Improving Constructability Analysis Tasks by Applying BIM Technology (시공성 분석업무 개선을 위한 BIM 기술의 적용방안)

  • Becoming construction projects larger and more complicated, and utilizing more varied and complex contracting and delivery systems in the industry, integrating information and managing constructability from project inception to completion became the most critical tasks for the successful project management. However, current industry practices of constructability analysis which are too much dependent on field engineers and managers' experiences, are not performed efficiently and also not managed effectively. Then the scope, method, and procedure in performing analysis tasks are not certain as well as not systematic, In addition, due to using 2D based drawings and documents, information required at project phases for the analysis is inconsistent and inaccurate. This study aims to suggest the use of BIM technology and functions for solving various problems of current constructability practices. In particular, constructability analysis tasks performed at design and construction stages are identified and their adaptability, applicability, and benefits of BIM are investigated through interviews on constructability and BIM professionals in the industry.

A Suggestion of Mix, Construction Method and Quality Control Criteria of Fine-size Exposed Aggregate PCC Pavement by Experimental Construction (시험시공을 통한 소입경 골재노출 콘크리트 포장의 배합, 시공 및 품질관리 기준 제안)

  • Surface of fine-size exposed aggregate portland cement concrete pavements(FS-EAPCC) is consist by exposed coarse aggregate to remove upper 2~3mm mortar of concrete slabs. Advantages of FS-EAPCC are maintaining low-noise and adequate skid-resistance level during the performance period. However, FS-EAPCC is required rational management criteria for field application, since it is early stage for application. Design construction and quality control criteria of FS-EAPCC was temporary laboratory tests which including optimum mix and exposing method, selection of adequate aggregate, resistance against, environmental loading and etc. However, these criteria need to be validated base on field application. In this study, experimental constructions were performed and construction procedure and quality control criteria were suggested based on the performance of the FS-EAPCC.

  • Recently, the design-build delivery system is being generalized in domestic construction project. The design-build system is becoming an increasingly preferable alternative to design-bid-build delivering method. In design-build project, however, a large construction company and design firm make up consortium as a design-build contractor rather din single company performs design and construction work. In this case, usually the construction companies take a leading role but due to their lack of managerial t31ow-how in the design-build system, they could miss the merits of this approach. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate throughly the function and information flows all over the design-build project. This research suggests a process model and database in the whole phase of design-build project. This process model and database system will also support to improve the consistency of functional process and minimize incoherent activities of the design-build projects.

  • The contractors which execute the design-build project have difficulties in design management and contract administration in the pre-construction phase because they have managed construction projects focused on only construction phase so far. Moreover, they have to manage the design development stage without any contingency following-up various design revisions from the design reviews of outside experts. Therefore, the design management in the design development stage is a critical success facto. of the design-build project. The objective of this study is to structure the problems in the management skill for design development phase in the domestic design-build projects and to suggest a design development management method to settle the problems. To achieve these objectives, this study 1) analyzes the prior studies about the design-build procurement methods, 2) designs and performs a case study to embody the problems of the domestic design-build projects, and 3) proposes a method of design development management by analyzing the results of case study and interviewing experts.

  • Earth retaining structure is constructed structure in order to construct a multistoried building, the subway, a subterranean downtown for effective use and obtainments of the limited ground. Recently, many kinds of research have been actively developed for a standardization and a database on designing and constructing of bridge, tunnel, road. With the works of database construction of that, many kinds of data with respect to statistics is cumulated. However, Database work of designed and constructed earth retaining structure in the construction field is wholly lacking and lagged behind in the works of database construction. This paper suggested classification system on indication data in connection with designing and constructing earth retaining structures a hundred fields. On the basis of that, code work with classification system was practised and DB program of indication data in connection with designing and constructing earth retaining structures was developed.

  • With the recent changes in building environments such as low-carbon green growth, there have been increasing demands for the new building system that is eco-friendly and can maximize efficiency such as the unit modular system. For the unit modular system, more than 80% of the whole process is carried out in the factory while in the field, mostly unit module assembling and finish work are done. Thus, the quality at the pre-construction stage when design and manufacturing are done determines the quality of the building as a whole. In the country, the unit modular method was first applied in 2003 to school buildings and has gradually expanded afterwards, but due to the lack of examples and related information as well as the small scale of modular manufacturers, its characteristics have not been sufficiently reflected in design, manufacturing and field constructions. This study, as an attempt to improve the design quality of unit modular buildings, points to the problem in manufacturing and field construction, compares and analyzes its causes, and suggests major points to be considered in the early stage of designing the unit modular buildings.

  • In most PFI(Private Finance Initiative) projects in Korea, the project management are in charge of the Special Purpose Company(SPC) established for carrying out the project. This paper is a case study about an owner CM executed by the organizations and staffs of SPC itself. : Seoulbeltway (Ilsan $\~$ Toegaewon) Private Investment Project. In time management area, the SfC was the leader of project management throughout the life circle - plan, design, permit, construction, operation and maintenance - beyond the schedule manager's role. In cost management area, the methods of reducing the total costs by VE, new technologies, etc. has been needed assuming the construction risks were subject to SPC.
