New Approach to MAC Protocol for Multiple AUV (수중 Multiple AUV를 위한 MAC 프로토콜 설계)

  • The paper deals with a approach to underwater acoustic based Ad-hoc communication, which allows major design strategies for Media Access Control (MAC) within a group of the autonomous underwater vehicles(AUV). The proposed MAC aims at deploying AUV-centric star topology, which minimizes overhead of sensor nodes and improves energy-efficiency. Furthermore, that is also well under long and unknown propagation delays of the underwater acoustic medium. The implemented MAC protocol makes it easier to achieve frame synchronization than TDMA due to deploying localized schedule time, in addition to saving energy consumption by letting nodes sleep. It is also superior to MACA and MACAW in terms of propagation delay. This scalable centralized protocol has the potential to serve as a primer for development of MAC protocol for future underwater acoustic based ad-hoc networks.

Development of FPGA Based HIL Simulator for PMS Performance Verification of Natural Liquefied Gas Carriers (액화천연가스운반선의 PMS 성능 검증을 위한 FPGA 기반 HIL 시뮬레이터 개발)

  • Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation is a technique that can be employed for developing and testing complex real-time embedded systems. HIL simulation provides an effective platform for verifying power management system (PMS) performance of liquefied natural gas carriers, which are high value-added vessels such as offshore plants. However, HIL tests conducted by research institutes, including domestic shipyards, can be protracted. To address the said issue, this study proposes a field programmable gate array (FPGA) based PMS-HIL simulator that comprises a power supply, consumer, control console, and main switchboard. The proposed HIL simulation platform incorporated actual equipment data while conducting load sharing PMS tests. The proposed system was verified through symmetric, asymmetric, and fixed load sharing tests. The proposed system can thus potentially replace the standard factory acceptance tests. Furthermore, the proposed simulator can be helpful in developing additional systems for vessel automation and autonomous operation, including the development of energy management systems.

Time Synchronization for WSN Nodes Operating on Low-Energy Sleep-Wake Cycles (저 에너지의 취침 기상 사이클로 작동하는 무선센서 네크워크 노드들을 위한 시간 동기화)

  • Previous low-energy time synchronization methods have mainly focused on reducing the number of transmission or reception packets. However, this paper proposes a method that reduces the percentage of time a node has to be awake (the duty cycle), assuming that a periodic sleep-wake cycle is used to conserve energy. Based on our experience with actual WSN devices, a system model is proposed, and the potential performance of the proposed method, with different parameter values, is analyzed. To further demonstrate the feasibility of our method, experiments were conducted using nine WSN devices in a $3{\times}3$ grid network topology. The results show the average synchronization error is 107.57 $\mu{s}$ in duty cycle 5% and synchronization period 10 sec, and 130 $\mu{s}$ in duty cycle 2.5% and synchronization period 20 sec.

Design of a Truncated Floating-Point Multiplier for Graphic Accelerator of Mobile Devices (모바일 그래픽 가속기용 부동소수점 절사 승산기 설계)

  • As the mobile communication and the semiconductor technology is improved continuously, mobile contents such as the multimedia service and the 2D/3D graphics which require high level graphics are serviced recently. Mobile chips should consume small die area and low power. In this paper, we design a truncated floating-point multiplier that is useful for the 2D/3D vector graphics in mobile devices. The truncated multiplier is based on the radix-4 Booth's encoding algorithm and a truncation algorithm is used to achieve small area and low power. The average percent error of the multiplier is as small as 0.00003% and neglectable for mobile applications. The synthesis result using 0.35um CMOS cell library shows that the number of gates for the truncated multiplier is only 33.8 percent of the conventional radix-4 Booth's multiplier.

  • Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries declared action plan for the electric fishing gear using real name in order to prevent overusing the fishing gear and to reduce discarded fishing gear. It is needed for a technique that can efficiently transmit the information including the type and location of the fishing gear and the user's real name to the fishing boat and the control center using IoT-based communication. The marine tracker buoy system, which is placed on the water for a long time, transmit the position data and the state data of the buoys to the control center in the ground by using NB-IoT channels. In this paper, we propose the algorithm for the low-power operation of the marine tracker buoy system is proposed and test results of current consumption in the marine tracker buoy system with the proposed algorithm is investigated.

