  • The competitiveness of the domestic cosmetics market will improve more rapidly when efficient market segmentation is secured, qualitative information about each of the segmented markets is gathered, and adequate marketing strategies to meet the demands of each segmented markets is established. Therefore, continuous studies are needed to secure qualitative information for market segmentation. In order to find out whether the domestic cosmetics market could be segmented according to consumers' shopping orientation, the present study analyzed cosmetics purchasing behavior, complaint behavior, and demographic characteristics of each consumer group classified according to their shopping orientation. The study was implemented by a normative-descriptive survey method using a questionnaire. Three groups of consumers were identified according to their shopping orientation: price-oriented group, information-oriented group, and brand-oriented group. It was confirmed that the groups, classified according to shopping orientation, have significantly different demographic, purchasing, and complaint behavior. Therefore, shopping orientation should be carefully considered in the segmentation of the cosmetics market.

  • This study aims to classify the pursuit benefits of smart-phone users, to find smart-phone market segments by pursuit benefits, and to analyze the relative importances of smart-phone attributes according to the smart-phone market segments. As a result, we found that smart-phone users are pursuing the network benefit as well as the two traditional benefits (the utilitarian benefit and the hedonic benefit). According to the levels of these three pursuit benefits, smart-phone users can be classified into four segments : All Benefits Cluster, Utilitarian-Network Benefits Cluster, Hedonic-Network Benefits Cluster, and Non-Network Benefits Cluster. We also verified that, according to the four smart-phone user segments by the pursuit benefits, there exist significant differences in relative importances of the seven smart-phone attributes : hand-set price, hand-set brand, hand-set speed, applications, tariff, mobile internet quality, and number of same service users.

  • Classification of estuaries based on their multi-component and multidisciplinary processes is important for the systematic management of estuaries. In this study, an integrated GlS-based analysis system including high resolution aerial photographies and topographic maps was used to classify 463 estuaries based on estuarine circulation pattern, geomorphological feature, natural habitat distribution and characteristics of land use. These estuaries were divided into two basic types, open and closed. Two hundred and thirty five systems were open estuaries comprising of forty one mountainous type (OM), eighty sevcn sandpit type (OS) and one hundred seven funnel type (OF). Each type of open estuary was further classified into three types based on habitat distribution and land use characteristics resulting in total ninc types of open estuaries. Two hundred and twenty eight estuaries were closed systems comprising of one hundred and forty four blocked type (CB directly) and eighty four lake type (CL, indirectly). CB type estuary was further classified into three types based on habitat distribution and land use characteristics. This estuarine classification scheme can be applied to provide a framework for effective management strategies of individual estuaries to estimate the management priority and strategy.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the strategic implication of the Korean open air market by examining the factors affecting customer loyalty for various market segments as their competitive environment becomes more turbulent. We have undertaken empirical research that uses the methodology of a mixture regression modeling, as a way to ascertain the determinants of customer loyalty toward the Korean open air market, which should form the base of strategy for each segment. We construct a mixture regression model which uses perceived the Korean open air market value dimensions as explanatory variables, an income as a covariate variable, and a customer loyalty as a dependent variable. The analysis of results show that customers are statistically divided into four segments: 'Accessibility'(33.7%), 'Price'(29.7%), 'Shopping environment,'(22.0%), and 'Merchandising,'(14.5%) groups. The findings also showed that parameter estimates are different for each group, which indicates that the sensitivity to changes in the Korean traditional market perceived value and the income variable affecting customer loyalty vary among segments.

  • Purpose: The TNM staging system showed limitation in stratifying patients into different prognostic groups with gastric cancer Since the treatment for stage IV gastric cancer with distant metastasis (M1) is defined as non-curative one, we hypothesized that the survival rate of stage IV gastric cancer with M1 is different to that of stage IV gastric cancer with no distant metastasis (M0), which will provide a rationale to subdivide stage IV into IVa and IVb. Materials and Methods: From June 1992 to December 2005, of 1,630 gastric cancer patients who underwent surgery, 308 patients with stage IV gastric cancer were selected and analyzed. The clinicopathologic characteristics and survival of the patients, according to distant metastasis, were determined retrospectively. Median follow-up period was 13 months (range: $1{\sim}154$ month). Results: 5 year survival rate of M0 and M1 group was 35% and 16% respectively with statistic significance (P=0.0000). When the survival rate of M0 group was analyzed according to the difference of T and M factor, T1-3N3M0 and T4N1-2M0 group showed no significant statistical difference (P=0.1898). Conclusion: Given the result in this study, we suggest that the stage IV gastric cancer be subclassified into stage IVa and IVb according to M factor.

