Frequency reuse in a cellular wireless communication environment gives rise to a phenomenon of cochannel interference. This paper introduces a power control strategy for OFDM based communication systems operating in such an environment. Among the existing power control schemes, IWF(iterative waterfilling) is known to exhibit relatively good performance. However, it requires feedback of power level and bit allocation information for each subcarrier from a receiver to its associated transmitter, which can lead to a considerable overhead, especially for the case of employing large number of subcarriers. Motivated by this, we present a simplified power control scheme with reduced overhead feedback, which allocates some nonzero identical power to the subcarriers of which channel conditions are above a certain threshold and zero power to the other ones. Computer simulations show that the proposed strategy produces a good approximation to the performance of the IWF in terms of the transmission power level while it requires less overhead feedback.

This paper presents a power control scheme for OFDM based wireless communication systems in a multicell environment with co-channel interference which enables each system to achieve its target level of transmission bit rate. Generally, the optimal or near optimal power control scheme for multicarrier systems is Down to control the power level of each subcarrier in accordance with the associated channel status, which may be found in WF(waterfilling) and WF(iterative waterfilling) schemes. However, this requires the channel state information associated with every subchannel to be fed back from the receiver to its transmitter for successful power control. If the wireless channel exhibits relatively fast fading or the number of subcarriers is large, this may result in a considerable overhead. Here, in order to alleviate this problem, we propose a power control strategy for an OFDM systems maintaining the same power level over all the subcarriers. Also we prove its convergence, compare its complexity with that of the existing IWF algorithm, and examine its convergence characteristic through computer simulations.

In this paper, we propose the transmission scheme for the space-time block coded spatial multiplexing systems that have adaptive rate and power allocation per each transmit antenna through the use of feedback information related to channel state. Simulation results show that the adaptive power and rate transmission scheme gain more than 4.5 dB over conventional equal-power and rate transmission scheme.
Korea Railroad Research Institute has developed the driverless rubber-tired K-AGT (Korean-Automated Guideway Transit) system from 1999 to 2005 and has done its performance and reliability tests on the test line at Gyeongsan-city. Radio Frequency Communication-Based Train Control system of K-AGT, which employed Advanced Automated Train Control scheme, detects train position using the radio propagation delay between wayside and vehicle radio equipment. In this paper, we investigate whether the transmission power of radio system can be reduced to the permitted level announced by the Ministry of Information and Communication for license-free ISM(Industrial Scientific Medical) frequency bands. We first determine radio propagation model, using the measured data at test line, and perform simulation for radio coverage prediction. From the simulation results, we identify that the radio system operated with reduced power can provide good link quality in total test line.

In this paper, we propose a distributed user scheduling with transmit power control based on the amount of generating interference to other base stations (BSs) in multi-cell multi-input multi-output (MIMO) networks. Assuming that the time-division duplexing (TDD) system is used, the interference channel from users to other cell BSs is obtained at each user. In the proposed scheduling, each user first generates a transmit beamforming vector by using singular value decompositon (SVD) over MIMO channels and reduces the transmit power if its generating interference to other BSs is larger than a predetermined threshold. Each BS selects the user with the largest effective channel gains among users, which reflects the adjusted power of users. Simulation results show that the proposed technique significantly outperforms the existing user scheduling algorithms.

Visible light communication (VLC) offers communication function in addition to illumination. Because the signal communication capacity per cable is 1,000 times compared to the power line communication (PLC), optical fiber is being advertised as the basis of the information and communication. Also dimming control of LED is an important component needed to provide energy savings and quality of life. This study configured multi-hop VLC system model in a building using optical fiber and analyzed the power performance of two of modulations using dimming techniques. The transmission power and received power were used to compare the power performance in multi-hop VLC environments.

In this paper, we proposed a new burst-mode optical transmitter structure which is suitable for high data rate operation such as Gb/s operation. With this structure we made a 1.25Gb/s burst-mode optical transmitter including a digitally controlled APC circuit for EPON systems using commercial 0.8m BiCMOS technology. It well functioned at 1.25Gb/s and showed good eye patterns with 53.3ps jitter, 191ps rise time and 258ps fall time. To characterize the APC function we measured optical output power as increasing external voltage VREF. The optical power is linearlyproportional to VREF at the rate of 0.293mW/V.
