A New Record of Parasitoid Wasp Schizoprymnus terebralis (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) from Korea (한국산 미기록 기생벌 Schizoprymnus terebralis (벌목: 고치벌과)에 대한 보고)

  • Schizoprymnus terebralis ($Snofl{\acute{a}}k$, 1953) in the Helconinae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) is reported for the first time in Korea. Redescription, diagnosis, host information and illustrations are provided.

Complimentary Assessment for Conserving Vegetation on Protected Areas in South Korea (보호지역의 식물종 보전 상보성 평가)

  • The number of protected areas has been steadily increased in Korea to achieve Aichi Target 11, and there are studies on potential protected areas that required additional designation. However, there has been an insufficient assessment of the complementarity of protected areas to conserve biodiversity effectively. This study identified the potential habitat areas using the species distribution model for plant species from the 3rd National Ecosystem Survey and compared the plant species abundance in the existing protected area and the potential protected areas using the similarity indices, such as the Jaccard index, Sorenson index, and Bray-Curtis index. As a result, we found that the complementarity of the existing protected areas and most potential protected areas were low, leading to the preservation of similar plant species. Only the buffer zone for Korea National Arboretum had high complementarity and thus is important to conserve some species with the other protected areas. This study confirmed that it was necessary to select additional protected areas outside the existing or potential protected areas to protect plant species with a low inclusion ratio of potential habitats within the protected area. This study is significant because it identified the ecological representativeness of each protected area to examine if the individual protected area can conserve unique and various species and proposed a method of finding candidate areas for additional conservation spatially. The findings of this study can be a valuable reference for the qualitative improvement of protected areas through the complementarity assessments, including animals and the effectiveness assessment study of protected areas using the National Ecosystem Survey data in the future.

Forest Vegetation Structure of Kongju National University Forests(Seokjangri-dong) (공주대학교 학술림(석장리동 일대)의 산림식생구조)

  • The study investigated the forest vegetation structure of Kongju National University Forests in the vicinity of Seokjangri-dong to provide the information needed for efficient use and management. It conducted a Z-M phytosociological vegetation survey in 60 quadrate plots in August 2019 and generated the actual vegetation map by analyzing the physiognomic community classification and mean importance value. The physiognomic community classification showed five vegetation community types: Quercus acutissima community, Pinus densiflora community, Quercus variabilis community, Pinus rigida community, and Quercus serrata community. The relative importance value in the Q. acutissima community was 31.4% for Q. acutissima, 9.6% for Prunus spp., and 9.0% for Q. variabilis. In the P. densiflora community, it was 24.9% for P. densiflora, 12.4% for Q. acutissima, and 11.5% for Q. serrata. In the Q. variabilis community, it was 25.3% for Q. variabilis, 9.8% for Prunus spp., and 8.5% for Q. acutissima. In the P. rigida community, it was 28.4% for P. rigida 28.4%, 10.0% for Q. acutissima, and 9.3% for P. densiflora. In the Q. serrata community, it was 27.0% for Q. serrata, 11.3% for Q. aliena, and 11.5% for Styrax japonica. The actual vegetation map based on the uppermost dominant species to identify the forest vegetation's spatial distribution characteristics indicated that the natural vegetation covered the most with 87.5%, the number of vegetation patches was 87, and the average area per patch was 1.46ha.

A Flora of Vascular Plants of Seondalsan Mountain (Bonghwa-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do) (선달산(경상북도 봉화군) 일대의 관속식물상)

  • This study was investigated to elucidate the distribution of vascular plants and their usefulness of Seondalsan Mountain (1,236 m) in Bonghwa-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do. The surveys were carried out 20 times from April in 2014 to October in 2020. The vascular plants of Seondalsan Mountain was consisted a total of 638 taxa based on the voucher specimens; 96 families, 341 genera, 562 species, 18 subspecies, 53 varieties, 5 forms. 20 taxa of the Korean endemic plants were recorded and 1 taxa of Critically Endangered (CR), 3 taxa of Vulnerable (VU) and 9 taxa of Least Concern (LC), designated by Korean Forest Service as rare plants, were investigated in this region. Furthermore, V, IV and III degrees of floristic regional indicator plants, designated by the National Institute of Ecology, were included 1 taxa, 11 taxa and 28 taxa, respectively. Among them, edible, medicinal, fragrant, industrial, ornamental, ecological restoration, forage/compost plants were included 440 taxa, 505 taxa, 19 taxa, 234 taxa, 335 taxa, 214 taxa and 269 taxa respectively. In addition, 30 taxa of naturalized plants were observed.

