Study of particle laden flows around turbine cascade (터빈 익렬 주위에서의 부유 입자 유동 해석)

  • 본 연구에서는 제트 추진 기관의 터빈 익렬에서의 유동과 대기 중에 부유되어 있는 입자 또는 연소 생성물들이 제트엔진 내부로 유입될 경우 이에 따른 압축기 및 터빈 날개의 마모 및 충돌 부위를 예측하기 위하여 수치해석을 수행하였다. 일반적으로 각종 항공기의 추진 기관용 가스 터빈 엔진은 대기중에 부유되어 있는 각종 입자들의 영향을 받게 된다. 특히, 확산 지역을 통과하는 항공기나 먼지 입자 부유물이 많은 공업지대 또는 사막지역을 비행하는 항공기의 경우는 모래 알갱이, 먼지 및 연소 입자의 직접적인 영향을 받아 각 요소들에 심각한 부식 및 마모가 발생됨으로써 성능 저하 및 냉각 통로의 막힘, 압축기와 터빈 날개의 손상 등이 예측되어진다. 특히 항공기용 추진 기관은 엔진 입구에 유입 공기를 정화하기 위한 여과장치의 설치가 불가능하며, 자동차용 가스터빈 엔진의 경우는 여과 장치를 부착하여도 미세한 입자들이 여과 장치에 여과되지 않고 엔진 내부로 침투하게 되므로 치명적인 손상이 예상된다. 이러한 손상들은 초기에는 미세하게 발생하지만, 손상 정도가 점점 누적됨에 따라서 항공기의 안전 운전에 심각한 위험 요소로서 작용할 수 있으며, 경제적으로도 기관의 유지 보수비용의 증가를 가져올 수 있다. 따라서 압축기에 화산재 또는 대기중에 부유되어 있는 금속 입자나 먼지입자 등이 유입되었을 경우, 압축기 날개의 손상 부위와 정도를 예측하는 것이 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 Lagangian방법을 적용하여 압축기 날개위의 부유 입자 충돌 부위를 예측하고, 설계 시 이를 보완할 수 있는 기준을 제시하였다. 아울러 설계 입구각과 크게 벗어난 유동의 유입시에 발생되는 박리 현상과 이에 따른 입자의 유동 및 날개의 입자 접착 부위를 예측하였다. 본 연구에서는 여러 크기의 입자(다양한 Stokes 수)들을 주어진 속도에서 유선을 따라 압축기 입구에서 압축기 유로로 여러 위치에서 부유 시켜서 그 입자들의 궤적 및 충돌, 점착 위지를 고찰하고, 정량적인 충돌량을 해석하기 위하여 입자 충돌 계수를 정의하여 압축기 날개 표면의 충돌특성을 알아보았다. 이러한 예측을 통하여 압축기 날개 표면의 충돌 부위를 예측하고, 날개의 표면을 코팅하는 등 보호 개선책을 제시할 수 있고, 연소의 반응물 입자가 터빈 날개에 충돌하여 발생되는 날개 표면의 파손, 냉각 홀의 막임, 연소 입자의 점착 부위 등을 예측하여 보완책을 준비할 수 있도록 하였다.

Performance Evaluation of Asphalt Concrete Pavements at Korea Expressway Corporation Test Road (시험도로 아스팔트 포장의 공용성 변화 분석)

  • This paper mainly deals with the performance evaluation of 33 asphalt sections of Korea Expressway Corporation Test Road (KECTR) during the past four years. Since the construction of the KECTR in December 2002, key performance indicators of asphalt pavements have been collected five times with an Automatic Road Analyzer (ARAN), and have been analyzed for permanent deformation, surface distress, and road roughness. Linear viscoelastic characteristics of four dense graded HMAs used in KECTR were investigated with a series of complex modulus test. The effect of air void in HMAs on dynamic modulus was investigate at two air void contents for a surface course HMA (19 mm Nominal Maximum Size of Aggregate). Layer densification due to traffic was estimated from air void contents of field cored samples, and was correlated with pavement distresses and performances. One of findings of this study was that both permanent deformation and cracking were suspectible to pavement temperatures, rather than traffic. However, it was found that road roughness was mostly affected by traffic loading.

