Estimating Concrete Compressive Strength Using Shear Wave Velocity (전단파 속도를 이용한 콘크리트의 압축강도 추정연구)

  • Compressive strength of concrete has been regarded as a very important parameter of the quality control both in new and existing concrete pavement. It has been used a lot as the concrete strength evaluation both in the various-mixture-using laboratory and construction field using the same mixture. An error usually occurs in the test experiments of the strength, even in the test experiments with evenly mixed and compacted specimens of the compressive strength. It is caused by the 'manually operated' compressing testing, or by the specimens preparation with eccentricity. When compressive strength of evenly mixed concrete is investigated by the curing ages at the construction field, there have to be lots of specimens. And it needs much labor and cost. To substitute the endlessly repeated test experiments of compressive strength, presumption of compressive strength, by nondestructive tests, is needed. In this study, elastic waves were used among various nondestructive tests. Compressive strength of concrete was presumed according to the curing ages, by using the shear wave velocity which is not affected by restricted conditions. In the result, shear wave velocity is very closely related to the compressive strength at the evenly mixed concrete.

Effects of Dietary Bio Ethanol By-product and Complex Enzyme on Meat Quality of Pork Loin (바이오 에탄올 부산물 DDGS와 복합 효소제 첨가급여가 돈육의 품질 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary complex enzyme (${\beta}$-mannanase 800 IU/kg and xylanase 700 IU/kg) in a diet containing corn distiller's dried grain with soluble (DDGS) on meat quality and pork fatty acid composition. Ninety-six pigs ([(Landrace${\times}$Yorkshire)${\times}$Duroc], with an average body weight of 68.77 kg were used in the 8 wk growth assay. Dietary treatments included 1) corn-soybean meal diet, 2) corn-soybean meal diet + 0.05% enzyme complex, 3) cornsoybean meal diet with DDGS and 4) corn-soybean meal diet with DDGS + 0.05% enzyme complex. The pigs were allotted randomly into pens (n=4 per pen) with six replicate pens per treatment by a completely randomized design. Pigs were slaughtered at the end of the experiment and the loin muscle was obtained for meat quality. Meat pH (p<0.01), firmness (p<0.01) and redness (p<0.05) were higher in DDGS-supplemented diet than in the corn-soy bean meal diet. However, color, marbling, lightness, yellowness, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, water holing capacity, driploss, cooking loss and loin muscle area were not significantly different among the diets. The pigs fed the DGGS-supplemented diet had higher total unsaturated fatty acids (UFA) and total UFA/saturated fatty acid (SFA) ratio of loin and backfat. The results indicate that a diet containing DDGS can influence pH, firmness, redness and total UFA concentration and total UFA/SFA ratio of meat and backfat, but that enzyme addition has no affect on meat quality.

Assessment of Fatigue Life of Out-Of-Plane Gusset Welded Joints using 3D Crack Propagation Analysis (3차원 피로균열 진전해석을 통한 면외거셋 용접이음의 피로수명 평가)

  • The estimation of the fatigue design life for large welded structures is usually performed using the liner cumulative damage method such as Palmgren-Miner rule or the equivalent damage method. When a fatigue crack is detected in a welded steel structure, the residual service life has to be estimated base on S-N curve method and liner elastic fracture mechanics. In this study, to examine the 3D fatigue crack behavior and estimate the fatigue life of out-of-plane gusset fillet welded joint, the fatigue tests were carried out on the model specimens. Investigations of three-dimensional fatigue crack propagation on gusset welded joint was used the finite element analysis of FEMAP with NX NASTRAN and FRANC3D. Fatigue crack growth analysis was carried out to demonstrate the effects of aspect ratio, initial crack length and stress ratio on out-of-plane gusset welded joints. In addition, the crack behaviors of fatigue tests were compared with those of the 3D crack propagation analysis in terms of changes in crack length and aspect ratio. From this analysis result, SIFs behaviors and crack propagation rate of gusset welded joint were shown to be similar fatigue test results and the fatigue life can also be predicted.

