  • In this paper, three coordinated random beamforming (CRBF) schemes are analyzed in a two-cell symmetric interference channel. A simple partial coordination of RBF with base station selection (BSS) is shown to achieve the same average sum rate performance of CRBF with joint encoding (JE). To improve the sum rate performance further, we also propose a transmission mode selection (TMS) between the BSS and JE which is shown to have additional sum rate gain for the large number of users. Simulation results verify the eectiveness of the proposed CRBF schemes and accuracy of the proposed analysis.

  • Broadcast nature of wireless medium and path-loss reduction create a favourable condition for collaborative communications (CC) among single-antenna users to gain the powerful benefits of multi-antenna system without the demand for physical arrays. This paper proposes a CC strategy adapting to the propagation environment changes by optimizing the transmit signal amplification factors to simplify the structure of maximum likelihood (ML) detector and to obtain the minimum error probability as well. The closed-form BER expression was also derived and compared to the simulation results to evaluate the performance of the suggested solution. A variety of numerical results revealed the cooperation significantly outperforms non-cooperative counterpart under flat Rayleigh fading channel plus AWGN (Additive White Gaussian Noise).

  • Multi-user MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) systems require collaborative PF schedulers to improve the performance of the log sum of average transmission rates. While the performance of single cell based conventional PF schedulers has been evaluated over various channel conditions, scheduling algorithms by multiple base stations which select multiple users over a given time frame and their performance require further investigations. In this paper, we apply a collaborative PF scheduler to the distributed multi-user MIMO system, which assigns radio resources to multiple users by exchanging user channel information from base stations located in three adjacent sectors. We further evaluate its performance in terms of the log sum of average transmission rates. The performance is compared to that of the full-search collaborative PF scheduler which searches over all possible combinations of user groups, and that of a parallel PF scheduler that determines users without channel information exchange among base stations. We show the log sum of average transmission rates of the collaborative PF scheduler outperforms that of the parallel PF scheduler in low percentile region. In addition, the collaborative PF scheduler exhibits a negligible performance degradation when compared to the full-search collaborative PF scheduler while a significant reduction of the computational complexity is achievable at the same time.

  • In this paper, we propose a cooperative channel sensing scheme in the presence of feedback errors. Accurate local sensing results may not directly be applied to cooperative sensing due to feedback errors. We consider the cooperative channel sensing that utilizes local sensing results in good feedback channel condition. Finally, simulation results show that the proposed scheme can maximize the detection probability while guaranteeing desired false alarm probability.

  • In this paper, coordinated space division multiple access(SDMA) technology is proposed to mitigate inter-cell interference by using partial channel state information in cooperative wireless communications system with limited feedback. Each AT selects an optimal cluster transmission mode and sends it back to a cluster scheduler, and at the cluster scheduler, ATs are scheduled within a AT group with the identical cluster transmission mode, and the optimal transmission mode and the corresponding scheduled ATs are determined to maximize scheduling priority. Also, in order to enhance multiuser diversity gain, an extended transmission feedback method is proposed to feed back multiple preferred cluster transmission modes at each AT. It is shown that the proposed coordinated SDMA scheme outperforms existing non-coordinated SDMA schemes in terms of the average system throughput.

  • This paper analyzes the role of strategic fit, cooperation, and performance in small-sized subpart suppliers' interactions with large businesses. For this purpose, this paper analyzes survey data from 90 first-tier suppliers of Samsung Electronics and evaluates how strategic fit and cooperative relationships affect their performance. Empirical analysis suggests that strategic fit positively affects small companies' business and innovation performance. This finding aligns with theories arguing for strategies that accommodate specific business environments. In addition, strategic fit is crucial for innovativeness of SMEs (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises). With regard to forming relationships with large companies, findings also show that high quality technological and personnel cooperation boosts subpart suppliers' productivity and efficiency as notably reflected in SMEs' business performance. Moreover, such cooperation between small and large companies reinforces the benefits associated with strategic fit and innovation. This means that if the business environment of small-sized subpart suppliers is uncertain, harnessing differentiated strategies and pursuing collaborations with prime companies will produce innovative outcomes (e.g., increased patent publications). On the other hand, when degree of uncertainty is small, pursuing cost leadership strategies and collaborating with prime companies in areas, such as technology and personnel, will help small-sized subpart suppliers produce innovative outcomes. Based on these findings, this paper argues that choosing the right competitive strategy for a specific business context is intrinsically tied to (1) augmenting technological and human collaborations with prime companies, (2) improving the quality of these interactions, and (3) generating competitiveness among small subpart suppliers. Both competition and cooperation are necessary for strengthening the competitiveness of small companies.

  • This paper addresses a cooperative transmission scheme based on Alamouti coding for cognitive radio networks over frequency selective fading channels. In the proposed scheme, the Alamouti coded form at the destination node is constructed through a simple combination of symbols at the source node, instead of the time-reversal operation and the conjugate operation at the relay nodes used in the conventional scheme. Numerical results show that the proposed scheme achieves a higher order cooperative diversity than that of the conventional scheme.

  • Firms must focus on innovative activities via R&D investment in order to secure competitive advantage and sustainable growth. However, their innovative activities do not always result in successful outcomes and are often obstructed by uncertainty and non-appropriability of technology being developed and by insufficient internal resources and capabilities to tap into it. In this situation, collaboration with external partners can be a part of good alternative strategy to solve those problems. This paper aims to analyze what factors lead to Korean manufacturing companies’ decision to collaborate with external partners for technology innovation. For empirical analysis, we used the Korean Innovation Data compiled by STEPI, government-funded research institute in Korea. The research findings are: 1) firms tend to participate in external collaboration for product innovation with greater firm size, more past collaboration experiences and when they belong to high-tech industries 2) unlike our expectation, our chosen ‘innovation-impeding’ factors are found not to contribute to the enhancement of collaboration for product innovation.
