicle. This process causes the temperature of the gas to rise, to ensure the safety to storage tanks, the temperature is limited. Therefore, a heat transfer model is needed to explain this temperature rise. The heat transfer model includes the convective heat transfer phenomenon, and accurate estimation is required. In this study, the convective heat transfer coefficient in the hydrogen fueling process was calculated and compared using various correlation equations considering physical phenomena. The hydrogen fueling process was classified into the fueling line from the dispenser to the tank inlet and the storage tank in the vehicle, and the convective heat transfer coefficients were estimated according to process parameters such as mass flow rate, diameter, temperature and pressure. As a result, in the case of the inside of the filling line, the convective heat transfer coefficient was about 1000 times larger than that of the inside of the storage tank, and in the case of the outside of the filling line, the convective heat transfer coefficient was about 3 times larger than that of the outside of the storage tank. Finally, as a result of a comprehensive analysis of convective heat transfer coefficients in each process, it was found that outside the storage tank was lowest in the entire hydrogen fueling process, thus dominated the heat transfer phenomenon.

  • The analysis of temperature behavior of a hydrogen tank during refueling is of significance to clarify the safety of the compressed hydrogen storage in vehicles since the temperature at a tank rises with inflow of hydrogen. A mass balance and an energy balance were combined to obtain analytical model for temperature change during the hydrogen refueling. The equation was coupled to Peng-Robinson-Gasem (PRG) equation of state (EOS) for hydrogen. The PRG EOS was adopted after comparison with other four different cubic EOSs. A parameter of the model was determined to fit data from experiments of various inlet flow rates and temperatures. The temperature and pressure change with refueling time were obtained by the developed model. The calculation results revealed that the extent of precooling was more effective than the flow rate control.

Thermophilic Hydrogen Production from Microbial Consortia Using PVDF Membrane Bioreactor (PVDF 여과막 생물막 반응기를 이용한 혐기 세균 복합체의 고온 수소생산)

  • 여과막 생물반응기를 이용하여 $60^{\circ}C$에서 혐기 세균 복합체가 포도당으로부터 수소를 생산할 수 있는 최적조건을 연구하였다. 여과막 생물반응기는 연속교반 탱크반응기와 외부에 장착된 PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) 중공사막 여과장치로 구성되었다. 접종슬러지는 하수처리장 소화 슬러지조에서 얻었고, 포자형성 수소생산 미생물을 얻기 위해 $90^{\circ}C$에서 20분 간 열처리하였다. 16S rRNA PCR-DGGE(polymer chain reaction-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis) 분석을 통해 열처리 전후의 미생물상 변화를 조사하였다. 열처리 후 DGGE 밴드의 수는 감소하였고, 주요 밴드는 Clostridium perfringens와 유사한 염기서열을 나타내었다. 운전 기간 동안 바이오가스 내 수소함량은 60%(v/v)를 유지하였고, 메탄은 검출되지 않았다. 연속교반 탱크반응기를 여과막 없이 수력학적 체류 4시간에서 운전하였을 때 공급된 포도당의 95.0%가 제거되었고, 이때 균체농도 및 수소생산속도는 각각 1.35 g cell/L 및 7.4 L $H_2$/L/day이었다. 동일한 체류시간에서 PVDF중공사막 여과장치를 장착하여 연속교반 탱크반응기를 운전하였을 때, 균체농도는 1.62 g cel/L로 증가하였고 높은 포도당 제거율(99.5%) 및 수소생산속도(8.8 L $H_2$/L/day)가 관찰되었다. 40 nm 및 100 nm의 공극크기를 가진 여과막은 균체농도 및 수소생산 측면에서 유사한 성능을 나타내었다. 여과막 생물반응기는 여과막의 반복적인 세척을 통해 30일 이상 안정적으로 운전될 수 있었다.

  • For carbon neutrality, interest in R&D and infrastructure construction for hydrogen energy, an eco-friendly energy source, is growing worldwide. In particular, for hydrogen stations installed in downtown areas, underground hydrogen infrastructure are being considered to increase a safety distance from hydrogen tank explosions to adjacent structures. In order to design an appropriate location and depth of the underground hydrogen infrastructure, it is necessary to evaluate the impact of the explosion of the underground hydrogen infrastructure on adjacent structures. In this paper, a numerical model was developed to analyze the effect of the underground hydrogen infrastructure explosion on adjacent structures, and the over pressure of the hydrogen tank was evaluated using the equivalent TNT (Trinitrotoluene) model. In addition, parametric analysis was performed to estimate the stability of adjacent structures according to the construction conditions of the underground hydrogen infrastructure.

