There was a significant relationship between global community concept (r=.48, p<.001), multinationalism (r=.42, p<.001), general citizenship (r=.27, p<.001), national identity (r=.32, p<.001) in sub-areas of global citizenship, and cultural competency. Other significant factors were global community concept, multinationalism, and national identity, which explained 29% of cultural competency. The findings indicate that the higher global citizenship, the higher the cultural competency. And global community concept, multinationalism, general citizenship, and national identity in sub-areas of global citizenship affected the cultural competence. Therefore, a cultural competency education program designed for nursing students should focus on these factors for enhancing cultural competency.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the global citizenship education program content system in the context of the 2022 revised home economics curriculum, recognizing the need for global citizenship education. The study is grounded in practical problem-based program. In the analysis stage, the educational trend requiring global citizenship education in the national curriculum was elucidated by analyzing the 2022 revised curriculum documents and future education documents related to global citizenship education. A framework for global citizenship education goals within home economics curriculum was designed. Accordingly, the educational goal of this curriculum, "Cultivation of family competencies linked to global citizenship competencies," was established by posing the perennial question, "As a global citizen, what actions should I take for sustainable choices related to the living environment?" In the design stage, four key ideas in the "Living Environment and Sustainable Choices" domain of the 2022 revised home economics curriculum for elementary school were analyzed to derive practical problems. In the development stage, content elements were derived based on four criteria. This study is significant in analyzing the need for global citizenship education within home economics context by analyzing documents related to global citizenship competencies for the future and examining the 2022 revised curriculum's general framework and home economics education curriculum.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the content areas and competencies of the Family & Consumer Sciences National Standards(NSFCS 3.0) of the U. S. and UNESCO Global Citizenship Education(GCED). For this purpose, the global perspective, content areas and competencies in NSFCS 3.0 and the keywords related to the three areas of content areas of UNESCO GCED were analyzed. Specifically, the content standards and competencies related to the words 'world' or 'global' were extracted and their relationship to the GCED topics and keywords were analyzed. The results of the study are as follows. First, NSFCS 3.0 described the direct correlation between individuals and the world by recognizing individuals as global citizens in 14 areas except for 'interpersonal relations' and 'parenting', specifically using the keyword of 'world' in content standards and competencies. Second, in the content standards and competencies of NSFCS 3.0, the keywords related to the topics of GCED areas were presented evenly in the three areas of FCS, dietary habits, family life, and human development. The social and emotional areas were not presented in clothing, housing, and consumer life. On the other hand, the behavioral area, which is emphasized most in the GCED, is presented in all the FCS content areas. From this, it is apparent that the learning field for GCED may be considered as the area of life pursued by the home economics curriculum. The results of this study provide foundational bases for understanding the relationship between NSFCS 3.0 and the GCED, and implications as to how to implement the content of the GCED in the next revision of the national home economics curriculum of Korea.

  • The purpose of the study was to suggest how and what human rights education goes with civil democracy education. Analysis of civil democracy education contents in the 2022 revised general education curriculum draft and that of the 2030 OECD Education project have been performed to find out what contents are necessarily included. Results are as follows: Firstly, human rights education needs to be adopted as an independent subject to be delivered with detailed and organized information. Secondly, actual experiences in diverse curricular and extracurricular activities need to be provided. Thirdly, a human rights-friendly atmosphere needs to be established to update teachers' perception and upgrade competency regarding human rights education. Lastly, it is expected that these activities facilitate adoption of human rights education curriculum into 2022 general education.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a music teacher training program for global citizenship education and explore its effects on the participants' capacity for global citizenship. The program focused on multicultural education, including diversity and tolerance, among various topics in global citizenship education and consisted of practice to develop lesson plans for middle school music classes as well as theory about music in diverse sociocultural environments. The results showed that this program positively affected the participants' attitudes about a music teacher's role in the multicultural classroom. This program enabled participants to identify and reflect on any prejudice they may have against diversity and multiculturalism and to consider the role of music teachers in multicultural learning environments. The program also helped the participants develop greater self-efficacy as music teachers in multicultural environments and see music as a symbolic expression and a social and cultural product. Finally, the participants showed their positive attitude toward transformative pedagogy and considered various topics in global citizenship education beyond diversity and multiculturalism through multilateral understanding and exploration about music based on theory and practice in global citizenship education.

  • Amid global pandemic of covid-19, Korean government's response has drawn wide attention among social scientists as well as medical studies. The role of Korean state and civil society has attracted particular attention among others. Yet, this paper criticizes extant studies on Korean case which focus on the extensive intervention of the strong state and subjective attitude of Korean citizens in coping with covid-19. The concept of the strong state lacks social scientific specification and subjective citizens do not match with Korean realities. This article argues that Korean state's capacity in collecting and mobilizing digital data may offer better understanding for the successful responses to the pandemic. First, Korean state is the ultimate coordinator in collecting, analyzing and applying big data about the expansion of covid-19 with its huge network of dataveillance. Also, such role has been largely based upon relevant legal framework and well prepared manuals and cooperation with civic actors and companies. In other words, Korean digital dataveillance had demonstrated its transparency and cooperative governance. Second, such dataveillance capacity has deep roots in the long-term development of Korean state's big data management. Korean state has evolved about thirty years while enhancing digital data network within governments, companies and private sectors. Third, the relationship between Korean state's dataveillance and civil society can be characterized as a state centered push model. This model demonstrates highly effective governmental responses to covid-19 crisis but fall short of building social consensus in balancing individual freedom, human rights and effective containment policies. It means communitarian solidarity among citizens has not been a major factor in Korea's successful response yet.

  • This paper aims to examine the relationship between global competence and English learning motivation, thereby finding an effective way to strengthen learners' global competence. Data are collected from 361 freshmen studying in a compulsory English course at H University in Seoul, using a survey with five-point Likert scale. Results reveal that there is a positive relationship between global competence and all four components of English learning motivation(integrativeness, instumentality, intrinsic and external motivation). Especially the correlation between global competence and learners' integrativeness is found to be the highest. Thus, this paper proposes two applicable class activities under the assumption that strengthening integrativeness is the most effective way to promote global competence.
