  • Recently, High Tensile Steel is adapt to thin plate on the steel structure and marine structure is used widely. It is possible for buckling happens great. Specially, Initial deflection of ship structure happens in place absence necessarily by heat processing of welding or cutting etc. This Initial Deflection is exerted negative impact when thin plate absence complicated nonlinear behaviour accompanied secondary buckling. As a result, must idealize initial deflection that occurrence is possible to endow stability and accuracy in the hull structure or marine structure and reflect in early structure design considering secondary buckling. Longi direction of compressive load interacts and analyzed finite element series analysis that apply various kinds initial deflection shape measured actually on occasion that is arranged simply supported condition in this research. Applied ANSYS (elasto-plasticity large deformation finite element method) to be mediocrity finite element program for analysis method and analysis control used in Newton-Raphson method & Arc-length method.

  • The structural model of midship section is within the scope of STEP AP218. It supports to represent the ship structure, but most of shipyards and classification societies exchange the information using 2D drawings at the present. To translate the 2D information into the ship structure model of STEP AP218, we analyze the 2D midship section information of KR-TRAS of Korean Register of shipping, and include the transverse members information with the 3D model. We also define the mapping table and the mapping relationships between two data structures. With this mapping table we develop the translator for the midship section, and visualize the translated ship structure model using a STEP viewer. The ship structure model can be used to exchange information between design departments, and through the lifecycle of design, analysis, and maintenance.

  • Added masses of two-dimensional cylinders of curvilinear-element sections with chines, which are similar to marked V character ship sections with either single or double chines, oscillating at high frequency in a free surface of an ideal fluid are calculated for both vertical and horizontal vibration by employing two particular two-parameter families of the conformal transformation. The numerical results are graphically presented in the forms of added mass coefficient curves in terms of the sectional area coefficient and the half beam-draft ratio together with the section contours derived with the employed transformations, and discussed in comparision with those of the Lewis forms and of straightline-element sections with single chine for vertical vibration, and, for horizontal vibration, with those of the Lewis forms.

  • Wake distribution data of stem flow fields have been accumulated systematically by model tests. If the correlation between geometrical hull information and wake distribution is grasped through the accumulated data, this correlation can be helpful to designing similar ships. In this paper, Neuro-Fuzzy system that is emerging as a new knowledge over a wide range of fields nowadays is tried to estimate the wake distribution on the propeller plan. Neuro-Fuzzy system is well known as one of prospective and representative analysis method for prediction, classification, diagnosis of real complicated world problem, and it is widely applied even in the engineering fields. For this study three-dimensional stern hull forms and nominal wake values from a model test ate structured as processing elements of input and output layer, respectively. The proposed method is proved as an useful technique in ship design by comparing measured wake distribution with predicted wake distribution.

  • A weld scallop is a small quadrant or half circle type hole installed in the weld line cross area for easy welding operation. Many types of T-bars with a scallop can be welded in a block assembly stage in shipbuilding. The difficulties arise from the fact that scallops are to be filled by build-up welding after welding of the cross line is complete. In this study, a non-scallop block joint welding method was developed using special type CBM (ceramic backing material). The wedge shaped CBM was devised to insert a CBM into just the V groove of weld line cross area without weld scallop. A saw-toothed shape was adopted for easy cutting of the unnecessary part in the CBM fitting process. The applicability of the developed method was verified through welding experiments based on the yard welding conditions.

  • This study was carried out to examine the prediction of ship's manoeuvrability in initial design stage. New parameter representing basic hull form and stern shape were proposed. Captive model test were carried out to investigate the correlation coefficient between hydrodynamic coefficient and hull parameter. The results showed which parameter are positive correlation with hydrodynamic coefficient. Moreover correlation was examined between sternhull shape and ship's manoeuvrability. These results can be used to predict a ship's manoeuvrability in initial design stage.

  • It is necessary to estimate more accurately the resistance of barge in still water and waves to compute the break load of towline and towing power for safety towing performance. The method proposed by government has calculated the total resistance of barge which is composed of frictional resistance, wave making resistance and air resistance considering the shape of hull and towing speed. However, the added resistance is equally applied with the significant wave height regardless of the type of vessels. In this study, we have carried out the numerical calculation to estimate the added resistance of wigley model in waves and compared with the experiment data to confirm the accuracy of the method. Then the computation was executed for the barge varying shape of the bow. As a result, added resistance of barge was differently occurred i.e. 0.3∼1.1 ton according to encounter angle, 0.4∼1.2 ton according to towing speed and 0.5∼1.1 ton according to shape of bow.

  • A study on the optimization problems to find forebode shapes with minimum wavemaking and frictional resistance was performed. The afterbody was fixed as a given hull and only forebode offsets were treated as design variables. Design variables were divided into the offsets of given hull and small variation from them. For the wavemaking resistance calculation, Neumann-Kelvin theory was applied to the given hull and thin ship theory was applied to the small variation. ITTC 1957 model-ship correlation line was used for the calculation of frictional resistance. Hull surface was represented mathmatically using shape function. As object function, such as wavemaking and frictional rersistance, was quadratic form of offsets and constraints linear, quadratic programing problem could be constructed. The complementary pivot method was used to find the soulution of the quadratic programing problem. Calculations were perfomed for the Series 60 $C_{B}$=0.6. at Fn=0.289. A realistic hull form could be obtained by using proper constraints. From the results of calculation for the Series 60 $C_{B}$=0.6, it was concluded that present method gave optimal shape of bulbous bow showing a slight improvement in the wave resistance performance at design speed Fn=0.289 compared with the results from the ship theory only.

  • The paper deals with the effectiveness of various special rudders on course stability of a ship. We adopted five types of rudder, such as one normal rudder and four special rudders, which contain two rudders with concave and convex strips on sides respectively, one flapped rudder, and one rudder with end plates on tips. In the circulating water channel, model test was carried out for measuring lift characteristics of the rudders in open water. And various captive model tests were also carried out for measuring the experimental constants related with helm angle and steering in hull-propeller-rudder system. From the test results, the changes in manoeuvring hydrodynamic derivatives due to adoption of normal and special rudders were predicted. Then course stability performances of a ship with normal and special rudders were evaluated and discussed. As a result, it is clarified that the rudder with concave or convex strips and flapped rudder have no effect on course stability, while the rudder with end plates improves course stability with effect. The result in this study is expected to be used usefully when the course stability is in issue and has to be improved without amendment of hull design at initial design phase or after construction of a ship.