The study of developing the freezing seal isolation method for the pre insulated heat transfer pipe (이중보온 열수송관에 대한 동결차수공법개발에 관한 연구)

  • A lot of piping systems have been used from nuclear power systems to water supply systems. The maintenance of the piping systems is needed to ensure proper operation of the piping systems. Failure of the large pipe systems especially such as KDHC(Korea District Heating Corporation) can be a matter directly related to the enterprise productivity and profitability. It can also lead to very important issues in promoting public safety and convenience. Therefore a method of quick and safety repairs have been emerged as the most important problem. In this study, freezing seal isolation method using liquid nitrogen cryogenic refrigerant was developed for the maintenance of a pre insulated heat transport pipe of KDHC with a diameter of 300 mm. In this study, by employing computational analysis techniques we performed the flow and heat transfer analysis for the targeted pre insulated heat transfer pipe and freezing seal jacket(ice-Plug) and have selected for optimal system. The detailed design model based on the results of the computational analysis finally was produced. A laboratory-scale test apparatus were designed and the freezing seal isolation self-test carried out. Also the performance assessment tests in the test bed of KDHC were carried out for on-site application.

  • 철강은 기본적으로 강도가 우수하고 그 매장량이 풍부할 뿐만 아니라 대량생산이 가능하다 또한 다른 금속과 합금을 구성하여 또 다른 특성을 부여할 수 있기 때문에 현재 전 세계 금속 생산량의 95%를 차지할 정도로 많이 사용되며, 각종 산업과 기술이 발달함에 따라 그 중요도는 점점 더 커져가고 있다. 하지만 철강은 사용 환경 중 부식에 의해 그 수명과 성능이 급격히 저하되기 때문에 내식성을 향상시키기 위하여 도장이나 도금 등의 표면처리를 포함한 다양한 방법이 적용되고 있다. 그 중 철강재의 도금 표면처리방법은 주로 아연을 이용한 용융도금이나 전기도금 등과 같은 습식 프로세스가 널리 사용되고 있다. 여기서 아연은 철보다 이온화 경향은 크나 대기 환경 중 산소와 물과 반응하여 Zn(OH)2와 같은 화합물을 형성함으로써 철강재 표면상 부식인자를 차단(Barrier)함은 물론 사용 중 철 모재가 노출되는 결함이 발생하는 경우에는 철을 대신하여 희생양극(Sacrificial Anode) 역할을 하기 때문에 철의 부식방식용 금속으로 가장 많이 사용되고 있다. 한편 최근에는 철강의 사용 환경이 다양해짐은 물론 가혹해지고 있어서 이에 따른 내식성 향상이 계속해서 요구되고 있는 추세이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 철강재의 내식성을 향상시키기 위한 일환으로 현재 많이 사용되고 있는 용융아연도금 강판 상에 아연보다 활성이 높은 마그네슘(Mg)을 건식 프로세스 방법 중에 하나인 PVD(Physical Vapour Deposition)법에 의해 코팅하는 것을 시도하였다. 일반적으로 PVD법에 의해 진공증착하는 경우에는 그 도입가스로써 불활성가스인 아르곤(Ar)을 사용하는 경우가 대부분이나 여기서는 상대적으로 비활성이면서 그 크기가 작은 질소(N2)가스를 도입하여 그 증착 막의 몰포로지는 물론 결정구조도 제어하여 그 내식특성을 향상시키고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 철강재의 내식성을 향상시키기 위한 방법으로 마그네슘(Mg)를 PVD(Physical Vapor Deposition)법 중 진공증착법(Vacuum Deposition)을 사용하여 용융아연도금 강판 상에 마그네슘 증착 막을 형성하였다. 즉, 여기서는 진공증착 중 질소(Nitrogen, N2)가스를 도입하여 진공챔버(Vacuum Chamber)내의 진공도를 $1{\times}10^{-1}$, $1{\times}10^{-2}$, $1{\times}10^{-3}$, $1{\times}10^{-4}$로 조절하며 제작하였다. 또한 제작된 시편에 대해서는 SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope) 및 XRD(X-Ray Diffraction)을 사용하여 형성된 아연도금상 마그네슘 막의 표면 몰포로지 및 결정구조의 변화를 분석함은 물론 침지시험, 염수분무시험, 분극시험을 통해 이 막들에 대한 내식특성을 분석 평가하였다. 상기 실험결과에 의하면, 진공 가스압이 증가됨에 따라 마그네슘 막의 두께는 감소하였으며, 그 몰포로지의 단면은 주상정(Columnar)에서 입상정(Granular) 구조로 변화하며 표면의 결정립은 점점 미세화 되는 경향을 나타냈다. 이때의 표면의 결정배향성(Crystal orientation)은 표면에너지가 상대적으로 큰 면이 우세하게 나타나는 경향이 있었다. 또한 본 실험에서 형성한 진공증착 막은 비교재인 용융아연도금강판보다 우수한 내식성을 나타냈고, 본 형성 막 중에는 마그네슘 막 두께가 작음에도 불구하고 질소 가스압이 가장 큰 조건일수록 내식성이 우수한 경향을 나타냈다. 이상의 결과는 철강재의 내식성 향상을 위한 응용표면처리설계에 기초적인 지침을 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Evaluation of Formaldehyde Emission from Wood-Based Panels Using Accelerated Collection Method (가속 포집방법을 이용한 목질보드류의 폼알데하이드 방출량 평가)

