  • This paper aims to analyze the satisfaction level of people for the different types of tree burial sites, in order to suggest directions for the policy to revitalize tree burials. For the purpose of this study, the tree burial sites were classified into four types, and we conducted a questionnaire, targeting 414 visitors to the different case sites. Through the comparative analysis among the case sites, this study found that people prefer the public tree burial sites to the private ones, and most people liked the type of tree burials best created in a natural forest among the public sites. Based on these results, this study suggested that the policy should be focused on the revitalization of public tree burial sites created especially in natural forests in order to satisfy the preference of people. Through the analysis of the questions regarding the general citizens' awareness of tree burials, this study found the improvement measures are required for convenience facilities, low satisfaction for usage charge, low credibility for private tree burial sites, and strong demands to create stable growth environment for memorial trees. On the other hand, this study confound the bright prospect for the spread of tree burials because people who have used tree burial sites were highly willingness to recommend tree burial sites to others and they wanted to do a tree burial for their own funerals.

  • This paper proposes a management method for a coastal black pine forest landscape considering the parallax effect. For the study, 10 coastal black pine forests in Gangneung were investigated about the average width of the coastal forests, the average diameters, and the intervals of the pines. Categorizations were realized for the 3 types of scene(sea, field, mountain, residential area, commercial area), diameter(16cm, 22cm, 28cm) and interval(5m, 7m, 10m) to produce a total of 45 scenic simulations. An investigation was made on the scenic preferences using 45 simulation images with S.D, and Likert Scales. The results were as follows: According the comparison of scenic preferences, natural landscapes(sea, field, and mountain) ranked high among preferences, with fabricated landscapes(residential area, commercial area) ranked low. The highest scenic preferences were shown with the seascape and an interval of 7m between the trees. On the contrary, the interrelationship was very low between the visual quantity of the scenic's elements(green, sky, building, road etc.) and the scenic preferences. As the results of the factor analysis, the 3 sense factors of "Depth(78.0%)" "Diversity(l5.6%)" and "Spatiality(6.4%)" explained coastal scenic preferences. "Spatiality" showed significant differences at intervals of 5~7m, and 10m between trees. This shows coastal forest management based on the interval of 10m standard affecting scenic preference.

  • We studied the habitat sites of Siberian flying squirrel in Guhak-ri, Sillim-myeon, Wonju-si, Gangwon-do from March to April in 2009. We were found total 30 points of inhabitation trace types; nests 15 points(Tree nest types were 13 points, used Tree hole types hole types were 2 points) and droppings 15 points. We observed 3 individuals of Siberian flying squirrels and founded that 2 individuals of them used tree holes, and another individual used tree nest which were located in branches of Pinus densiflora. Most utilized nest trees of Siberian flying squirrel were Larix leptolepis, and also used Pinus densiflora, Betula davurica, Styrax japonica, Cornus controversa, Acer mono. Droppings trees were Prunus sargentii, Cornus controversa, Quercus xmccormickii, Acer palmatum, Acer palmatum, Betula davurica. Through the observation, we defined that flying squirrels mainly used Conifer trees as nest sites, and decideous trees as droppings.

  • The demand for National Woodland Burial Grounds is expected to increase as interest in natural burial, including woodland burial, is increasing. This study was performed to provide evaluation criteria applying weighting factors to the evaluation for location selection. Through literature review, location selection evaluation factors for forest facilities, similar to forest welfare facilities, were reviewed and analyzed. As a result of the analysis, 74 preliminary evaluation criteria were selected. Based on the results, three expert groups (public servants in central and local governments and other public agencies in charge of forest welfare facility, related field researchers, and civil experts) reviewed the preliminary evaluation factors. Evaluation factors were classified into two categories, 6 sub-categories, and 22 segments. The selected evaluation factors were layered for the second preference survey. They were classified into Forest Environment and Human Environment, and those categories were further classified into three categories. Then they were further classified into segments. After segmentation, the experts who participated in the first survey checked the differences in the significance of the layered factors by utilizing AHP. The site evaluation criteria table was prepared using the evaluation criteria and the significance of each layer. In order to apply it to the candidate sites, 10 sites including the existing National Woodland Burial Grounds and 9 candidate sites considered in the previous studies were compared and analyzed including Ulju County Ulsan City, Suncheon City Jeollanam-do and Janggun-myeon Sejeong City.

