Implementation of Signal Processing Algorithms for an FMCW Radar Altimeter (FMCW 전파고도계의 신호처리 알고리즘 구현)

  • This paper presents signal processing algorithms of a frequency-modulated continuous-wave(FMCW) radar altimeter and provides a practical assessment technique. The radar altimeter is initially operated in search mode, when the radar altimeter detects a valid altitude, search mode is switched to track mode and a altitude being tracked is displayed. The sweep bandwidth in each mode is a function of altitude to narrow the beat frequency bandwidth. In addition, transmit power and receiver gain in each mode are controlled to compensate for the dynamic range of wide altitude range. To assess more realistic operation, the radar altimeter was tested using the crane setup. The crane test demonstrated that signal processing algorithms described in this paper resulted in a reduced measurement error rate.

Design and Performance Evaluation of Superstructure Modification for Air Drag Reduction of a Container Ship (공기저항 저감을 위한 컨테이너선 상부구조물 형상설계 및 성능평가)

  • Reduction of the fuel oil consumption and corresponding greenhouse gas exhausted from ships is an important issue for today's ship design and shipping. Several concepts and devices on the superstructure of a container ship were suggested and tested in the wind tunnel to estimate the air drag reduction. As a preliminary performance evaluation, air drag contributions of each part of the superstructure and containers were estimated based on RANS simulation respectively. Air drag reduction efficiency of shape modification and add-on devices on the superstructure and containers was also estimated. Gap-protectors between containers and a visor in front of upper deck were found to be most effective for drag reduction. Wind tunnel tests had been carried out to confirm the drag reduction performance between the baseline(without any modification) configuration and two modified superstructure configurations which were designed and chosen based on the computation results. The test results with the modified configurations show considerable aerodynamic drag reduction, especially the gap-protectors between containers show the largest reduction for the wide range of heading angles. RANS computations for three configurations were performed and compared with the wind tunnel tests. Computation result shows the similar drag reduction trend with experiment for small heading angles. However, the computation result becomes less accurate as heading angle is increasing where the massively separated flow is spread over the leeward side.

원적외선 곡물건조기 개발

  • 국내 보급되고 있는 곡물건조기는 열풍형 순환식 곡물건조기가 주종을 이루고 있는데, 이건조기의 경우 곡물이 순환하면서 열풍공급과 템퍼링과정을 반복하면서 건조가 이루어지는 대류열전달 방식을 채택하고 있다. 대류열전달 방식은 복사열전달 방식에 비해 열전달률이 낮기 때문에 건조속도와 열효율이 떨어지며, 건조시 미질 향상과 건조비용 절감에 한계가 있어 왔다. 따라서 건조에너지의 절감과 동시에 고품질 쌀 생산을 할 수 있는 새로운 형식의 곡물건조기술을 확립하고자 원적외선 곡물건조기를 개발하였다. 원적외선은 0.56~l,000$\mu\textrm{m}$의 전자파로서 세라믹 도료표면에 열을 가하면 원적외선 파장대의 강한 에너지를 얻을 수 있다. 이같은 원적외선 에너지를 농산물에 조사시키면 열이 침투하게되고 동시에 농산물의 내부온도가 상승함에 따라 활발한 분자운동을 하면서 수분을 표면으로 이동시키기 때문에 열풍건조방법에 비해 열전달효율이 높고, 농산물을 보다 균일하게 건조가 가능하므로 좋은 품질의 쌀을 생산할 수 있는 특징을 가지고 있다. 시작기는 1회 3,800kg을 건조할 수 있도록 설계하였고, 템퍼링실, 건조실, 열풍실, 승강기 등으로 구성되었다. 원적외선 방사체의 형태는 실린더형이고, 방사체가 설치된 열풍실 위쪽은 타공망, 아래쪽은 방사량을 높이기 위하여 일부 개방된 구조로 제작하였다. 본 연구에서 구명된 원적외선 방사체 길이와 조사거리는 각각 1,470mm, 125mm가 적절한 것으로 나타났다. 시작기의 성능시험을 열풍건조기(대비구)와 비교한 결과 소음은 대비구에서의 94.12dB보다 13% 가량 낮게 나타났고, 건조온도를 45$^{\circ}C$로 설정하고 벼를 건조했을 때 건감률 0.58%,wb로 대비구의 0.47%,wb 보다 23% 높았고, 건조소요에너지도 470kcal/kg - water로 2%의 절감되었다. 또한 건조한 벼를 도정하여 색, 냄새, 윤기, 찰기 등에 대한 관능검사결과는 원적외선 건조방법이 종합기호도가 6.37으로 열풍건조방법 6.13보다 우수한 평가를 받았다. 건조비용은 시작기의 구입가격이 20% 비싸기 때문에 시간당 고정비가 높았으나, 건조성능이 우수하여 건조비용이 69,350원/톤으로 대비구보다 14% 절감되는 것으로 나타났다.