  • This study aimed at developing an accelerated collection method that reduces measurement and collection time by improving and complementing the desiccator method, which is mainly used for quality control in wood-based panels and furniture production sites. First, this study measured the formaldehyde emissions from the wood-based panels by grade using the desiccator method. Further, this study compared the desiccator method with the developed process and analyzed the correlation in optimal temperature, time, and exposed area. The results showed that the developed process resulted in relatively similar outcomes in comparison to the desiccator method when the temperature was $100^{\circ}C$, the time was 1 h, and two specimens were used, at which the correlation was high. To verify the developed process, this study commissioned Korea Conformity Laboratories with the standardized temperature, time, and the number of specimens to compare them with the specimen that was not used in the actual test. As a result, the correlation to the desiccator method was shown to be very high. However, the formaldehyde emission measured by the accelerated collection process was mostly higher than that measured by the desiccator method. The formaldehyde emission grades from several specimens were one level higher. However, from the perspectives of quality control, it was determined that the accelerated collection method developed in this study could be sufficiently used.

Development of Environmental Safety Real-Time Monitoring System by Living Area (생활권역별 환경안전 실시간 모니터링 시스템의 개발)

  • In this paper, a real-time monitoring system for environmental safety by living area is proposed. The proposed system is designed to measure radiation, fine dust and basic living information (temperature) using fixed and mobile measuring equipment, and constitutes a web database that stores data received from the equipment. It also develops web programs for displaying received data on PCs and mobile phones. The results of testing the performance of the system by an authorized testing agency showed that the radiation measurement range was measured in the range of $10{\mu}Sv/h$ to 10mSv/h, which is comparable to the world's highest level, and that the accuracy was measured between ${\pm}6.7$ and ${\pm}8.7$ percent of the measurement uncertainty was measured and normal operation at or below the international standard of ${\pm}15$ percent. In addition, the temperature test was conducted on a section of $-20^{\circ}C$ to $50^{\circ}C$ and normal operation was confirmed in response to the temperature change. Stability of radiated electromagnetic waves was ensured by a suitable judgment. The product's testing in general and high and low temperature environments for about four months after the prototype was made confirmed to be more than five years of durability. The measurement range and accuracy of fine dust sensors are compared with those of companies that measure the air environment, and the performance level is similar through the air quality measurement register.

