  • Aside from enriching spirituality, religiously-themed museums play a crucial role in resolving conflicts among the nations peripherally or various cultural groups in a broad sense. Relatively speaking, Korea has achieved a peaceful multi-religious society, yet the 2019 pandemic caused certain religious conflicts to surface or perhaps resurface. Since the 2000, due to the increasing number of migrants, there has been increasing awareness of the need to accommodating even greater levels of religious diversity. Accordingly, this study aims to apprehend various educational programs and exhibitions that have been developed by St. Mungo's Museum of Religious Life and Art, the State Museum of the History of Religion, and the Museum of World Religions in multi-ethnic societies such as the UK, Russia, and Taiwan. Therein, it will be determined how these museums contribute to mutual understanding and interaction and this research will suggest the development of a religiously-themed museum capable of resolving a number of social conflicts and enriching the diversity of its nation.

  • Plants recognize pathogens through intracellular receptors that trigger defense signaling. Nucleotide-binding leucine-rich repeat (NLR) proteins within a cell specifically recognize pathogenic molecules (effectors), leading to signal transduction that ultimately triggers the cell death pathway, thereby inducing effector-triggered immunity in plants. NLR proteins are broadly categorized into two types based on their N-terminal domains: coiled-coil domain NLRs (CNLs) and toll/interleukin-1 receptor (TIR) domain NLRs (TNLs) are defined by their unique N-terminal domains. The TIR domain, which is responsible for activates nicotinamide adenine dinucleoside hydrolases (NADases), is crucial for the degradation of the NAD+ cofactor. TNL-dependent immune signaling involves lipase-like proteins known as Enhanced Disease Susceptibility 1 (EDS1) and its partners Phytoalexin Deficient 4 (PAD4) and Senescence-Associated Gene 101 (SAG101). This immune system also requires helper NLR subfamilies, such as activated disease resistance 1 (ADR1) and N requirement gene 1 (NRG1). The catalytic activity of TIR domain proteins generates various small molecules reported to activate plant's immune responses. These small molecules bind to specific sites on EDS1-PAD4 and EDS1-SAG101, inducing structural changes in the EP domain, and subsequently enabling interaction with ADR1 or NRG1. Here, we will discuss the characteristics of these small molecules and describe their relationships with protein complexes based on their structural and biochemical characteristics. We will also discuss how these small molecules can activate immune pathways.

  • In this study, the distribution of lectin receptors in Paragonimus westermani tissue was explored using colloidal gold label complexed with lectin WGA purified from wheat germ (Triticum vulgare). The lectin WGA gold complex, shown to recognize GlcNAc (N-acetylgalactosamine) and NeuNAc (N-acetylneuraminic acid) regions, was applied to detect binding sites in Lowicryl HM 20 sections viewed under electron microscope. Labeled sections of the metacercaria revealed gold particles specifically distributed on the tegumental syncytium and lamella of the excretory canal. Labeling of young adult tissue was then quantified and compared to that of adult worm tissue. Adult worm tissue sections resulted in specific gold particle distribution on the lamella of caecal epithelium and excretory canal. These results indicate that lectin WGA receptors are located in the tegumental syncytium and lamella of the excretory canal of the metacercariae, and in the lamella of the caecum and excretory canal of the young adult and adult. Therefore, the GlcNAc and NeuNAc regions in the tegumental syncytium appear to be functionally associated with cell-recognition and protection from the immune system of the host, and linked with membrane transport and absorption of nutrients in the lamella of the excretaory canal and caecal epithelia.

  • Background: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the most common benign tumor in older men; the etiology of this disease remains poorly understood. Testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) both act as androgen via a single androgen receptor. Testosterone is converted to DHT by $5{\alpha}$-reductase in prostatic stromal cells. Progesterone has been reported to inhibit DHT conversion; howevwe, its effect on prostatic stromal cells remains to be elucidated. Materials and Methods: In this experiment, we investigated the effect of progesterone on androgen receptor expression induced by DHT. We also tested the effect of progesterone on cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression, as well as prostate stromal cell proliferation using the cell count kit-8. Results: Progesterone did not cause an increase of prostate stromal cell proliferation. The mRNA expression of the androgen receptor and COX-2 were not changed by progesterone; the expressions of androgen receptor and COX-2 proteins were decreased by progesterone in prostate stromal cells. Conclusion: These results suggest that in prostate stromal cells, progesterone decreases androgen receptor protein expression, which results in decrement of COX-2 protein expression. This effect might be mediated by post-transcriptional regulation.

  • In this paper, we investigated the principle of appropriation by which mythology and literature were accepted in the unique religious context of The Canonical Scripture (Jeongyeong 典經). First, we knew that almost all of the gods that appeared in the discourse of Kang Jeungsan (姜甑山) were related to Eastern Yi (東夷) mythology and deeply rooted in folklore. This is because the cultural tendency and historic consciousness of Kang Jeungsan was influenced by Danhakpa (the Danhak School 丹學派). Secondly, when we investigated the acceptance of literature into The Canonical Scripture, we discovered that Tang Poetry (唐詩), Romance of the Three Kingdoms (Sanguoyanyi 三國演義), and Journey to the West (Xiyouji 西遊記) were widely accepted in Kang Jeungsan's discourse. These works were used in diverse ways such as predictions, healing, and meditation. We knew that popular classical work like these were religiously appropriated in the context of The Canonical Scripture. Lastly, we investigated the mechanisms by which mythical and literary imagination was transformed into the Jeungsanist religious movements. Those mechanisms included the magical power of letter and images, sense-cognition of poetry, and the representational ability of mimesis. In conclusion, mythical and literary imagination helped Jeungsanist religious movements gain popularity and spread Kang Jeungsan's soteriology. This is especially true of how it transformed into unique religious techniques which functioned as key elements of the Reordering Works (公事).