  • A non-destructive time domain approach to examine structural damage using parameterized partial differential equations and Galerkin approximation techniques is presented. The time domain analysis for damage detection is independent of modal parameters and analytical models unlike frequency domain methods which generally rely on analytical models. The time history of the vibration response of the structure was used to identify the presence of damage. Damage in a structure causes changes in the physical coefficients of mass density, elastic modulus and damping coefficients. This is a part of our ongoing effort on the general problem of modeling and parameter estimation for internal damping mechanisms in a composite beam. Namely, in detecting damage through time-domain or frequency-domain data from smart sensors, the common damages are changed in modal properties such as natural frequencies, mode shapes, and mode shape curvature. This paper examines the use of beam-like structures with piezoceramic sensors and actuators to perform identification of those physical parameters, and detect the damage. Experimental results are presented from tests on cantilevered composite beams damaged at different locations and different dimensions. It is demonstrated that the method can sense the presence of damage and obtain the position of a damage.

Ultimate Strength Based Reliability of Corroded Ship Hulls (부식을 고려한 선각거더의 최종강도 신뢰성)

  • Aging ships can suffer structural damage due to corrosion, fatigue crack etc., and possibility of catastrophic failure of seriously damaged ships is very high. To reduce the risk of loss of ships due to hull collapse, it is essential to evaluate ultimate hull strength of aging ships taking into account various uncertainties associated with structural damages. In this paper, ultimate strength-based reliability analysis of ship structures considering wear of structural members due to corrosion is described. A corrosion rate estimate model for structural members is introduced. An ultimate limit state function of a ship hull is formulated taking into account corrosion effects. The model is applied to an existing oil tanker, and reliability index associated with hull collapse is calculated by using the second-order reliability method (SORM). Discussions on structure safety of corroded ships are made.

Comparative study on fretting wear of aerospace, biomedical, and nuclear components (항공, 바이오, 원자력 부품의 프레팅 마모 현상 비교 연구)

  • This paper investigates fretting wear damage in aerospace, biomedical, and nuclear components. Experimental parameters are identified that affect fretting wear damage. The parameters observed in industries are directly compared. The magnitudes of frequency, relative displacement, and normal force are found to differ depending on the contacting components where fretting wear occurs. In addition, recent solutions to minimize fretting wear damage are reviewed. The solutions include depositing of a low-friction coating, surface treatment, selection of substrate material, and optimal design of contact geometries. This comparative study suggests useful methods and solutions for analyzing fretting wear damage and for designing tribo-components.

Recovering Corrupted Motion Vectors Using Edge Direction (경계 방향성을 이용한 손상된 움직임 벡터의 복원 기법)

  • In wireless communication systems, transmission errors degrade the reconstructed image quality severely. Among various techniques which reduce the degradation, the error concealment technique yields good performance without overheads and the modification of the encoder. In this paper, we have proposed the technique for recovering the corrupted motion vector using the edge direction of blocks which surround the corrupted block, when the video information is compressed by H.263 standard. We uses the property that each object in video sequences shows the same motion. For the estimation of edge directions, the first AC coefficients of blocks are used. Extensive simulation results show that the proposed technique yields good performance with a reduced computational complexity.