  • 본 논문은 슬로싱(Sloshing) 거동에 놓인 극저온 액체수소 화물창의 BOG 예측을 위한 CFD 해석 절차를 다루고 있다. 특히, 적재율(Filling Ratio)에 따라 달라지는 열 유입과 그에 따른 액체수소의 기화 경향을 파악하기 위한 목적으로 수행되었다. 액체수소와 기체수소의 혼재에 의한 다상 열유동(Multiphase-Thermal flow) 특성을 반영하고 유동에 따른 강제 대류 현상을 열유속에 반영하기 위한 CFD 해석을 수행하였다. 다상 유동 모델의 정확성을 검증하기 위하여 슬로싱 실험의 압력 계측 값과 해석의 압력 값 및 자유수면(Free surface) 형상을 비교하였다. 소형 C-Type 독립형 액화수소 탱크를 대상으로 슬로싱 유동과 BOG 발생을 수치적으로 예측하였다. 해석 과정에서 VOF(Volume of fraction) 모델과 Eulerian 모델을 모두 적용하여, 액체수소에 유입되는 열 유속(Heat flux)의 예측 정확성을 비교하였다. 슬로싱 유무에 따라 액체수소에 유입되는 열 유속을 비교하여 슬로싱 유동의 포함 여부에 따른 BOG 발생량의 변화를 제시하였으며, 최종적으로 액체수소의 충전율(Filling ratio) 별로 BOG 발생량의 경향성을 제시하였다.

  • In order to efficiently control boil-off rate of a liquefied hydrogen tank, the important thing is to maintain an appropriate vacuum level. however, compared to small and medium-sized storage tank, it is very difficult to create and maintain vacuum in large-capacity storage tanks. In this study, we aim to determine the target level of future large-capacity storage tank technology development and secure basic data on performance test methods by analyzing the corelation between evaporation gas and thermal conductivity of liquefied hydrogen storage tanks.

  • It is not easy to refuel quickly and safely with 70 MPa hydrogen. This is because the temperature in the vehicle tank rises sharply due to Joule-Thomson effect, etc. Thus protocols such as SAE J2601 in the United States and JPEC-S 0003 in Japan were established. However, they have the problem of over-complexity and lack of versatility by setting the preconditions for hot and cold cases and introducing a number of look-up tables. This study was conducted with the ultimate goal of developing new protocols based on complete real-time communication. Thermodynamic models were made and programs were developed for hydrogen refueling simulations. Simulation results confirmed that there are five parameters in the influencing factors of the hydrogen refueling protocol.

A basic study on explosion pressure of hydrogen tank for hydrogen fueled vehicles in road tunnels (도로터널에서 수소 연료차 수소탱크 폭발시 폭발압력에 대한 기초적 연구)

  • Hydrogen fuel is emerging as an new energy source to replace fossil fuels in that it can solve environmental pollution problems and reduce energy imbalance and cost. Since hydrogen is eco-friendly but highly explosive, there is a high concern about fire and explosion accidents of hydrogen fueled vehicles. In particular, in semi-enclosed spaces such as tunnels, the risk is predicted to increase. Therefore, this study was conducted on the applicability of the equivalent TNT model and the numerical analysis method to evaluate the hydrogen explosion pressure in the tunnel. In comparison and review of the explosion pressure of 6 equivalent TNT models and Weyandt's experimental results, the Henrych equation was found to be the closest with a deviation of 13.6%. As a result of examining the effect of hydrogen tank capacity (52, 72, 156 L) and tunnel cross-section (40.5, 54, 72, 95 m2) on the explosion pressure using numerical analysis, the explosion pressure wave in the tunnel initially it propagates in a hemispherical shape as in open space. Furthermore, when it passes the certain distance it is transformed a plane wave and propagates at a very gradual decay rate. The Henrych equation agrees well with the numerical analysis results in the section where the explosion pressure is rapidly decreasing, but it is significantly underestimated after the explosion pressure wave is transformed into a plane wave. In case of same hydrogen tank capacity, an explosion pressure decreases as the tunnel cross-sectional area increases, and in case of the same cross-sectional area, the explosion pressure increases by about 2.5 times if the hydrogen tank capacity increases from 52 L to 156 L. As a result of the evaluation of the limiting distance affecting the human body, when a 52 L hydrogen tank explodes, the limiting distance to death was estimated to be about 3 m, and the limiting distance to serious injury was estimated to be 28.5~35.8 m.

  • If the hydrogen industry is activated, the introduction of C-type and pressurized liquefied hydrogen (LH2) tank suitable for small and medium-sized transp- ortation and storage will be given priority in the future. Therefore in this paper, the behavior for the LH2 property changes and boil-off gas (BOG) treatment of the C-type cargo tank through voyage of the LH2 carrier and pressurized tank of the LH2 receiving terminal were analyzed through computational simulations by making assumptions about the carrier operation and unloading conditions.