  • With the development of artificial intelligence(AI), the jobs of many human experts are threatened, and this also applies to the legal profession. This study attempted to investigate whether AI can actually replace humans in the legal profession, especially the role of judges making final judgments. For this purpose, from the perspective of uniqueness neglect, this study was conducted to confirm the effect of involvement and the severity on acceptance of the judgment made by the AI judge (Experiment 1) and the AI jury (Experiment 2). The involvement was manipulated as if the subject who was sentenced for committing a crime was his or her family (mother, father) or stranger, and the severity was manipulated by the extent of the damage, the perception of the crime, and the number of applied crimes. In Experiment 1, the interactive effect of involvement and severity was found. Specifically, when the involvement was low, the acceptance of AI judges was higher in high severity (vs. low severity). Conversely, when the involvement was high, the acceptance of AI judges was higher in low severity (vs. high severity). The same interactions as in Experiment 1 occurred in Experiment 2. Specifically, when the involvement was low, a larger number of AI jury members were allocated in high severity (vs. low severity). On the other hand, when the involvement was high, the number of AI juries increased in low severity (vs. high severity). This study has implications in that it is the first experimental study in Korea on artificial intelligence legal judgment and that it presents the prospects for the jobs of legal experts.

  • This article is a preliminary essay for comparative study on Lao Zi Note of Park Sae Dang who lived Lee Dynasty in 17C and Hayashi La Zan who lived Doku Kawa Bakuhu in 17C. This article have two points at issue. First one is the their challenge that resisted the dogma of their own age. And the other one is their challenge of thaught had the academic background of the Lao Zi Note. They had a their own Lao Zi Note, Park Sae Dang朴世堂 had a New Note of Lao Zi 新註道德經 and Hayashi La Zan 林羅山 had a Selection Note of Lao Zi 老子抄解. However there are some different points between Park Sae Dang and Hayashi La Zan. The Hayashi La Zan's comprehension of Lao Zi followed in Lao Zi Note of Lin Xi Yi 林希逸 who had a point of Confucian comprehension of Lao Zi, so the study of Taoism of Hayashi La Zan excepted Zhuang zi. Hayashi La Zan concentrated on only Confucian comprehension of Lao Zi because Lin Xi Yi's Note of Zhuang Zi had a point of Zen Buddhism. However Park Sae Dang's the study of Taoism has Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi. He understood Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi in a base on Confucian comprehension. He indicated Confucian moral principle 修身治人 for a equal point of between Confucianism and Taoism. And he understood Cheng Xin成心 in Qiwulun in Zhuang Zi is similar to Xing性 of Xing Shan性善 in Meng Zi. Park Sae Dang analyzed not simply Lao Zi but also Zhuang Zi in a base on Confucian comprehension.

  • This study was carried out investigation of characteristics palace gardens representing historical background, political and cultural identity in Korea, China, and Japan. It had been done a comparative analysis in formation, location and site layout, site composition, landscape elements and planning, landscape technique and vista for palace gardens in East asia's three countries. In order to process this study, Changdeokgung Palace in Korea, Summer Palace in China and Sento Imperial Palace in Japan were selected based on similar status. therefore it provide theoretical foundation to investigate the identity of palace gardens in three countries. Furthermore the study determined homogeneity(similarity) and heterogeneity(differentiation) of the characteristics between palace gardens in three countries through the in-depth comparative analysis in order to investigate identity of palace gardens in three countries and to present the value of Korean palace garden. Homogeneity and heterogeneity between palace gardens in three countries deducted from the study were summarized as follows; First, it shows indigenous style of Korean garden throughout adapting natural terrain without natural destruction. Second, various symbolic elements which ie reflected East asian ideologies present in the gardens. Chinese thoughts and technique were influenced in the development of palace garden in Korea and implemented in similar ways of China. Homogeneity of utilizing waterscape could be found in three countries. Lastly, Palace garden in Changdeokgung had played a role as cultural place with taste for the arts rather than representing authority of the throne. It appears to be similar in China and Japan. The reason how Korea, China and Japan established their own independent style is that each palace garden had been developed to embrace indigenous culture with introduced elements even though they were closely bound up with culture.

  • During the landscape design process, landscape architects produce various forms of drawings to visualize the future designed landscape. This work thoroughly examines the process of the utilization of James Corner's theory and practice of representation. Since the early 1990s, Corner has explored the characteristics and functions of landscape architectural drawing theoretically. Specifically, Corner argued that the use of visual representation makes it difficult to achieve the full embodiment of all of the multisensory characteristics of a landscape. Thus, he explored new drawing techniques that alternatively visualize the landscape and generate creative ideas(i.e., imagination of drawing), rather than a realistic illustration of not-yet-actualized landscapes(i.e., instrumentality of drawing). Corner's theory has evolved throughout the mid and late-1990s as applied to landscape practice. Corner embraced ecology and implemented the theory and practice of Landscape Urbanism, thereby once again emphasizing the instrumentality of drawing. Whereas the early theory mainly explored a perspective view using collage and montage, Corner later began to stress the importance of the instrumentality again. For example, Corner employed a mapping technique based on the instrumental map and that simultaneously creatively transforms it. Corner's theory and practice of representation fully explored the identity of landscape architectural drawings and reflected the interaction between theory and practice. Thus, his design and theoretical works continue to have significant influence on present landscape practice and theory.