Design of Truck Escape Ramps (자동차 긴급 피난 차선의 계획 설계)

  • This synthesis has been prepared from a review of literature on Truck Escape Ramps technology and a survey of current practice by state department of transportation. Their locations have been determined usually from a combination of accident experience and en-gineering judgement, but new tools are emerging that can identify needs and sites without waiting for catastrophic accidents to happen. The Grade Severity Rating Systems holds promise in this regard. Design Procedures for truck excape ramps continue to evolve. Gravel arrester beds are clearly the preferred choice across the country Rounded aggregate, uniformly graded in the approximate size range of 13 to 18mm. Tech-nical publications typically have dassified TER types as paved gravity, sandpile, and ar-rester bed ramps. The design speed for vehicle entry into the ramp in critical to the deter-mination of ramp length. An escape ramp should be designed for a minimum entry speed of 130km/hr, a 145km/hr design being preferred. The ramps should be straight and their angle to the roadway align-ment should be as possible. The grade of truck escape ramps show the adjustment of ramp design to local topography, such as the tradeoff of ramp length against earthwork requirements. A width of 9 to 12m would more safety acommodate two or more outof con-trol vehicles. Reguarding comments on the most effective material, most respondents cited their own specification or referred to single graded, rounded pea gravel. The consensus essentially Is that single graded, well -rounded gravel is the most desirable material for use in arrester beds. The arrester beds should be constructed with a minimum aggregate depth of 30cm. Successful ramps have used depths between 30 and 90cm.

Behaviors of the High-profile Arch Soil-steel Structure During Construction (높은 아치형 지중강판 구조물의 시공 중 거동 분석)

  • The metallic shell of soil-steel structures are so weak in bending moment that it should sustain the applied load by the interaction of the backfill soil around the structures. The shell can be subjected to excessive bending moment during side backfilling or under live-load when the soil cover is less than the minimum value. The current design code specifies the allowable deformation and Duncan(1979) and McGrath et al.(2001) suggested the strength analysis methods to limit the moments by the plastic capacity of the shell. However, the allowable deformation is an empirically determined value and the strength analysis methods are based on the results of FE analysis, hence the experimental verification is necessary. In this study, the full-scale tests were conducted on the high-profile arch to investigate its behaviors during backfilling and under static live-loads. Based on the measurements, the allowable deformation of the tested structure could be estimated to be 1.45% of rise, which is smaller than the specified allowable deformation. The comparison between the measurements and the results of two strength analyses indicate that Duncan underestimates the earth-load moment and overestimates the live-load moment, while McGrath et al. predicts both values close to the actual values. However, as the predicted factors of safeties using two methods coincide with the actual factor of safety, it can be concluded that both methods can predict the structural stability under live-loads adequately when the cover is less than the minimum.

Consolidation Behavior of Soft Ground by Prefabricated Vertical Drains (페이퍼드레인 공법에 의한 연약지반의 압밀거동)

  • The large scaled field test by prefabricated vertical drains was performed to evaluate the superiority of vertical discharge capacity for drain materials through compare and analyze the time-settlement behavior with drain spacing and the compression index and consolidation coefficient obtained by laboratory experiments and field monitoring system. 1. The relation of measurement settlement($S_m$) versus design settlement($S_t$) and measurement consolidation ratio($U_m$) versus design consolidation ratio($U_t$) were shown $S_m=(1.0{\sim}1.1)S_t$, $U_m=(1.13{\sim}1.17)U_t$ at 1.0m drain spacing and $S_m=(0.7{\sim}0.8)S_t$, $U_m=(0.92{\sim}0.99)U_t$ at l.5m drain spacing, respectively. 2. The relation of field compressing index($C_{cfield}$) and virgin compression index($V_{cclab.}$) was shown $C_{cfield}=(1.0{\sim}1.2)V_{cclab.}$, But it was nearly same value when considered the error with determination method of virgin compression index and prediction method of total settlement. 3. Field consolidation coefficient was larger than laboratory consolidation coefficient, and the consolidation coefficient ratio($C_h/C_v$) were $C_h=(2.4{\sim}3.0)C_v$. $C_h=(3.5{\sim}4.3)C_v$ at 1.0m and 1.5m drain spacing and increased with increasing of drain spacing. 4. The evaluation of vertical discharge capacity with drain spacing from the results of the consolidation coefficient ratio showed largely superior in case the Mebra drain and Amer drain than other drain materials at 1.0m and 1.5m drain spacing, while the values showed nearly same value in case same drain spacing.
