In today's aging society, stable residential environment is essential for the elderly living alone to be able to do activities of daily living without restrictions and cherish a satisfactory quality of life. We developed a safe and convenient multifunctional sofa by removing complex combinations and decomposing processes of the multifunctional transformable furniture, appropriate for the use by elderly living alone. We deduced the 4 main keywords and details related to the purpose of sofa by analyzing the users' physical and mental characteristics through literature review and by using 24-hour scheduling, interviews, and actual measurement. Finally, by applying this to furniture planning, we designed 4 different types of multifunctional sofa system. Production was done in cooperation with AND Co. for 2 weeks using materials, colors and adhesives selectively chosen with careful consideration of their effects on the physical, mental aspects of the user to give optimal comfortability.

Enlargement of the gingiva caused by phenitoin, an anticonvulsant used in the treatment of epilepsy, occurs in some of the patients receiving the drug. Its incidence varies from 3 to 62 percent, with the greater frequencies in younger patients. The hyperplasia is usually generalized throughout the mouth, but is more severe tendency in the maxillary and mandibular anterior regions, 18 year old male patient was admitted to our Department of Dentistry with the complaint of generalized painless gingival swelling. After the consult of the N.M. and laboratory study, the gingivectomy and gingivoplasty was performed. The periodontal pack and tin foil was applied on the attached gingiva to protect a surgical site and bleeding control. We obtained a good result of improved esthetics and function.

This study proposes a method for the recognition of emergency situation according to the bimodal information of camera image sensor and gravity sensor. This method can recognize emergency condition by mutual cooperation and compensation between sensors even when one of the sensors malfunction, the user does not carry gravity sensor, or in the place like bathroom where it is hard to acquire camera images. This paper implemented HMM(Hidden Markov Model) based learning and recognition algorithm to recognize actions such as walking, sitting on floor, sitting at sofa, lying and fainting motions. Recognition rate was enhanced when image feature vectors and gravity feature vectors are combined in learning and recognition process. Also, this method maintains high recognition rate by detecting moving object through adaptive background model even in various illumination changes.

Actinomycosis is chronic, granulomatous, suppurative and fibrosing disease caused by Actinomyces. Actinomyces are anaerobic, G(+), non-acid-fast, branched, filamentous bacteria. The most commonly found microorganism is Actinomyces israelii. Common site for isolation of actinomyces are dental plaque, dental caries, calculus, and tonsillar crypt. A breach in the integrity of the mucosa by direct trauma or following a fracture, tooth extraction, root canal therapy or some intraoral surgical procedure is thought to be the most likely portal of entry. This is a case report of 23 years old male with cervicofacial actinomycosis developed after extraction and treated with surgical excision and antibiotics.

It is not uncommon for sarcomatous transformation of giant cell tumor of bone to occur after radiation, but osteosarcoma arising from giant cell tumor after surgical treatment is very rare and remains an aggressive form of sarcoma of bone with high mortality rate. We experienced 2 cases in whom a osteosarcoma developed long after benign giant cell tumor of bone was removed surgically from the same site. Malignant transformation was presented at 2 years 1 month and 9 years 8 months each after initial surgery. We describe our experience concerning clinical features, methods of treatment and outcomes of osteosarcoma arising from giant cell tumor.

This study examines the reflection of a partially perforated wall with single chamber by 2D and 3D hydraulic experiments. The effects of slit shape on the front wall, relative chamber width and wave steepness were discussed. For the normal incident wave condition, the reflections of horizontal slit case were lower than that of the vertical slit with the similar porosity, but the differences are not significant. When the wave steepness is relatively small, the reflection coefficients are large. In the oblique incidence, the normalized wave heights along a perforated wall with similar porosity are almost same for the vertical and horizontal slit walls and therefore the difference by slit shape can be ignored.

A 4-year-old female Labrador Retriever dog was evaluated for a mass located in the left maxilla. Skull radiographic and CT findings revealed a soft tissue mass with bone lysis in the region of the left maxilla. Mass resection and surgical curettage was performed, and the mass was histopathologically classified as an acanthomatous ameloblastoma with a fibrous dysplasia.

Chondroblastoma of the patella is a uncommon benign neoplasm in the middle aged person. Furthermore, a hemorrhagic cystic change associated with chondroblastoma is extremely rare. We experienced a case of chondroblastoma which underwent hemorrhgic cystic change. A fiftyyear-old female patient has suffered from right knee joint pain for 1 month before. Dominant gross feature was hemorrhagic cyst which was not involved into the joint space. Soft tissue was curetted and it was diagnosed to be chondroblastoma. The case was treated with curettage and bone graft.

The wave power absorbing performance of a bottom-mounted oscillating water column (OWC) chamber structure is studied. The potential problem inside the chamber is solved by making use of the Green integral equation associated with the Rankine Green function while the outer problem with the Kelvin Green function taking account of fluctuating air pressure in the air chamber. The absorbed wave power, wave elevation inside the chamber, reflection coefficient and wave loads are calculated for various values of a parameter related to the fluctuating air pressure. The present methods can also be used for the design of a OWC breakwater which can absorb and reflect the incoming wave energy at the same time.

Communication has increasingly become important between peoples in the modern society. The change in the composition of a family brought by urbanization and industrialization caused structural changes in the society, and the lack of communication between people have incited various social conflicts rising from individualism and ego-centrism. Thus in this era, domestic environment is one of the most significant environment that enables one to transform into an appropriate member of the social community as well as develop appropriate traits of one. The living room, which served as an arena of communication for family members is now replaced with TV, a popular media, and has lost its original role in the house. The living room furnitures today are designed to facilitate people in viewing TV, not to enhance communication between family members. Thus in this research, I would like to propose a new concept of 'communication furniture' and various examples to suggest appropriate, desired role of living room furniture in households today. In addition, I hope this research contributes to forming a beneficial living room culture and a domestic environment as well as a heart-warming, human society.
