  • In this study, eco-friendly hybrid composite boards were manufactured from green tea, three kinds of charcoals and wood fiber for developing interior materials to reinforce the strength performances and the functionalities in addition to performances of the green tea-wood fiber hybrid boards. The effects for the kind and the component ratio of raw materials on mechanical properties were investigated. Bending strength performances of hybrid composite boards were highest in the hybrid composite boards composed of green tea, fine charcoal and wood fiber on average. However, the difference caused by the kind of charcoals was not large. These values were was markedly improved than those of green tea - wood fiber hybrid composite boards reported in previous researches. And it was found that the bending strength performance decreased with increasing component ratios of green tea and charcoals. The difference between urea resins used as the binder showed the higher value in hybrid composite boards using $E_1$ grade urea resin than in those using $E_0$ grade urea resin, but the difference between hybrid composite boards manufactured by both resins decreased markedly than the green tea - wood fiber hybrid composite boards reported in previous research. The internal bond strength of hybrid composite boards was in the order of hybrid composite boards with fine charcoal, activated charcoal and black charcoal, and it was found that the hybrid composite boards with fine charcoal had a similar values to control boards composed of only wood fiber.

  • In this study, the physical and chemical fiber damage caused by knives, scissors, and chemicals was analyzed and used as technical data to determine the cause of the damage. Using 4 types of knives, 5 types of scissors and 4 types of chemicals(Sulfuric Acid, Hydrochloric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Potassium Hydroxide) physical and chemical to Cotton, Wool, Polyester, Rayon, T/C (Polyester 50%, Cotton 50%), T/W (Polyester 50%, Wool 50%) Damages were created and analyzed for damage caused by tools and chemicals. For penetrating damage caused by knives and scissors, 'V' type damage was generally seen when the blade part was penetrated, 'T', 'ㅁ', ''C' type damage was found, and in the case of scissors, 'Y' ' This type of damage was common. Fiber damage caused by chemicals showed various damage such as remanent trace, corrosion, degraded, contracting, and color changes. Physical damage of fibers showed differences in characteristics according to the shape characteristics of tools, and chemical damage showed differences in characteristics according to chemicals and types of fibers.

  • An experimental research investigation of the fracture properties of polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete is reported. Fibers used in this experiment were two types, monofilament and fibrillated polypropylene fibers. Fiber length was 19 mm, and volume fractions were 0, 1, 2, and 3%. Also, as initial notch depths influence the fracture properties of fiber reinforced concrete, the notch depth ratios by specimen height were 0.15, 0.30 and 0.45. The main objective of this experimental program is to obtain the load-deflection and the load-CMOD curves, to investigate the fracture properties of the polypropylene fiber reinforced concretes. Therefore, the flexural specimen testings on the four-point bending were conducted. Then, the load-load point displacement and the load-crack mouth opening displacement curves were measured. The effects of different volume fractions of the monofilament and the fibrillated polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete on the compressive strength, flexural strength and toughness, stress intensity factor, and fracture energy were investigated through the experimental results.

  • HPFRCC(High Performance Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Composite) is a class of FRCCs(Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Composites) that exhibit multiple cracking. Multiple cracking leads to improvement in properties such as ductility, toughness, fracture energy, strain hardening, strain capacity, and deformation capacity under tension, compression, and bending. These improved properties of HPFRCCs have triggered unique and versatile structural applications, including damage reduction, damage tolerance, energy absorption, crack distribution, deformation compatibility, and delamination resistance. These mechanical properties of HPFRCCs become different from the kinds and shapes of used fiber, and it is known that the effective size of fiber in macro crack is different from that in micro crack. This paper reports an experimental findings on the mechanical properties of HPFRCCs reinforced with the micro fiber(PP50, PVA100 and PVA200) and macro fiber(PVA660, SF500). Uniaxial compressive tests and three point bending tests are carried out in order to compare with the mechanical properties of HPFRCCs reinforced with micro fibers or hybrid fibers such as compressive strength, ultimate bending stress, toughness, deformation capacity and crack pattern under bending, etc.,

  • We investigated effects of a compatibilizer on the rheological properties during mixing and thermal properties of polypropylene (PP)-natural fiber composites. Two types of natural fibers (cotton fiber and wood fiber) were compared. maleic anhydride grafted PP was used for a compatibilizer. On increasing the amounts of the compatibilizer, the torque values of composites were increased, regardless of the kind of fibers. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) results showed a slight increase in the degree of crystallinity with adding the compaibilizing agent, while the effects of the kind of fibers were marginal. It may be considered, however, the cotton fiber exhibits better interaction with PP-g-MAH than the natural fiber based on the rheographs, DSC, and XRD results.

  • Warpage of the film insert molded (FIM) part is caused by an asymmetric residual stress distribution. Asymmetric residual stress and temperature distribution is generated by the retarded heat transfer in the perpendicular direction to the attached film surface. Since warpage was not prevented by controlling injection molding conditions, glass fiber (GF) filled composites were employed as substrates for film insert molding to minimize the warpage. Distribution of short GFs was evaluated by using micro-CT equipment. Proper models for micro mechanics, anisotropic thermal expansion coefficients, and closure approximation should be selected in order to calculate fiber orientation tensor and warpage of the FIM part with the composite substrate. After six kinds of micro mechanics models, three models of the thermal expansion coefficient and five models of the closure approximation had been considered, the Mori-Tanaka model, the Rosen and Hashin model, and the third orthotropic closure approximation were selected in this study. The numerically predicted results on fiber orientation tensor and warpage were in good agreement with experimental results and effects of GF reinforcement on warpage of the FIM composite specimen were identified by the numerical results.

  • The purpose of this study were evaluated to flexural and bond performance by sectional area and geometry change through bond and flexural test of a structural synthetic fiber. Six deformed structural synthetic fibers were investigated and pullout and flexural test was conducted. Included parameters is three different geometries of fiber and two of fiber sectional area. The test result shows that the cycles and amplitude of structural synthetic fiber increased, pullout load and pullout fracture energy decreased and flexural strength increased, if sectional area is same. The sectional area increased, pullout load and pullout fracture energy increased and flexural strength decreased, if cycles and amplitude of structural synthetic fiber is same. Based on test results, structural performance of the concrete could know that is influence by pullout performance of fiber as well as various factor (fiber number, material properties etc).

  • Stabilization process is absolutely necessary to convert the precursor fibers into chemically, physically, thermally and structurally stable carbon fibers. Especially, it is critically important for rayon fibers experiencing severe weight loss and thermal shrinkage occurring at the stabilization stage below $400^{\circ}C$. The stabilization of rayon fibers strongly depends not only on stabilization temperature but also on heating rate, chemical pre-treatment, atmosphere, and so on. In the present study, the weight loss, fiber diameter change occurred in the furnace during the stabilization process for rayon fibers produced with various heating rates and in the absence and presence of phosphorous-based flame retardants and the thermal stability of the stabilized fibers were investigated. The result indicates that the weight, diameter and thermal stability of the rayon fibers are significantly affected by the type and amount of the flame retardant used. It is also suggested that the pre-treatment of rayon fibers with a concentration lower than $3\;vol\%$ of phosphoric acid is most desirable for further carbonization process of stabilized rayon fibers.
