A Study on Analysis Technique for Solenoid Valve Applicable to Military Vehicle Transmission (군용차량 변속기에 적용할 수 있는 솔레노이드밸브 해석기술에 관한 연구)

  • Electronic of military vehicle that had relied on pure machinery system is ongoing. A large part of electronic of small-sized military vehicle has been already commercialized, which will expand to large-sized military vehicle field. Design of solenoid valve for automatic transmission is significantly important for stable driving performance of military vehicle. This research aims to develop simulation method which is capable of predicting performance of solenoid valve quantitatively according to its variation of ATF temperature. The research has been conducted in line with Maxwell, a magnetic field analysis program, and AMESim, a hydraulic analysis program. After simulation, it turned out to have been very similar to the test result in temperature range which excludes high temperature (over $120^{\circ}C$) and extremely low temperature (below $-20^{\circ}C$).

Numerical Study of Gap Size Ratio Effect for Noncondensable Gas Ventilation in Condensers (응축기의 비응축 가스 배출 타입에 따른 틈 간격 비율의 영향에 대한 수치적 연구)

  • A numerical analysis was carried out to estimate the effect of the gap size ratio on the performance of condensers under noncondensable gas ventilation using the porous medium approach (PMA). In the PMA, the details of the tube bundle in the condenser are considered to be those of a porous medium, and the flow resistance term is added in the momentum equation. Three-dimensional analysis of the condensation for a McAllister condenser was conducted with the PMA using Fluent and user-defined functions (UDFs). The gap size effect on the condensation was negligible under pure steam conditions. However, the gap size effect was dominant in condensation with noncondensable gas and external venting. As the gap size decreased, the condensation rate increased for noncondensable gas in an external venting system.

  • The seismic design of solid reinforced concrete bridge columns has been committed to, based on accumulated research and design specifications. The rational confinement model and seismic performance evaluation, however, are insufficient because of the lack of domestic and foreign design specifications about the experimental and analytical difficulties in the case of circular hollow reinforced concrete columns. In this paper, the seismic behavior of circular hollow reinforced concrete columns and its dependence on design variables are understood and explained. These research results can be used to derive the rational and economical design specifications for circular hollow sectional columns based on the result from the nonlinear analysis program, named RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology).

  • Shunt reactor, a facility for reactive power compensation, is switched several times a day depending on the load pattern. When the circuitbreaker opens the shunt reactor over-voltage is generated by several factors which degrade the insulating performance of internal parts of the circuit-breaker and cause severe voltage stress on the equipment in the power system. Transient phenomenon occurring during the switching of shunt reactor are available in laboratories that verify the performance of the circuit-breaker by simulating the power system. However, it is difficult to measure the transient phenomenon that occurs during actual operation in actual power system due to many limitations. Therefore, this paper deals with the modeling using EMTP to analyze the reignition and current chopping which causes more severe transient recovery voltage in the small inductive current breaking in actual power systems. In addition, this paper analyzes the main phenomenon that cause circuit-breaker failure in opening shunt reactor using EMTP model.

Delay Performance Analysis of a Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation Scheme in a GPON (GPON에서 동적 대역할당 방안의 지연성능 분석)

  • In recent year, several types of PON(Passive Optical Networks) have been adopted into the subscriber loops for the high speed subscriber lines to meet the needs of some applications based on the Internet and the rapid increase of the Internet users. GPON(Gigabit PON) is a typical access network technology of these PONs which adopt the DBA(Dynamic bandwidth Allocation) scheme in order to transmit upstream traffic efficiently. In this paper, we introduce the gated polling system with a two-stage queue in order to analyze the delay performance of the DBA scheme in a GPON. We use a continuous time queueing model for deriving the mean cycle time and for obtaining the mean packet delay. We give some numerical results to investigate the delay performance for the symmetric polling system with statistically identical stations.

Performance Evaluation of the Full-Scale Active Mass Dampers based on a Numerical Model and Test (실물크기 능동형 제어장치의 수치모델 및 실험에 기초한 성능 평가)

  • In this study, the experimental test results are given to confirm the control efficiency of the linear control algorithm used for designing the active mass dampers(AMD) which are supposed to be installed at Incheon international airport control tower. The comparison between the results from test and numerical analysis is conducted and it was observed that the AMD showed the control performance expected by the numerical model. The effects of the gain scheduling and constant-velocity signal added to the control signal calculated by the algorithm is identified through the observation that the AMD always show behavior within the given stroke limit without any loss of the desired control performance. The phase difference between the accelerations of the structure and the AMD were almost close to 90 degree, which implies that the AMD absorbed the structural energy effectively.

  • Non-breakaway crashworthy sliding posts move rigidly with a vehicle in the early stage of vehicle impact. During this stage, a vehicle imparts its linear momentum to the post, experiencing first-stage speed loss followed by second-stage loss from the crush of the energy-absorbing pipe (EAP) installed under the guide rail. An EAP is the key element of a crashworthy sliding post and should be confined to the post foundation. This paper covers the development of an EAP for a sliding post of 507 kg, which is a sliding post type frequently used in Korea for cantilever signs. Detailed explanations of the designs for an EAP structure using LS-DYNA impact simulation are given, and the crashworthiness of the systems are confirmed through crash tests. The EAP presented in this paper can accommodate impacts from 0.9 ton-60 km/h to 1.3 ton-80 km/h, and is applicable to foundations up to 2.7 m in length.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate seismic performance of reinforced concrete bridge columns under varying axial force. A computer program, named RCAHEST(reinforced concrete analysis in higher evaluation system technology), for the analysis for reinforced concrete structures was used. Material nonlinearity is taken into account by comprising tensile, compressive and shear models of cracked concrete and a model of reinforcing steel. The smeared crack approach is incorporated. In boundary plane at which each member with different thickness is connected, local discontinuity in deformation due to the abrupt change in their stiffness can be taken into account by introducing interface element. The effect of number of load reversals with the same displacement amplitude has been also taken into account to model the reinforcing steel and concrete. The proposed numerical method for seismic performance evaluation of reinforced concrete bridge columns under varying axial force is verified by comparison with reliable experimental results.

  • A steady-state and dynamic simulation program for a small multi-purpose turboshaft engine with the free power turbine was developed. In order to reduce developing cost, time and risk, a turbojet engine whose performance was well-known was used for the gas generator, and life time was improved by replacing turbine material and by using Larson-Miller curves. The component characteristic of the power turbine was derived from scaling the gas generator turbine. Equilibrium equations of mass flow rate and work were used for the steady-state performance analysis, and the Constant Flow Method(CMF) was used for the dynamic performance simulation. The step fuel scheduling was carried out for acceleration in the dynamic simulation. Through this simulation, it was found that the overshoot of the turbine inlet temperature exceeded over the compressor turbine limit temperature.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the performance of precast concrete segmental bridge columns with shear resistance connecting structure. The system can reduce work at a construction site and makes construction periods shorter. A model of precast concrete segmental bridge columns with shear resistance connecting structure was tested under a constant axial load and a cyclically reversed horizontal load. A computer program, RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures was used. An bonded or unbonded tendon element based on the finite element method, that can represent the interaction between tendon and concrete of prestressed concrete member, is used. A joint element is newly modified to predict the inelastic behaviors of segmental joints. The proposed numerical method gives a realistic prediction of performance throughout the loading cycles for several test specimens investigated.