  • The purposes of the study are to segment the American family restaurant market based on relational benefits and to compare each group's demographics, dining characteristics, relationship quality(consumer identification, switching costs, satisfaction, commitment), and relational outcomes(positive word-of-mouth intentions and share of purchases). 510 responses were collected from American family restaurant customers and analyzed using frequency analysis, EFA, reliability test, cluster analysis, MANOVA, discriminant analysis, chi-square test, and ANOVA. The results of the study found three different types of relational benefits: confidence, special treatment, and social benefits. The results of cluster analysis identified three market segments, namely, high relational benefits consumers, medium relational benefits consumers, and low relational benefits consumers. The three groups were different in terms of age(p<0.05) and level of education(p<0.05). In addition, high relational benefits consumers showed a higher level of relationship frequency(p<0.001), relationship quality(p<0.001), and relational outcomes(p<0.001), followed by medium and low relational benefits consumers. Overall, the results indicated that family restaurants need to deliver excellent relational benefits to customers in order to achieve desired relationship quality and relational outcomes. Managerial implications were provided.

  • This study was carried out to classify forest vegetation structure of Mt. Gaya from April to October in 2006 using phytosociological analysis methodology of Z-M schools. One hundred study sites(quadrat) were surveyed in the area. The forest vegetation was classified into 3 community groups such as Pinus densiflora community group, Cornus controversa community group and artificial forest group. P, densiflora community group was subdivided into 4 communities such as Rhododendron schlippenbachii community. Salix gracilistyla community, Meliosma oldhamii community and P. densiflora typical community. R. schlippendbachii community was subdivided into Potentilla dickinsii group(subdivided into Carpinus coreana subgroup and Melandrynum firmum subgroup) and R. schlippenbachiitypical group. Cornus controversa community group was also subdivided into 4 communities such as Hovenia dulcis community, Quercus aliena community, Ribes maximowicianum community and C. controversa typical community. Artificial forest type indicated 3 communities such as Larix leptolepis community, Pinus rigida community and Castanea crenata community. Accordingly, the vegetation pattern of the surveyed areas were classified into 3 community groups, 11 communities, 2 groups, and 2 subgroups and the forest vegetation was classified into 13 units in total. It is also believed that C. coreana subgroup and M. oldhamii community could be a source for a significant basic data for making vegetation hierarchy and forest distribution zone in the Korean peninsula. H. dulcis community was also considered to be one of the important genetic resources; therefore, those distribution areas are required to be institutionally protected and managed in the near future.

  • Rural tourism is considered one of the main components of travel today. This may explain the emerging interest in tourist behavior at rural sites. Nevertheless, it can be argued that research on tourists' motivation as well as segmentation for visiting rural sites is still in its infancy. The purpose of this study has three main objectives: (1)to adjust the motivations of rural tourism to the general motivations for all travelers and find the core factors for rural tourists. (2)to show the segmentation of korean rural tourists, and (3)to suggest the characteristics of rural tourists' typology. This paper was conducted through two studies: a literature review and a survey for empirical exploration of the ideas. The empirical data are extracted through convenience, and the valid questionnaires totaled to 828. The Frequency, Descriptive, Factor, Cluster, Discriminant, Cross-tabulation analysis were used for the data analysis. The results of analysis indicate that the rural tourists' motivation is consisted of 14 factors. the key elements play a major role in rural tourism. and the rural tourists' market was divided into 5 different groups. The results of this study will not only contributes to a better understanding of rural tourism due to clarification of tourist motivations but also have implication for the development and management of rural sites.