A Study on Keijo Imperial University's Landscaping Characteristics and Construction Process in the Period of Japanese Occupation (일제강점기 경성제국대학 정원 특성과 시행과정 고찰)

  • This study examines the implementation process of landscaping projects in Japanese colonial era focusing on landscaping of Keijo Imperial University and draws conclusions as follows. First, landscaping of Keijo Imperial University in Japanese colonial era progressed based on Hoegyebeop and it provides important materials including the floor plan of the garden, detailed statement and other documents required for the construction. Second, it was all Japanese enterprises that took part in landscaping of Keijo Imperial University and the construction progressed under a private contract by lowest-price contract-awarding system after five enterprises' submitting estimates. Third, according to the floor plan for the landscaping, the garden had a shape of a quadrant and its boundaries were utilized as side gutters and connected to a drainage system. Fourth, though the floor plan doesn't clarify specific names of trees, detailed statement shows sorts of trees of the time. Trees of Chosun were plentifully introduced due to regional features and pines were the most expensive one when they were voluminous. This study has significance that it conducts an empirical research on main materials and techniques of landscaping projects in Japanese colonial era.

Specific Detection of Root Rot Pathogen, Cylindrocarpon destructans, Using Nested PCR from Ginseng Seedlings (Nested PCR 기법을 이용한 인삼 뿌리썩음병원균의 특이적 검출)

  • Cylindrocarpon destructans is a soil-borne plant pathogenic fungus causing root rot on ginseng and trees. Rapid and exact detection of this pathogen was practiced on ginseng seedlings by nested PCR using speciesspecific primer set. The second round of PCR amplification by Dest 1 and Dest 4 primer set formed 400 bp of species-specific fragment of C. destructans from the product of first round of amplification by ITS 1 and ITS 4 primer set. In the PCR sensitivity test based on DNA density, nested PCR detected to the limit of one fg and it meant the nested PCR could detect up to a few spores of C. destructans. Also, nested PCR made it possible to detect the pathogen from ginseng seedlings infected by replantation on artificial infested soil. Our nested PCR results using species-specific primer set could be utilized for diagnosis of root rot disease in ginseng cultivation.

Restoration Model of Evergreen Broad-leaved Forests in Warm Temperate Region(IV) - Vegetation Structure of the Case Study Areas - (난대 기후대의 상록활엽수림 복원 모형(IV) - 사례지의 식생구조 -)

  • To study restoration model of evergreen broad-leaved forests in warm temperate region, vegetation structure was studied at Wando(Island) as a case study. Quercus acuta was a dominant species at evergreen broad-leaved forests in Wando(Island). Majority of evergreen broad-leaved forests was a thirty years old coppice forest. Reforested vegetation and deciduous broad-leaved forests was developed at a mid-slope districts and a piedmont. Deciduous broad-leaved forestsconsisted of Quercus serrata, Carpinus tschonoskii, Carpinus coreana, etc., was developed at a ridge and higher districts. Evergreen broad-leaved woody plants were growing at a forest floor of deciduous broad-leaved forests. The species over sixty percent of constanty ratio in forty seven plots were Ligustrum japonicum, Trachelospermum asiaticum var. intermedium, Quercus acuta and Eury japonica. The vascular plants in the Wando(Island) was summarized as 488 taxa which composed as 101 families, 321 genus, 426 species, 56 varieties, 5 forms and 1 hyvrid. Evergreen broad-leaved woody stecies was 32 taxa which composed as 23 genus, 30 species and 2 varieties. The species such as Liliope platyphylla of Liliaceae and Pueraria thunbergii of Leguminosae, etc. was recorded as the highest values for their widely distribution in the areas. On the contrary, and forty taxa of plants such as Viburnum erosum of Caprifoliaceae, Traceholospermum asiaticum var. intermedium was recorded as over 50% of constancy ratio. Two hundred and nine taxa of plants such as Juglans manshurica of Juglandaceae, Cornus walteri of Cornaceae and Rodotypos scandens of Rosaceae, etc. was showed the specific trends due to long-term artificial disturbance. The forest of Pinus thunbergii showde the highest species diversities(155 species per 600m$^{2}$), while the Cinnamomum japonicum-Tracheolospermum asiaticum var. intermedium community showed the lowest species diversities(23 species per 600m$^{2}$).

