  • In MC-CDMA systems effects of delay spread of the channel are reduced with increased symbol duration by simultaneously transmitting data symbols on the parallel subcarriers. However, the increased symbol duration causes the system to be more vulnerable to time selective fading. In this paper, we investigate the effects of time selective fading characteristics of the mobile channel from the viewpoint of desired signal power to inter-carrier interference power ratio at the combiner output of the MC-CDMA receiver.

  • Recently, data traffic is significantly increased by high rate data service. As a result, radio spectrum is considered one of the most scarce and valuable resources for wireless communications. For the solution of this problem, cognitive radio(CR) has been proposed as an efficient means to opportunistic spectrum sharing between primary (licensed) users and cognitive radio users. In this paper, user selection scheme in CR networks is proposed for additional consideration of secondary system. The proposed user selection scheme mitigates interference to primary user by using orthogonal channel vectors while improves performance of secondary system. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves 1.62bps/Hz higher average throughput of whole system than one of the existing scheme.

  • For the fault diagnosis of three-phase induction motors, we propose a diagnosis algorithm based on mutual information and linear discriminant analysis (LDA). The experimental unit consists of machinery module for induction motor drive and data acquisition module to obtain the fault signal. As the first step for diagnosis procedure, DFT is performed to transform the acquired current signal into frequency domain. And then, frequency components are selected according to discriminate order calculated by mutual information As the next step, feature extraction is performed by LDA, and then diagnosis is evaluated by k-NN classifier. The results to verify the usability of the proposed algorithm showed better performance than various conventional methods.

  • Powerline communications (PLC) is a promising medium for network access technology where smart grid aided network services can be provided. In the presence of frequency selective fading in the PLC channel, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is a technique for reliable communications. This paper presents a spectral efficient method using a superimposed hidden pilot for OFDM-based PLC systems. Based on the scheme using a hidden pilot, it is possible to estimate the channel with no consumption of bandwidth, but with utilization of power allocated to the hidden pilot. Computer simulations showed that the proposed scheme provides higher achievable data rate than that of the conventional schemes in low voltage and medium voltage transmission lines.

  • This article presents a band-stop filter (BSF) by using a periodic structure property of frequency selective surfaces (FSSs) embedded in a microstrip transmission line. The proposed BSF is designed with FSS unit cells modifying the cross-loop slots. The BSF is interpreted with an equivalent circuit model and a dispersion diagram. The center frequency (fo) of the BSF is 6.6GHz. Proposed filter increases the number of unit cell. As a result, 3dB bandwidth is wider and insertion loss is reduced. Also, Facbricated BSF exhibits uniplanar geometry, simple fabrication.

펄스 직류 전원 플라즈마를 이용한 갈륨비소와 갈륨알루미늄비소 화합물 반도체의 선택적 식각 연구

  • 염소와 불소 혼합가스와 펄스 직류 전원 플라즈마를 이용하여 GaAs/$Al_{0.2}Ga_{0.8}As$의 선택적 식각을 연구하였다. 식각 주요 공정 변수는 혼합 플라즈마에서 불소 가스의 유량(0~50%) 이었다. 다른 공정 조건은 공정 압력, 펄스 파워, 펄스 주파수, 리버스 시간이 이 있다. 저진공(~100 mTorr) 플라즈마에 대한 연구로 한정하여 기계적 펌프만을 사용하여 공정을 진행하였다. 오실로스코프(Oscilloscope) 데이터에 의하면 가스의 조성 변화에도 척에 걸리는 입력 전압과 전류가 거의 변화가 없었다. $BCl_3/SF_6$플라즈마에서 $SF_6$가스가 10%의 조성에서 GaAs와 $Al_{0.2}Ga_{0.8}As$의 식각 선택비가 약 50:1로 우수한 결과를 나타내었다. 혼합 플라즈마에서 $SF_6$가스의 증가는 GaAs의 식각율과 선택도를 감소시켰다. 그리고 불소 성분 가스의 조성비가 일정량 이상일 경우에는 GaAs와 $Al_{0.2}Ga_{0.8}As$가 거의 식각되지 않았다. 위의 결과들을 종합적으로 보면 펄스 직류 전원 $BCl_3/SF_6$플라즈마에서 불소의 조성비는 GaAs의 선택적 식각에서 중요한 역할을 함을 알 수 있었다.

Phase Tracking for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Systems (직교 주파수 분할 다중화 시스템을 위한 위상 오차 추적)

  • This paper proposes the algorithm for tracking of the residual phase errors incurred by carrier frequency offset and sampling frequency offset in the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems which are suitable for high data rate wireless communications. In the OFDM systems the subcarriers which are orthogonal to each other are modulated by digital data and transmitted simultaneously. The carrier frequency offset causes degradation of signal to noise ratio(SNR) performance and interference between the adjacent subcarriers. The errors in the sampling timing caused by the sampling frequency difference between the transmitter and the receiver sides also cause a major performance degradation in the OFDM systems. The residual error tracking and compensation mechanism is essential in the OFDM system since the carrier and the sampling frequency offset cause the loss of orthogonality resulting in the system performance loss. This paper proposes the scheme where the channel gain and the payload data information are reflected in the residual error tracking process which results in the reduction of the estimation error and the tracking performance improvements under the frequency selective fading wireless channels.

  • In this paper, we present a new wavelet transform-based CELP coder, called band selection wavelet transform CELP (BS-WTCELP) operated at 4.8 kbps. The proposed algorithm uses a band selection scheme of frequency bands of wavelet transform and selective vector quantization (VQ). The band selection and selective VQ structure is implemented by using a classified VQ structure. The proposed algorithm has about 0.5-1.0 dB improvement in segmental SNR compared with the conventional CELP that uses the random codebook search, while is has significantly reduced computational and storage complexity. Many experimental results have shown that the proposed algorithm is more suitable for most real-applications than the conventional CELP and wavelet transform CELP.

  • Using the carry-select adder scheme, an adder with small number of stages can be operated as fast as an adder with large number of stages. In this paper, a 4-block 5-stage 32-bit pipelined carry-select adder is designed and implemented. The proposed adder operates as fast as a conventional 16-stage 32-bit pipelined adder while the number of registers required is nearly same as a conventional 4-stage pipelined adder. This adder is operated at 1.67GHz clock frequency in a standard 0.25um CMOS technology with 2.5 V supply voltage.