  • This study was carried out for the description of the conflicts on the measurement of the root collar diameter of the landscape trees that are currently being produced, distributed, and planted in S. Korea, and for determination of the standard for root collar diameter measurement. The difference in consciousness of appropriate measurement of root collar diameter among different ages of landscape practitioners was statistically significant at p<0.05 level. It seemed to be due to the difference in the amount of field experiences among different age groups. On "the ambiguity of measuring the root collar diameter' of landscape trees", the consciousness was significantly different at p<0.05 level among job positions. On "Improvement of measurement criteria for landscape trees," it was significantly different at p<0.05 level among job types. This was thought to be due to the disagreement between the client and the contractor. On "prevention of topsoil removal" when excavating landscape trees, the consciousness was significantly different at p<0.001 level among different age groups, and different at p<0.01 level among different occupations, and different at p<0.05 level among different working area. The consciousness on "removing top soil when excavating landscape trees and rooting after transplantation" was not significantly different. The consciousness on the conflict caused by "ambiguity in root collar diameter measurement criteria" was high with an average of 3.85 for job type, occupation, jop position, and work experience. It was higher for landscape contractors than public institutions. The higher job positions and more experiences, the more conflicts. The consciousness on the appropriate position of root collar diameter measurement for landscape trees revealed that measuring at above-ground part (66.5%) was prefered to the underground part (33.0%). During the excavation of landscape trees for transplant, topsoil removal up to average depth of -2cm to -4cm was favored by 84.0%, and the purpose of removing topsoil was recognized as 'to increase the size and unit cost' by 59.7%.

  • We investigated the host preference of Ricania app. at different developmental stages to select the effective control methods. Ricania spp. at different developmental stages preferred different host plants. During the nymphal period, individuals moved to the bottom due to environmental factors such as wind and rain, rather than inhabiting trees, and fed on various plants ranging from 1 year-old herbaceous plants to shrubs. Especially, at Palbong Mt. in Gonju, Ricania spp. nymphs preferred Symplocos chinensis f. pilosa, Celastrus orbiculatus, Euonymus alatus, Kalopanax septemlobus, Aralia elata, Styrax japonicas, Rubus parvifolius, Ru. coreanus, Ru. crataegifolius, Quercus acutissima, Cornus officinalis, Lespedeza bicolor, Albizia julibrissin, L. maximowiczii, Rhododendron schlippenbachii and Rh. indicum. At Yongbong Mt. in Hongseong, Ricania spp. adults preferred herbaceous plants, such as Helianthus annuus, Solanum nigrum, and Oenothera biennis rather than trees during the pre-oviposition stage. Subsequently, as the oviposition season began, Ricania spp. adults were rarely found in H. annuus, S. nigrum, or O. biennis and appeared to migrate to the perennial trees and shrubs hosts to lay eggs. At Palbong Mt., the main laying hosts of Ricania spp. adults were Weigela subsessilis, Ailanthus altissima, Q. aliena, Boehmeria platanifolia, Diospyros lotus, Ziziphus jujubae var. inermis, St. japonicus, Prunus mume, P. serrulata var. spontanea, Spiraea prunifolia f. simpliciflora, Ru. crataegifolius, Salix koreensis, Ru. yedoense f. poukhanense, and Co. controversa. The degree of egg laying, number of egg masses and adult Ricania spp. were significantly higher in sunlit areas than in shaded areas, in addition, the lower the altitude, the more adults were present. This study contributes toward the development of traps that can attract and control Ricania spp. and reduce the density of Ricania spp. that disturb the ecosystem.

  • A purpose of this study, after identifying the status and type of changes derived elements that make up the Seowon(書院); landscape space and the space of the during the recent World Heritage, focusing promote the newly introduced trees listed in the important value, authenticity and integrity aspects The results can be summarized as follows. The results can be summarized as follows. Appeared trees in various old documents are 10 species; Prunus persica (L.) Batsch, Prunus mume(Siebold) Siebold & Zucc., Salix koreensis Andersson. The planting space shows regularity of some degree depends on the status of the species, essentially 3 types of Juniperus chinensis L., Lagerstroemia indica L., Phyllostachys nigra(Lodd.) Munro are primarily located in inside of seowon(書院), Zelkova serrata (Thunb.) Makino., Salix koreensis Andersson is in out side of seowon(書院). 5 types of location space to species such as Juniperus chinensis L., Ginkgo biloba L. species are the most frequently appear and it can be national representative trees. Plants which have limited vitality is a factor to prove a history of seowon(書院), it is accord with authenticity aspects that it gives meaning of symbolic to canonized figure's preference Maintenance work carried out over the years has damaged to origin of tree and thoughtlessly planted without having to go through a thorough historical research has resulted in weakening the presence of the essential space. It should preserve to features originally it have is figure reflect the viewpoint of the transformed current private to reveal the history of the various places. In conclusion, this research continues to study at the spatial dimension like a building in limited to panted, and also determine the intrinsic value of the overall spatial configuration.