Inhabitation Status and Protection Discipline of Wildbirds in Urban Area - in the case of Seoul City - (도시내 야생조류의 서식현황과 보호대책 - 서울시를 사례로 -)

  • 기존 연구 문헌의 고찰로 서울시 야생조류상의 현황 및 관리방안은 다음과 같이 결론지을 수 있다. 1. 서울시 야생조류상에 대하여 물새와 산새를 모두 연구한 결과가 아직 발표되지 않아 정확한 현황은 파악하기 어려우나 번식기에는 약 40 여종, 겨울철에는 40여종이 서식하는 것으로 볼 수 있으나, 앞으로 정교하며 지속적인 모니터링이 필요하다. 2. 도시림 뿐만 아니라 주변의 패치를 동시에 고려한 통합적 접근방식(intergrated approach)으로 도시림을 연구하여 관리해야 할 것이다. 3. 도시림의 면적은 도시림에 번식하는 야생조류의 종 수에 큰 영향을 미치는 지배적인 인자로써 도시림이 더 이상 다른 토지이용 형태로 전환되지 않도록 관리하는 것이 가장 기초적인 관리 지침이다. 4. 대면적의 숲이 세분화 될 경우, 여름철새의 번식에 지장이 있을 수 있으므로 대면적 숲의 세분화를 막아야 하며, 가능한 한 생태통로(eco-corridor)로 세분화 된 숲을 연결할 수 있는 기술을 개발해야 할 것이다. 5. 도시림에 생육하는 임목 중 대경급 임목은 나무구멍을 둥지자원으로 이용하는 조류의 중요한 은신처와 둥지이므로 대경급 임목을 대신할 수 있는 인공새집의 설치는 나무구멍을 둥지로 이용하는 조류의 번식 종 수를 높이는 방법이다. 또한, 도시림이 시민에 의해 과도하게 이용될 경우, 관목층이 제거되어 관목층을 둥지자원으로 이용하는 조류의 서식에 불리한 조건을 제공할 수 있으므로 등산로 주변에 관목성 수목을 밀식하여 등산로의 확폭과 파괴를 막아야 할 것이다. 풍부한 먹이 자원을 제공하기 위하여 관목층 보호를 꾀하고 임목의 조림과 무육에 힘써야 할 것이다. 6. 동일한 면적에서 번식 조류 종 수를 높이는 방법은 엽층의 피도량을 늘이는 것이다. 현재 서울의 도시림은 엽층의 분화보다는 우선, 피도량의 증가를 위해 노력해야 하며 후에 엽층의 다양성을 높여 산림의 수직적 구조를 다양하게 만들어야 할 것이다. 7. 들고양이와 들개에 의한 소형 조류의 피해가 늘고 있으므로, 야생조류의 천적인 들고양이와 들개를 구제해야 할 것이며, 이에 앞서 서식실태가 조사되어야 할 것이다. 8. 한각을 비롯한 지천의 하변에 서식, 월동하는 물새류와 서식지에 대한 연구와 관리가 시급히 이루어져야 할 것이다. 9. 산불방지와 도시림 정비의 일환으로 실시해 온 관목층과 낙엽 및 죽은 가지를 제거하는 비과학적인 관행과, 하천유지유량을 높이고 하변 정비 및 산불 방지으 ㅣ한 방편으로 진행된 하변 식생 제거는 전문가와 충분히 제고한 후, 없어져야 할 것이다.

