Effects of Functional Compost on Production, Yield and Quality of Chinese Cabbage (기능성 퇴비가 배추의 생육 특성과 수량 및 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • In order to evaluate the effects of functional composts which include elvan, jade and loess, the growth and the yield of Chinese Cabbage and its content of sugar, nitrate and vitamin C were analysed. This study was conducted in lysimeter which was installed in the Experimental Farm of Dankook University. Total fresh weights of Chinese Cabbage were higher in the treatments of compost with mixture of elvan, jade and loess, while numbers of leaf was not increased in those treatments compared to control plot. Leaf length increased more than leaf width, specially in the evlan treatment. Fresh weight of leaf blade and midrib in outer leaf was highest in the plot of elvan treatment among the 6 treatments. Sugar content in the Chinese Cabbage showed lower in the treatment of compost with mixture of elvan, jade and loess compared to control plot. Vitamin content was high in leaf blade compare to those in midrib, and it showed highest value in the treatment of compost with mixture of jade. Nitrate concentration of leaf blade and midrib in the treatment of compost with mixture of loess was lowest at 2,021ppm and 2,235ppm respectively. It shows the effective function of mixture compost with jade, loess and elvan to decrease nitrate content in the Chinese Cabbage.

  • Smart sensors embedable in composite wind turbine blades have been required to be researched for monitoring the health status of large wind turbine blades during real-time operation. In this research, the feasibility of packaged FBG sensor probes was studied through the experiments of composite blade trailing edge specimens in order to detect cracking and debonding damages. The instants of cracking and debonding generated in the shear web were confirmed by rapid changes of the wavelength shifts from the bare FBG sensor probes. Packaged FBG sensor probes were proposed to remove the fragile property of bare FBG sensor probes attached on composite wind blade specimens. Strain and temperature sensitivity of fabricated probes installed on the skin of blade specimen were almost equal to those of a bare FBG sensor. Strain sensitivity was measured to be ${\mu}{\varepsilon}$/pm in a strain range from to 0 to 600 ${\mu}{\varepsilon}$, and the calculated temperature sensitivity was to be 48 pm/$^{\circ}C$ in the heating test up to 80 degree.

  • 생명공학의 시대로 일컬어 지고 있는 오늘날, 재생의학 분야에서는 난치성 질환 치료를 목적으로 활발한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 특히, 줄기세포를 이용한 세포 대체치료 관련 연구는 최근 국내 황우석 박사의 체세포 핵이식 배아세포주 확립에 이르기 까지 괄목할 만한 발전을 보여 주고 있다. 이와 관련해 생명보험산업에 적잖은 파장이 예상되며, 생명보험사 내부적으로 기존에 판매된 상품의 사차손 관리와 함께 급속도로 발전하는 줄기세포 연구에 직접적으로 대응하는 상품개발, 언더라이팅, 지급 심사 등 보험사 내외에서의 전방위적인 변화가 필요하다는 문제 제기가 있다. 줄기세포란 조직 분화 과정에서 볼 수 있는 세포이며 근육 뼈 뇌 피부 등 신체의 어떤 기관으로도 전환할 수 있는 만능세포로서, 간 폐 심장 등 구체적 장기를 형성하기 이전에 분화를 멈출 배아 단계의 세포를 말한다. 한편, 성체줄기세포는 조직이나 기관의 분화된 세포들 사이에서 발견되는 미분화 세포로써, 자기 스스로 증식할 수 있으며, 조직이나 기관의 특수한 기능을 가지고 있는 세포로 분화할 수 있는 능력을 가진 신체줄기세포를 말한다. 배아줄기세포와 생체줄기세포를 통한 장기이식 등 난치병 정복은 윤리적, 사회적으로 많은 논란이 예상되며, 기술적으로도 해결해야 할 문제점들이 산적해 있기 때문에 아직은 요원한 것이 사실이다. 현재 유럽 대부분의 나라와 미국에서는 인간 배아의 복제가 금지되어 있으며, 일본 정부는 연구용 배아 복제를 제한적으로 허용하고 있다. 하지만, 우리 나라의 경우 2005년 1월에 '생명윤리 및 안전에 관한 법'이 발효되었지만 정부는 관련 부작용에 대한 깊은 고찰 없이 전폭적인 지원들 약속하고 있는 실정이다. 줄기세포 연구의 발달로 인해 인류가 난치병 치료의 첫 장을 열었다고 하더라도 그 영향이 당장 보험사에 미친다고 할 수는 없다. 왜냐하면 앞으로 이러한 신기술이 실제 의료행위에 적용되기 위해서는 여러 단계의 안정화 작업과 임상시험이 필요한데 이러한 작업이 기술적으로 어렵고 그 시간도 만만치 않게 걸리기 때문이다. 또한, 보험사의 보장은 크게 사망/수술/입원/암/기타보장으로 구별할 수 있는데, 줄기세포 연구의 발달과 관련이 있는 보장이 제한되어 있어 보험사에 미치는 영향이 당장 우려할 만한 수준이라 할 수 없다. 하지만 만약 치료용 줄기세포 배양으로 인한 장기 기관의 이식이나 손상세포의 대체 등과 같은 의학신기술의 예상 외로 급격하게 발전한다면 보험사의 Risk 관리에 상당한 저해요인으로 작용할 것으로 판단된다. 특히 진단 입원 수술로 대표되는 생존보장에 대한 사차 Risk 및 사차손의 급증이나 역선택 증가는 보험사의 경영수지 악화를 유발하여 보험산업 전반에 위험으로 작용할 수도 있다. 따라서, 장기적인 안목으로 업계 공동의 대응이 필요하고, 각 사에서도 상품개발, 언더라이팅, 지급심사 간의 긴밀한 협조가 요구된다. 생명보험산업의 Risk 관리는 기존의 시장환경에 영향을 받는 비차, 이차중심에서 보험회사가 어느 정도 관리를 통해 적정규모를 유지할 수 있는 사차로 그 중심축이 이동하고 있다. 보험산업이 계속 활력을 갖고 성장하기 위해서는 체계적인 Risk나 관리가 핵심일 것이며, 보험사의 사차 Risk의 중요성이 더욱 커져 가고 있는 현실에서 거시적으로 의학신기술 발달 등 위험요인에 대해 미리 분석하고 이에 대한 대비책 마련이 필요할 것으로 판단된다.

