Lab scale experimental study was carried out for SBR process, to investigate the effects of influent ship sewage organic compound removal and Bacillus sp. state on design parameters. This process was able to remove nitrogen and phosphorus as well as organic matter efficiently. More than 95% of chemical oxygen demand(COD) were removed. In addition, about 97% of total nitrogen (T-N) was reduced. The total phosphorus(T-P) reduction averaged 93%. The performance load of SBR process was shown to be $0.095kg{\cdot}TOC/m^3{\cdot}day$. The pH was decreased from 8.1 to 7.0 within 30 min and increased to 7.3 at the end of anoxic stage, and these phenomena were explained. The sludge produced in the SBR process is characterized by low generation rate (about $0.36kg{\cdot}MLSS/kg{\cdot}TOC$) and excellent settleability. The number of Bacillus sp. in the SBR was 24.2%, indicating that Bacillus sp. was a predominant species in the reactor.
To increase the safety of onboard evacuation of guests who is unfamiliar with onboard living conditions, this study measured and compared the onboard walking speeds of 81 participants on a passenger ship, I t were found that the walking speeds at corridor on navigation were slower than those at berth by 27.2%, and the speeds of walking on the corner on navigation were slower than those at berth by 23.2%. This means that the ship motion on navigation directly influenced walking speeds. The walking speeds of upward-stairs and downward-stairs were measured to be 0.71m/s and 0.75m/s, respectively. From the crowd counter-flow experiments, because of the narrow space between participants, the walking speeds were decreased as person after person. And it was clear that the group's walking speeds were determined by the walking speeds of leading person(s) of the group. The walking speeds obtained this study were different from those of IMO guideline(MSC/Circ 1033).
It is very important to remove the noise levels made by an electric home appliance and machines they are located in the auditory region. The noise of ship engine room is known as it is not easy to lower so the working environment of the engine room is the worst condition because the improvement for the noise seemed insignificant and the hearing loss is occurred. As the monitoring equipment and an intelligent control system are improved rapidly the main engine of the ship can be enclosed with an acoustic barrier and any other absorbtion equipment. In this study, the sound absorbtion barrier is experimentally researched by change the volume and the length of the neck for the Helmholtz resonator as the resonator can absorb the noise effectively.
This paper describes on the design of Passive-type Radar Reflector for small Ship (PRR-S) based on the newly revised 2000 SOLAS regulations. The design idea, adopted in the study, is to hold PRR-S in the proper ‘catch rain’ position to avoid fluctuations of Radar Cross Section (RCS) due to ship's heeling. The PRR-S consists of octahedral-type radar reflector with circular plates and three-axis gimbaled stabilizer with weight on the bottom of outer gimbal ring. Performance test for the PRR is carried out in an anechoic chamber. The test results show that the reflected radar signal from PRR-S is more uniformly distributed than the reference model (Davis Echomaster).

In this paper, a developed device for detecting target's location and avoiding collision is proposed. Velocity and acceleration model of target are derived to estimate target's information, i.e. position, velocity and acceleration considering process and measurement noise. Kalman filtering method applied to the estimation process and its results was confirmed by simulation. The distance measurements system using laser sensor for moving target system is also developed to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. Experiments to get information of moving target with velocity and acceleration model was executed. The data with filtering and without filtering was compared by experiments. Discontinuous measured data was changed to smooth and continuous data by Kalman filtering. It is confirmed that desired data was obtained by applying proposed scheme. UI for measuring and monitoring the target data is developed and visual and auditory alarm function is attached on the system Finally, position estimation system of moving target with good performance is achieved by low price equipments.

The fire detectors used in the engine rooms of ships offer only a slow response to emergencies because smoke or heat must reach detectors installed on ceilings, but the air flow in engine rooms can be very fluid depending on the use of equipment. In order to overcome these disadvantages, much research on video-based fire detection has been conducted in recent years. Video-based fire detection is effective for initial detection of fire because it is not affected by air flow and transmission speed is fast. In this paper, experiments were performed using images of smoke from a smoke generator in an engine room. Data generated using LBP and GLCM operators that extract the textural features of smoke was classified using SVM, which is a machine learning classifier. Even if smoke did not rise to the ceiling, where detectors were installed, smoke detection was confirmed using the image-based technique.

The effect of the structure of an ITO nanoparticle film sensor on its performance was studied. A printed ITO film (P-ITO film) was fabricated on a flexible polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate, and the contact resistance of the electrode and sensor response change were clarified according to the detection position. The contact resistance between Ag and P-ITO was observed to be -204.4 Ω using the transmission line method (TLM), confirming that a very good ohmic contact is possible. In addition, we confirmed that the contact position of the analyte had a significant influence on the response of the sensor. Based on these results, the performance of the four types of sensors was compared. Consequently, we observed that 1) optimizing the resistance of the printed film, 2) optimizing the electrode structure and analyte input position, and 3) optimizing the electrode area are very important for fabricating a metal oxide nanoparticle (MONP) sensor with optimal performance.

The exciter of a ship generator adjusts the magnetic flux through excitation current control to maintain the output terminal voltage constant. The voltage controller inside the exciter typically uses a proportional integral control method. however, the response characteristics determined by the gain and time constant produce unwanted output owing to an inappropriate setting value that can reduce the quality and stability of power within the ship. In this study, a neural network circuit is learned using stable input/output data that can be obtained through the AC4A type exciter model provided by IEEE, and the simulation is performed by replacing the existing proportional integral control type voltage controller with the learned neural network circuit controller. Consequently, overshooting was improved by up to 9.63% compared with that of the previous model, and excellence in stable response characteristics was confirmed.

In this study, an algorithm to predict evacuation routes in support of shipboard lifesaving activities is presented. As the first step of algorithm development, the feasibility and necessity of an evacuation route prediction algorithm are shown numerically. The proposed algorithm can be explained in brief as follows. This system continuously obtains and analyzes passenger movement data from the ship's monitoring system during non-disaster conditions. In case of a disaster, evacuation route prediction information is derived using the previously acquired data and a prediction tool, with the results provided to rescuers to minimize casualties. In this study, evacuation-related data obtained through fire evacuation trials was filtered and analyzed using a statistical method. In a simulation using the conventional evacuation prediction tool, it was found that reliable prediction results were obtained only in the SN1 trial because of the conceptual and structural nature of the tool itself. In order to verify the validity of the algorithm proposed in this study, an industrial engineering tool was adapted for evacuation characteristics prediction. When the proposed algorithm was implemented, the predicted values for average evacuation time and route were very similar to the measured values with error ranges of 0.6-6.9 % and 0.6-3.6 %, respectively. In the future, development of a high-performance evacuation route prediction algorithm is planned based on shipboard data monitoring and analysis.

In this study, we selected CFRP to construct a canoe hull. A ship design was made using a commercial ship design program, SOLIDWORKS, and a flow analysis of the canoe on a free surface was calculated using STAR-CCM+. A flow field and waveform were obtained in this way. These results were used to check the resistant performance of the canoe. Results showed that if the draft is 0.09 m, it is safe to run at less than 4 m/s, and if draft is 0.24 m, it is safe to run at less than 2 m/s. Moreover, it was confirmed that those speeds can be made by two adults. The developed canoe, which is 20 % lighter in comparison with conventional FRP models, was briefly introduced in this paper.