  • Lighting that installed in large buildings detects a movement of passer using human-detecting sensor or occupancy sensor. It can turn on lighting automatically using sensor when there is any movement and turn off when there is no movement to reduce unnecessary power consumption. However, there is a problem of malfunction due to improper location of the sensor. Also the case of passage, even after passing through the passage, lighting is turned on for a long time. It does not reduce the power consumption efficiently. In this paper, we propose a method to control lighting by estimating the position of the passer. According to the result simulated in one passage, it is confirmed that the time of turning on the lighting is reduced about 7 minute compared to existing methods.

  • Recently, Unmanned vehicle and Wearable Technology using iot research is being carried out. The unmanned vehicle is the result of it technology. Robots, autonomous navigation vehicle and obstacle avoidance, data communications, power, and image processing, technology integration of a unmanned vehicle or an unmanned robot. The final goal of the unmanned vehicle manual not autonomous by destination safely and quickly reaching. This paper managed to cover One of the key skills of unmanned vehicle is to image processing. Currently battery technology of unmanned vehicle can drive for up to 1 hours. Therefore, we use the Raspberry Pi 3 to reduce power consumption to a minimum. Using the Raspberry Pi 3 and to develop an image recognition system. The goal is to propose a system that recognizes all the objects in the image received from the camera.

Designing a low-power L1 cache system using aggressive data of frequent reference patterns

  • Today, with the advent of the 4th industrial revolution, IoT (Internet of Things) systems are advancing rapidly. For this reason, a various application with high-performance and large-capacity are emerging. Therefore, there is a need for low-power and high-performance memory for computing systems with these applications. In this paper, we propose an effective structure for the L1 cache memory, which consumes the most energy in the computing system. The proposed cache system is largely composed of two parts, the L1 main cache and the buffer cache. The main cache is 2 banks, and each bank consists of a 2-way set association. When the L1 cache hits, the data is copied into buffer cache according to the proposed algorithm. According to simulation, the proposed L1 cache system improved the performance of energy delay products by about 65% compared to the existing 4-way set associative cache memory.

  • Routing technique of wireless sensor network that is presented to improve effectiveness of consumption in energy at the previous study is existing in various ways, however for routing, its own location data and nodes' location data close to with 1-hop distance should be kept. And it uses multi-hop transmission method that transmits data to BS node via several nodes. This technique makes electronic consumption of sensor node and entire network's energy consumption so that it makes effective energy management problem. Therefore, this paper suggests location based 1-hop routing technique of BS node that satisfies distance $d{\pm}{\alpha}$ with source node using RSSI and radio wave range of sensor node.

  • 에너지 소비가 큰 건물은 내부 온/습도, 이산화탄소 농도, 미세먼지 농도 등의 일정 공기 질을 유지하면서 에너지 비용을 최소화할 수 있는 제어계획을 수립하는 것이 필요하다. 기존 건물에서 실내 환경의 운영은 설정된 실내 환경 값을 기준을 벗어나면 설비 기기를 제어하는 방식으로 이루어진다. 이는 단 시간에 고에너지를 투입하여 장비를 가동시키므로 에너지 소모가 크며 peak 전력이 높아 에너지 비용이 크다는 문제가 있다. 따라서 온도를 포함한 환경이 변해가는 상황을 예측하고 사전에 에너지 사용 계획을 수립하여 관리 제어를 수행함으로써 예열부하 등의 불필요한 에너지 손실을 절감하려 한다. 이를 위해 실내 환경이 변화하는 것을 예측하고 후보 제어계획으로 제어를 수행할 때 소요되는 에너지가 어느 정도인지 시뮬레이션하여 제어계획의 적합도를 평가한다. 기존 EnergyPlus와 같은 시뮬레이션 도구는 모델이 복잡하여 시뮬레이션에 많은 시간이 필요하기 때문에 환경 변화를 반영하기 위해 주기적으로 재수립되는 수많은 제어계획 데이터를 단시간에 시뮬레이션하기에 부적합하다. 본 논문에서는 빠른 시뮬레이션을 위해 실제 운영 데이터와 에뮬레이션을 통해 획득한 운영 데이터를 기반으로 학습 알고리즘을 이용하여 제어계획 적용 시의 미래 상황을 예측한다.