Safety evaluation of type B transport container for tritium storage vessel (B형 삼중수소 운반용기 안정성 평가)

  • A transport container for a 500 kCi tritium storage vessel was developed, which could be used for the transport of metal tritide from Wolsong TRF facility to a disposal site. The structural, thermal, shielding, and confinement analyses were performed for the container in a view of Type B. As a result of structural analysis, the developed container sustained its integrity under normal and accidental conditions. The maximum temperature increase of the inner storage vessel by radiation was evaluated at $134.8^{\circ}C at room temperature. In $800^{\circ}C$ fire test, The thermal barrier of container sustained the inner vessel at $405^{\circ}C after 30 min, which temperature was allowable for the container integrity since maximum design temperature of inner vessel was $550^{\circ}C. In the evaluation of the shielding, the activity of radiation was nearly zero on the outer surface of inner vessel. Consequently the transport container for a 500 kCi tritium was evaluated to pass all the safety tests including accidental condition, so it was concluded that the designed transport container is proper to be used.

A Study on Settlement according to Height and Ground stiffness on the MSEW on the IPM Bridge (토압분리형 교량의 보강토옹벽의 높이와 기초지반 강성에 따른 침하량 검토)

  • The mechanically stabilized earth wall (MSEW) of the IPM bridge is an important structure that constitutes the bridge, and supports the horizontal earth pressure and approach slab. Therefore, it is necessary to carefully analyze the settlement of MSEW of the IPM bridge. This study examined the settlement according to the height and ground stiffness on the MSEW on the IPM Bridge. According to the design guideline, the IPM Bridge (2016) was designed to have a height of 4.0 ~ 10.0m and the elastic settlement was calculated. The base area and the grounding pressure of the MSE wall increased linearly with the height, and the elastic settlement also increased linearly. In addition, the stiffness of the foundations satisfying the allowable settlement of the approach slab is a N value of 35 or more. The settlement of finite element analysis was estimated to be smaller than the elastic settlement, and the stiffness of the foundation ground satisfied the allowable settlement of the approach slab above N value of 20. Because the elastic settlement of the MSEW of the IPM Bridge was overestimated, it will be necessary to examine it carefully by finite element analysis.

A Study on the Pile Material Suited for Pile Supported Embankment Reinforced by Geosynthetics (토목섬유로 보강된 성토지지말뚝 구조에 적합한 말뚝재료의 개발)

  • It is a current trend that the concrete track is applied for high speed railway. In the case of the railway embankment constructed on soft ground, the damage to concrete track which is sensitive to settlement such as distortion and deflection could be caused by very small amount of long term settlement. Pile Supported Embankment method can be considered as the effective method to control the residual settlement of the railway embankment on soft ground. The Geosynthetics is used inside of the embankment to maximize the arching effect transmitting the load of the embankment to the top of the piles. But, PHC piles that are generally used for bridge structures are also applied as the pile supporting the load of embankment concentrated by the effect of the Geosynthetics. That is very low efficiency in respect of pile material. So, in this study, the cast in place concrete pile was selected as the most suitable pile type for supporting the embankment by a case study and the optimum mixing condition of concrete using a by-product of industry was induced by performing the mixing designs and the compressive strength designs. And it is shown that the cast in place pile with the optimum mixing condition using the by-product of industry is 2.8 times more efficient than the PHC pile for the purpose of Pile Supported Embankment by the finite element analysis method.