Cardiac Injury due to Thoracic Trauma (흉부외상에 의한 심장손상)

  • Background: Cardiac injuries are the most commonly overlooked injuries in patients who die from trauma. Patients who survive blunt cardiac rupture or penetrating injuries are rare and the incidence is not well defined. Many patients require urgent or emergency operations and operative mortality is very high. Material and Method: A retrospective review of 26 patients with cardiac injuries due to thoracic trauma undergoing emergency thoracotomy from January 1997 to December 2005. Result: There were 17 male and 9 female patients, with a mean age of $45.3{\pm}16.2\;(range:\;17{\sim}80)$. Thirteen patients (50%) were injured in motor vehicle accidents, and five patients (19%) in motorcycle accidents. Six patients (23%) were injured by knives, and two patients (8%) were injured by falling. Anatomic injuries included right atrium (12 [46%]), left atrium (1 [4%]), right ventricle (5 [19%]), left ventricle (5 [19%]), and cardiac chambers (2 [7%]). Diagnosis was made by computer tomography in 12 patients and sonography in 14 patients. The average times from admission to operating room was $89.2{\pm}86.7\;min\;(range:\;10{\sim}335)$. The average time for diagnosis was $51.3{\pm}13.6\;min\;(range:\;5{\sim}280)$. The mean Revised Trauma Score (RTS) was $6.7{\pm}0.8$, and the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), was $12.8{\pm}2.8$. The overall mortality rate was 12% (3 out of 26 patients). Conclusion: The mortality rate from cardiac injury is very high. The survival rate can be increased only by a high index of suspicion, aggressive expeditious diagnostic evaluation, and prompt appropriate surgical management.

Digital Watermaking of EZW coded image in the compressed domain (EZW를 이용한 디지털 워터마킹)

  • 본 논문에서는 EZW(embedded zerotree wavelet)를 사용하여 영상을 압축하는 과정에서 워터마크를 삽입하는 새로운 방법을 제안하였다. 비트열에 워터마크를 삽입하는 기존의 방법은 DCT를 기반의 MPEG과 JPEG 비트열에 워터마크를 삽입하였다. 하지만 DCT 기반의 압축 방법은 낮은 비트율로 압축할 몌에 블록화현상이 생기고 비트율을 제어하기 어려운 문제점이 있다. 이러한 문제점을 극복하기 위해 웨이블릿을 이용한 압축 방법이 사용되었고, 대표적인 방법으로 EZW가 많이 쓰인다. 본 논문에서는 EZW의 주부호화 과정(dominant pass)에서 발생하는 4가지의 심벌을 이용하여 부호화된 이진의 워터마크 영상을 삽입하는 방법을 제안하였다. 웨이블릿 분해된 계수 상에서 마지막 레벨에 위치한ZTR(Zerotree root) 심벌에 워터마크를 삽입함으로 원 영상에 손상을 주지 않고, 워터마크를 간단히 추출할 수 있었다. 또 낮은 비트율에서도 워터마크의 손상이 적었고, 많은 양의 워터마크 영상을 삽입할 수 있었다.

  • This study is aimed to have a database of system development for the prediction, monitoring, analyzing, and evaluation of tensile strength and damage characteristics through AE technique for CFRP. Therefore the correlations between impact characteristics (such as impact velocity, impact energy, delamination area etc) and AE signals for CFRP laminates were investigated. And also it were accomplished the evaluation of tensile strength and the investigation on correlation with AE signals for impact damaged specimen of CFRP laminates.

A Probabilistic Analysis for Fatigue Cumulative Damage and Fatigue Life in CFRP Composites Containing a Circular Hole (원공을 가진 CFRP 복합재료의 피로누적손상 및 피로수명에 대한 확률적 해석)

  • The Fatigue characteristics of 8-harness satin woven CFRP composites with a circular hole are experimentally investigated under constant amplitude tension-tension loading. It is found in this study that the fatigue damage accumulation behavior is very random and history-independent, and the fatigue cumulative damage is linearly related with the mean number of cycles to a specified damage state. From these results, it is known that the fatigue characteristics of CFRP composites satisfy the basic assumptions of Markov chain theory and the parameter of Markov chain model can be determined only by mean and variance of fatigue lives. The predicted distribution of the fatigue cumulative damage using Markov chain model shows a good agreement with the test results. For the fatigue life distribution, Markov chain model makes similar accuracy to 2-parameter Weibull distribution function.
