  • Experiments were conducted to evaluate a experimental model developed for the protein removal by foam separation. The foam separator was operated in well-mixed tank which would be considered as a completely mixed condition. The feasibility of foam separation to remove protein from sea water was investigated. Protein removal characteristics of the foam separator were obtained by batch experiments. To find the effect of the operating parameter to protein removal rate, the foam separation was carried with variation of initial protein concentration and superficial air velocity. The result indicated that the protein removal efficiency was increased with increasing protein concentration and superficial air velocity. The relationship between operation parameters and protein removal rate were evaluated by non-linear regression as the form of exponential function, Using both relationships, the simplified model was determined. The simplified foam separator operation model was verified by the batch operation. The simulation results showed a good relationship with the experimental data.

  • In recent years global climate change of hurricanes and torrential rains are going to significantly, that increase damages to property and human life. The disasters have been several claimed in every field. In future, climate changes blowing are keen to strike released to the world like in several movies. Reducing the damage of long-term weather phenomena are emerging with predicting changes in weather. In this study, it is shown how to predict the red tide phenomenon with multiple linear regression analysis and artificial neural network techniques. The red tide phenomenon causing risk could be reduced by filtering sensor data which are transmitted and forecasted in real time. It could be ubiquitous driven custom marine information service system, and forecasting techniques to use throughout the meteorological disasters to minimize damage.

  • This study was performed a series of the isotropic compression-expansion tests and the drained triaxial tests with various the relative densities 25%, 50%, 80% and 100% for Baekma river sand. Using the tests results the characteristic of the parameters of Lade's single hardening constitutive model were investigated. The soil parameters Kur and n representing elastic behavior are not much affected by the change of the relative density. The other parameters such as failure criterion (m, ${\eta}_1$), hardening function (C, p) and plastic potential (${\Psi}_2$, ${\mu}$) are in a positive linear relationship with the relative density. Since the soil parameters h and $\alpha$ representing yield function do not change much to the change of relative density and also closely related to failure criterion, they can be replaced by failure criterion ${\eta}_1$. We also observed that predicted values from the Lade's single hardening constitutive model were well consistent with the observed data.

  • Recently, accelerated chloride diffusion coefficients are used for an evaluation of chloride behavior. Similar as apparent diffusion coefficients, accelerated diffusion coefficients decrease with time. In this study, decrease in diffusion coefficient with time is simulated with porosity. Utilizing DUCOM-program, porosities from 15 mix proportions are obtained and diffusion coefficients are modelled with regression analysis of porosity for 270 days. Considering non-linear binding capacity which means the relation between free and bound chloride ion, chloride behavior in high performance concrete is evaluated. Through utilizing the previous test results for concrete under chlorides for 180 days, the applicability of the proposed technique is verified. The proposed technique is evaluated to reasonably predict the chloride behavior in concrete with various w/c (water to cement) ratios and mineral admixtures (GGBFS and FA). It is also shown that decrease in chloride diffusion should be considered for chloride prediction in concrete with mineral admixture since it has very clear decrease in diffusivity with time.

  • The objective of this paper is to numerically assess the behavior of tubular X-joints with an internal ing stiffener, and to evaluate the reinforcement effect of a ring stiffener, and to establish the strength formulae. Nonlinear finite element analysis is used to compute the static strength of axially loaded tubular joints. Numerical and experimental results are in good agreement for tubular X-joints. The chord lengths of simple and ring-stiffened X-joints are suggested to reduce chord end effect. And, internal ring stiffener is found to be efficient In improving static strength of tubular X-joints. Maximum strength ratios are calculated as $1.5\sim3.5$. Regression analyses are performed considering practical size of ring stiffener and strength estimation formulae for tubular X-joints with an internal ring stiffener are proposed.

  • In this paper, we develop simplified finite element (FE) models for butt-, lap- and T-welded joints by performing numerical and experimental experiments. Three-point bending tests of butt- and lap-welded specimens are performed to obtain the stiffness of the specimens and the strains at points near the welding beads. Similarly the stiffness and strains of T-welded specimen are measured by applying a point load at the end of the specimen. To develop simplified FE models, we consider the shape parameters of width, thickness and the angle of weld elements in the numerical simulations. The shape parameters of the simplified FE models are determined by building linear regression models for the experimental data sets.

  • This paper presents a seismic fragility analysis method for a cable-stayed bridge with energy dissipation devices. Model uncertainties represented by random variables include input ground motions, characteristics of energy dissipation devices and the stiffness of cable-stayed bridge. Using linear regression, we established demand models for the fragility analysis from the relationship between maximum responses and the intensity of input ground motions. For capacity models, we considered the moment and shear force of the main tower, longitudinal displacement of the girder, deviation of the stay cables tension and the local buckling of the main steel tower as the limit states for cable-stayed bridge. As a numerical example, fragility analysis results for the 2nd Jindo bridge are presented. The effect of energy dissipation devices is also briefly discussed.

  • This study aimed to find the effects of early childhood teachers of interpersonal relationship ability and ego-resiliency on psychological well-being. The Subjects, 243 early childhood teachers, answered the Interpersonal Relationship Ability Scale, Ego-Resiliency Scale, and Psychological Well-being Scale. The results were as follows; First, there were positive correlations between total and subscale scores of interpersonal relationship ability and psychological well-being of early childhood teachers. Also, there were positive correlations between the total and subscale scores of ego-resiliency and psychological well-being of early childhood teachers. Second, from multiple linear regression analyses of the variables, ego-resiliency had more significant influence on the psychological well-being of early childhood teachers than interpersonal relationship ability.

  • The aim of this research is to estimate the values of biological kinetic parameters of pharmaceutical wastewater for understanding biochemical properties. Maximum specific growth rate (${\mu}m$), yield coefficient (Y), and half-velocity coefficient (KS) were determined using oxygen uptake rate (OUR), and the results were 10.49/day (0.437/hr), 0.655, and 38.89 mg/L, respectively. Measured ${\mu}max$ by nonlinear regression of Monod equation was 10.63/day (or 0.443/hr), and this value was similar with above result. These parameters may be used to increase efficiency of pharmaceutical wastewater treatment and to determine amount of oxygen needed to removal BOD and dissolved oxygen in activated sludge process.

  • This paper presents a new adaptive macroblock quantization algorithm which generates the output bits corresponding to the target bit budget. The H.264 standard uses various coding modes and optimization methods to improve the compression performance, which makes it difficult to control the amount of the generated traffic accurately. In the proposed scheme, linear regression analysis is used to analyze the relationship between the bit rate of each macroblock and the quantization parameter and to predict the MAD values. Using the predicted values, the quantization parameter of each macroblock is determined by the Lagrange multiplier method and then modified according to the difference between the bit budget and the generated bits. It is shown by experimental results that the new algorithm can generate output bits accurately corresponding to the target bit rates.