  • The p53 gene plays a critical role in the transcriptional regulation of cellular response to stress, DNA damage, hypoxia, and tumor development. Keeping in mind the recently discovered manifold physiological functions of p53, its involvement in the regulation of cancer is not surprising. In about 50% of all human cancers, inactivation of p53's protein function occurs either through mutations in the gene itself or defects in the mechanisms that activate it. This disorder plays a crucial role in tumor evolution by allowing the evasion of a p53-dependent response. Many recent studies have focused on directly targeting p53 mutants by identifying selective, small molecular compounds to deplete them or to restore their tumor-suppressive function. These small molecules should effectively regulate various interactions while maintaining good drug-like properties. Among them, the discovery of the key p53-negative regulator, MDM2, has led to the design of new small molecule inhibitors that block the interaction between p53 and MDM2. Some of these small molecule compounds have now moved from proof-of-concept studies into clinical trials, with prospects for further, more personalized anti-carcinogenic medicines. Here, we review the structural and functional consequences of wild type and mutant p53 as well as the development of therapeutic agents that directly target this gene, and compounds that inhibit the interaction between it and MDM2.

Dynamic Behavior of the Prestressed Composite Girder by Modal Tests and Moving Train Analysis (프리스트레스트 강합성 거더의 모달테스트 및 이동 열차하중 해석에 의한 동적거동)

  • Various PSC and steel-concrete composite railway bridges are being developed for short-medium spans with structural and economic efficiency. According to the design concept, the prestressed composite girder bridge has the advantages of being lightweight and having low girder depth, with the capacity for long spans. However, the dynamic behavior under a passing train is one of the critical issues concerning these railway bridges designed with more flexibility. Therefore, it is very important to evaluate the modal parameters before performing dynamic analyses. In this paper, real-scale prestressed composite girders were fabricated as a test model and modal testing was carried out to evaluate modal parameters including natural frequency and modal damping ratio. During the modal testing, a digitally controlled vibration exciter as well as an impact hammer was applied to obtain frequency-response functions, and the modal parameters were also evaluated after the fracture of test models. With application of reliable properties from modal tests, the estimation of dynamic performances of prestressed composite girder railway bridges can be obtained from various parametric studies on dynamic behavior under the passage of a moving train.

Fatigue Evaluation of Precast Concrete Deck Connection using Ultra-High Performance, Fiber Reinforced Concrete (초고성능 섬유보강 콘크리트를 적용한 프리캐스트 바닥판 접합부의 피로성능 평가)

  • This experimental study presents the fatigue evaluation of a precast deck connected using Ultra-High Performance, Fiber Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC). Four types of two identical large-scale specimens were fabricated with simplified splice rebar details which had a short splice length of ten times rebar diameter. The flexural behavior of each type of specimens until failure was investigated and fatigue behavior of the same type of specimens was then evaluated using two-million cyclic loading. In the flexural tests, tensile rebars exhibited the deformation exceeding yielding strain but failure mode related to the splice details was not observed in spite of such a short splice length. In the fatigue tests, damage was not appreciably accumulated by the cyclic loading except initial flexural cracks and the stress variations in tensile rebars was less than the allowable stress range. These experimental results demonstrate that all types of specimens exhibited acceptable fatigue performance and indicate that enhanced mechanical properties of ultra-high performance material permits to use a simplified splice details along with short joint width.

A Study on the Risk of Lightning in Special Structures and its Verification Method (특수 구조물의 낙뢰 위험도와 검증 방안에 관한 연구)

  • Free-standing structures that are especially high are more likely to receive brain attacks caused by lightning. Since special structures are generally part of national industrial structures, lightning strikes mostly cause socio-economic damage. Lightning protection facilities are installed to prevent such lightning damage, but in 2015, support cables on West Sea bridges were hit by lightning, causing a lot of economic damage. Accordingly, the design of a lightning protection system shall establish protective measures after analyzing the risk of debris falling onto the structure. In this thesis, lightning strikes are analyzed directly in relation to the modeling system that operates the actual information collection system for lightning strikes, depending on the location of the tall, free-standing structures, and practical lightning hazard information is provided by a meteorological station. In addition, we propose monitoring and applying a probability correction rate to the calculation of the lightning risk based on the number of lightning strikes directly reaching the ground in order to obtain an effective lightning risk assessment.