An Experimental Study on the Flexural Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Columns Strengthened with Wire Rope and T-Shape Steel Plate units (와이어로프와 T형 플레이트에 의해 보강된 RC 기둥의 휨 거동에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • The objective of the present study is to evaluate the flexural behavior of reinforced concrete columns externally strengthened with wire rope and T-shape steel plate units. Three strengened columns and a control unstrengthened column were tested under cyclic lateral load simultaneously subjected to a constant axial load. All columns had same section size, and the arrangement of longitudinal reinforcement and internal hoop. The spacing of wire rope range from 40 ${\sim}$ 80mm, which corresponds from 1.0 ${\sim}$ 0.5, respectively, times the minium amount of hoop specified in seismic design of ACI 318-05. Test results showed that the proposed unbonded-type strengthening procedure is very effective for improving the flexural ductility of reinforced concrete columns.

  • Lap splices were located in the plastic hinge region of most bridge piers that were constructed before the adoption of the seismic design provision of Korea Highway Design Specification on 1992. This research aims at evaluating the seismic performance of reinforced concrete bridge piers with lap-spliced longitudinal steels, which were strengthened with prestressed steel jacket in the plastic hinge region. Quasi-static test was used to investigate the seismic performance enhancement of RC test specimens. Conventional method applied mortar grouting inside steel jacket, but this research did not apply mortar grouting inside steel plate. Four test specimens in an aspect of 3.5 were constructed with 400 mm in diameter and 1600 mm in height. Test parameters are the lap splice of longitudinal reinforcing steels and thickness of steel jacket.

Bearing Capacity of Soft Ground Reinfoced by Geosynthetics and Sand Mat (토목섬유와 SANDMAT로 보강한 지반의 지지력 연구)

  • In order to improve the bearing capacity of soft ground for the purpose of getting a trafficability of construction vehicles, the geosynthetics-sandmat system has often been used. Yamanouchi had proposed the equation of calculating the bearing capacity about this kind of bearing mechanism, which has a soft ground-geosynthetics-sandmat system. The bearing capacity equation by Yamanouchi has been widely using in our country. However this equation includes an important contradictory concept because if the contact width of vehicles is incresed to reduce the contact pressure, the bearing capacity is decresed on the contray according to this equation. In order to investigate this contradictory concept, the bearing capacity test has been performed on the soft model ground with geosynthetics-sandmat system. From the test results about various kinds of models, the principle that explain the contradictory concept has been found and on the basis of this principle the new bering capacity equation has been proposed by modifying Yamanouchi equation.

  • Electric pole foundations for overhead catenary system of railroad should be designed so that they may resist significant overturning moment but relatively small vertical forces. Also they should have proper shapes to be installed at restricted narrow areas adjacent to railroad track. In this paper the moment responses of rectangular pole foundations according to their shapes were investigated numerically. A three-dimensional finite element method was developed and verified so that the numerical behaviors of the foundation resisting the overturning moments were compared reasonably well with those from an existing real-scale load test. The influences of aspect ratio, varying section with depth and loading directions for rectangular section were investigated using the developed numerical method. From the numerical results, the optimized shapes of pole foundation for more effective and economic installation adjacent to railroad track are proposed.

  • This paper presents the technology for the design, fabrication, and characterization of a microfluidic system interface (MSI); the purpose of this technology is to enable the integration of complex microfluidic systems. The MSI technology can be applied in a simple manner for realizing complex arrangements of microfluidic interconnects, integrated microvalves for fluid control, and optical windows for on-chip optical processes. A microfluidic system for the preparation of genetic samples was used as the test vehicle to prove the effectiveness of the MSI technology for packaging complex microfluidic systems with multiple functionalities. The miniaturized genetic sample preparation system comprised several functional compartments, including compartments for cell purification, cell separation, cell lysis, solid-phase DNA extraction, polymerase chain reaction, and capillary electrophoresis. Additionally, the functional operation of the solid-phase extraction and PCR thermocycling compartments was demonstrated by using the MSI.

  • Recently, there are lots methodologies to improve the quality of research in medical and public health fields. One of them is to checking a process of research with a reporting guideline before reporting paper. Especially, reporting guideline for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) is the consolidated standards of reporting trials (CONSORT). Therefore, this review describes the latest version of the CONSORT statement, CONSORT 2010, including intent, background, and contents of this. The CONSORT statement comprises a checklist of essential items that should be included in reports of RCTs and a diagram for documenting the flow of participants through a trial. This report guideline aims at providing guidance to authors about how to improve the reporting of their trials. As consulting the CONSORT, authors could be strictly reported about research methods and results. From this review, we expect to elevate the quality of such research about dental hygiene and to establish the foundation for evidence-based dental hygiene.

Study for the Development of a Main Oxidizer Shut-off Valve for Liquid Rocket Engines (발사체 연소기용 산화제 개폐밸브의 핵심요소 기술 개발)

  • A main oxidizer shut-off valve (MOV) controls the supply of cryogenic liquid oxygen to the combustion chamber of liquid rocket engines by on/off operations. The main subjects to be introduced are not only the valve transient response during valve on/off procedures but also the characteristics of pneumatic and seat/poppet parts as core technologies in the development of the MOV, which is expected to be adopted for the Korea Space Launch Vehicle II. It is shown that the analytical prediction of the transient valve travel is in good agreement with experimental results. Friction and elastic forces on the valve moving part are quantitatively evaluated by structural analysis.
