  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the casual relationship between school adjustment, self-esteem and life satisfaction and academic achievement in elementary school students. This study utilized the NYPI's longitudinal data collected on elementary school students nationwide for 2012. Equation Modeling analysis was used to analyze 2,254 5th grade students' data. It was found that school adjustment was positively correlated with self-esteem, life satisfaction and academic achievement. School adjustment was directly associated with academic achievement. It was also confirmed that school adjustment indirectly explained academic achievement through self-esteem and life satisfaction. Future research directions and implications to teacher and institutions were discussed.

  • It has been alerted that Korean students' mathematical affective achievement is very low. In order to solve this problem, various policies related to mathematical affective domains have been promoted, but it is necessary to examine various existing policies and explore the direction for improving them in more essential aspects. Based on previous studies that the growth mindset helps to increase students' affective achievement, this study focused on improving students' math-related growth mindset and ultimately exploring policies that can increase mathematical affective achievement. Therefore, the current status of mathematical affective achievement of Korean students was examined, and the policies and related cases in the mathematical affective domain were investigated. Based on the results, some keywords were derived and then the directions of policy for improving the math-related growth mindset and the affective achievement of students were suggested.

  • CRESST(the National Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards, and Student Testing at UCLA) is now carrying out the research, which was scheduled for a five year period from 2007 to 2011. This research aimed at testing the effectiveness of the formative assessment program by continuously conducting the program on the target group and steadily applying the recurring feedback, in order to reform the teachers' teaching and to facilitate students' learning. To do this, CRESST has set out to develop the material for 7th graders since January 2007, and KICE(Korea Institute of Curriculum and Evaluation) have been running a collaborated research since July 2007, while sharing the instructional materials developed by CRESST. In 2008, the pre-test was conducted prior to this study in 2009. Especially, this paper deals with the Korean 8th graders' scholastic achievements in algebra domain measured by PowerSource(c). In addition, this study would examine the responses of teachers and students on its application.

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the difference between the scoring results by scorer(doctors and standardization patients) and examination dates. A total of 101 students in the fourth grade of medical school participated in four clinical practice test. Students were randomly assigned to either day-1 or day-2, which was consisted of a standardized patient scoring set or a physician scoring set. Station checklists consisted of history taking, physical examination, patient education, physician-patient relationship and clinical courtesy. The achievement scores of each case and each domain were converted to the standard score, and the differences between groups were compared. Female students' achievement scores were significantly higher than male students' achievement scores in all domains. There was no significant difference between means by the standardized patients' group and doctors group. Day-2 group was significantly higher than day-1 group in both of history taking and physical examination domains. If the principles of checklist are clearly defined, the scorer status (either physician or standardized patients) does not determine the difference of students' practice test scores.

  • This study aims to design and implement individual complete learning system based on IPI(Individually Prescribed Instruction) model. Most of current web based learning systems do not consider individual students' ability and just follow the sequence of instructing contents $\rightarrow$ providing problems $\rightarrow$ presenting the result of evaluating. However, this system focuses on individual ability prior to studying subjects. In individual complete learning system, it is acknowledged that a period and a pace to complete each task will differ from students to students, therefore until they complete the whole unit, they are not allowed to move onto the next unit. After completing each unit, there will be a process of evaluating students' performance. It is necessary to show the correct completion of 80% of the evaluation to move onto next step; for those who are evaluated as inadequate to move on, an individual supplementary instruction will be provided. Therefore, this study intends to supplement the deficit of prior learning and provide feedback dependent on individual's learning ability so that the goal of Individual Whole Complete Learning could be accomplished.

  • This study, through the cases occurred in mathematics pencil-paper test, after analyzing the types and the factors of misunderstanding, was to seek to pursue the alternatives to diminish the misunderstanding caused in paper test. When classifying misunderstanding shown in pencil-paper test, four types are found - unsuitable edit, unsuitable organization, formal/typical habits, and unsuitable question situation. One Way, considering accomplishment rate based on existence and nonexistence of misunderstanding factors, the testing paper, that is, type A with misunderstanding factors, showed that the accomplishment rate is 10 percent below the testing paper, type B excluding misunderstanding factors. Also, after distinguishing only items including misunderstanding factors, in comparison with the accomplishment rate, the results showed about 22% difference. And in the type of misunderstanding factor, when system was unsuitable, the degree of misunderstanding appeared seriously. The more complicated many types were, the higher the number of misunderstanding cases appeared. Based on these study results, the conclusions are the followings : First, teachers should try to develop examination papers for exact evaluation. Second, teachers, while students are solving the questions, misunderstanding recognize what are the misunderstanding factors they feel. Third, in the pencil-paper evaluation, the work that teachers should consider importantly, is to analyze students' thought process. Fourth, teachers should try for smooth communications with students.