Selection of drought tolerant plants through physiological indicators (생리적 인자 분석을 통한 내건성 식물 선발)

  • Drought tolerant species from 26 Korean native plants were selected using different physiological indicators. Arundinella hirta, Solanum carolinense and Carpesium divaricatum were withered after 8days of the stopping of irrigation. Plants except Kummerowia striata, Lespedeza cuneata and Ulmus parvifolia were withered in over 80% at 9-10days of the irrigation stopping. K. striata was withered after 10days, and L. cuneata and U. parvifolia were withered in over 90% after 11days of the stopping of irrigation. As stopping experiment of irrigation, A. hirta, S. carolinense, C. divaricatum, K. striata, L. cuneata and U. parvifolia were proved to be drought tolerant species. Among those plant species, transpiration rate of Cassia mimosoides var. nomame Makino was high as 0.042ml/㎠·4hr. However, unit transpiration rate of U. parvifolia and L. cuneata were 0.005 and 0.010ml/㎠·4hr, respectively. In testing of physiological indicators, leaf area and transpiration rate were different among plant species. Unit transpiration rate of U. parvifolia was lower compared with other plant species. L. cuneata, U. parvifolia, Kummerowia striata, Arundinella hirta and C. divaricatum were high in relative water content and low in relative water loss. As this results, L. cuneata and U. parvifolia. were identified as drought tolerant species.

The Flora of Forest Wetland in the Chungcheongbuk-do (충청북도 일대 산림습원의 관속식물)

  • 본 연구는 우리나라 산림습원의 식물종 다양성을 보존하기 위한 일환으로 충북지역 산림습원 34개소에 분포하는 관속식물 현황을 파악하고자 수행하였다. 현지조사는 2017년 4월부터 10월까지 7개월 동안 수행하였다. 조사 결과 충북지역 산림습원에 분포하는 관속식물은 총 98과 312속 502종 5아종 71변종 587분류군으로 충북지역 전체 식물상 약 1,241분류군의(국립수목원 한국관속식물분포도, 2016) 47.3%로 나타났다. 습지에 출현하는 빈도에(수생태사업단 우리나라습지생태계 관속식물의 유형분류, 2012) 따라 구분한 결과 절대습지식물은 물꽈리아재비, 큰고양이수염, 통발, 벗풀, 올챙이고랭이, 택사 등 27분류군, 임의습지식물은 버드나무, 쉽싸리, 물억새, 이삭사초, 부처꽃, 비녀골풀, 솔발울고랭이, 양뿔사초, 진퍼리새 등 51분류군이다. 또한 습원과 육지에서 동시 출현하는 양생식물은 모시물통이, 왕미꾸리광이, 물양지꽃, 좀고추나물, 감자개발나물, 참삿갓사초 등 29분류군, 임의육상식물은 쇠뜨기, 고비, 고추나물, 방동사니, 강계큰물통이, 오리새, 처녀바디 등 25분류군, 절대육상식물은 애기탑꽃, 좀진고사리, 옥잠난초, 물들메나무, 뻐국나리, 진범, 범꼬리 등 88분류군으로 확인되었다. 특히 절대습지식물 중 애기물꽈리아재비, 큰고양이수염, 개쉽싸리, 통발, 송이고랭이, 올방개아재비, 흰고양이수염 등 11분류군은 충북내에서 새롭게 분포가 확인되었다. 산림청 지정 희귀식물은 양뿔사초(CR), 애기물꽈리아재비(VU), 통발(VU) 등 16분류군, 한국특산식물은 키버들, 강계큰물통이, 물들메나무, 넓은잎각시붓꽃 등 19분류군이다. 식물구계학적 특정식물로는 V등급 통발 등 3분류군, IV등급 왜방풍 등 9분류군, III등급 음양고비 등 18분류군, II등급 12분류군, I등급 30분류군이 확인되었다. 외래식물은 큰닭의덩굴, 미국자리공, 붉은서나물 등 27분류군으로 나타났다.
