  • This research will target the Dental Hygienics students to identify the level and type of the $2{\times}2$ achievement target orientation, and will study how this achievement target orientation is related to the Self-Regulated Learning, as well as the effect on the each sub elements of the Self-Regulated Learning (SRL). Among the $2{\times}2$ achievement target orientation of all the female university students, the skillful approach was found to be highest. In case of the adjustment of the motivation following grade, intrinsic value of the 1st grader was higher than the intrinsic value of the 2nd and 3rd graders. As for the behavior adjustment, the 3rd grader's time and studying adjustment were found to be higher. Mean while, pursuit of the cooperation was found to be high compared to the time and studying adjustment of the1st and 2nd graders. Second, intrinsic value, overt goal orientation, and studying environment adjustment among the SRL's subelements, manifested significant correlation with all the sub elements of the $2{\times}2$ achievement target orientation. As for the elements that affected cognition adjustment, grade and skillful approach were found to exert significant effect on the performance adjustment. As for the element that affects behavior adjustment, grade and skillful approach exerted significant effect on the sub elements of the behavior adjustment. Analysis on the effect of the achievement target orientation and SRL implies that the direction of the students' learning goal can be modified and that they can learn effectively by using the SRL appropriately. When the two elements are factored in carefully, the key findings could serve as a base data that can motivate the students, inducing effective learning process.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify distinctive achievement goal patterns of students and examine their influence on learning strategies (deep/surface) and science achievement. Cluster analysis procedure was performed to classify students on the basis of task, performance, and performance-avoidance goal scores. The results produced 3 clusters of students with different achievement goal patterns: high task goal (cluster 1), high task-high performance goal (cluster 2), and low task-low performance goal (cluster 3). One-way ANOVA results revealed that the scores of cluster 2 were significantly higher than those of clusters 1 and 3 in deep learning strategy. The science achievement test scores of clusters 1 and 2 were higher than those of cluster 3. Looking at surface learning strategy, however, the test scores of cluster 3 were significantly higher than those of clusters 1 and 2. The educational implications of these findings are discussed.

  • This study explored the structural relationship between achievement goal orientation, learning motivation, and level of interest on the level of flow in distance PBL classes. A structural model was constructed through analysis of previous studies. Data for the verification of the structural model were collected from 59 students in the teaching courses. The study took PBL lessons remotely. After the PBL class was ended, flow, achievement goal orientation, learning motivation, and level of interest were measured. The collected data were analyzed using the structural equation model analysis method. As a result, the structural model proposed in this study was verified to be valid. It was verified that the level of interest mediated the influence of achievement goal orientation and learning motivation to influence commitment. Next, it was verified that the path through which the level of interest mediates the effect of achievement goal orientation has the greatest influence. Therefore, it is possible to suggest that the level of flow can be adjusted if the level of interest is adjusted in consideration of the achievement goal orientation of learners when operating distance PBL classes.
